U.S. Lawmakers Implore UN to Address Hezbollah’s Threats against Israel

U.S. Lawmakers Implore UN to Address Hezbollah’s Threats against Israel

Democrats and Republicans from the U.S. House of Representatives sent a bipartisan letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, asking the Lebanese government to disarm “all armed groups in Lebanon.”

The letter comes after Hezbollah continues its violence against Israel.

“Hezbollah has built a murderous capability aimed at Israel’s civilian population,” the letter reads. “In the thirteen years since the unanimous passage of the Security Council resolution, Hezbollah, with the assistance of Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, has amassed a deadly arsenal of about 150,000 rockets and missiles aimed at Israel.”

Hezbollah is backed by Iran, the country the letter called “the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.”

“Iran is currently exacerbating this threat by transferring precision-guided munitions to Hezbollah and building munitions factories in Lebanon for the benefit of the internationally-recognized terrorist organization,” the letter says.

In September, Hezbollah launched a missile strike against IDF vehicles near the Lebanese border. There were no injuries.

The group has also used its resources to dig underground tunnels that allow Hezbollah terrorists to enter Israeli cities.

The letter asks the U.N. to step in and help stop Hezbollah’s actions, urging the U.N. General Secretary to “lead an international effort…

Sudan to return confiscated property to Christians

Nasreddine Mufreh has reiterated Christians will have their stolen possessions reinstated through court proceedings, acknowledging the suffering and “very bad practices” they have endured under the regime of former President Omar al-Bashir.

In an interview with international Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat on Sunday, Mufreh said Christians should not be described as a minority group and affirmed their role within Sudanese society and their right to freely practise their faith.

“They are Sudanese and their religion is heavenly with its values and beliefs,” he added.

Mufreh also told media in September that confiscated church properties should be returned.

In the past few years, there have been increasing reports by Christian leaders of forced closure and demolition of churches, the confiscation of Christian books and violent attacks towards Christians after Bahir vowed to adopt a strict version of sharia (Islamic law) – which only recognises Islamic culture and the Arabic language. Authorities threatened to kill South Sudanese Christians who do not leave or cooperate with them in their effort to find other Christians.

In April 2013 the then-Sudanese Minister of Guidance and Endowments announced that no new licenses would be granted for building new churches in Sudan, citing a decrease in the South Sudanese population.

Following the imprisonment of Bashir and…

Kayne West’s Jesus Is King Hits No. 1 on Top Christian Albums Chart, Billboard 200 Chart

Kayne West’s Jesus Is King Hits No. 1 on Top Christian Albums Chart, Billboard 200 Chart

Kanye West’s latest gospel-infused Jesus is King album has topped the Billboard 200 chart and the Top Christian Albums chart.

According to CBN News, the fashion mogul turned evangelist launched the album on Oct. 25, becoming his ninth consecutive album to debut at the No. 1 spot on Billboard 200. He’s tied with Eminem for the most records to hit the top of the charts.

For the first time, West also hit the No. 1 spots on the Top Christian Albums and Top Gospel Album charts as well.

“West is the latest artist to cross to No. 1 on the faith-based tallies after establishing stardom at other genres,” according to Billboard. “Among others, the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, and country icons Alan Jackson and Reba McEntire all boast Top Christian Albums No. 1s since the start of 2017.”

The album’s success prompted a massive increase in faith-based Google searches, according to Faithwire. People searched for “Jesus” and “What do Christians believe?” shortly after the album was released.

The American Bible Society saw the opportunity to reach out to those seeking with free copies of the Bible.

“When we see an influential cultural figure like Kanye inspire young people to curiously seek out answers to their faith questions,” John Plake, director of ministry intelligence for ABS said, “we see an opportunity to step…

Christian campaign group welcomes ban of ‘misleading’ Universal Credit ads

The adverts, part of a £225,000 Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) campaign to detoxify universal credit appeared in the Metro newspaper and on its website, as well as on the Mail Online, in May and June.

In the adverts, it claimed people moved into work faster on universal credit than under the old system, however, the ASA said this could not be substantiated.

