Church Denies Throwing ‘COVID-19 Parties’ after Teen Congregant Dies from the Virus

Church Denies Throwing ‘COVID-19 Parties’ after Teen Congregant Dies from the Virus

A church in Fort Myers, Florida says the church did not host a party where a 17-year-old girl attended and later died of COVID-19.

“Over the past 24 hours, First Assembly of God of Fort Myers has been accused of hosting ‘COVID-19 parties.’ Nothing could be farther from the truth,” the church said in a statement according to the Christian Post. “First Assembly of God of Fort Myers is following all of the health protections and protocols recommended by the state and local government with regard to holding its church services.

“Let us be clear – media reports and postings accusing the church of ignoring protocols or actively engaging in behavior intended to expose our congregation to the virus are absolutely false and defamatory.”

The teenage girl, Carsyn Leigh Davis, died June 23 from COVID-19– about two weeks after she attended a church function.

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department said in its report: “On June 10, the decedent attended a church function with 100 other children. She did not wear a mask. Social distancing was not followed.”

The church reportedly hosted a “party” on June 10. The church’s social media page advertised the event as a “release party” with a DJ, karaoke and basketball. The Facebook – has since been deleted from the church’s page.

Davis had previously battled cancer. On June 13, the teen complained…

Paycheck Protection Program Fund Saved over 665,000 Ministry Jobs

Paycheck Protection Program Fund Saved over 665,000 Ministry Jobs

A new report released last week showed that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) rescued over 665,000 jobs for churches and ministries across the country.

The PPP was part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed in March in order to help struggling businesses make payroll as the country reels from the effects of COVID-19. According to Christianity Today, it also marked the first time the US government sought financial protection for clergy and ministry workers as part of a stimulus package.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) released the list, which revealed that at least 11,500 Christian organizations received loans of $150,000 or more. Willow Creek Church in Chicago received one of the highest loans of over $5 million that kept 353 jobs while Life.Church in Edmond, Oklahoma received the same amount and preserved 451 jobs.

The program allowed companies with 500 employees or less to request up to two and half months of payroll costs. The average amount churches took were between $150,000 to $300,00 and kept around 60 jobs.

The SBA compiled the list with a keyword search of church, Christian, Catholic, and diocese. More than 7,000 recipients who received $150,000 or more included the word church in their name. For those churches who included denominations in their names, Catholic and Baptist congregations received the most funds. More than 2,000 Catholic…

Tourist rescued after being stranded in the airport for more than 100 days: My questions and God’s good news

On March 20, 2020, in Manila, more than 300 Germans await a Lufthansa flight chartered by the German Embassy in the Philippines because of the Covid 19 pandemic. Photo by: Alejandro Ernesto/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images

Roman Trofimov was traveling from Bangkok on March 20 when he landed at Manila airport in the Philippines. However, he learned that he would be unable to leave the departures area as the Philippines were not issuing visas for arrivals because of coronavirus restrictions.

The airline was also reportedly not allowed to fly him back to Thailand. His embassy reportedly could not arrange a repatriation flight for him. As a result, he spent 110 days in the airport before he was able to fly back to Estonia’s capital Tallinn.

“Thank you to everyone who spread information online, gave me advice and just supported me with a kind word,” he wrote. “Together we did it!”

This story leaves me with more questions than answers. How does a person live in an airport for 110 days? Where did he sleep? What about showers and laundry? What about other travelers? What changed to allow his return home?

Even if the article answered all my questions, however, it would not discuss the issues that are even more relevant: Is Roman Trofimov a follower of Jesus? What is the state of his soul? Where will he spend eternity?

These are questions no news article can report fully. Even if Mr. Trofimov answered them, we could not know the sincerity of his responses. Only God and a person truly know that person’s spiritual condition.

Our greatest and most eternal gift

I have known people over the years who attended worship every Sunday but eventually confided to me that they were not true believers. And I have known people over the years who had not been to a worship service in decades but could describe their salvation experience in detail.

No one in Paul’s Jewish culture would have thought that this Pharisee and student of Gamaliel…

Though this film is produced by a single local church in S.Korea, they would love to collaborate with churches over the nation to represent South Korea truly.

The organizers put South Korea on the title and the thumbnail, but said “it does not mean we represent our country for those who’re wondering”.

Supreme Court rulings are good news for evangelicals: The path to God’s ‘perfect peace’

The Supreme Court issued two rulings yesterday and will make public its remaining opinions later today. Both of Wednesday’s rulings were good news for evangelical Christians.

One upheld a Trump administration regulation that allows employers with religious or moral objections to limit women’s access to birth control coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). By way of background: The ACA required employers to provide contraceptives to employees with no out-of-pocket costs. Churches were exempted, but other employers with religious affiliations were not.

Hobby Lobby successfully appealed to the court in 2014, citing its religious objection to forms of birth control that it considers abortifacients (drugs that cause the fetus to be aborted). Yesterday’s ruling similarly exempted all employers with religious and conscientious objections.

The other Supreme Court ruling declared that federal employment discrimination laws do not apply to teachers whose duties include instruction in religion at church-run schools. At issue was whether Catholic schools in California were free to dismiss two teachers who were not priests or ministers.

Both rulings are good news for evangelicals, whatever our views about particular forms of contraception or engagement in religious instruction, in that they signal the court’s desire to protect religious beliefs from governmental infringement.

Brooks Brothers declares bankruptcy

Despite these positive decisions, this term’s Supreme Court rulings remind us that we cannot place our trust ultimately in secular authorities. Last month, the court ruled against requiring hospital admitting privileges for abortion doctors and extended employment protections to LGBTQ individuals without specifying protections for religious…

Terry Crews under Fire for Criticizing Black Lives Matter Movement

Terry Crews under Fire for Criticizing Black Lives Matter Movement

Well-known actor, TV host and professing Christian Terry Crews has become a polarizing figure amid rising racial tension in the U.S.

Late last month, the 51-year-old America’s Got Talent host was met by widespread backlash on Twitter after he expressed concerns over the Black Lives Matter organization.

On June 30th, Crews cautioned against letting the Black Lives Matter movement transform into the “Black Lives Better” movement.

“If you are a child of God, you are a brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed, and ideology. We must ensure #BlackLivesMatter doesn’t morph into #BlackLivesBetter,” Crews wrote on Twitter.

Over the July 4th weekend, Crews followed up in another tweet noting that he is willing to stand “with good people” regardless of “race, creed, and ideology.”

These comments caused Crews to received backlash on both social media and the mainstream…
