Bernie Sanders Drops Out of Presidential Race, Pledges to Move ‘Progressive Ideas Forward’ with Biden

Sen. Bernie Sanders suspended his presidential campaign Wednesday, barely a month after he fell from frontrunner status in one of the fastest collapses in the history of the modern primary system.

Sanders was the frontrunner after finishing in a virtual tie in the Iowa caucuses and then winning the New Hampshire primary and the Nevada caucuses. But the Democratic party quickly coalesced around former Vice President Joe Biden, fearful that Sanders’ positions and his label as a “Democratic socialist” would doom the party in November. Biden easily won the South Carolina primary Feb. 29 and then most of the states the following week on Super Tuesday.

“The path toward victory is virtually impossible,” Sanders told supporters in an online video Wednesday. “So while we are winning the ideological battle, and while we are winning the support of so many young people and working people throughout the country, I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful.”

Sanders, an Independent senator from Vermont, called it “a very difficult and painful decision.” The COVID-19 pandemic, he said, underscored his need to drop out.

“I know that there…

Humanitarian Crisis in Kaduna State, Nigeria as Herdsmen Attack Unchecked

Humanitarian Crisis in Kaduna State, Nigeria as Herdsmen Attack Unchecked

JOS, Nigeria, April 8, 2020 (Morning Star News) – People displaced by Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacks in Kaduna state, Nigeria that killed 60 Christians in March are in dire need of relief aid, a community leader said.

“We have a chronicle of the humongous losses suffered by these law-abiding Christians in the hands of herdsmen trying to forcefully eject them and occupy their lands while the government watches on,” Luka Binniyat, spokesman for the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), said in a statement. “These wanton cruelties on these native Christian communities have been ongoing without let-up since Jan. 6 with great casualties in human lives and material loses.”

Binniyat said the attacks have forced women, children and the elderly to run into the wilderness to escape rampaging herdsmen, adding to the thousands displaced by previous violence.

“Kugosi and Kajari communities have been deserted, with scores of Christian villagers wandering in the bush with no food or water,” he said. “We therefore, call on all well-meaning individuals, groups and corporate entities to come to the aid of these displaced persons. They are in dire need of food, medical attention and temporary shelter.”

Binniyat said the killings occurred in Chikun and Jema’a counties.

At least 25 Christians were killed in March 31 herdsmen attacks on three communities, while 11 others were killed…

COVID-19's Mental Health Impact: Why Going to See a Counselor Just Got a Whole Lot Easier

Before COVID-19 began infecting hundreds of thousands of Americans, millions of people were already coping with mental health concerns – ranging from anxiety to post-traumatic stress. Experts now believe those numbers are rising as people face growing stress from isolation and social restrictions as well as economic loss and fears about death.

Dr. Danny Holland, a licensed professional counselor and assistant professor in the School of Psychology & Counseling at Regent University, says all the changes have had a profound effect on our well being.

“One of the things we know is that predictability and control are anchors that people have in order to feel a sense of wellness and routine in their lives,” he said. “Those things have been dramatically impacted for almost everybody. So there’s a loss of control – that ability to look at their life and know what’s going to happen next.”

It’s tough for those with relatively stable mental health and brutal for those who were already struggling before the crisis hit.

The good news – the government, professional mental health associations and insurance providers have relaxed some of the restrictions around online counseling to boost access.

The Trump administration recently expanded telehealth services for Medicare and that includes providers like psychologists.

Holland has been seeing clients virtually for weeks now and says that while it can be difficult initially for people to get used to it, the benefits outweigh the challenges for most.

“People can actually sit in the environments where they’re having the struggles in and they can work through some of the strong feelings right there and have the counselor come right into the environment with them and assist them,” he said.

In some regions, various entities are making online counseling free to the public right now, and many university students who are displaced from their campuses can access their school counselors virtually.

This sudden shift is providing resources directly to those who are suffering, and many experts believe this new way of counseling may continue, even when COVID-19 is over.

Oklahoma Church Helps Feed over 50,000 Families in Need

Oklahoma Church Helps Feed over 50,000 Families in Need

A church in Oklahoma has helped to feed over 50,000 families who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to CBN News, Victory Church in Tulsa partnered with small businesses in the area to feed the families.

