AMMAN, Jordan — October 26, 2026
Jordanian authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with a deadly attack on St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Karak, southern Jordan, during a funeral on Friday, October 23.
The attack killed nine people and wounded dozens, according to reports published on Monday. The suspects were located in an abandoned house in the Karak area after a search operation. Authorities said they were injured during a shootout before being taken into custody.
King Abdullah II condemned the attack and vowed that those responsible would face severe punishment. Christian leaders and international organisations have also condemned the violence and called for unity between Jordan’s Christian and Muslim communities.
No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities have not confirmed a definitive motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
