HBO’s Yvonne Orji Talks about How the Holy Spirit Freed Her from Depression

HBO’s Yvonne Orji Talks about How the Holy Spirit Freed Her from Depression

HBO star Yvonne Orji, from the hit series “Insecure,” recently opened up about how the Holy Spirit saved her when she was in the pit of her depression.

Orji hosts a podcast called Jesus & Jollof with Luvvie Ajayi, and on the week four episode, “From Bottom to Breakthrough” she opens up about her difficult journey to make it in the entertainment industry.

After being promised a hosting job for a daily TV show on an unnamed network, Orji was asked to suggest names for other shows the network needed hosts for. She gave the network a list of people she “thought would do a good job.”

What happened next was what Orji said led to her depression. “I find out through the grapevine that one of the people I suggested, they made a better, bigger offer to that person and came back and told me that they only had groundnut and banana for me for pay,” the actress said.

She continued, “I was literally looking depression in the face. I could have let it take me out, but it was just like, ‘God I’ve done everything as right as I could.’ I’m even helping other people live out their dreams when I don’t even have my dream yet.”

During this time Orji said she didn’t even have enough money for gas so that she could go to church. Orji prayed to God saying, “God if you want me to volunteer at the church I need gas money.’ And there was sometimes where I only had…

Manal Mikhail, Egypt’s First Female Christian Governor, Takes Office – Urban Christian News

Manal Mikhail (Photo: Egyptian Streets Online)

President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi of Egypt on Thursday swore in 21 New Provincial Governors, including the First Female Governor from the country’s minority Christian Community.

Manal Mikhail has been appointed governor of the coastal city of Damietta, becoming the first-ever Christian woman to hold such a position, private newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported.

The 51-year-old woman’s previous post was deputy governor of Giza, home to the world-famous pyramids.

Egypt has the largest Christian community in the Middle East, accounting for around 10 per cent of the country’s mostly Muslim population of 95 million.

Egypt’s Christians have long complained of persecution and Islamist attacks.

Al-Sissi, a Muslim, is popular among the country’s Christians, who backed his ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi following Mass Street protests against his divisive rule.

Al-Sissi has courted the Christian community to an extent unseen for decades, visiting the main Coptic Orthodox cathedral in Cairo on several occasions since he took office in 2014.

In 2016, the parliament, led by al-Sissi’s backers, approved a long-awaited law aimed at easing restrictions on building churches.

New Report Reveals How Myanmar Military Blocked Aid to Christians in Kachin

New Report Reveals How Myanmar Military Blocked Aid to Christians in Kachin

A report from the human rights group Fortify Rights says that Myanmar military and civilian government could be prohibiting humanitarian aid to those displaced by violence in the Kachin state.

According to the 68-page report, Myanmar officials are “weaponizing” Kachin and keeping human rights organizations from delivering aid to the predominantly Christian and Catholic population living there.

China may also be encouraging Myanmar to block aid, the report says.

“Consecutive governments and the military have willfully obstructed local and international aid groups, denying Kachin civilians access to aid,” Fortify Rights CEO Matthew Smith said in a statement. “This may amount to a war crime, giving even more reason for the U.N. Security Council to refer Myanmar to the International Criminal Court.”

The report also said there are more than 106,000 ethnic civilians who are displaced by conflicts in Kachin and Shan. They live in some 140 displacement sites.

“They block everything,” a 60-year-old displaced Kachin man in KIA-controlled territory said of the Myanmar military. He also said there is “no food for people on the border.”

According to the report, from June 2017 to June 2018, the civilian government of Myanmar only approved about 5 percent of the 562 “travel authorization” applications from humanitarian aid organizations.

Fortify Rights also…

New Australian PM says he’ll ‘turn the other cheek’ after his faith is mocked on TV

A pair of comedians on the satirical television show Tonightly on Monday, mocked Scott Morrison and sang: “You’ve got to love thy neighbour unless they vote Labour or are foreign or gay.”

Other controversial lyrics included, “we love Jesus, Jesus, but not refugee-us” and “to do what pleases Jesus, deny them all visas.”

The Times reports that the evangelical politician responded to the network that permitted the footage to be aired.

“The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) can be numpties every now and then but my faith teaches me to love each other and to turn the other cheek,” Mr Morrison said.

While immigration minister from 2013, he implemented bills that deterred asylum seekers and opposed legal recognition of gay marriage.

The skit performed by comedians introduced as a Christian rock band that perform at Mr Morrison’s Horizon church in Sydney, has since received backlash on social media.

On a Facebook response to the Tonightly act, one user wrote: “This is abhorrent editorial garbage. Completely disrespecting the views of many Australians and faith.”

“Would they do this if he was a Muslim?” another asked.

The ABC has defended the performance and said the satirical skit was not an attack on Christianity.

Franklin Graham Calls America’s STD Problem a ‘Moral and Spiritual Crisis’

Franklin Graham Calls America’s STD Problem a ‘Moral and Spiritual Crisis’

Franklin Graham pointed to news of skyrocketing STD rates in the United States as evidence of our collective “moral and spiritual crisis.”

