The dictionary that traces its roots to 19th-century author and lexicographer Noah Webster now says “they” can refer to one person – instead of only multiple people, as previously defined.  

Merriam-Webster said this week an additional definition had been added to the word “they” in reference to non-binary persons.

The additional definition reads: “Used to refer to a single person whose gender identity is nonbinary.” 

It is accompanied by a sample sentence: “I knew certain things about … the person I was interviewing. … They had adopted their gender-neutral name a few years ago, when they began to consciously identify as nonbinary – that is, neither male nor female. They were in their late 20s, working as an event planner, applying to graduate school.” 

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBT group, celebrated the news.

“Visibility matters. Pronouns matter,” HRC said in a tweet. 

Others, though, didn’t welcome the change. 

National Review called it “non-binary nonsense.” 

Author Make Pantano also criticized the change.

President Donald Trump is expressing support for a U.S.-Israel mutual defense treaty as his ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, faces a tough re-election bid.

The president acknowledged in a Saturday tweet that he had discussed pursuing such a treaty with Netanyahu in advance of today’s election.

“I had a call today with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of moving forward with a Mutual Defense Treaty, between the United States and Israel, that would further anchor the tremendous alliance. … between our two countries,” the president tweeted. “I look forward to continuing those discussions after the Israeli Elections when we meet at the United Nations later this month!”

Netanyahu responded with his own tweet, looking beyond the election.

“Thank you my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump,” he posted. “The Jewish State has never had a greater friend in the White House. I look forward to our meeting at the UN to advance a historic Defense Treaty between the United States and Israel.”

A school principal in Pakistan allegedly kidnapped a 15-year-old Christian girl and forced her to convert to Islam.

According to the Press Trust of India, Faiza Masih was forcibly taken to a Muslim seminary by her school principal, Saleema Bibi, where she was made to convert.

Faiza’s father, Mukhtar Masih, filed a report with the police when his daughter did not return home from school on Wednesday. The police contacted the school, who informed them that the girl had gone to a seminary.

Mukhtar went to three different seminaries, but when he found her at one of them, the staff did not allow him to take her. Police then raided the seminary and recovered the girl, bringing her to a shelter home.

But Faiza has still not been returned to her family.

According to the Mukhtar, the school has attempted to convert the teenager other times. The school told Faiza that if she read Arabic in school, she would “automatically become a Muslim.”

“The principal has also offered us to convert to Islam and in return, she would compensate us by paying for our needs, but we refused,” Mukhtar said. The family is working with authorities to bring their daughter home.

But, according to journalist Naila Inayat, “The teacher who taught Arabic to the girl in the government school told her you can’t go back home now as you’re a Muslim.”

Dove and Grammy award-winning Christian artist Lauren Daigle has released details on her first-ever headline arena world tour. Daigle will perform for 44 days from Australia to LA, starting on January 18, according to Faithwire.

The 28-year-old star hopes the tour brings hope and healing.

“I love putting out a vibe where people are free to respond however they feel and where people feel like a warm welcome, where they can have a good laugh and let go of some of the things they have been holding on to through the stress of family or work or whatever,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s going to be lively and fun and cheerful as well as emotionally connected.”

Chick-fil-A’s annual sales have more than doubled since LGBT and liberal groups began calling for a boycott of the restaurant in 2012, according to a new analysis. 

In 2012, when controversy arose over the CEO’s comments about same-sex marriage, sales totaled $4.6 billion, up from $4.1 billion the year before.

In 2018, sales totaled $10.46 billion, making it the third-largest restaurant in the United States behind McDonald’s and Starbucks.

The boycott may have driven a few customers away, although it apparently attracted far more. The chain also has opened nearly 700 new restaurants since the boycott began, according to the Journal & Courier newspaper, which reported the data in a Sept. 17 story and examined the effectiveness of the boycott.  

“The only ones who seem to have any kind of beef with the wildly popular chicken restaurant are a minivan-size group of squeaky extremists on the far left,” Glenn T. Stanton, director of global family formation studies at Focus on the Family and the author of Myth of the Dying Church, told Christian Headlines. “They’ve concluded that Chick-fil-A is bigoted without the slightest bit of evidence – only that their founders believe in natural marriage.
