Judge Rules Self-Styled Prophet, Brian Carn’s Business Partner Can’t Keep Identity Secret in Paternity Suit

(Photo: Facebook)Kofi Martin Danso, founder of Miracle Arena for All Nations, operates 17 churches including chapters in Toronto, Canada.

A Superior Court judge in Canada has ruled that Kofi Martin Danso, a self-styled prophet and leader of the multi-campus Miracle for All Nations church, cannot conceal his identity in a paternity lawsuit simply because he may suffer damage to his reputation and finances.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Fred Myers dismissed a request by Danso Tuesday to extend a publication ban and sealing order on a court file alleging he fathered a child with former congregant Chris-Ann Bartley, The Star said.

In addition to claims that he wanted the case private because “the matter concerns the paternity of a child which is disputed,” Danso argued to the court that making the case public threatened his “significant commercial/financial interests.” A ban on publication is typically used to protect the identities of children in family court matters.

In his request to keep the details of the lawsuit secret, Danso said that Theodora Oprea, Bartley’s attorney, told The Star that a DNA test had confirmed he is the father of Bartley’s now 6-month-old son.

Danso claims he has never been intimate with Bartley but Oprea said he is not being truthful.

Catholic School Terminates Lesbian Employee, Sparking Controversy

Catholic School Terminates Lesbian Employee, Sparking Controversy

A private Catholic high school was within its legal right to terminate an employee who married another woman, a legal expert says.

Roncalli High School in Indianapolis placed guidance counselor Shelly Fitzgerald on paid administrative leave Sunday after officials learned of her relationship, The Indianapolis Star reported. She had worked at the school for 15 years and has been asked either to resign or dissolve her marriage, she told local media.

Jim Bopp, an attorney and legal expert, said the school legally can require employees to follow a code of conduct because it is a religious organization. The school is exempt from the Indianapolis anti-discrimination ordinance, he said.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt whatsoever that Roncalli enjoys 100 percent First Amendment protection for making sure in conducting their ministry that the people who are conducting that ministry, i.e. any of the employees, are conducting themselves so that they’re not hypocrites,” he told The Star.

Fitzgerald’s termination has divided the school community and received extensive local media coverage.

“Shelly Fitzgerald was instrumental in changing so many lives,” Shawn Aldrich, a parent of a high school junior, told the newspaper.

Roncalli board of directors member Daniel Parker resigned to protest the termination.

But the school says it was following…

Vicar who didn’t go to uni straight away says you are not defined by your A-Levels

For many, just a few letters can determine where they spend the next three years, maybe more, of life.

But writing in a new e-book out this week, a vicar in Wales has appealed to the younger generation to not worry if they don’t have a life plan.

One of Rev Andrea Jones’ tips in the book ‘Three Things I’d Tell My Younger Self’ was ‘Don’t panic because you don’t have a big plan.’

Rev Andrea Jones told Premier: “I think when I was leaving school and not knowing what I wanted to do and going to Canada because couldn’t make my mind up, I looked at people and they were going off and they had clear ideas to be teachers or lawyers – but life isn’t like that. It’s not having a big A road and you set off and you get the satnav going and you’re gonna end up at the other end at your destination.

“You’ll turn up on all sorts of different paths, you’ll do all sorts of things that you didn’t expect!”

“You really do have to trust the Holy Spirit and be guided by God”

“You are not defined by your A-level results. I have never had anyone ask me in the last 30 years ‘what grades did you get at A-level?’ so it becomes pretty irrelevant pretty quickly after you make other life decisions”

She added that she didn’t do A-levels straight after school but attended university later in life when she trained for ordination.

“When we look at Jesus, well – he certainly didn’t go to…

Questions Remain for Faith-Based Agencies as Border Crisis Passes

Questions Remain for Faith-Based Agencies as Border Crisis Passes

(RNS) — To the World Relief volunteers in a mobile welcome center parked outside the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Wash., it was clear that the woman released from the center moments before had been separated from her children while seeking asylum at the United States border with Mexico.

The woman, called “Karla” to protect her identity, was smiling as she got into a car with Robin Jacobson, a board member with Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest, which runs the welcome center.

But as soon as the car door closed, Karla burst into tears.

In the short drive to Jacobson’s home, it all spilled out, with help from the Google Translate app: how Karla and her family had fled gang violence in El Salvador, how she’d been separated from her two daughters, how the 6-year-old hadn’t wanted to let go, how Karla hadn’t known where her 13-year-old was for 25 days, how the time spent in detention was marked by “unexpected suffering.”

Now Karla had a plane ticket to reunite with her family the next day in California, where she would stay while her case is pending.

Jacobson volunteers with a team from her church, hosting people coming out of detention through World Relief. After Karla had a night’s sleep, Jacobson drove her to the airport,…

Pastor Apologizes for Church Telling Breastfeeding Mother to Cover Up to Prevent ‘Lustfulness’

(PHOTO: REUTERS/MATHIEU BELANGER)A woman (R) breastfeeds her baby while another one bottle-feeds another, during the Defi Allaitement (Breastfeeding Challenge) in Quebec City, on Sept. 24, 2011.