The ASA received 44 complaints about six newspaper adverts and a web page, one of the complainants was from Christian charity The Trussell Trust who objected to “misleading” claims.

Rev Paul Nicholson, founder of Christian campaign group Taxpayers Against Poverty has been campaigning against poverty for over forty years, he told Premier: “The adverts were very misleading and I can quite understand the way that the ASA has gone the way it has.

There are so many difficulties all tied up with local authorities and the DWP, it’s a complex scene and often massively oppressive, but I am absolutely delighted the ASA has come down so heavily on the DWP.”

The ASA said: “We considered that readers would understand the claim to mean that under UC the option to have rent paid directly to landlords was generally available without restriction to all claimants who wanted it.”

It banned four of the newspaper ads and the web page from appearing again in the form complained about, and said it had told the DWP to ensure…

Kendrick Brothers Unveil Details of Next Film: ‘It’s Such an Inspirational Story’

Kendrick Brothers Unveil Details of Next Film: ‘It’s Such an Inspirational Story’

The director of the popular faith-based movies Overcomer and War Room says he and his brothers are scheduled to begin shooting their next film in 2020 – and that this time, their film will be based on a true story.

Director Alex Kendrick told Christian Headlines the yet-unnamed film is “in development right now,” although it is in the early stages.

Kendrick and his brother, Stephen, released their sixth movie, Overcomer, this year. It opened at No. 3, earned an A+ CinemaScore rating from moviegoers, and grossed $34.6 million. Overcomer releases on home digital platforms Nov. 26 and Blu-ray and DVD Dec. 17. Another brother, Shannon Kendrick, was a producer in the last two films.

Alex Kendrick said he isn’t certain if he will direct the new film or if he will pass that role to someone else. He has directed all six movies he and his brother have made.

“We know we’re going to executive produce it,” Kendrick told Christian Headlines. “But we’re also using this next one to give [an opportunity to] some of these young Christian filmmakers that are so talented – and we’re trying to help mentor them. They will have a larger part in the next one.

“We will continue making movies ourselves, but at the same time, we’ve got to start passing the torch and investing in other filmmakers [who will] continue doing this for decades…

Christian campaigner backs Queens’s ban on fur, encourages Christians to follow her lead

Her senior dresser Angela Kelly, revealed in a book that Her Majesty made the change this year in response to changing societal attitudes.

At least one coat in her wardrobe has been altered, while any new outfits designed for the Queen will use fake fur instead.

Animal rights groups have applauded the move by the monarch with Humane Society International suggesting it sends a “powerful message” that fur’s out of fashion.

The news comes after a number of designer fashion brands including Gucci and Prada made similar announcements to go fur-free.

Samantha Chandler from Christian animal rights charity, Anglican Society for Welfare of Animals told Premier she welcomed the decision.

“We think it’s fantastic,” she said. “It was always a bit of a shame that our Queen, as head of the Church of England, continued to wear fur.”

“I think it’s definitely out of fashion now, people who wear fur are seen as not on trend, I don’t think young people as a general rule would be seen dead in fur coats.

Chandler went on to say that the decision speaks of Her Majesty’s character and investment in her country: “She is a very thoughtful and well-read woman. She certainly does keep an eye on what is going on in the media in the news, particularly public opinion of her subjects and her citizens.

“Perhaps it has caused her to question her choices and whether what she is doing is humane,…

Keith Getty Explains the ‘Different’ Goals of Hymns, Modern Worship Songs

Keith Getty Explains the ‘Different’ Goals of Hymns, Modern Worship Songs

Every songwriter hopes their tunes stand the test of time.

But for Keith Getty, this goal has particular significance. Keith and his wife Kristyn are writers of modern hymns – songs that, by definition, are intended to be more than a radio hit.

The Gettys recently released their newest album, Sing! An Irish Christmas, which was recorded live at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn.

“The goal of a hymn is – first – does it teach a certain aspect of theology? And, secondly, could this song be sung for the duration of the hymnbook? – 20 years, 30 years, indefinitely. So it’s just a whole different target [than contemporary worship]. In one sense, there’s no scientific definition. In another sense, it’s an entirely different goal.”

