Kirk Franklin Says He’s Boycotting TBN, Dove Awards for Failing to Acknowledge Diversity Concerns

Kirk Franklin Says He’s Boycotting TBN, Dove Awards for Failing to Acknowledge Diversity Concerns

Grammy and Dove Award winner Kirk Franklin said he is boycotting Trinity Broadcasting Network, the Gospel Music Association, future Dove Awards shows and all affiliated events after comments he made about a fatal police shooting were edited out of his recent acceptance speech—for the second time in four years.

Franklin announced his decision Monday on a video he posted on his Instagram and Facebook accounts. Franklin won a Dove Award for Best Gospel Artist at the Oct. 15 Dove Awards and, during his speech, the singer shared customary thanks to his wife, Tammy, and support team before turning to an officer-involved shooting in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. He asked the audience to pray for 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson, a black woman who was shot and killed through her window by a white police officer. Her 8-year-old nephew was with her and witnessed the shooting.

“I’m just asking that we send our prayers for her family and for his and I’m asking that we send our prayers for that 8-year-old little boy that saw that tragedy and we just lift them up and I’m asking that you pray with us … just pray grace and mercy over their lives in the name of Christ our king,” he noted in an unedited clip of his speech posted on YouTube.

But when the Dove Awards were broadcast five days later on TBN, that portion of his speech had…

On Monday 28th October Peter and Miranda Harris, co-founders of A Rocha, and Chris Naylor, A Rocha International CEO, together with his wife Susanna, were travelling in South Africa.

In a statement, the charity said: “Miranda, Chris and Susanna did not survive. Peter and the driver of the car are being treated at a local hospital and are in a stable condition. We await further news on their progress.

“Above all, their families and friends are held in our prayers.

“We know that this comes as a profound shock to everyone in the A Rocha Family and others all around the world. A more detailed announcement will be made in due course.”

Local reports suggest the vehicle they were travelling in plunged off Swartkops Bridge in Port Elizabeth after colliding with a pick-up truck.

Peter and Miranda Harris founded the charity in 1983 to bring a Christian perspective to the environmental crisis.

The organisation now works in 20 countries across the world.

U.S. State Department Says al-Baghdadi’s ‘Number Two’ was Killed in Separate Attack

U.S. State Department Says al-Baghdadi’s ‘Number Two’ was Killed in Separate Attack

The Islamic State spokesman, a man poised to become the next terror leader of the group, was killed in Syria by U.S. forces, according to the U.S. State Department.

Islamic State spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir was considered “number two” to leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a senior State Department official told Fox News. Al-Baghdadi was also killed in a separate U.S. attack in another border town on Saturday night.

“Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops,” Trump wrote. “Most likely would have taken the top spot — Now he is also Dead!”

Gen. Mazloum Abdi, the top Kurdish leader for the Syrian Democratic Forces, tweeted to confirm the attack: “Following the previous ops, a senior assistant for al-Bagdadi is called Abu Hesen al Mouhjir was targeted in a village named Ein al Baat near Jaraboul city, the mission was conducted via direct coordination of SDF Intel & US military apart the ongoing ops to hunt ISIS leaders.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported Muhajir’s death, saying he was traveling in a convoy when he was…

Noted Cambridge professor challenges UK public to rethink the person of Jesus and defends the reliability of the Gospels

Peter Williams, Principal of Tyndale House and member of the Faculty of Divinity at Cambridge University said “I now believe I have arguments for the truthfulness of Scripture, which are not generally known by [the public]. So on one side you can say that there can be problems with scholarship that aren’t known by [the public], but I think there can also be arguments for truthfulness that aren’t generally known by [the public].”

His comments, recorded on The Big Conversation video debate show with Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Bart Erhman, are a challenge to the 39% of British adults who in the Talking Jesus study (Barna, 2015) stated they did not think Jesus was a real historical person and the 22% who believed Jesus to be a mythical or fictional character.

In a series of arguments, Williams described a number of elements that prove the historically reliable nature of the Gospels including: the early dating of the Gospels compared to equivalent ancient historical sources; the authorship being consistent with the names attributed and not being ‘anonymous’ as some scholars claim; the geographical knowledge demonstrated by the writers; and the reliability of the transmission of the texts over time.

Responding to Ehrman’s view that the story of Jesus could be undermined because of being handed down simply through oral tradition…

Norway’s Capital Bans Goods Made in Israeli Settlement Territories

Norway’s Capital Bans Goods Made in Israeli Settlement Territories

The city council of Oslo, Norway’s capital, has agreed to ban all services and products made in Israel’s settlement communities, according to CBN.

“The Palestinian people, who have to deal with the illegal occupation of their territory every single day, deserve international attention and support,” said Sunniva Eisvoll, leader of the Oslo chapter of the Socialist Left Party. “It is a shared global responsibility to help ensure that human rights and international law are not violated. I am proud that the Oslo City Council is now taking steps to prevent goods and services purchased by the city from supporting an illegal occupation of Palestine or other territories.”

The decision, motivated by the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, is part of the newly-elected Socialist Left, Labour, and Green Parties’ platform. Oslo is not the first Norwegian city to enact the ban, however. As reported by the BDS Movement, they join five other municipalities—Trondheim, Tromsø, Vaksdal, Hamar, Lillehammer, and Nordland—already prohibiting purchases.

