Concerns were raised by the National Secular Society (NSS) after it received information that Christian doctor Richard Scott, had offered to pray for a patient described as “highly vulnerable” by an acquaintance earlier this year.

The NSS said it was told the patient “felt unable to express discomfort and was not able to raise the matter formally or change GP practice.”

A fitness to practice inquiry was then launched against Scott, who is a GP at Bethesda Medical Centre in Margate, Kent.

The GMC stated it had a duty to investigate the issue despite the allegations of the unknown patient being heard second hand.

Scott, who estimates he offered prayer to about one in every forty patients told the Times the decision to drop the “vexatious” case was “good news”.

“The result is encouraging to people like myself to share faith and pray with our patients,” he added.

Scott has been instructed to obtain recorded consent from patients when discussing faith in the future.

Dale McAlpine was arrested in Kendal town centre last year and held for questioning at Kendal Police Station.

After being released without bail, McAlpine waited six months for police to inform him he would not be prosecuted.

The Christian Institute has called the incident “a gross overreaction from the police” and supported McAlpine in a claim for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment.

Cumbria Police has opted to settle the claim out of court.

McAlpine, who has been street preaching across the UK for 14 years said: “I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and His message of salvation and I want everyone to hear about it.

“I took this legal action to help the police realise you cannot arrest people just for preaching the Gospel.”

The Christian Institute has dubbed the recent pay out a “positive outcome for Christians across the country”.

Simon Calvert, Deputy Director for Public Affairs said: “Our country has a rich heritage of free speech, for preachers and for everybody else.

Scotland Yard said the teenager was charged with robbery and assault on police after an incident on Kings Road in Chelsea.

Jenkins was on her way to a rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon when she witnessed an elderly woman being attacked.

After she stepped in to help, the singer was then mugged herself, her agent said.

The Welsh mezzo-soprano was in London to sing at the Henry van Straubenzee charity carol concert at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea.

“Miraculously, Katherine still managed to perform at the concert as she didn’t want to let the charity down,” her agent added.

The Met said police were called to reports of a robbery on Kings Road in Chelsea at about 3.10pm on December 4.

Officers attended the incident and arrested two 15-year-old girls on suspicion of robbery, a police spokesperson said.

“A female member of the public had attempted to intervene,” the spokeswoman added.

An officer was assaulted during the incident but did not require hospital treatment.

The two girls were released under investigation, with the 15-year-old re-arrested on December 5 in connection with the same incident after further information was received.
