A North Carolina woman undergoing a chemical abortion had a change of heart when she learned she was carrying twins and was able to save her babies thanks to the work of a pro-life pregnancy center.   

The woman was six weeks pregnant when she visited a Charlotte, N.C., abortion clinic – A Preferred Women’s Health Center – with the goal of ending the pregnancy. 

Pregnancy Help News first reported the story. 

“Oh – twins,” the technician at the abortion clinic said while performing an ultrasound.

The pregnant woman had always wanted twins, and she swallowed the first pill without having time to consider the consequences. 

A chemical abortion is a two-step process involving a pair of drugs, RU-486 (mifepristone) and misoprostol. Together, they’re known as the abortion pill. Mifepristone blocks the natural hormone progesterone and causes the lining of the uterus to release the unborn baby. Misoprostol starts the contractions that result in delivery of a dead baby.

Leaving the clinic, the woman heard a sidewalk counselor: “It might not be too late for you – AbortionPillReversal.com– they can still help you save your baby.”

The woman, known pseudonymously as “Alexis,” visited the website and called the phone number that was listed. She wanted to save her babies.

Religious donations dropped nearly $2 billion last year, reversing a years-long trend of steady growth, according to the Giving USA Foundation’s annual report on philanthropy.

The decline comes as 2018 marked the first full year of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. That law doubled the standard deductions for families meaning many filers no longer need to itemize charitable donations. Critics of the plan argued the change would hit charitable organizations hard, as there was no longer a tax incentive to give.

Giving USA Chair Rick Dunham, the CEO of Dunham + Company, in an interview with the Christian Post, suggested there were other factors at play in the findings.

“I do think there are some negative things happening within the religious community that could affect giving, such as a denominational split we are seeing, the problems within the Catholic church,” Dunham said. “There are a number of things that could definitely be forces that are driving down giving.”

The 2019 study, conducted by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and released on June 18, found that, although overall charitable giving in the U.S. rose 0.7 percent to a record level of nearly $428 billion last year, when adjusted for inflation total giving declined by 1.7 percent from 2017’s record levels.

Tensions continue to run high between the United States and Iran after President Trump announced a fresh round of sanctions and reports surfaced that the United States had targeted Iran with a cyber-attack.

The escalating conflict began earlier this month when the United States accused Iran of attacking two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and Iran announced they would ratchet up their low-enriched uranium production. By increasing uranium production, Iran violated the 2015 nuclear agreement signed by President Obama along with leaders from Russia, France, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. President Trump pulled the United States out of the deal in 2017.

The conflict came within hours of violence after Iran shot down one of the United States’ unmanned drones, CNN reports. Iran claims the drone was in Iranian airspace, but the U.S. said the drone was over international waters. President Trump called off a planned retaliatory missile strike after he learned that as many as 150 people could have been killed.

President Trump explained his reasoning in an interview with Meet the Press. He said, “I thought about it for a second, I said, they shot down an unmanned drone, a plane, whatever you want to call it, and here we are sitting with 150 dead people,” CBN News reports.

A conservative Christian advocacy group in Australia has donated $100,000 to help prominent rugby star Israel Folau in his legal battle against being fired for posting a religious message on social media. The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) used its platform to set up another donations page after popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe pulled the plug on Folau’s campaign, citing a violation of user policy.

“On behalf of the Australian Christian Lobby, I have spoken to Israel Folau to let him know that ACL will be donating $100,000 to his legal defence, because it’s right and it sets an important legal precedent,” said ACL’s Managing Director Martyn Iles in a statement on the group’s website.

“I have also offered to host his online appeal for funds here on our website and he has accepted our offer,” he added, before urging supporters to “help Israel Folau stand for your religious freedom” by donating.

Since GoFundMe axed Folau’s fundraising efforts, the new campaign has been raising over $1,000 per minute and is currently sitting at over $1.5 million. In a statement, GoFundMe said that they deleted the athlete’s page because it “breached its terms of service.”

TIZI-OUZOU, Algeria, June 25, 2019 (Morning Star News) – A judge on June 16 handed a Christian father of two in northwest Algeria a suspended prison sentence and a hefty fine for holding worship at his house, four days before another judge fined the owner of land that a church uses.

Prosecutors had sought a six-month prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 Algerian dinars (US$4,200) for the 35-year-old father in Mostaganem, a coastal town about 350 kilometers (217 miles) west of Algiers. The judge instead delivered the two-month, suspended prison sentence and a fine of 100,000 dinars ($840) to the new Christian, who requested anonymity as he fears for his life in the officially Muslim North African country.

For inviting a Christian couple to pray with him, an area source said, he was accused of organizing Christian worship in his home under Algeria’s notorious religion law of June 2006, commonly known as the 03/06 law, which forbids non-Muslim worship for unregistered churches. The law stipulates that churches must obtain the permission of a national committee to be registered, but this committee has never met, and no church request has been officially considered or approved, sources said.

Millennials often are considered the forerunner on changing attitudes about LGBT issues, but a new poll reveals they may be growing more traditional and conservative.  

Exactly one-third (33 percent) of Americans ages 18-34 say they would be uncomfortable having their child placed in a class with an LGBTQ teacher – an increase from 29 percent among that age group in 2017 and 25 percent in 2016. 

Additionally, 39 percent of 18-34-year-old adults say they’d be uncomfortable learning their child had a lesson on LGBTQ history in school. That, too, was an uptick from 2017 (30 percent) and 2016 (27 percent).

The survey was conducted by the Harris Poll for Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) among 1,754 non-LGBTQ American adults. 

On both questions, Millennials are equal to or more traditional than the general population.

Among all adults, 32 percent say they would be uncomfortable having their child in a class with an LGBTQ teacher – a slight gain from 2017 (31 percent) and 2016 (28 percent). 

And 39 percent of all adults say they would be uncomfortable with their child having LGBTQ history lessons, an increase from 2017 (37 percent) and 2016 (34 percent).

One of the hottest prospects in the NFL, Deshaun Watson, has been baptized in the Jordan River. The 23-year-old was invited to the Holy Land by a group called “America’s Voices in Israel,” which organizes trips for Latino and African-American celebrities to experience the ancient Biblical region. 

Alongside posting several photos from his trip on Instagram, Watson also issued a heartfelt statement, in which he expressed a deep affection for the land of Israel. “This is a part of the world which gets a lot of attention internationally, and this is a chance for me to look beyond the headlines and learn more about the history and culture of this land,” he said, according to Relevant Magazine.
