BeBe Winans Reveals That He, His Mother, and Brother All Contracted the Coronavirus

BeBe Winans is on the road to recovery after contracting COVID-19. But touching on how contagious the novel coronavirus is, the Gospel singer also revealed that his brother was hospitalized due to the virus, and his mother also was infected.

Winans opened up about his recent diagnosis on SiriusXM’s The Joe Madison Show, detailing that he likely caught the coronavirus while traveling to attend a funeral.

“Sometimes, for some reason, we as a people when we look in and we look at television and various things that’s going on around us, we somehow say, that can’t happen to me for some reason,” he explained. “I don’t know why, but sometimes we believe that, and even myself being cautious, when the outbreak started, I did just a little travel.”

“I was actually in New York and I was like, well, I’m going to Detroit because I had a friend pass and we were having a funeral and just that little travel, I caught it,” Winans added.

Soon after he returned home, Winans began to experience several symptoms associated with COVID-19.

“I just started coughing out of nowhere,” he said, “…and then the fatigue came on, and the chills, and [my] appetite went away.”

Despite having symptoms, Winans called his doctor. It was no use heading to the hospital because he said, “if you’re not in need of a respirator they won’t even take you.”

New Zealand's Shine TV Offers the Hope of Jesus to a Nation Under Strict Lockdown

In New Zealand, strict lockdowns and social distancing appear to be paying off.  In less than two weeks, the island nation is showing signs that their efforts to contain the coronavirus are working. The number of new cases has fallen, despite a huge increase in testing.

There are more than 1,200 cases of coronavirus and only one person has reportedly died from the virus in New Zealand. Still, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is refusing to loosen the restrictions for the Easter holiday weekend and that includes Sunday services.

Michael Brown, the head of Shine TV, New Zealand’s premier Christian television network, says it will be the first time in many people’s memories that they will not be able to attend church on Easter Sunday.

“It’s heartbreaking for churches and for Christians right across the country. Many churches have gone online and there are a number of innovative ways churches are looking to this including churches offering online prayer meetings, online small groups, via popular video chat groups and of course the streaming of church services as well. On Shine TV we’ll be broadcasting Good Friday and Easter Service reflections as well.”

“I think too, it’s just an opportunity that the church is discovering that church was never really about the building but it is about the people,” Brown said.

During one of the on-line zoom prayer meetings hosted by Church Unlimited, one of the participants prayed, “Lord, let your Kingdom expand during this crisis as people reconnect with you and discover you in a fresh and more meaningful way. We pray in Jesus name!”

Brown says Shine TV has birthed a new show during this pandemic called “church at home” – basically, Sunday services recorded from homes across New Zealand.

“And at this time when New Zealanders are not able to leave their homes, they’re not able to meet together or attend their regular church services, to be able to have the message of Hope, of Jesus and the Gospel broadcast into their homes is important now more than ever,” Brown said.

Brown says the “Church at Home” broadcasts also include Live worship music and special services in the language of the country’s indigenous people.

Actor, Filmmaker Tyler Perry Pays for Seniors’ Groceries at 44 Food Stores

Actor, Filmmaker Tyler Perry Pays for Seniors’ Groceries at 44 Food Stores

Nearly 3,000 shoppers taking advantage of “senior hour” at 44 Atlanta Kroger stores were surprised Wednesday morning when actor-filmmaker and local resident Tyler Perry paid for their groceries. He also picked up the tab at 29 Winn-Dixies in New Orleans, where he was raised.

Over the weekend, the entertainment mogul also shelled out $21,000 to bless 42 out-of-work servers at his favorite restaurant, giving each of them $500.

“Senior and higher-risk Kroger shoppers in metro Atlanta did receive a nice surprise at the register this morning when they learned Tyler Perry had paid their grocery tab in full,” Felix Turner, the Atlanta spokesman for Kroger, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We would like to join our customers in thanking Mr. Perry for his kindness and generosity during this unprecedented pandemic. It was truly a pleasure to see our customers fill with joy and gratitude as the news spread throughout 44 stores across metro Atlanta.”

The grocery chain also took to Twitter, sharing a picture of a grateful shopper showing off the receipt.