“Thousands fed, hundreds saved, THIS IS A MOVE!!!” Victory Church Pastor Paul Daugherty wrote on Twitter. God is turning what the enemy meant for evil into something good in Tulsa- so many praise reports coming in! HUGE SHOUT OUT to the DREAM TEAM that’s been rotating in serving our city during this time.

“Thank u to everyone who’s donated to help these meals and groceries happen!”

Daugherty said many of the small businesses the church is working with sacrificed their salary to pay for the groceries.

“And 53,000 hot meals and groceries to people who are laid off from work or reduced in their hours,” Daugherty explained. “They’re saying ‘if you guys weren’t open, we don’t know where we would go right now.’”

Victory Church is offering drive-in church services on the weekends with Daugherty preaching from the church’s rooftop.

“The mission of our church and every church is: love God, love people, and desperate times call for desperate measures,” he said. “We started doing our drive-in services and started seeing so many unchurched people come on our parking lot in desperation and they are getting help and they’re getting hope.”

The church was able to receive…

Four Theories that Try to Explain Away Christ's Resurrection – and Why They Don't Add Up

Atheists and doubters of Christianity want the world to believe Jesus did not rise from the dead. Thanks to historians from Jesus’ era, we have documentation of the crucifixion, how Christ’s body mysteriously disappeared and the Resurrection. This is important because Christianity’s power all hinges on the fact of the Resurrection. And that’s why detractors for centuries have been coming up with scenarios to explain away the reality of the Resurrection.

“Wrong Tomb” Theory

One is the Wrong Tomb Theory. Everyone just went to the wrong one – an empty one – and assumed Christ had resurrected.

Indiana doctor Joseph Bergeron studied the crucifixion of Christ and its aftermath for 10 years, writing about it in The Crucifixion of Jesus: A Medical Doctor Examines the Death and Resurrection of Christ.

“Going to a wrong tomb and finding it empty doesn’t present to anybody’s mind that the person resurrected from the dead,” Bergeron told CBN News. “Nobody thinks that an empty tomb means somebody’s resurrected from the dead. That’s a nonsensical notion.”

One’s first thought would more likely be that someone took the body, Bergeron suggested, saying, “Mary Magdalene, when she found the empty tomb, she ran to Peter and said, ‘They’ve stolen His body; I don’t know where they’ve taken it.'”

Alex McFarland, another top defender of the Christian faith at events like Bible camps and apologetics conferences, pointed out another well-known fact.

“Pilate had dispatched a cadre of Roman soldiers to guard the tomb,” he stated. “Clearly they knew which tomb it was.”

“Everybody knew where the tomb was. It belonged to Joseph of Arimathea; a wealthy man; it was new,” Bergeron explained, saying of the authorities and the tomb, “They placed soldiers there, after all, to make sure that nobody took the body. So everybody knew where it was.”

McFarland believes much more had to have happened to the disciples other than just finding an empty tomb to explain their sudden fierce belief in a resurrected Christ – a belief so sure they would all but one face a martyr’s death for it.

As McFarland put it, “Suddenly they begin to preach Christ is alive, and they’re willing to die for their faith. It just doesn’t add up that they mistakenly went to the wrong tomb.”

Swoon Theory

There’s also the Swoon Theory that wants you to believe instead of dying on the cross, Jesus only passed out, woke up in the tomb a couple of days later, rolled away the huge stone and escaped.

McFarland branded that, “Impossible.”

First of all, people just did not survive crucifixion. McFarland referenced the historian Flavius Josephus, alive just after Christ’s time on earth, saying, “Josephus documents that there were no survivors of Roman crucifixion. In all of the decades of Roman crucifixion, there was one person who ever came down from the cross alive, says Josephus, and this person died within 24 hours.”

Quite a few people, both friends and foes, saw Jesus’ body come down from the cross and they would definitely know this wasn’t just an unconscious man.

