Chip, Joanna Gaines Family Sits Down for an ‘Uncomfortable Conversation’ about Racism with Emmanuel Acho

The entire Chip and Joanna Gaines family joined Emmanuel Acho to discuss racial injustice in his video series, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man. And their powerful conversation aimed at improving the world for future generations is truly inspiring!

Emmanuel Acho is a FOX Sports analyst and former NFL player. And in the Summer of 2020, he began hosting a social media video series, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man.

The idea behind the series is to provide a safe place to have the tough, sometimes uncomfortable conversations about race relations. The types of conversations needed to foster compassion and healing. And with the goal of bringing all of God’s children together in mutual respect and harmony.

“I realized I could stand in the gap and bridge the gap and communicate the message that my black friends have to my white brothers and sisters who can help alleviate our problem in society,” he explained. “I felt called, I felt commissioned to deliver the message.”

Chip And Joanna Gaines Join The Conversation For Unity

Emmanuel’s first video resonated deeply and took off. Next came a conversation with Matthew McConaughey. And after that, Chip and Joanna Gaines joined in with their entire family.

It can be challenging for parents to know just how to address racial turmoil with their kids. And that’s why Chip and…

Man rescues police officer from burning car, explains: “There is value in every human life”

Daylan McLee stands on the porch of his home in Uniontown, PA. (AP Photo)

“There is value in every human life. We are all children of God and I can’t imagine just watching anyone burn. No matter what other people have done to me, or other officers, I thought, ‘This guy deserves to make it home safely to his family.’”

This is how Daylan McLee of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, describes his decision to rescue a police officer from a mangled police car as flames were spreading into the cabin. Police officials have credited McLee with saving the life of Officer Jay Hanley. Uniontown Police Lt. Thomas Kolencik’s voice cracked as he told reporters at the scene, “Daylan actually said, ‘I’m not going to let him die.’ There’s just no words to describe, you know.”

Here’s what made Daylan McLee’s bravery especially unusual: he has been the victim of injustice in the past.

McLee, who is Black, spent a year in jail after an incident in March 2016 before a jury acquitted him of all charges after reviewing security video. That was a year away from his children and his mother, who was ill at the time and passed away last year.

He had another run-in with officers a few months ago, when he ran from a porch gathering after officers in plain clothes and vests approached with guns drawn. He said they did not announce they were officers and that he stopped running and put his hands behind his head when they said they were police. He said he was charged with fleeing and resisting arrest, but added that during the arrest, an officer kicked him in the face through a fence, splitting his lip. He said the use of force was caught on a security camera and that he plans to fight the charges.

After saving Officer Hanley’s life, McLee said he couldn’t blame every police officer for his bad interactions with some: “We need to work on our humanity . . . that’s the main problem of this world.” He added: “I don’t want to be…

The Difference Between Being a Commentator and a Leader

Commentary is popular right now. Some of the biggest names in news are opinionated commentators, not fact-driven beat reporters. With social media, anyone can comment about an issue, regardless of qualifications. Ironically, more data exists now than ever before, yet we still rely heavily on the opinions and comments of others.

Obviously, the popularity of commentary is not in itself a bad thing. You are reading this post, and I hope you keep reading. The ability for the people to produce thoughts en masse does have advantages, most notably that it is no longer possible for a few in power to control narratives.

But commentary is not leadership. Just because a great conversation is occurring does not mean leadership is happening. I fear we might confuse the two. This confusion occurs because we’ve reduced leadership to mere influence. Leadership is not just influence. A marketing campaign is influential, and it may even lead you to purchase a product. But that’s not leadership.

Both commentary and leadership are needed. Sometimes they overlap—a commentator may also be a leader. But here is how they are different.

Commentators have fewer filters. Leaders must act as statesmen. Commentators benefit the public because they can offer unfiltered observations. They can think aloud and speculate. As statesmen, leaders must be careful with words because errant remarks can cause harm. For example, a financial analyst may predict a 20% drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Such…

What is keeping people away?

I have been observing one major reason people won’t rush to return to our churches. It isn’t the virus. I totally understand why someone who is high risk wouldn’t rush to return to in-person services.

For many, however, it’s not the virus keeping them away from services.

It’s habit.

People have fallen into a nice routine of online and in-home worship. Some of our best leaders have told me they enjoy their new morning routine. That might include watching an online service and it might not. It might include going out to breakfast, going to the lake, or sleeping in until noon. They will catch up with us sometime during the week, but not always during the actual service times.

While this is a current reality for many church members, when I talk candidly to my pastor friends, this is frustrating. I understand. I look at numbers too. I feel the weight of filling our building and budgets.

But none of us can escape reality. So, what now?

Here are 5 things I would suggest for pastor friends:

Extend grace to people. Yes they need truth, but these are unusual times. People have to find their rhythm again. And the right challenge for us might be to help them do so, not to burden them with guilt.

Chill out. Don’t panic. That should apply throughout your leadership. An old principle is if the leader panics so will everyone else. Your staff and volunteers are watching you. They get their perspective and hope from you. And both are contagious.

You’ve likely said for years…

Senator Tim Scott Delivers Emotional Rebuttal after His Bill Is Called ‘Token’

Senator Tim Scott Delivers Emotional Rebuttal after His Bill Is Called ‘Token’

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) delivered an emotional response on the floor of the United States Senate last week in response to what many believe were dismissive and hurtful remarks by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL.) Durbin’s comments came during a discussion about a bill Senator Scott proposed which is aimed at curbing violence against minorities by law enforcement.

