Biological Male Runner Named Conference’s Female ‘Athlete of the Week’

Biological Male Runner Named Conference’s Female ‘Athlete of the Week’

A biological male runner who identifies as a female was named the Big Sky Conference women’s cross country athlete of the week last week, sparking – yet again – a debate over fairness in women’s sports and the collegiate rules that govern transgender athletes.

The University of Montana’s June Eastwood won the honor after finishing second in a field of 204 runners at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif. It was only the latest impressive finish for Eastwood, who finished first at an Oct. 4 meet and third at a Sept. 21 race.

But last year Eastwood was known as Jonathan Eastwood and competed on the Montana men’s cross country and track teams. Eastwood finished seventh in May 2018 in the men’s 1,500-meter run at the conference’s outdoor championship.

Eastwood’s picture and bio as a male athlete is still listed on the athletic department’s website as a former member of the men’s team. Now, though, Eastwood identifies as a female athlete and is listed on the website as June Eastwood and a member of the women’s team.

Eastwood won multiple state titles as a male in high school, according to KULR-TV in Billings, Mont.

Under NCAA rules governing transgender athletes, Eastwood had to sit out one year and undergo testosterone suppression treatments for 12 months in order to compete as a female. Eastwood,…

Baby born in laundry room as tornado touched down in Texas: Serving God and others with humble excellence

Members of Primera Iglesia Dallas survey the damage to their church caused by a tornado on Oct. 20, 2019.

A tornado destroyed schools, businesses, and homes in the Dallas area on Sunday night, Oct. 20. But amid the devastation, a remarkable story unfolded.

CNN reports that a pregnant woman came into a birthing center in Rowlett, east of Dallas. The center’s owner said later, “It was a beautiful day outside, nothing to worry about. Then around 10 p.m., or a little before, it was time for her to start pushing and our phones all started going off saying there is a tornado near us.”

The power went out as tornado sirens went off. The staff quickly took the mother into their laundry room, which they determined to be the safest room in their facility. There they helped her deliver a baby girl by candlelight.

Both the girl and her mother are doing well.

A shark bites off a swimmer’s foot

The tornado in Dallas is just one reminder of the limits humans face in preventing natural disasters.

Wildfires in Northern California have burned an area more than twice the size of San Francisco. The National Weather Service warns this morning that extremely dangerous fire conditions in the Los Angeles area “have not been seen in recent memory.”

Pacific Gas & Electric could conduct its third power cut in less than a week, affecting nearly four million people. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West are among the wealthy Californians who are hiring their own private firefighters to supplement state and local government resources.

In other news, a British tourist was snorkeling on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef yesterday when a shark bit his foot off. The shark then mauled another man’s leg. The same day, a powerful earthquake shook the southern Philippines, triggering landslides and loosening boulders that killed six people and injured more than one hundred others.

Quakers question Government on key topics as countdown to general election starts

The announcement came after a general election was called for 12th December.

The Christian group said in a statement that it seeks “something of God in everyone and that leads them to work for justice for all”.

It said their “commitment to truth, peace, equality and simplicity leads to five priorities: climate crisis, migration, criminal justice, peace and disarmament, and the nature of the debate”.
Quakers in Britain said it is a time to influence future decision-makers.

It has called for the UK to commit to transition to a net-zero carbon economy in order to tackle effects of climate change.

Regarding crime justice, Quakers want “a system of restorative justice that transforms individuals, communities and countries for the better”.

They have urged the future government to invest in health, education and housing to “help address the inequalities that lead people to commit crime”.

The group has also mandated the language used by politicians is fair.

“Quakers are concerned by the violent language being used in the political arena,” it said in a statement.

“They call on everyone involved… to listen to each other, seek the truth and seek common ground from which to move forward.

“Humanity needs leaders of integrity and conscience, ready to be held to account by individuals and institutions, national and international.”

Quakers across Britain are engaging with politicians…

American pastor arrested and detained in India

According to the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Pastor Bryan Nerren and two other pastors from the state of Tennessee arrived in India on 5th October to attend two conferences in India and Nepal.

The ACLJ reported that Pastor Nerren was then targeted and arrested by Indian customs agents after he told them he was a Christian.

ICC’s regional manager, William Stark said: “We here at International Christian Concern are deeply concerned by the arrest and detention of Pastor Nerren. We are most concerned by reports that Pastor Nerren was targeted by Indian customs officials after he told them he is a Christian.

Pastor Nerren was detained by customs agents whilst going through security for a flight to Bagdogra. The pastor was carrying funds to cover the expenses for the two conferences as well as the two-week trip for himself and the other pastors.

Customs agents questioned him about the funds and their usage for about an hour. According to reports, Nerren has been traveling to India and Nepal for the past 17 years to train people to become Sunday school teachers.

Customs agents specifically asked him if he was a Christian and if the funds would be used to support Christian causes. After explaining what the money was for, customs agents told Pastor Nerren he was free to go.

However, when Nerren arrived in Bagdogra, he was arrested and transported to Siliguri where he was jailed for six days and…

Comedian Kevin Hart reveals God’s message to him after life-threatening crash

The Hollywood actor was a passenger in a vintage muscle car when the driver lost control, sped down an embankment and slammed into a tree near Malibu.

Hart suffered major back injuries in the crash, which authorities blamed on reckless driving.

Hart, 40, has now returned to social media and shared a video to Instagram documenting his recovery from September’s smash.

The star of films including Ride Along, Get Hard and The Upside is shown lying in a hospital bed, being assisted by nurses and using a walking frame to stand up.

“Basically you realise you’re not in control,” he said.