High Stupidity Quotient

McFarland said of Jesus’ friends, “All of these theories attribute an exceptionally high stupidity quotient to the disciples. The disciples didn’t have cars and the internet, but they weren’t ignorant. They knew a dead body from a person that was alive.”

And as for Jesus’ foes, Bergeron pointed out, “For a Roman execution team to allow a convicted felon to escape execution would mean they would be executed. And so they had a vested interest in making sure the job was done.”

So, the doctor added, “They plunged a spear into His chest. Because to allow any possibility that He would survive the crucifixion would mean that they would die themselves.”

But if for some unfathomable reason, Jesus had survived and everyone somehow missed it, McFarland laid out what this severely wounded Jesus faced: “Christ has been at least two to three days without food or water. Dehydrated. He was beaten severely. Huge loss of blood. Nailed to the cross.”

Couldn’t Have Survived the Crucifixion, the Spearing, or the Shock

Dr. Bergeron said of a man in such a condition, “The extent of tissue injury and shock, the biblical descriptions really point to traumatic hemorrhagic shock that would be untreatable in Jesus’ time.”

Then there’s the fact of what would have been put on Jesus’ severely-tortured body to preserve it before it was placed in the tomb.

McFarland stated, “There would have been these tightly-wound strips of cloth and 70 to 90 pounds of spices. And so in a way, He would have been so constricted and wrapped up, even if He had been alive — which He wasn’t — it would have been physically impossible for a man that severely wounded to have gotten out of the burial clothes, much less moved a sealed, multi-ton stone.”

This Theory Makes the Lord a Liar

So after all that, McFarland explained the Swoon Theorists present this unlikely scenario: “He was laid in the tomb, He revived Himself, He moves a two-and-a-half to three-ton stone and He overcomes a dozen Roman soldiers in peak physical condition. Incognito, He gets across town, re-gathers His scattered disciples, and He says ‘I am the Resurrection and the Life.'”

And that presents McFarland’s biggest problem with the Swoon Theory: what it would say of Jesus’ morals if He’d so blatantly lie.

Because the Swoon Theorists would have you believe of Christ, “He told His disciples He’d risen, and He allowed them to go forth and preach what was false, and die for what really wasn’t true. This compromises the moral, righteous nature of the person Jesus.”

“Stolen Body” Theory

The Stolen Body Theory proposes that the very disciples who fled in terror after the crucifixion then risked death to steal Christ’s body from the tomb and made up the whole Resurrection story.

First off, McFarland pointed out these scared, cowering men in such a scenario would be taking on the toughest most feared soldiers of the ancient world.

He said, “Their master has been arrested; their messianic hopes are dashed. Yet they sufficiently re-gather and summon up enough bravery to overcome Roman soldiers? I mean, this could have been at best arrest if not execution and death.”

The theory has it that the disciples beat or bribed the soldiers or sneaked passed their sleeping bodies. Bergeron and McFarland both highly doubt this band of disciples could have ever fought and bested or bribed or sneaked passed the dozen of more Roman soldiers assigned to guard the tomb.

“History tells us that if a Roman soldier failed at an assignment, they would be executed,” McFarland stated. “I doubt any of these disciples, this little band of insurrectionists could have bought off a Roman soldier, overcome physically a Roman soldier. I don’t think they would have been asleep.”

Bergeron added, “Roman military discipline was austere. If you were caught nodding off when you were on watch, you would be beaten to death.”

Would They All Have Lied & Died for a Hoax?

McFarland concluded, “I mean, there’s simply no way that the disciples, had they wanted to steal the body, that they could have gotten passed that barrier alone to the tomb.”

McFarland continued with what the Stolen Body Theory proposes the disciples then did after getting passed the soldiers: “They move the stone, they take away the body of Jesus and they say ‘He’s risen.'”

But for them to claim that would have been in direct opposition to Jesus’ life and teaching.

“Everything He’s all about is predicated on righteousness, virtue, truth, holiness,” McFarland pointed out. “Here is Truth personified, and they built a Gospel on a lie? Just doesn’t make sense.”

All but one of those disciples was put to death for this Gospel. And not one of them ever recanted.

Bergeron stated, “People sometimes will die for some misguided belief that they have. Nobody dies for a hoax.”