Grocery stores across the country began implementing early morning senior hours several weeks ago to allow vulnerable shoppers an opportunity to get their groceries without exposure to the wider population during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phil Kloer, a former reporter for the AJC, told the newspaper he was nearly finished shopping at…

COVID-19's Mental Health Impact: Why Going to See a Counselor Just Got a Whole Lot Easier

Before COVID-19 began infecting hundreds of thousands of Americans, millions of people were already coping with mental health concerns – ranging from anxiety to post-traumatic stress. Experts now believe those numbers are rising as people face growing stress from isolation and social restrictions as well as economic loss and fears about death.

Dr. Danny Holland, a licensed professional counselor and assistant professor in the School of Psychology & Counseling at Regent University, says all the changes have had a profound effect on our well being.

“One of the things we know is that predictability and control are anchors that people have in order to feel a sense of wellness and routine in their lives,” he said. “Those things have been dramatically impacted for almost everybody. So there’s a loss of control – that ability to look at their life and know what’s going to happen next.”

It’s tough for those with relatively stable mental health and brutal for those who were already struggling before the crisis hit.

The good news – the government, professional mental health associations and insurance providers have relaxed some of the restrictions around online counseling to boost access.

The Trump administration recently expanded telehealth services for Medicare and that includes providers like psychologists.

Holland has been seeing clients virtually for weeks now and says that while it can be difficult initially for people to get used to it, the benefits outweigh the challenges for most.

“People can actually sit in the environments where they’re having the struggles in and they can work through some of the strong feelings right there and have the counselor come right into the environment with them and assist them,” he said.

In some regions, various entities are making online counseling free to the public right now, and many university students who are displaced from their campuses can access their school counselors virtually.

This sudden shift is providing resources directly to those who are suffering, and many experts believe this new way of counseling may continue, even when COVID-19 is over.

Chick-fil-A Beats Starbucks as Favorite Restaurant among Teens, Survey Shows

Chick-fil-A Beats Starbucks as Favorite Restaurant among Teens, Survey Shows

A new survey challenges the conventional wisdom that Chick-fil-A is only popular among families with young children and the elderly.

As it turns out, Chick-fil-A is popular among the “woke” generation, too.

The survey of 5,200 U.S. teens by Piper Sandler found that Chick-fil-A was their favorite restaurant, easily edging Starbucks and Chipotle.

Chick-fil-A was the favorite restaurant among 22 percent of teens, followed by Starbucks (12 percent), Chipotle (8 percent), McDonald’s (5 percent) and Dunkin Donuts (4 percent).

It’s the fifth straight survey Chick-fil-A has topped the list. Piper Sandler conducts the survey twice a year.

Chick-fil-A’s presence has been controversial among some teens. For example, last year some students at an Oregon high school staged a walkout to protest Chick-fil-A food at high school football games.

The survey, though, shows Chick-fil-A is far from unpopular among the nation’s high schoolers.

The company has led other surveys in recent years.

Last year it dethroned In-N-Out as America’s favorite fast-food chain according to Market Force’s annual “America’s favorite” survey.

Chick-fil-A also led the 2019 American Customer Satisfaction Index, which is another survey of Americans about their favorite restaurants.

The company’s official corporate purpose is “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is…

William and Kate made a video call to children of frontline workers: The best way to measure greatness

One of the most famous couples in the world went online this week to speak with school children whose parents are working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, made a video call to pupils and staff from Casterton Primary Academy in Lancashire, in northwestern England.

The students wore Easter-themed bunny ears and presented them with a virtual bouquet of paper flowers. Their parents are working in the National Health Service and social care, as well as serving in supermarkets and making deliveries.

One of them told the duke that the “first William was called William the Conqueror.” The children then wanted to know, “What do you want to be called in a thousand years’ time?” He laughed and said he didn’t think he could answer that.

It’s an excellent question.

Your title is your towel

On this Maundy Thursday, Jesus redefined greatness when he washed the dirty, smelly, mud-caked feet of men who would soon abandon, deny, and betray him. He then taught us, “I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you” (John 13:15).

