A memorial service to honor the life of the late Inland Hills Church lead pastor, Andrew Stoecklein, who died after attempting suicide at his church has been set for Saturday.

The Chino, California, church announced on Tuesday that a memorial service for the beloved pastor, who was 30, will be held at the Events Center of California Baptist University in Riverside and will start at 10 a.m.

“In stories, in video, in music, and in community, we celebrate everything we loved about Andrew as a pastor, a family member, and a friend,” the church said in a brief statement about the late pastor.

Stoecklein’s suicide, which came after a battle with depression and anxiety, has attracted international attention and sparked serious discussions about how mental health is treated in the church.

Tamrin Olden, crime prevention supervisor with the City of Chino Police Department, told The Christian Post that at about 11:08 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, they received a call from Inland Hills Church about an attempted suicide. When they arrived, they identified Pastor Stoecklein as the victim who would die hours later at a local hospital.

Nearly $300,000 has since been raised in a GoFundMe campaign to help the late pastor’s 29-year-old widow, Kayla, and their three young…

Bible reading on TV sparks call for end of religious public broadcasting

The verses from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians were broadcast on radio and Flemish TV station VRT from a Catholic mass in the town of Grimbergen.

A lay reader quoted Ephesians 5 22-33: “Women, be submissive to your husband as the husband to the Lord. For the man is the head of the woman as Christ is the head of the church.”

Sven Gatz, Flemish Minister for Culture, Youth, Media and Brussels, told newspaper Het Nieuwsblad: “The fact that they come from an old book is not an argument for letting them go to our people.

“This is not of this time, and that it is broadcast on the VRT for the whole of Flanders is already completely crazy.”

VRT has welcomed debates but in a statement pointed out that the verse that had sparked controversy had been taken out of context.

A spokesman for the Dutch Bible society told the Telegraph: “The contested statement is preceded by a very different sentence, ‘Accept each other’s authority out of respect for Christ’.

“This indicates that this is a very different matter than legitimisation of the oppression of women by men.”

Resisting Sexual Revolution Together May Be How God Unites Christians: Author

(Photo: Reuters/Brian Snyder)Valerie Marchesi, dressed as a package of birth control pills, waits for U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to be publicly endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund in Hooksett, New Hampshire, January 10, 2016.

A robust repudiation of the sexual revolution should unite Christians of every tradition, says author Jennifer Roback Morse.

And resisting this ongoing onslaught side by side just might be the very thing God does to heal the Church of the many divides that abound, she believes, because there is no choice but to stand and fight together given the present cultural landscape.

Morse, who is the founder and president of the Lake Charles, Louisiana-based Ruth Institute explained in a phone interview with The Christian Post last week that for far too long, believers in Jesus Christ have been playing footsie with the ideology of the sexual revolution. This deceptive, deadly creed and the accompanying movement is fundamentally opposed to our faith, she insists, and it has created millions upon millions of wounded people whose voices are seldom heard.

In her latest book, The Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives and Why The Church Was Right All Along, which was released last month, Morse unpacks how the sexual revolution is an interlocking, three-pronged dogma — contraceptive ideology, divorce ideology, and gender ideology — that has ruined countless lives and has never been properly combated….

Pastor Faces Eviction for Hosting Bible Study at Apartment, Complaint Says

Pastor Faces Eviction for Hosting Bible Study at Apartment, Complaint Says

A retired pastor faces eviction from his apartment complex after hosting a nondenominational Bible study for residents, according to a religious liberty organization.

Ken Hauge, 86, and his wife moved into a Fredericksburg, Va., senior living community known as “Evergreens at Smith Run” in January 2017. Residents asked Hauge — a semi-retired Lutheran minister – to begin leading a nondenominational Bible study, and he agreed to do so.

According to First Liberty Institute, Hauge rented the Community Room at the apartment complex for the Bible study, but management insisted he call it a “book review” on notices and in the apartment’s calendar. First Liberty found that Management finally allowed it to be labeled a “Bible study” after being contacted by a friend of one of the attendees.

The study was held for several months until July 23, when religious activities were banned in the community room, First Liberty said. Further, on the same day, Hauge received a notice saying his lease would be terminated unless he “stopped leading the Bible study entirely, either in his private apartment or in the Community Room,” according to a letter of complaint from First Liberty to management.

First Liberty asserts, the actions by the apartment complex violate the Fair Housing Act.

Billy Graham 6 September 2018 – Born Again

Topic: Born Again [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 6 September 2018]

Clothe yourself with this new nature. — Ephesians 4:24 (TLB)

In Texas they tell a story about a man who used to hitch his horse every morning in front of the saloon. One morning the saloonkeeper came out and found that the horse was hitched in front of the Methodist church. He saw the man walking down the street and called out, “Say, why is your horse hitched in front of the Methodist church this morning?” The man turned around and said, “Well, last night I was converted in the revival meeting, and I’ve changed hitching posts.” That’s what it means to be born again. That’s what it means to be converted. It means that you changed hitching posts.

Prayer for the day: May I live in such a way that people will know that I am bound in the freedom of Your love.

Westminster Abbey responds to travel company’s ‘overrated’ swipe

They responded to Far and Wide, a website which had warned potential visitors the central London landmark is also “so darn crowded” with “herds of tourists.”

A spokesman was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “Over a million people visited the Abbey last year… all appear to have enjoyed their visit or their moment of worship.”