According to Faithwire, Senator Durbin believed the bill did not go far enough. He said the bill proposed by Senator Scott was a “token, half-hearted approach.” The term token carries weighty baggage in discussions about race, as it is often used to describe minority hires that companies make in order to give the impression that they are committed to diversity. The comments were also considered especially insensitive since they were used by a white Senator to describe a bill proposed by one of only three Black Senators.

Senator Scott stood and first acknowledged that the day was painful for residents of South Carolina because it was the fifth anniversary of the massacre at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Senator Scott took issue not only with the phrase Senator Durbin used, but also with the idea that his legislation was merely a token.

Senator Scott said, “To think that anti-lynching that’s a part of this legislation would be considered a token piece of legislation because perhaps I’m African American and…

Democrats May Boot Official Who Implied Planned Parenthood Targets the Black Community

Democrats May Boot Official Who Implied Planned Parenthood Targets the Black Community

The Democratic auditor of the third-largest county in Ohio could be booted from his own party after posting a tweet alleging that Planned Parenthood targets black communities.

Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes – whose opinions over the years often have diverged from the Democratic platform – referenced a Planned Parenthood in Cincinnati when he wrote on Twitter last Friday, “Just wondering when they are going to paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ on Auburn Avenue, you know, in front of that building where they terminate black lives and white ones, too, almost every day of the week.”

The tweet apparently crossed a line for local Democrats, who are threatening to remove him from the party, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Cincinnati sits in Hamilton County.

Hamilton County Democratic Chairwoman Gwen McFarlin released a statement calling the tweet “sexist and racist.” She also pledged to issue a resolution for the party to support a different Democrat for auditor when he is up for re-election in 2022. The statement also called for his censure. Rhodes was first elected in 1990.

“I condemn this comment which I would…

Trump to Announce If He Supports Israel’s West Bank Annexation Plan

Trump to Announce If He Supports Israel’s West Bank Annexation Plan

President Donald Trump is expected to announce soon whether the White House supports Israel’s plan to annex parts of the West Bank.

According to CBN News, Trump’s Middle East team will meet this week. The team includes Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien and U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu is planning on extending Israel’s borders to include about 30 percent of the West Bank and Jordan Valley. While many see the annexation of the West Bank as a violation of international law, Netanyahu is hoping Trump will support the plan.

Trump’s Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, released in January, approved of the annexation, but some say the White House may be reconsidering after Palestine rejected the deal.

According to media reports, the Trump administration may be discussing a plan that takes a “gradual” approach to annexation of the West Bank.

Netanyahu also rejected parts of the peace plan, including a directive to create a Palestinian state. He says annexation of some territory could start as soon as July 1.

The White House has also said it would like Netanyahu to agree with alternate prime minster Benny Gantz about annexation. Gantz has said annexation should happen but only as directed in Trump’s peace plan and should not include annexing areas with “many Palestinian…

For the 20th Straight Year, Americans Say Abortion is ‘Morally Wrong,’ Gallup Shows

For the 20th Straight Year, Americans Say Abortion is ‘Morally Wrong,’ Gallup Shows

A plurality of Americans say abortion is morally wrong, according to Gallup’s annual Values and Beliefs survey, which also shows a record percentage of Americans saying divorce is morally acceptable.

The poll, conducted May 1-13 and released Tuesday, shows that 47 percent of Americans say abortion is morally wrong and 44 percent say it’s morally acceptable. Although neither percentage is a record, it continues a two-decade trend: The percentage of those who say it’s morally wrong has been higher than the “morally acceptable” position every year since the question was first asked in 2001.

Last year, 50 percent said abortion was morally wrong and 42 percent morally acceptable. When the question was first asked in 2001, 45 percent said it was morally wrong and 42 percent morally permissible.

The poll also shows that on four family-related issues – divorce, sex between unmarried individuals, having a baby outside of marriage, and polygamy – a record-high percentage of Americans say each one is morally permissible.

record-high of 77 percent say divorce is morally permissible and a record-low of 18 percent say it is morally wrong. Four percent say it depends on the situation. When the poll was first conducted in 2001, 59 percent said divorce was OK, 28 percent said it was wrong and 12 percent said it depends.

A record-high (72 percent) also say sex between an…

Atlanta Teen Raises over $160,000 to Help Black-Owned Businesses Destroyed during Riots

Atlanta Teen Raises over $160,000 to Help Black-Owned Businesses Destroyed during Riots

An Atlanta teenager wanted to make a difference in his community, so he raised $160,000 to help Black-owned businesses that were damaged during recent protests.

According to Faithwire, 17-year-old CJ Pearson, President of Last Hope USA, which is dedicated to educating Americans about Civics, used his extensive online influence to raise the money. Pearson told WSB-TV in Atlanta that he wanted “To show that black lives matter by supporting these Black-owned businesses that were adversely impacted by these recent events, and not intentionally so, but let’s go help them out.”

This week Pearson delivered a check for $10,000 to Wilbourn Sisters Designs. She told WSB-TV that she was “excited” and “truly grateful” for the gift, which Pearson raised in conjunction with the Georgia Association of Minority Entrepreneurs.

In a tweet announcing the gifts, Pearson said that, “WE didn’t just SAY black lives matter. WE didn’t just post black screens. WE backed it up.”

Pearson was surprised at the outpouring of support for the project. He told Fox News, “When we first started this effort, I set a goal for $30,000. I expected, you know, to maybe raise that and, you know, be able to help a few businesses. But we blew through that goal in just three hours, raising more than $160,000 in three days.” Pearson also said, “it blew me away to see the response that we…
