Card company defends ‘Mary slept with someone else’ card

One of the cards reads: “Mary just needs to admit she slept with someone else”.

Another card says “Sorry your December birthday is overshadowed by a bloke that wore socks with sandals”.

The owner of Love Layla said the company does not set out to upset anyone.

Stacey Dennis said: “We’ve really pulled out all the stops for this year’s Christmas range as this is what our customers want with some designs providing much more of a playful edge.

“And with the way this year has panned out, people are in real need of a laugh and a giggle.

“Christmas isn’t just about religion it’s also about having fun and enjoying ourselves.

“We’re just trying to be original and funny by catering for all different types of humour, we don’t set out to deliberately upset anyone.”

James Mildred, communication Manager of Christian Action Research and Education (CARE) said this is something that is deemed “deeply” offensive to many Christians.

According to the Independent, he said: “It highlights a fundamental hypocrisy that Christianity is seen as fair game to mock, disparage and insult.

“As Christians we believe it is vital to exercise respect when sharing our views and listening to what others think. This card is the opposite of respectful.

“Sadly, this happens every Christmas, which is such an…

Footballer issues heartfelt message following death of daughter

It is the first time the Stoke striker, who joined Bristol City on loan for the season in August, has spoken publicly in the wake of Amora’s death on 29th November due to complications from a severe infection.

“We trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and when we’re weak he comforts us. He will protect the family and give us strength always,” he said.

“We want to bounce back and show people that even when we are grieving we can make a comeback and be strong and never quit in anything you want to do or become.”

In an initial statement released by the 26-year-old Congo international a few days ago, he admitted he and his family had been left “totally devastated and heartbroken”.

It prompted a huge outpouring of sympathy for Afobe from past clubs such as Bournemouth and Wolves and players like England internationals Tyrone Mings and James Maddison, the latter tweeting a picture of himself with the words “Benik we’re all here for you bro” on a t-shirt he wore underneath his Leicester top.

Conceding to coming off private settings on Instagram in order make a public statement following the show of support, Afobe added: “On the behalf of Lois, my family and myself, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has messaged or prayed about the death of our baby girl Amora nine days ago.

“The support we have received is something we will never forget and it means the…

‘I’m Blessed to Be Here’ – Sooners’ QB Jalen Hurts Shares His Faith-Filled Journey

‘I’m Blessed to Be Here’ – Sooners’ QB Jalen Hurts Shares His Faith-Filled Journey

Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts didn’t want to take personal credit for the Sooners’ Big 12 championship season Saturday. Instead, he thanked those around him – his teammates and coaches – and thanked God.

“This is not about me,” he said during a postgame news conference after Oklahoma defeated Baylor in overtime, 30-23. The next day, Oklahoma was selected as one of the four teams for the College Football Playoff.

Hurts is known for his faith. His profile picture includes a graphic reading, “Be who God called you to be.”

His story is unique. He was the starting quarterback for Alabama his first two years there before being benched the final game his sophomore season in favor of his then-backup, Tua Tagovailoa, who threw the game-winning touchdown pass in the national title game against Georgia. Hurts was a backup his junior season but still had a flash of heroics when he came off the bench to help the Crimson Tide win the SEC Championship game against Georgia.

Hurts then transferred to Oklahoma, where he completed 71 percent of his passes this year for 3,634 yards, 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions. A dual-threat quarterback, Hurts also rushed for 1,255 yards. Statistically, it was his best season yet.

Hurts, on Saturday, acknowledged it’s been a wild journey.

“I told [Oklahoma Coach Alex] Grinch after this game just how crazy…

The 49ers’ Richard Sherman Donates over $27,000 to Clear Student Lunch Debt

The 49ers’ Richard Sherman Donates over $27,000 to Clear Student Lunch Debt

’Tis the season for giving and San Francisco 49ers’ cornerback Richard Sherman has risen to the occasion. Earlier this week, the NFL star cleared over $27,000 worth of student lunch debt for California children, according to ABC.

“It’s the most generous thing to happen for these kids,” said Cabrillo Middle School principal Stan Garber. “There’s plenty in need and he didn’t neglect them. It was the perfect way to give back and help them. It was the kindest, most generous gesture.”

Cabrillo received a personal check for over $7,000 from the NFL star while the Tacoma Public Schools District received $20,000.

“Richard’s gesture created such goodwill for the 49ers that they went on to sack Aaron Rogers and the Green Bay Packers the next day on national TV by a score of 37-8,” Garber said on the school’s website. “Go 49ers, Go Richard Sherman.”

The donation came a day after the cornerback was awarded the National Football League Players Association’s Week 11 Community MVP. Sherman has gained a solid reputation for his generosity. He started two nonprofits—the Richard Sherman Family Foundation and Blanket Coverage Foundation—which have collectively raised $1.5 million since 2013 and helped more than 70,000 people in need. Many of the recipients have been students in low-income communities who need school supplies and clothing.

The compassionate player…

Pro-Life Win: High Court Upholds Law Requiring Ultrasounds before Abortions

Pro-Life Win: High Court Upholds Law Requiring Ultrasounds before Abortions

The U.S. Supreme Court handed the pro-life community a major victory Monday, upholding a Kentucky law that requires abortion doctors to show and describe an ultrasound to the pregnant woman and let her listen to any heartbeat, too.

The justices, without comment, refused to hear an appeal of a decision from the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which in April upheld the law in a 2-1 decision.

The law, H.B. 2, doesn’t require the women to watch or listen, but nevertheless is one of the more strict ultrasound laws in the country, according to the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute

The law requires the abortion doctor show the woman the images and provide an “explanation of what the ultrasound is depicting,” which must include “the dimensions of the embryo or fetus and the presence of external members and internal organs, if present and viewable.” Further, it requires the doctor to allow the woman to hear a heartbeat if a “heartbeat is audible.”