The series of tweets came in response to a CNN article reporting that a record number of STD cases, more than 2.3 million, were diagnosed in the United States in 2017. This was 200,000 more than the previous record, which was set in 2016.

David Harvey, the executive director of the National Coalition of STD directors, said that President Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar should declare this “a public health crisis.”

In the first of three tweets, Graham shared the link to the story, saying we had set another record, but that this one was carried no cause for celebration.

Then, he responded to Harvey’s call for President Trump to declare a public health crisis, saying that what we really have is a “moral and spiritual crisis.” He pointed to the rise in STDs as one symptom of the larger “crisis.”

LGBT, Antifa Groups Protest Worshipers at Texas Church That Upholds Biblical Views on Sexuality

(Photo: REUTERS/Jim Urquhart)An anti-fascist protester marches during competing demonstrations in Portland, Oregon, U.S. June 4, 2017.

Antifa groups and gay rights activists protested a megachurch in Texas earlier this week and doxed the pastor’s son all because they oppose the church’s biblical views on sexuality.

Stonewall Militant Front-ATX and AZAAD Austin were among the groups protesting Celebration Church, a multisite nondenominational church in the cities of Austin and Georgetown. Antifa was reportedly protesting the Austin congregation on Sunday because they were meeting at the Austin Independent School District’s Performing Arts Center. The activists’ goal is to pressure the AISD to stop renting its space out to Christian “homophobes,” PJ Media reports.

“Defend our youth from these attacks! Pride means fight back!” protesters said, waving rainbow flags, as worshipers walked into the auditorium.

When those attending the service left, protested yelled: “Bigots out of Austin; don’t come back.”

Under the Obama administration Antifa groups were designated as being a security threat and engaged in “domestic terrorist violence,” according to documents obtained by Politico, the National Review reports.

This week was the first time the church has rented the performing…

Youth worker challenges people to partake in ‘Scroll free September’ as social media becomes ‘a god’

The Royal Society for Public Health wants users to sign in to their accounts for the last time on 31st August ahead of ‘Scroll free September’.

The charity has claimed getting people to cut down on their social media use is as important as efforts to tackle smoking and drinking.

It follows campaigns like ‘Dry January’ and ‘Stoptober’, which encourage people to put their habits on pause.

Dave Cornes, youth minster at St James Church in Muswell Hill, north London, told Premier News Hour about how the misuse and overuse of social media can be dangerous.

“Social media is intended to bring people together so we can be connected and understand what’s going on in our friends and families lives,” he said.

“But the danger is with any good thing God has given to us we turn it into a god thing. The Bible calls it idolatry and it’s so easy to do that with social media.

“We compare ourselves to other people, we portray these perfect images of ourselves and yet we don’t share with other people the things that are wrong with our lives.

“So this initiative is really a great one I think to say, let’s have some self-control and tone back our social media usage a little bit.”

Cornes said getting involved in the campaign can also be beneficial to a Christian’s relationship with God.

“One of the brilliant principles in the Bible is self-control and equally with the principle of fasting…

Woman Claims Church Leader Said She Would Die if She Didn’t Have an Abortion

Woman Claims Church Leader Said She Would Die if She Didn’t Have an Abortion

A woman is claiming that Kofi Danso, the leader of the Miracle for All Nations, told her that God wanted her to abort the child Danso impregnated her with or else she would die.

Chris-Ann Bartley’s son is now 6 months old. According to a DNA test, Danso, who calls himself a prophet, is the father.

Earlier this month, Danso asked the court to keep the paternity results sealed in Bartley’s lawsuit against him. He said if people knew he was the father, his reputation would suffer.

Ontario Supreme Court Justice Fred Myers denied the request.

“Ms. Bartley’s evidence is that when she approached Mr. Danso to tell him that she was pregnant, he asked her to have an abortion. When she declined, she claims that he told her that ‘the Lord showed him if I have the child I would die,'” Myers wrote.

Danso is married to Rev. JoAnne Danso. They have four daughters. His wife is also pregnant with twins.

According to a July affidavit, Danos said he did not have “sexual relations” with Bartley. He said the claims were meant to make him “pay child support for the child who was fathered by another man.”

After the paternity test was revealed to Danso, he said he was “shocked.” He has since said that he was seduced into the affair.

“But he now admits to having been seduced by Ms. Bartley. He says that being married, he offended his marriage vows, and was…

Roof collapse at church thought to mark St Peter’s prison

Wooden beams supporting the terracotta tile roof of the Church of San Giuseppe dei Falegnami (St Joseph the Carpenter) in Rome gave away on Thursday. No one was hurt.

Ariel video footage posted online by Italy’s national fire corps appeared to show that more than half the building’s covering had caved in.

The place of worship had been closed to visitors at the time of the incident. The 16th century landmark is usually only open to the public for weddings.

It has constructed above the ancient Mamertine prison, where it is believed St Peter was held before his death – as well as St Paul.

One falling beam crashed through the floor of the church and penetrated a chapel below but it is understood the remains of the jail – located beneath the chapel – were not affected.

As a precaution, sniffer dogs were brought in by firefighters to ensure no one was buried in the rubble.
