Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin has renewed the Holy See’s appeal for global peace, urging world leaders to prioritise dialogue, justice and international cooperation in addressing ongoing conflicts.

Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly in September 2026, Cardinal Parolin warned that violence and military confrontation were spreading across several regions, creating serious humanitarian challenges for vulnerable communities.

He specifically highlighted the continuing wars in Ukraine and Sudan, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and growing instability in the Middle East. He called for an immediate end to hostilities and encouraged governments to pursue diplomatic solutions rather than relying on military strength.

The Cardinal also stressed that genuine peace requires more than the absence of war. It must be built on respect for human dignity, justice, international law and the protection of innocent civilians.

His appeal reflects the Vatican’s continuing commitment to peacebuilding and its call for international leaders to work together towards a safer and more peaceful world.
