Supreme Court Expected to Rule in Favor of Religious Schools Receiving Taxpayer Funding

Supreme Court Expected to Rule in Favor of Religious Schools Receiving Taxpayer Funding

The Supreme Court has expressed that it will likely rule in favor of allowing religious schools to receive public funding from the state coffers.

According to NBC News, the court’s conservative appointees indicated that they would consider loosening restrictions on the separation between church and state in order to allow faith-based schools to receive taxpayer dollars.

The case surrounds a Montana program that provides tax credits for individuals who donate money to organizations that offer cash scholarships to students. When an organization called “Blue Sky” identified the program as an incentive-led way for educational institutions to raise money, several religious schools also signed up to the initiative.

However, soon after the program launched, the state passed a constitutional amendment that prevented taxpayer aid from being directed to religious institutions, citing a portion of the Montana constitution which prohibits “any direct or indirect appropriation or payment … to aid any church, school … controlled in whole or in part by any church.”

The Montana Supreme Court ultimately ruled that the scholarship program was in violation of the state constitution and struck down the law completely, meaning that neither secular nor religious schools could benefit.

Now, the Supreme Court justices are questioning the state-level decision to ensure that it doesn’t…

Historic: Trump Will Become 1st President to Attend March for Life

Historic: Trump Will Become 1st President to Attend March for Life

Donald Trump will become the first U.S. president to appear in person at the March for Life Friday when he addresses the annual event that draws tens of thousands annually and seeks an end to abortion.

Although past presidents have spoken to the March for Life via telephone – Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush did that – none have ever appeared live at the rally. Trump delivered a video address to the crowd in 2019.

It is held every January in Washington, D.C.

“We are deeply honored to welcome President Trump to the 47th annual March for Life,” Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, said in a statement on the organization’s website. “He will be the first president in history to attend and we are so excited for him to experience in person how passionate our marchers are about life and protecting the unborn.

“From the appointment of pro-life judges and federal workers, to cutting taxpayer funding for abortions here and abroad, to calling for an end to late-term abortions, President Trump and his Administration have been consistent champions for life and their support for the March for Life has been unwavering. We are grateful for all these pro-life accomplishments and look forward to gaining more victories for life in the future.”

Vice President Mike Pence Under Fire for Attending ‘Homophobic’ Bible-Based Sermon

Vice President Mike Pence Under Fire for Attending ‘Homophobic’ Bible-Based Sermon

Vice President Mike Pence is under fire within the mainstream and LGBT media for speaking over the weekend at a historically black church where the pastor spoke out against anything that harms the “foundation” of marriage, including homosexuality.

Pence spoke at the Holy City Church of God In Christ in Memphis, Tenn., ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day – affirming the “ideals” King supported – but it was a pastor’s subsequent sermon that sparked controversy.

NBC News’ website, ran an Out News story under the headline, “Pence attends homophobic sermon streamed on White House YouTube channel.” The Hill’s website ran a similar story with the title, “Pence attends sermon where bishop says ‘demonic spirit’ is behind homosexual attraction.” Newsweek and others posted similar stories.

The pastor’s sermon, though, was similar to what can be heard in any evangelical church.

“The church is Christ’s bride. One day He’s coming back for his bride,” Bishop Jerry Wayne Taylor said.

Taylor’s sermon focused on the importance of building on the right “foundation.”

“People are building [their lives] on lies, false prophets, false teaching – but we’ve got to build on the Word of God,” Taylor said. “… His Word will not change for nobody. … When building, the foundation is the most important part of any organization, school, marriage…

Most Americans Want Politicians Who Support ‘Substantial Abortion Restrictions,’ New Poll Finds

Most Americans Want Politicians Who Support ‘Substantial Abortion Restrictions,’ New Poll Finds

After 47 years of legalized abortion in the United States, a new Marist poll found that most U.S. residents want the U.S. Supreme Court to change the law “by stopping legalized abortion or by returning the issue to the states,” said Carl Anderson, CEO of the Knights of Columbus, sponsor of the survey.

A news release announcing the poll’s results concluded “that a strong majority wants to elect candidates who support substantial abortion restrictions. And most Americans still reject the Supreme Court’s reasoning in the 1973 case,” Roe v. Wade, which was decided on Jan. 22 of that year.

Anderson said in the release that responses from self-identified abortion adherents advocating for restrictions show “how misleading it is to conflate the term ‘pro-choice’ with support” for “radically unrestricted abortion.”

The release reported that 41% of self-identified pro-choice adherents “are more likely to vote for candidates who support restrictions,” as are more than “nine in 10 who identify as pro-life (96%).”

When considering a presidential candidate, the poll found that “by a margin of 10 percentage points (45% to 35%), those who identify as pro-life are more likely to say abortion is a ‘major factor’ in their vote” compared to self-identified pro-choice adherents.

Full results of the poll are available on the Knights of Columbus…

The latest on impeachment and the Wuhan virus: The best way to change the world

Some stories in today’s news animate us in inverse proportion to the degree they affect us directly.