Hymns typically use “more classical forms” to “try and teach the faith,” Getty said. By comparison, a modern worship song – generally speaking – “has to sound contemporary” if it is to be played on the radio.

“Only time will tell” whether a hymn will be sung by future generations, he said.

“I don’t think there’s a sense of rightness or wrongness,” Keith Getty said of the comparison between worship songs and modern hymns. “It’s just different artistic goals.”

Getty was the co-writer of In Christ Alone – one of the more popular modern hymns in recent years.

Sing! An…

Religious Affairs Minister in Sudan Signals Freedom of Religion in New Era

Religious Affairs Minister in Sudan Signals Freedom of Religion in New Era

JUBASouth Sudan, November 5, 2019 (Morning Star News) – In another sign that Islamist elements hostile to Christianity in Sudan could be reined in, the minister of religious affairs has reiterated that Christian properties confiscated under the previous regime would be returned.

Acknowledging that Christians were persecuted and endured “very bad practices” under the regime of former President Omar al-Bashir, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasr al-Din Mufreh on Sunday (Nov. 3) was quoted in International Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat as saying property stolen from Sudanese Christians would be returned through court proceedings.

Mufreh also had told media in September that confiscated church properties should be returned.

In Sunday’s article in which he invited expelled Jews to return to Sudan – as he had in September, drawing criticism from Muslim hardliners – Mufreh said that Christians and people of other beliefs are free to practice their faith in Sudan.

“They [Christians] are Sudanese, and their religion is heavenly with its values and beliefs,” Mufreh told Asharq Al-Awsat, saying that Christians have such a presence in Sudan that they should not be described as a minority.

Sudanese Christians hope the comments mark a sea change from the Islamist campaign of Bashir, ousted by the army on April 11 after widespread protests…

Former church leader Joshua Harris says he ‘excommunicated’ himself

In an interview with HBO news platform Axios, the 44-year-old said: “If you’re not living according to the teaching of the Bible, and you’re living in unrepentant sin, then you have to be put out of the church. I excommunicated myself, essentially.”

The author of the popular 1997 book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, said he came to realise that he gave bad advice in his book.

He said: “In an effort to set a high standard, the book emphasized practices (not dating, not kissing before marriage) and concepts … that are not in the Bible.

“I apologised for it. I unpublished the books. I pulled the books off the market. But you can’t give people [back], you know, years of their life. It was a long process for me. I started seeing that the book really had misled a lot of people.”

Harris, who left his role as lead pastor of a church in 2015 now spends his Sunday mornings doing yoga.

“I was a leader and a spokesman and I called people to live in very particular ways, to sacrifice in very particular ways,” he said.

“And so for me to change in my thinking feels like a betrayal to them.”

“I was really just trying to be honest about the fact that all the ways that I had defined faith and Christianity, that I was no longer choosing to live according to those.”

Beijing Changes Bible Characters to Ancient Chinese in Church Magazine

Beijing Changes Bible Characters to Ancient Chinese in Church Magazine

Under the government’s orders, the official publication of China’s state-sanctioned Protestant church network has begun using artwork depicting biblical characters as ancient Chinese men and women – and even showing Jesus in traditional Han attire, a religious watchdog says.

The Heavenly Wind magazine is published monthly by the National Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement and the China Christian Council.

Since January, its cover art has featured “sinicized” biblical illustrations with Jesus talking to ancient Chinese characters in Chinese landscapes, Bitter Winter reported. For example, Mary was “personified as an ancient Chinese woman,” and the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes shows Jesus feeding characters “portrayed with their hair tied in traditional Chinese buns.”

Bitter Winter believes the artwork “goes well beyond the iconographic ‘inculturation’ traditionally practiced by Catholic and some other missionaries.” The magazine “has always been a good indicator of the state of ‘official’ Christianity in China,” Bitter Winter reported.

“My eyes widened when I saw Mary with her hair tied in a bun like an ancient Chinese woman. It’s so bizarre,” a member of a Three-Self church told Bitter Winter.

A 70-year-old Christian from the province of Qinghai told Bitter Winter the Communist government…