And he added a “new commandment”: “Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (v. 34). “Just as” means “in the same way” or “to the same degree.”

Here’s why obedience to his commandment is so crucial: “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (v. 35). Not because we preach sermons or write Daily Articles. Not because we attend church services or work as elders or deacons. Not because we earn and donate large sums of money.

People measure the sincerity of our love for Jesus by the degree to which we wash their…

‘We Do Not Grieve Like Those Who Have No Hope,’ Pence Says of Pandemic during Easter

‘We Do Not Grieve Like Those Who Have No Hope,’ Pence Says of Pandemic during Easter

Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday said the faith of millions of Americans during the Easter season is a source of hope amidst an uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

Pence made the remarks during the daily briefing from President Trump and the Coronavirus Task Force.

“In the wake of more than 1.9 million tests, we see more than 400,000 Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus, and sadly, we’ve lost more than 14,000,” Pence said. “We grieve. But as the Good Book says, we do not grieve like those who have no hope. In this very special week, I know that the faith of millions of Americans is a comfort to them.”

Trump, too, referenced the Easter holiday.

“This is a holy week, when religious believers across the nation will observe Passover, Good Friday and Easter,” Trump said. “Millions of Jewish families begin Passover at sundown tonight, a sacred, unbroken tradition that traces back to the ancient land of Egypt. And on Sunday, we celebrate our beautiful, wonderful Easter, which we all look forward to. And we’re going to have many Easters together in churches in the future.”

America, he said, is “getting much closer” to defeating the virus and “getting our country back to the way it was.”

Trump and Pence spoke to about 10,000 religious leaders Wednesday in an off-the-record conference call “to thank them for raising the…

Wrestler Hulk Hogan Says God Is Using Pandemic to Tear Down Idols, Strengthen Relationships with Christ

Wrestler Hulk Hogan Says God Is Using Pandemic to Tear Down Idols, Strengthen Relationships with Christ

Wrestling star Hulk Hogan says God is using the coronavirus pandemic to tear down the idols people have created in their lives.

According to FaithWire, Hogan, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, is asking people to use their free time to strengthen their relationship with Jesus.

“God has taken away everything we worship,” he wrote on his Instagram page. “God said, ‘you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don’t want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can’t go to church.’”

Hogan’s post included a photo of him praying against a wall.

“Maybe we don’t need a vaccine,” he said. “Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus.”

Hogan also included 2 Chronicles 7:14 in his post, which says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.”

Earlier in the week, Hogan posted another photo of 2 Chronicles…

Tyler Perry pays for groceries for elderly at 73 stores: Anonymous missionaries who have changed your life

Tyler Perry is famous as an actor and producer. Now he is
becoming famous for something else.

He paid for the groceries of all elderly shoppers at forty-four Kroger stores in Atlanta, Georgia, his hometown state. He did the same at twenty-nine Winn Dixie stores in his native New Orleans. “He wanted to do something special to provide immediate relief for some of the most vulnerable in the two cities he calls home,” a source explained.

His donations came after he gave $21,000 in tips for workers
at an Atlanta restaurant while picking up takeout.

The coronavirus pandemic is not the first time Perry has
been gracious to those in need.

Last November, he came to the aid of a couple from Atlanta
who were forced to seek medical treatment in Mexico and then prevented from
leaving because they could not pay their $14,000 medical bill. He paid their
bill and also covered their travel expenses as soon as they were cleared to
leave.

In December 2018, he paid $434,000 to cover all layaways at two Walmarts in Atlanta, helping 1,500 people.

Anonymous missionaries who have changed your life

We join God in redeeming crisis when we respond to its
victims with generosity. Others may not know of our service, but it will bear
significance far beyond itself.

For instance, Acts 11 tells us that “those who were
scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as
Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch” (v. 19). Stephen’s martyrdom led to
persecution in Jerusalem that caused this diaspora through which the gospel was
spread across the Roman Empire.

In addition, “There were some of them, men of Cyprus
and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching
the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who
believed turned to the Lord” (vv. 20–21). These unnamed missionaries
established the church in Antioch that would later become the base for Paul’s
global…