Democratic House managers, led by Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), opened the presentation of their case for impeachment yesterday. They are accusing President Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

For many Americans, the Senate trial frustrates us in large part because we can do so little about the cultural rancor it illustrates. It is our partisan polarization writ large, with the two sides in conflict while one hundred senators sit passively and the nation watches from afar.

If the trial ends as expected, neither side will get what it wants. The president’s supporters will be angry at what they perceive to be an unjust prosecution, while his opponents will be angry at what they perceive to be an unjust outcome. Each will blame the other. And no one seems to know what to do to change the partisan impasse in which the country finds itself.

“An epidemiologist’s nightmare”

Other stories in the news animate us in direct proportion to the way they affect us directly.

The death toll from the China coronavirus is now at seventeen. After emerging in a seafood and livestock market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the virus has now spread across China and into the US

Last night, Chinese authorities began work to quarantine Wuhan, sealing off its highways, public transportation, airport, train station, and long-haul bus hubs. The city is home to eleven million people. It would be the largest city in America (New York City’s population is estimated at 8.3 million).

In addition to the local threat, the Lunar New Year holiday in China is bringing hundreds of millions of travelers across the country and the world. According to the New York Times, this mass migration is “an epidemiologist’s nightmare.”

The virus is frightening because it holds the potential to affect us all. So far,

Truett Foster McKeehan – TobyMac’s Son – Is Revealed to Have Died from Accidental Overdose

A representative for TobyMac and his family has revealed the official cause of death for the Christian singer’s oldest son, Truett Foster McKeehan.

According to People magazine, a representative confirmed that the 21-year-old budding music star went into cardiac arrest after suffering from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and amphetamines.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, McKeehan passed away in his home in Nashville, Tennessee on October 23, 2019.

McKeehan, also known as Truett Foster, TRU, truDogg and Shiloh online, was a budding rapper in the secular scene. He has released a number of independent songs as well as collaborated with his father on several TobyMac and DC Talk albums.

Soon after his son’s passing, TobyMac released a heart-breaking statement remembering the joy McKeehan brought into a room.

He wrote on Facebook, “Truett Foster Mckeehan had joy that took the room when he entered. He was a magnetic son and brother and friend. If you met him, you knew him, you remembered him. His smile, his laugh, the encouragement he offered with words or even without. He had an untamable grand personality and dreams to match. And he hated being put in a box.”

TobyMac continued, “My last moment with Truett in person was at his first show Thursday at the Factory in Franklin, Tennessee … As I stood in the audience and watched my son bring joy…

Batwoman Comes Out as Lesbian in CW Series

Batwoman Comes Out as Lesbian in CW Series

For the first time in television history, a superhero was revealed as gay. The title character of the CW’s series Batwoman, shared her sexual orientation last Sunday in a midseason premiere episode called “How Queer Everything Is Today!”

In the episode, Kat Kane, who is Bruce Wayne’s cousin and doubles as Batwoman while he is mysteriously away, is faced with a difficult decision to expose her sexual identity to a hurting teenager even if it might mean thwarting her secret identity, according to Deadline. Entertainment Weekly shared that the teenager’s parents rebuffed the girl’s sexuality, and Batwoman felt compelled to comfort her with the reveal. She realized “what it would mean to others to have an out and proud superhero.”

Ultimately, her sexual identity as a lesbian is revealed to all of Gotham in a fictional magazine article in CatComagazine by Kara Danvers, who is actually Supergirl.

The episode was written by showrunner Caroline Dries, who wanted to write on the topic ever since the beginning of the show.

“For me, it was so important for this character to stand in her truth,” Dries said. “The girl underneath the costume is so comfortable with who she is and so comfortable with being truthful, and she never really has been in the closet … So I thought it was a cool character moment for Batwoman to say, ‘Not only do I represent hope for the city, but I represent hope for a lot of…

NFL Quarterback Aaron Rogers Questions How Anyone Could Believe in God

NFL Quarterback Aaron Rogers Questions How Anyone Could Believe in God

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Danica Patrick on her podcast, Pretty Intense, that he has questioned the existence of God.

“I don’t know how you can believe in a God who wants to condemn most of the planet to a fiery hell,” he says in the clip about growing up. He was speaking to Danica Patrick about a range of topics. Patrick is Rodgers’ girlfriend.

Rodgers says he was involved in the Christian ministry Young Life and grew up attending a nondenominational church with his parents.

In 2017, Rodgers talked about his friendship with Rob Bell in an ESPN the Magazine story. Bell is a preacher and author who wrote a book that questioned the traditional teachings of hell.

“Listing all the ways in which Rob has positively impacted my life would take up too much space; so I’ll simply say that he has inspired me to live life with a deeper level of appreciation and to love people with a greater awareness of our connectivity,” Rodgers said in an endorsement of Bell’s book, How to Be Here.

On the Bible, Rodgers said: “The Bible opens with a poem. It’s a beautiful piece of work, but it was never meant to be interpreted as I think some churches do.”

Also in the interview, Rodgers said he started to question evangelism and salvation.

He said in the interview he doesn’t identify with any affiliation and does not call himself a Christian.

“I think in people’s lives…
