Some areas in the Carolinas could potentially face 15 inches of rain as Hurricane Dorian continues its northward trajectory up the east coast. Dorian pelted Charleston, South Carolina with heavy winds and rain for most of the day on Thursday, the Post and Courier reports. Waterspouts moved onshore near Myrtle Beach and triggered a series of tornado warnings.

As of 10:00 PM Thursday night, Dorian was off the coast of North Carolina with maximum sustained winds of 100 MPH and was moving NE at 13 MPH, Weather Underground reports. While the eye of the storm remains over the Atlantic, tropical-storm-force winds extend over 200 miles from the center and hurricane-force winds extend almost 60 miles from the center.

The Governors of the two states are still preaching caution to their residents. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said Dorian’s arrival could bring “sustained winds up to 100 miles an hour, the threat of tornadoes and a high risk of dangerous flash floods.” Even though the worst of the storm had passed South Carolina, Governor Henry McMaster urged caution. According to the New York Times, he said, “We’re still battening down the hatches. When the wind stops, we still have to deal with the water, because the water’s going to last longer.”

For nearly a half-century, Johnny Cash’s inimitable voice and songs provided the soundtrack to millions of American lives. Cash held a special place in our hearts as he was many things to many people: a master storyteller and a world-class embellisher; a drug addict and a social activist; a full-tilt party outlaw who secretly carried a Bible in his briefcase; a committed Christian who was both a sinner and saint; a tortured soul who sometimes pinballed between the two extremes.

In my new book, Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon, I unearthed many stories about the country music legend. Here are ten quick facts I discovered.

1. He was raised as a dirt-poor child in the Arkansas Delta in the midst of the Great Depression. Like the rest of his siblings, he picked cotton to help support his family. The work was monotonous, dirty and tiring – ten hours a day during harvest season. Cash was so prodigious, according to a childhood friend, that on a good day he could pick up to 300 pounds.

A prominent pro-life group is accusing Facebook of bias after it placed restrictions on the organization’s content and labeled as “false news” the claim that “abortion is never medically necessary.” 

Live Action – one of the nation’s most well-known and popular pro-life groups – says it received a message from Facebook Aug. 30 stating, “Your page has violations.” Facebook flagged a video of a speech from Live Action founder and president Lila Rose.

“Your page has reduced distribution and other restrictions because of repeated sharing of false news,” the message from Facebook said. “People will also be able to see if a page has a history of sharing false news.”

In the speech, Rose said, “If you talk to a doctor who is not indoctrinated by leftist talking points… you will discover that abortion – which is defined as the direct and intentional killing of an embryo, a fetus, a baby in the womb – is not a medical treatment.” Abortion, she said in the speech, is “never medically necessary.”

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 4, 2019 (Morning Star News) – The 8-year-old boy didn’t realize that telling his Muslim relatives how much he enjoyed a church choir would cause them to attack his family. 

The seventh and youngest child of 54-year-old Lezia Nakayiza, widowed since September 2018, he didn’t know that his family was keeping their faith secret in Kasenge village, Wakiso District, in central Uganda near the capital city of Kampala. 

“I could not share my faith with the brothers of my husband as well as the relatives who are radical Muslims,” Nakayiza told Morning Star News by phone. “In June my younger son told one of the relatives of the wonderful choir at church, and that we have been attending the church since March. This was the beginning of our persecution.” 

Word began to spread that relatives of her late husband, Sheik Kiita Suleiman, were planning to punish her for leaving Islam. 

“A Christian neighbor informed me that the family was planning to attack us,” Nakayiza said. 

They struck on June 20. 

“At around 8 p.m. by the light from moonlight, I peeped through the window and saw many people approaching our house with sticks and other weapons with loud noise from the animals’ shed,” she said, adding that she heard them shouting, “Away with this infidel!”

Benny Hinn, who rose to prominence as one of the world’s most well-known preachers of the so-called prosperity gospel, said this week he is “correcting” his views and no longer believes the health-and-wealth theology he formerly espoused.  

Hinn said during the Sept. 2 broadcast of Your LoveWorld that the “gospel is not for sale.” 

“I’m correcting my own theology, and you all need to know it,” he said. “… Because when I read the Bible now, I don’t see the Bible in the same eyes I saw the Bible 20 years ago.”

Prosperity theology promotes the idea that God wants all Christians to be wealthy and healthy. According to this belief, God’s blessings are released when Christians donate money. 

Hinn and other prosperity gospel televangelists were the subject of a 2007 U.S. Senate committee probe examining their financial records. As Christian Headlines previously reported, one of those televangelists, Joyce Meyer, said earlier this year she now rejects much of the prosperity theology she formerly taught. Hinn is the second preacher from that group to renounce the movement’s core beliefs.
