Archaeologists Find Church of the Apostles Near Sea of Galilee
A team of American and Israeli archaeologists have discovered the Church of the Apostles near the Sea of Galilee. The church, which is believed to have been built over the house of disciples Peter and Andrew, also indicates the location of the city of Bethsaida, where Jesus healed a blind man.
An archaeological team from Kinneret College in Israel and Nyack College’s Center of the Study of Ancient Judaism and Christian Origins has discovered pieces of marble and small gilded glass blocks called tesserae in previous excavations made in the site of el-Araj near the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. “These discoveries already informed us that the church was waiting to be found somewhere nearby,” Prof. Steven Notley of Nyack College explained to Fox News.
The team later found the church’s mosaic floors, which had been buried for almost 1,500 years. According to the Center’s press release, these discoveries indicate a “large and magnificent church.”
Ancient documents mention the Church of the Apostles, including one written by a Bavarian bishop named Willibald in 725 A.D. “[Willibald] states that the church was in Bethsaida built over the house of Peter and Andrew, among the first disciples of Jesus,” Notley said.
The significance of the discovery proves not only the existence of the church, but also narrows the scope of Bethsaida’s location….

Convicted rapist wins battle for church services for inmates
Freddie O’Neil, is serving a ten year sentence for rape and is currently an inmate at the John Howard Centre in London.
After being transferred to the psychiatric centre in 2018, Mr O’Neil filed a complaint about the lack of Christian services available to inmates.
Mr O’Neil claimed his numerous requests were not taken seriously by the NHS Trust which runs the centre, after which he sought legal action with the Christian Legal Centre (CLC).
A pre-action letter was sent to the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) stating that, as a Christian, the patient needed to attend Sunday Christian services each week and receive Holy Communion.
CLC had been informed that no such service was available, which was in contrast to the Friday prayers being organised for Muslim inpatients each week.
In refusing the patient these services, CLC claimed the John Howard Centre was not only discriminating against Christian patients on the grounds of religion, but also breaching a number of its legal obligations including the right to freely exercise their religious faith through worship and observance.
Following a year-long legal battle, O’Neil said he knew he needed to take a stand, not only for his own spiritual needs but for those of his fellow inmates saying: “I am a damaged person, a convicted criminal, but the only true redemption I have found in my life is hope in Jesus Christ. I…

Rabbi Spat on outside of Synagogue Warns that Anti-Semitism Is on the Rise in Germany
A Jewish Rabbi who was spat on after conducting a prayer service has said that anti-semitism is spiraling out of control in Germany.
Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal had just left the synagogue in the Wilmersdorf district of West Berlin when he was attacked by a pair of Syrian teenagers. To make matters worse, the Rabbi was with one of his children when he was set upon.
Police we called to the scene and managed to detain one of the suspects – authorities later opened an investigation into the incident.
Speaking after the attack, Rabbi Teichtal warned that anti-semitic attitudes were increasing dramatically across the European nation, as far-right groups gain more traction and influence in mainstream society.
“Unfortunately we have to state that the aggressions against Jews have developed a life of their own both in the schoolyards and on the streets of Berlin,” he said, according to Israel National News.
The Rabbi remained hopeful, however, that most of the German people were committed to stamping out anti-semitic attitudes.
“I remain convinced that most people in Berlin do not want to accept this aggression against Jews as a sad part of everyday Jewish life,” he said. “Most people in Berlin want Jewish people to be able to live their Judaism openly without being afraid of being insulted, spat at or even beaten.

Concern raised after Christians banned from meeting in China
The Christians are all former members of Living Stone Church – an unregistered house church in southwest China, which according to reports from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) has faced increasing levels of religious persecution.
In 2015, the church was accused of illegally using a commercial building for its services and several church members were detained or fined in connection with the case.
Many more of its 700 members have since been pressurised not to attend services and several of its pastors have faced prison sentences.
Living Stone Church pastors, Yang Hua and Su Tianfu was were arrested for ‘illegally possessing state secrets’, Pastor Yang spent nearly three years in prison before being released in 2018 whilst Pastor Su Tianfu remains detained under a suspended sentence.
After authorities effectively closed down the church, the members have continued to meet in small groups, despite ongoing harassment from the authorities.
CSW’s Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said: “Once again the Chinese authorities have used the Regulations on Religious Affairs to violate the right freedom of religion or belief, in contravention of international provisions protecting this fundamental human right.