Hallucination Theory

One popular idea is that everyone who saw Jesus alive after His death was just hallucinating.

But Dr. Bergeron pointed out, in the rare documented cases of group hallucinations, they all see different things.

Because it’s all in their mind.

“People who hallucinate are very sick. They have either a physiological problem with their brain: maybe a tumor, something like that. A biochemical problem with their brain.”

Christ’s followers don’t appear to have suffered from any such debilitating conditions.

“The disciples were intelligent and organized,” Bergeron contended, pointing out how swiftly their movement expanded: “Christianity spread rapidly through the Roman empire. By AD 64, there were enough Christians that Nero launched mass persecution against Christians.”

Appeared Before Hundreds

McFarland spoke of how the risen Christ appeared several times and interacted with hundreds of people, as recorded by Saint Paul in 1st Corinthians 15.

“Paul says He was seen by up to 500 brethren at once,” McFarland said.

Of that and several other documented appearances of Christ, Bergeron remarked, “Hallucination hypotheses can never explain the group appearances, the group experiences the disciples had with Jesus.”

McFarland continued dismantling the theory, saying, “Hallucinations are not contagious, hallucinations generally don’t appear in different places to different groups of people. You generally can’t talk and converse with a hallucination. And you certainly can’t eat with a hallucination.”

But the risen Christ appeared before several groups in several places, conversed with people and ate with them.

Maybe it’s just that His followers wanted to see Jesus again so badly? Well, He also appeared to the major persecutor of Christians on the road to Damascus.

“What about Saul of Tarsus who was persecuting the church?” McFarland asked of the man who would become Saint Paul. “Certainly he wasn’t hoping to see a risen Jesus.”

Christ Said He’d Do It – Why Not Believe He Did?

So why not just believe in what the Son of God promised He’d do – Resurrection?

McFarland explained, “Christ Himself said that there’s no way to the Father but through Him. In John 8:24, He said ‘If you do not believe that I am He, you’ll die in your sins.”

And then He said the way we’d know He was speaking the truth and that He is indeed the Son of God, is He would resurrect.

As McFarland put it, “His identity, message, credentials were validated by the fact that He did what none of us could do under our own power: He rose from the dead.”

Bergeron pointed out when you examine the alternative theories and see how easy it is to poke holes in them, “The biblical explanation becomes the best.”

After his 10 years of research on these topics, Bergeron told CBN News, “I’m more convinced that what we believe as Christians is true and accurate as I ever have been.”

Like so many others across the millennia, these gentlemen contend the best explanation for why Jesus wasn’t in that tomb Easter morning is what Christ’s disciples have always said: He came alive and rose from it.

No Gym? No Problem! Get a Workout at Home With Jake Steinfeld of 'Body By Jake'

The COVID-19 pandemic may have closed health clubs and gyms, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get in a good workout.

“Body By Jake” star Jake Steinfeld joined Pat Robertson on today’s 700 Club program with tips for staying in shape while confined to home.

How do we do it? “The most important thing is faith,” Jake said. “but also people have a lot of anxiety, a lot of stress.”

Jake says you don’t need anything fancy, just use things you have around the house.

“You don’t need weights. If you have a broomstick, a towel, a chair, two cans of Mama’s tomato paste, you can get in a nice workout. And most importantly, it’s a simple thing – breathing, relaxing, getting the body moving,” he said.

Jake says in these times of COVID-19 if you’re alone in your home, apartment, or condo, it really doesn’t have to be a lot of exercise to give you benefit. Just get the body moving, he says.

To see Pat Robertson’s interview with Jake Steinfeld on Wednesday’s The 700 Club, click on the box above.

“A couple of minutes,” Jake told Pat. “You know, when we get back to normal if you get 15, 20, 30 minutes of exercise, that’s awesome. But right now, what we’re doing at Official Body By Jake is a simple one, one-and-a-half minute little movements, little exercises, to get your body moving. To get you feeling good. So you get away from the feeling of discouragement, the feeling of ‘I can’t.’ We’re going to change that ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can.'”