“No matter how much you think you’re in control, you’re not in control. At the end of the day it can all be over.

“When God talks you’ve got to listen. I swear life is funny because some of the craziest things that happen to you end up being the thing you needed most.

“In this case I honestly feel like God told me to sit down. When you’re moving too fast and you’re doing too much, sometimes you can’t see the things you’re meant to see.

“After my accident I see things differently, I see life from a whole new perspective,” Hart said.

Hart is also filmed undergoing physical therapy lessons at his home. His three children appear in the video, as does his wife, Eniko.

“My appreciation for life is through the roof. I’m thankful for my family, my friends,” he said.

Hart thanked fans for their “love…

Eight Reasons Long-term Pastors Still Fall

By Chuck Lawless

We all know stories of long-term pastors – leaders who’ve been in the ministry for years – who still fall morally. We grieve when we hear the stories, and we wonder how it can happen to ministry veterans. Based on my studies of how Satan attacks leaders, here are some reasons even long-term pastors fall.

  1. “Success” leads them to let their guard down. The more “successful” pastors are, the easier it is to assume, “That will never happen to me.” Their thinking sounds like this: “After all, God has always blessed my ministry, hasn’t He? He won’t let this happen to me.”
  2. Longer ministry = more opportunities to fall. This reason is really simple. The more time pastors spend with more people, the more opportunity they have to get wrongly connected with someone. Longer ministries demand more awareness of falling—not less.
  3. They’ve learned to hide in the ministry. Busyness and excellent speaking skills can cover a lot of private sin. Public ministry does not always include private accountability. What looks great on the outside isn’t always so pure on the inside.
  4. They never really developed spiritual disciplines. I speak to a lot of pastors who candidly admit that Bible study and prayer have always been struggles. They’ve searched for a deep relationship with God and have never really found it.
  5. Ministry has worn down their defenses. I’ve not met any pastors who started ministry defeated and discouraged. I’ve met many, though, who are now in that state….

‘My Only Mission Is to Spread the Gospel’: Kanye West Opens Up about Pornography Addiction, Music, Faith

‘My Only Mission Is to Spread the Gospel’: Kanye West Opens Up about Pornography Addiction, Music, Faith

As Christian communities light up in dialogue over Kanye West’s conversion and recent album, the rapper opened up about his faith journey in a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1.

“This is such a win for the Kingdom,” Kanye said, according to Faithwire. “For Kanye to come back home, from going from ‘Jesus Walks’ to ‘I Love It’, to say to God, ‘I tried it my way, it’s not working out. Everything is in shambles. I’m ending up in debt, making this money but still ending up in debt. My public standing is in shambles. I’m not in good shape. I’m having ups and downs with my health. People calling me crazy. People not wanting to sit with me. I had to just give it up to God.”

West recently moved to a ranch in Wyoming with his family. When Lowe asked him what he hopes the ranch will be in 20 years, West acknowledged that he didn’t know, that God would give him direction.

“I have some visions,” he said, “but the more that I’m in service to God, I just clear my head and wake up more empty every day and let God do the driving and just use me as he may. You make plans, and God laughs.”

Other the past year, West has slowly changed after his conversion last April, becoming more at peace with God and seeking Him in his work. He recently committed to abandoning secular music and…

Pete Buttigieg Speaks on Foreign Policy, Says We Must ‘See Humanity in Our Enemy’

Pete Buttigieg Speaks on Foreign Policy, Says We Must ‘See Humanity in Our Enemy’

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg hopes for a world without weapons, according to the Washington Examiner.

In a recent roundtable discussion with leaders from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim congregants in North and South Carolina, the 37-year-old Afghanistan war veteran invoked his religious beliefs to push forward peace.

“The commitment to peace that is such a core teaching of Jesus is also something that I think is a core goal of the right kind of American foreign policy,” he said.

“It doesn’t mean that we ignore threats. It doesn’t mean that we unilaterally disarm. It doesn’t mean that we can move tomorrow toward a world with no weapons, although that is the world that we are called to envision. It does mean that we can take steps that will move us closer to that reality.”

As a herald of the “Christian Left,” Buttigieg has regularly voiced his faith in political conversations. The roundtable aimed to discuss how faith relates to other political decisions besides same-sex marriage and abortion. The married gay man and member of the Episcopal church spoke on foreign policy.

“When it comes to our actions abroad, I think that in many ways, the question is how near can we approximate the radical teaching that we are to love our enemy,” he said. “I think the best we can come to it in our time is to see the humanity…

Church leaders plan prayer hour for Brexit reconciliation

EU leaders have agreed in principle to extend Brexit until 31st January 2020, meaning the UK will not leave as planned on Thursday. A prayer hour is planned from 7pm to 8pm on Thursday, with Christians across the county asked to pray that “healing, love and respect be demonstrated by all, to all.”

The diocese of Carlisle said congregations can light an Easter candle or three candles in a church to represent one for themselves, one for their neighbours and a third for those with whom they may disagree about Brexit.

In a joint statement, church leaders from across the denominations, said: “There is no doubt that, regardless of political standpoint, the Brexit process has been divisive, with opinions still polarised.

“As we approach the 31 October – what has been seen by many as a ‘Brexit milestone’ – we are charged as Christians to reach out in love to everyone, in a spirit of reconciliation, with a listening ear and a deep respect for others’ views.

“Our hope is that those with faith, and indeed those who may have no faith, are able to come together in their place of worship to pray for each other, their communities and the nation and to light three candles.

“The lighting of candles underlines that this is rooted in our Christian faith and our understanding that Jesus is the light of the world and that those who follow him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life.

“This is the beginning of a process of praying for reconciliation which together…