The pregnant woman then must sign a form indicating she either viewed the images and listened to the heartbeat or declined to do so.

“Neither the physician, the qualified technician, nor the pregnant woman shall be subject to any penalty if the pregnant woman refuses to look at the displayed ultrasound images or to listen to the heartbeat if the heartbeat is audible,” the law says.

The American Civil Liberties Union had…

Donut Company Appears to Dump Jinger Dugger Due to Her Christian beliefs

Donut Company Appears to Dump Jinger Dugger Due to Her Christian beliefs

A Los Angeles donut company is receiving criticism and praise after dumping a Christian reality television star who had partnered with them to promote their product.

Fonuts partnered with Jinger Dugger Vuolo this month to release a special “Jingerbread” donut that she promoted on her social media accounts, InTouch Weekly reports. But after a backlash over her involvement, Fonuts apologized and ended the relationship.

Dugger, the daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, is known for her appearances in 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. She is married to former professional soccer player Jeremy Vuolo, and the couple lives in Los Angeles.

Fonuts did not explain its decision in detail, although Dugger’s critics had pointed to the family’s Bible-based beliefs on homosexuality.

“We apologize for our recent poor choice of promotional partner. We were shocked and dismayed to learn about who we were associating with,” the Fonuts statement reads. “We recognize we really made a mistake by not properly researching them. We have ended our partnership with Jinger Vuolo and the company that introduced us. We would like you all to know, we promise to be more diligent in the future and will only work with people who truly represent our core values of kindness, inclusivity and transparency. We are so sorry, and we really hope you will forgive us for this mistake.”

Lebanese Christian Is Recognized for Buying Nazi Artifacts, Donating Them to Yad Vashem

Lebanese Christian Is Recognized for Buying Nazi Artifacts, Donating Them to Yad Vashem

A wealthy Lebanese Christian businessman who spent thousands of dollars to buy Hitler artifacts at an auction to keep them from being bought by neo-Nazis was honored by the President of Israel this weekend.

According to CBN News, Abdallah Chatila was recognized at an event in Jerusalem with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. Rivlin thanked Chatila for buying the artifacts. Chatila had donated the items to Keren Hayesod, a Jewish organization that promotes Jewish immigration to Israel.

“Your donation is of great importance at this time, when people are trying to deny historical truth,” Rivlin told Chatila. “These artifacts, which you are generously making available to Yad Vashem, will help convey the legacy of the Holocaust to the next generation who will not meet survivors.”

The artifacts included Hilter’s personal top hat. The items were placed in a safe at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem.

“What you did was seemingly so simple,” Rivlin said. “But this act of grace shows the whole world how to fight the glorification of hatred and incitement against other people. It was a truly human act. I know you have been thanked many times, but it was important for me to say it loud and clear here at Beit HaNasi in Jerusalem – we appreciate it and thank you for it very much.”

Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev also attended the event and thanked Chatila.

Anti-Religion Group Asks Alabama Sheriff to Stop Referencing Prayer after Tragedies

Anti-Religion Group Asks Alabama Sheriff to Stop Referencing Prayer after Tragedies

An anti-religion nonprofit has requested Alabama sheriff Nick Smith to stop mentioning prayer on the Sheriff’s office’s Facebook page.

“The issue here is that the sheriff’s office has a pattern of using tragedy to promote the idea of prayer and our letter reminds the sheriff not everyone in Walker County prays or believes in the same religion,” said Sam Grover, the Associate Counsel for the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF).

Two local tragedies prompted the foundation to send a letter. When Lowndes County Sheriff Williams was shot and killed, Smith requested prayer from the community. He posted a similar message for another tragedy involving a young boy and a sheriff’s deputy.

“Yet another heartbreaking and senseless tragedy in our great state involving a law enforcement officer,” said one of the posts referencing Sheriff Williams’ death. “Let us pray for this fallen officer’s family and loved ones tonight as they endure such a devastating time.”

According to local news, Smith has no intention of changing the nature of his Facebook posts to accommodate the request.

The Foundation works to “promote nontheism and defend the constitutional separation between religion and government” and acts as a “voice for freethought (atheism, agnosticism, skepticism).”

With Christmas approaching, FFRF has exhibited secular banners in San Diego denouncing…

Wheaton Mental Health Summit Remembers Jarrid Wilson’s ‘Legacy of Hope’

Wheaton Mental Health Summit Remembers Jarrid Wilson’s ‘Legacy of Hope’

WHEATON, Ill. (RNS) — The day pastor and mental health advocate Jarrid Wilson died was the day organizers began planning a one-day evangelical Christian summit about pastors and mental health.

Wilson, a pastor at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, spent his life advocating for mental health through his nonprofit, Anthem of Hope. He shared openly about his depression, offering words of hope on social media and calling on the church to better understand mental health.

He died by suicide in September.

Organizers of Friday’s gathering of pastors and other Christian leaders said they were continuing Wilson’s work.

“Today, we join a conversation already in progress, often in the mental health community, but less so — and sometimes tragically so — the conversation has not yet made it into many of our churches,” said Ed Stetzer, executive director of the Billy Graham Center.

About 400 ministry leaders filled a sold-out auditorium at the Billy Graham Center for GC2: Facing Hard Truths and Challenges of Pastoral Ministry, focused on the topics of leadership, burnout and mental health. Another 77 churches around the world live-streamed the event, according to Stetzer.

The event is the fourth annual GC2 summit organized by the Billy Graham Center and Wheaton College School of Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy on the evangelical Christian school’s campus…