Georgia Man Says God Healed Him of COVID-19 after 11 Days in the Hospital

Georgia Man Says God Healed Him of COVID-19 after 11 Days in the Hospital

A Georgia man says that God healed him after he was hospitalized with COVID-19. He recently came home from eleven days in the hospital after an experience where “the Lord was blowing breath” into his lungs.

Clay Bentley believes he contracted the coronavirus at his church in Cartersville. Bentley said, “On March 1st, I was singing in the choir. That’s where I got it. That’s where I contracted it at church. There were at least 45 to 50 people in that church in that one meeting that caught the coronavirus, and two died.”

One of the church members who died, Elizabeth Wells, was standing close to Bentley in the choir. He told Fox5, “I’ve been grieving over her,” said Bentley. “I think she was standing next to me. We had choir practice on Wednesday night and she was standing next to me. Breaks my heart to know that other people in the church are sick and I can’t do anything. I stayed up nights just praying for them. I’m still praying for the ones who are still in the hospital. I’m just praying they get the same relief I got.”

Bentley started experienced symptoms within hours of getting home from church. After experiencing shortness of breath, he went to a local urgent care and then later to the emergency room. He told CBN News that the doctors in the emergency room diagnosed him with walking pneumonia and sent him home with an antibiotic.

Bentley’s condition…

‘Boxes of Hope’ becomes national movement: A building is not a church

Stock photo

“Our vision is to see HOPE spread faster than COVID-19.” This is how a pastor in New Jersey explains “Boxes of Hope,” a national movement to help those suffering from the coronavirus pandemic.

It began when a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains tested positive for coronavirus. Pastor Chris Morante explains his church’s response: “We’ve always been committed to reaching our neighbors. We always say our mission field is across the street and around the world, so we began to mobilize our efforts as soon as we saw this crisis beginning.”

Seeing the hopelessness his church member felt, he adds, “We wanted to do something tangible to show God’s love, so we just delivered some groceries in a box to their front door.”

When the church saw the hope their gift brought one family, they started doing the same en masse, shipping out six hundred boxes in the New Jersey area. They are partnering with Convoy of Hope and World Help, two disaster relief organizations.

Now their local ministry has become a national movement. Pastor Morante: “For you to know that you’re not forgotten, there’s a God that sees you and loves you and there’s someone in a church that cares about you. It really means the world to people.”

Bible sales increase 62 percent

Operators of New York State’s power grid have been camped out since March 23 in parking lots adjacent to plants and control rooms that must be staffed 24/7 to keep the state’s lights on. They work in specialized, confined spaces. If one of them became sick with coronavirus, they could quickly infect others, resulting in a personnel shortage that could disrupt operations. As a result, they are living in trailers apart from their families during this crisis.

The buildings they are powering include hospitals and homes, structures vital to life in these days of pandemic crisis and…

Holy Week Sermon Series: Easter and the Plague: Nothing Has Changed About the Easter Story — Just Your Story Parts 3 & 4 by Daniel Whyte III

TEXT: Mark 11:15-19.

15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.

You can’t pray because you don’t know the one to whom you should pray. My friend, that is the reason why Jesus Christ came. That is the reason why he entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday letting the world know that he himself was the sacrificial Lamb of God. Five days later, as Jesus Christ hung on the cross, the punishment for all the sins ever committed by all of the people who ever lived was poured out on Him.

Now, all you have to do is accept Jesus’s free gift of salvation if you want to be delivered from your sin and the eternal punishment of sin. Allow me to share with you from God’s Word how you can accept the free gift of salvation that Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead to give to you.

John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

“For God so loved the world” means that if you are in the world, God loves you. No matter who you are, where you are, or what you have done, God loves you.

God loves you more than you love yourself. He loves you so much so “that He gave His only begotten Son.” His only begotten son is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and for mine, He was buried, and on the third day, He rose from the dead.

“that whosoever believeth in Him”, whosoever means anybody of any race, any color, or any socio-economic status can believe on Jesus Christ.

“should not perish, but have everlasting life.” if you believe on Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you will not perish in hell, instead you will have everlasting life in heaven with God.

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! TEXT: Matthew 24:36-44

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
