How to make Spiced Eggs

One of my very earliest and favorite recipes since starting this blog…! This egg dish is popularly called …. Eggs!!!

Well sorry, no “devil” eggs in here, we are Christians! (hehehe..) What we have instead are delicious, delicately Spiced Eggs. These eggs are so delicious and easy to make but are usually in the obscured memories of the typical Nigerian chef. I have found that they are one of the simplest and hassle free canapés to make and they score very high with guests every-time! Try  Recipe here.

The border crisis and a viral photo: Biblical responses to the needs of children

Rosa Ramirez, mother of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez

It is a photo that breaks your heart.

Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez died with his twenty-three-month-old daughter, Valeria, as they tried to cross from Mexico to the US. The New York Times describes them: “The father and daughter lie face down in the muddy water along the banks of the Rio Grande, her tiny head tucked inside his T-shirt, an arm draped over his neck.”

Their family had reportedly fled from oppressive poverty in El Salvador and had been waiting for two months in a migrant camp in Matamoros for an appointment to receive political asylum in the US. According to Óscar’s wife, Tania, the family decided to cross the Rio Grande out of desperation.

According to the journalist who later took their picture, Óscar crossed the Rio Grande with his daughter, then turned to get his wife. Valeria saw him swimming away and jumped after him. He clung to her, but a strong current drowned them.

Explaining the border crisis

The border crisis continues to dominate the news today.

The House passed a $4.5 billion emergency border aid package this week, mostly along party lines. However, Republicans argued that it contains inadequate funding and too many restrictions on the power of immigration agencies. The Senate then adopted a $4.5 billion bipartisan aid package yesterday after voting down the House version.

Given the political divisiveness and vitriol associated with the border crisis, I looked for a respected authority whose reporting on this issue can be trusted as objective and biblical. And so, I turned to the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT), headed by the president of the National Association of Evangelicals and the president of World Vision US, among others. It is supported by prominent pastors including Matt Chandler, Tony Evans, Jack Graham, Max Lucado, and Southern Baptist Convention…

‘What is happening to ensure we do not get to this stage?’

Police said the victim, believed to have been 18, was found with a stab injury in Uxbridge Road, Shepherd’s Bush, on Wednesday night.

Scotland Yard said a murder investigation has been launched and officers are looking into the circumstances of the incident, where exactly it took place and who was involved.

Local resident Derek Parks, 64, said the teenager went to a shop and was looking for cover after an incident in the street.

He said: “The fighting happened outside the shop doorway and the gentleman came in from outside. He came into the shop for cover.

“The other guy came into the shop with the knife and stabbed him.

“The guy who got stabbed went towards the basement of the shop and was hiding.”

The knifeman ran and there was “a trail of blood” at the scene, according to Mr Parks, who has lived in the area for 40 years.

He said: “There is going to be a lot more stabbing on the streets if the Government does not take serious action. It is also down to the parents to keep a check on the children.

“Life is a precious thing which we should all treasure. All life matters.”

Shopkeeper Sully Singh said there was a police cordon in place by the time he got to the store at around 9.45pm on Wednesday after a call from his night staff.

He said: “I got a telephone call from the guys and when I came here everyone was shocked. They…

A church’s attitude toward membership can hurt revitalization. Today, we expand on seven reasons why.

Episode Highlights:

  • “I give therefore I get” is the essence of the entitlement mentality in the church.
  • High expectation churches are highly functioning churches.
  • When you’re focused on doing things that actually matter, you don’t have time for things that don’t matter.
  • If you have an unhealthy view of church membership—one that’s inwardly focused—your church will likely neglect its community.

The seven reasons we discuss are:

  1. It creates an entitlement mentality.
  2. It lowers expectations.
  3. It is a distraction from the mission.
  4. It causes neglect of the community.
  5. It creates frustration and discouragement among the pastor and other leaders.
  6. It neglects evangelism.
  7. It hurts unity.

Resources mentioned in this episode include:

Three Million Brazilians Show Up to Massive ‘March for Jesus’ in São Paulo

Three Million Brazilians Show Up to Massive ‘March for Jesus’ in São Paulo

Some three million Christians turned out for an enormous “March for Jesus” in the Brazillian city of São Paulo last week.

President Jair Bolsenaro was in attendance at the vast religious gathering, which was held to give people an opportunity to pray and worship the Lord in the public square.

Every year, the March adopts a spiritual theme; this year, the theme was “The Rescuer,” based out of 1 Timothy 2:5-6, which reads:

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.”

“These themes are a reference of what Christ represents for us,” the organizers noted in comments cited by Evangelical Focus. “He rescued us from the empire of darkness and carried us into His mighty light. It is for Him that we march.”

The March’s president, Estevam Hernandes, kicked off proceedings outside a city centre metro station, by delivering a powerful public prayer.

“We cry out for Brazil, for the families, for the end of corruption, for the afflicted hearts, our country belongs to Jesus Christ,” he bellowed over the sprawling crowds. “To Him all honor, glory, power and majesty. As it says in Psalms 33: ‘Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord.’”

Praise and worship marathon

After several hours, the colossal…

How to make Plantain & Bean Hummus

Beans and plantains are a foodie match. Their tastes and flavours, textures complement each other so well.

As one gets older, it’s advised to make plant proteins the primary source of protein, and in Nigerian cuisine, beans (cow-peas) features prominently on the list of vegetables with high protein content. Beans also have high fibre, not forgetting other minerals and vitamins.

So I am always trying out new things with beans, just so that I do not get bored eating them or get stuck on just one way of eating them..! Check out my Beans Hummus & Bread recipe here.

One new way I enjoy eating beans is to make a paste out of them, similar to making hummus…actually my new Bean Paste dish is essentially fashioned after Hummus made from chickpeas…

The result is fantastic, healthy and versatile. Can be eaten any time of the day and super healthy … read more

Church could be forced by council to demolish new £920,000 hall

Bowthorpe Road Chinese Methodist Church were served an enforcement notice after its new extension was built 4.5m closer to homes than it should have been.

Catherine Hutton, superintendent minister for the Norwich Methodist Circuit, told Eastern Daily press: “We noticed there is a distinct lack of community buildings in the area, and the hall was erected to fill that gap while also providing a place of worship.

“It will be heartbreaking if we have to take it down. It will be a real loss to the community and the church as we have not yet been able to realise its potential.”

The church, which has a regular congregation of 160 people, has appealed the notice but could be required to demolish the building if it is unsuccessful.

The council gave the church planning permission in 2016 to demolish the former church hall and build a new one on the site.

However, an enforcement investigation began after neighbours noticed the distance between the hall and its boundary was not correct.

The church went on to make a new application seeking permission for where the hall had been built but this was turned down by the council’s planning committee.

The city council has stated that the building is “considered dangerous”.

Edmond Tsui, the church’s pastor said the congregation raised £300,000 for the hall, while the rest was funded through…