The new resolution comes in the wake of an international call from Michael Lynk, U.N. independent expert on human rights in Palestinian territories, to ban all Israeli settlement products.

“No occupation in the modern world has been conducted with the international community so alert to its many grave breaches…

Former VP Joe Biden denied communion over pro-abortion stance

The former vice president and Catholic attended Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Florence on Sunday, but was denied Holy Communion by the church’s pastor Rev. Robert E. Morey, according to the South Carolina Morning News.

“Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to Former Vice President Joe Biden. Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that,” Morey told the newspaper in a statement.

“Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.

“As a priest, it is my responsibility to minister to those souls entrusted to my care and I must do so even in the most difficult situations,” the statement continued. “I will keep Mr. Biden in my prayers.”

Christian evangelist Franklin Graham tweeted his support for Morey’s decision, saying:

“I applaud the fact that this priest did what he thought was right at the risk of possible public or political ire.”

Biden’s stance on abortion has for decades been aligned with the more…

Joe Biden Denied Communion by S.C. Priest over Abortion Advocacy

Joe Biden Denied Communion by S.C. Priest over Abortion Advocacy

The pastor of a South Carolina church refused Sunday to give communion to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden due to his support for legal abortion.

Biden, who is Catholic, was campaigning in South Carolina when he stopped Sunday morning at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Florence, S.C.

Rev. Robert E. Morey, pastor of the church, confirmed Monday he denied communion to the former vice president.

“Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to Former Vice President Joe Biden,” Morey said, according to WPDE in Florence. “Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that. Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching. As a priest, it is my responsibility to minister to those souls entrusted to my care, and I must do so even in the most difficult situations. I will keep Mr. Biden in my prayers.”

The Biden campaign declined to comment.

During a Democratic debate in mid-October, Biden pledged to ensure abortion remains legal, even if the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“I would make sure that … we codify Roe v. Wade,” Biden said. “The public is already there. Things have changed. … Reproductive rights are a constitutional right. And, in fact, every woman should have that right.”

Then-Cardinal Joseph…

Christian charity saves 45 young people from life of crime

The mentorship scheme, launched in 2013 by Christian charity Action for Children, is the first of its kind in the UK to provide ‘peer mentors’ to help youngsters break free from a life of organised crime.

It sees advisors, many of whom are reformed criminals modelling alternative lifestyles to “high risk” 11 – 18 year olds who have resisted more conventional forms of support, in a bid to deter them from further criminal activity.

Teenagers involved in drug dealing, money laundering and robbery were offered support in the form of education, training and employment advice at the Glaswegian based project over the past six years.

An analysis by the Glasgow City Council found that the scheme prevented 45 out of 49 recent participants in the scheme from re-offending and has saved the council more than £500,000 by diverting four high risk children away from needing care.

Following the success of Action for Children’s Serious Organised Crime Early Intervention service, The National Lottery is providing the charity with £4.6 million to expand the project to Edinburgh, Newcastle and Cardiff.

Action for Children director for Scotland Paul Carberry, said: “Serious organised crime is an issue for the whole of the UK, it disproportionately impacts the more vulnerable in our communities and has a greater presence in socially and economically disadvantaged areas.

“Since 2013,…

Pastor Andy Savage Is Planting New Church after Resigning over Sexual Assault

Pastor Andy Savage Is Planting New Church after Resigning over Sexual Assault

The former teaching pastor at Highpoint Church in Tennessee, Andy Savage, has launched a new church after resigning from his previous post because of a sexual assault that took place when he was a youth pastor.

Savage’s victim, Jules Woodson, broke the news of her encounter with Savage in a bombshell interview with the New York Times in March of last year, noting her disgust that Andy was applauded for his admission before his church – during his address, Savage passed the assault off as a “sexual incident” and reiterated that it had taken place 20 years prior.

Responding to the news of Savage’s new ministry exploits, Woodson, expressed astonishment that her former abuser was free to return to the pulpit.

“He was my ordained Youth Minister. He knew me and groomed me since I was 14,” she tweeted. “This was not a mistake it was a crime! Per TX law it is non-consensual sexual assault. Fine, let him move on & sit in the pews, but he has absolutely disqualified himself from the pulpit.”

Pete Greig hands over leadership of 24-7 Prayer

It’ll now be led by Mike Andrea who will serve as CEO.

24-7 Prayer is an international, interdenominational movement of prayer.

It equips people to pray in churches, schools, nightclubs and various other places.

Announcing the move on Facebook, Greig said: “Sammy (wife) and I are entering a new season having celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary while our sons turned 21 and 18, I turned 50, and 24-7 turned 20 all in the last year. We sense that this is meant to be a time of jubilee!

“Of course, we will continue to bring leadership to the 24-7 movement – speaking, writing and offering hospitality, mentoring and convening key leaders, supporting the worldwide family of 24-7 communities, shaping culture and vision at a high level. We will also continue to lead and be deeply rooted in our Christian family at Emmaus Rd Church, serve on the Wildfires Festival team and Sammy will continue to train as a Counsellor. There’s plenty to do!

“Meanwhile, the church and the movement continue to grow which means that the pressures on my schedule have been increasing unsustainably for quite some time. Candidly, I need to slow down without slowing the movement down. This means relinquishing position, power and control – something that leaders aren’t always very good at – but by God’s grace we find ourselves simply overwhelmed with joy.”

Greig will continue to serve the organisation…