The attraction was among 30 sites – which also included Stonehenge in Wiltshire – featured in a list of “Overhyped, overrated tourist traps to avoid at all costs”.

While acknowledging the Abbey is “impressive”, the article also reminded visitors they will need to go elsewhere if you want to see the resting place of William Shakespeare or the place when Prince Charles and Princess Diana got married.

It continues: “There are a lot of famous churches and cathedrals in the UK; make sure this is one you really want to see.”

In its own response, Jennifer Davies, the lead at English Heritage for Stonehenge, told the Daily Mail: “People flock from all over the world to experience this enduring symbol of mystery and ancient achievement.

“Last year, 1.5 million visitors came to Stonehenge… we’re sorry this writer didn’t see it that way”.

Former Senator Jon Kyl Appointed to Fill the Late John McCain’s Seat

Former Senator Jon Kyl Appointed to Fill the Late John McCain’s Seat

On Tuesday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced the selection of Jon Kyl to succeed the late Senator John McCain in Washington. Kyl, 76, who served 18 years as a senator and held the position of minority whip, was once considered one of the most powerful Republicans in the U.S. Senate.

Ducey told the press at a news conference at the Arizona Capitol that he expected Kyl to “hit the ground running” when he arrived in Washington, D.C.

The governor continued saying, “It’s not the time for newcomers, and now is not the time for on-the-job training.”

“Sen. Kyl is a beacon of integrity, highly regarded by people on both sides of the aisle and able to work across party lines to get results,” Ducey said. “There’s a reason he was considered one of the best senators in the country.”

According to USA Today, Kyl, who as agreed to serve at least through the end of the year, will likely be sworn into office on Wednesday.

At the news conference on Tuesday Kyl said, “I’m accepting this appointment to fill the seat vacated by the passing of my dear friend because of my sense of duty to the state I love and the institution of the Senate which I served for 18 years, and because the governor asked for my help.”

Cindy McCain, the wife of the late Senator John McCain, voiced her support for the Kyl’s appointment on Twitter saying, “Jon Kyl is a dear friend of mine and…

There are plans to oust Christians from the region

Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo of Hassaké-Nisibi has said Kurdish authorities in north-east Syria are determined to drive out Christians from the region.

The senior church leader has claimed that the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS), the Kurdish self-governing regional authority, has been unfairly closing Christian schools.

Archbishop Hindo told Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) that the DFNS has targeted 85-year-old Christian institutions because of their refusal to comply with the new Kurdish curriculum.

“The Kurdish officials had assured us that they would not even look at the private [Catholic] schools, but they not only looked at them, they closed them,” he said.

“For years I have been saying that the Kurds are trying to eliminate the Christian presence in this part of Syria.

“Since the beginning of the year, the local government has already taken possession of about 100 state-run schools and introduced their own curriculum and textbooks.”

“They do not want us to instruct pupils in the liturgical language, Syriac, and they do not want us to teach history because they prefer to drum their own history into the heads of pupils.”

He expressed concern that Kurdish forces will close the remaining Christian schools and has urged the international community to take action.

“The West cannot keep silent, Archbishop Hindo said.

“You are…

Australian Christians Choose Homeschooling in Droves amid Religiously Targeted Bullying

Australian Christians Choose Homeschooling in Droves amid Religiously Targeted Bullying

The Daily Mail reports that deeply religious families in Australia are more frequently choosing to homeschool their children as a result of increased religious bullying.

Some parents have reported incidence of their children being taunted and targeted because of their moral opposition to same-sex marriage.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, the number of students being homeschooled has nearly doubled since 2014 with approximately 4,479 students partaking in home school education.

The Accelerate Christian Home Schooling co-ordinator Stuart Chapman said, ‘In our celebration of a diversity, Christians are now the ones who are the target of bullying and in the minority.’

Chapman continued, ‘[Parents are] feeling their children are being targeted because they believe in the traditional family.’

Chapman then cited on incident where “students who opposed same sex marriage were forced to stand at the back of their classrooms. “

In 2017, Australia legalized same sex marriage, and Chapman argues that since this vote, families are in fear of their children being attacked for having opposing values. Reportedly many of these families fear “the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction,” which has led many parents to pull their children from public and traditional schools.

Purportedly, due to the high cost of religious private…

Calls for new Bible translations in Indonesia following deadly attacks

International Bible translation charity Wycliffe Associates said it wants to begin Bible translation in hundreds of languages in Indonesia in the next six months after church bombings earlier this year.

The charity said attacks on Christian churches as recently as May, where 13 people died in three church bombings on the same day, haven’t deterred Indonesian Christians from wanting to see the Bible translated into their respective languages.

Bruce Smith, CEO of Wycliffe Associates said: “People are so hungry for hope, desperate for the truth of God’s Word even in remote areas, even in areas of intense persecution.”

More than 700 languages are spoken across Indonesia, and Wycliffe Associates has received multiple requests from Christians there who want to translate the Bible for their own language groups.

Smith added: “Now the word is out Christians all over this 13,000-island nation are pleading for the training and tools to get started translating the Scriptures into their own heart language.”

Wycliffe Associates hopes to provide 1,021 computer tablets with translation software to mother tongue translators in Indonesia.

“Translators are waiting and ready, willing to risk everything in order to offer God’s Word to their people,” Smith said.

“But until they have the tools, their people-after waiting for decades-can only keep waiting. I believe the time is now.”