A Michigan church pastor has apologized to a mother who was told to cover up for breastfeeding her child in order to prevent “lustfulness” in men.

Ben Walls Sr., lead pastor of the Naz Church in Brighton, told Livingston Daily last week that he has now apologized to 29-year-old Amy Marhant, the mother who was told to cover up by a church leader in mid-June.

“Of all the places, it is most hurtful when it comes from your own church, that you are going to cause guys to lust after you,” Marchant said about her experience.

“I was told it was immodest, that it was not shaming, that (breastfeeding) can cause men to lust and stumble,” she added. “They said as long as they provided places for women to nurse, they didn’t have to allow them to nurse anywhere.”

The pastor argued that the church has three different spaces set aside for “those who want a private space, including a lounge outside the restroom and two other rooms in a children’s area.

“That is what we want to say — we have nothing against breastfeeding and we are in favor,” the pastor stated.

Christians in Chicago Respond to Recent Spike in Gun Violence

Christians in Chicago Respond to Recent Spike in Gun Violence

Christians in Chicago are taking part in 40 days of outreach and ministry this summer to help the city recover from a spike in deadly gun violence in Chicago.

“Jesus Summer” started on July 14 after Chicago saw an increase in gun violence. During one weekend in the summer, at least 72 people were shot and 13 were killed in the city.

“Jesus Summer” started with a gathering of pastors, churches and city leaders praying on street corners. Groups then hosted other ministry events, such as a tent revival, meals for the homeless and children’s activities.

“We’re empowering the churches with millions of dollars worth of merchandise to make sure we can try to hit every home in Chicago with the gospel,” said Pastor Dimas Salaberrios, of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York. He helped launch “Jesus Summer.”

“That’s the mission and there are multiple events happening, at last count about 160 events taking place over the course of Jesus Summer, in the streets, in tough neighborhoods to share the love of Christ,” he said.

Salaberrios says he is fasting until Chicago has no shootings for one week.

“When you reach the shooters and the shooting stops, that brings peace right now,” he said. “I mean…no place in the United States has more murders than Chicago. If you add up the Iraqi war and Afghanistan, in the same time-period, Chicago’s homicides are far greater than…

Tributes pour in after Aretha Frank dies aged 76

The singer, whose career has spanned seven decades, died at her home in Detroit, Michigan, at 9.50am on Thursday, her publicist said.

A statement from Franklin’s family, via the singer’s long-time publicist Gwendolyn Quinn, said that she died “surrounded by family and loved ones”.

The statement continued: “Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.

“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.

US gospel artist Jocelyn Brown joined in with tributes being made around the world and told Premier she was hoping that Franklin wouldn’t die yet.

Speaking to Lady D on Premier Gospel, she said: “I wanted more from her but God has his own way.”

She added that she was comforted knowing that the star “knew prayer” and was “with the Lord”.

The family’s statement thanked people for their support since news broke that the singer was seriously ill.

“We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world,” the family said.

Sensational Soul Singer Aretha Franklin Passes Away at Age 76

After falling gravely ill earlier this week, soul singer and sensation Aretha Franklin has passed away this morning.

Franklin, who was 76-years-old was put in hospice care at the beginning of the week, her family hopeful that she would pull through. NME reports that the official cause of death was advanced pancreatic cancer, which reports have confirmed Franklin was been battling since 2011.

The powerful soul singer will undoubtedly go down in music history. Influenced and inspired by gospel music, Franklin grew up in church.

Franklin’s father was the minster at New Bethel Baptist Church earlier in her life. New Bethel Baptist Church, CBS reports, was where Franklin found her God given gift of singing. This was very important to Franklin so even as she began to develop as an artist, she maintained her gospel roots and influence and never forgot her faith.

Franklin released her first album, “Songs of Faith,” in 1956. In her 62 year career Franklin earned an incredible 10 top 10 singles, including “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Respect.”

Acccording to Business Insiders Franklin was one of the best-selling female artists in history with 75 million records sold worldwide.

‘Nominal Christianity’ Problematic for Evangelicalism, but What Is It? Lausanne Movement Tackles Issue

(Photo: Unsplash/Gregory Hayes)

The problem of nominal Christianity for evangelical churches was discussed at a recent Lausanne Movement conference.

Lars Dahle, a theology and journalism professor in Norway, who participated in a March 2018 Lausanne Movement conference in Rome that analyzed nominal Christianity, admitted in an interview with Evangelical Focus that the challenges begin by even trying to define the term.

“To define that was actually not as easy as it might sound. There was a growing understanding among all of us [at the conference] that this is a very complex reality, and we wanted to be fair in how we represent other people. We also wanted to be realistic, knowing that this is not just about everyone else, but also about our own church traditions within the evangelical contexts,” Dahle shared.

“And even, if I may add, something about the personal challenging dimension: to what extent do I and each one of us have an authentic life, living out the gospel, being close to Christ?”

The professor said that the five days of discussion at the Lausanne Movement’s Global Consultation conference were intense, but at the end, managed to come up with one definition of the term: “People who identify with a Christian church, or the Christian faith, but are in…
