(Photo: Reuters/Jose Cabezas)The currently untreatable Zika virus, which causes babies to be born with underdeveloped brains, is likely to spread all across the American continents, the World Health Organization has warned.
BBC News reported that the infection has spread through 2Christian Post Report – 1 countries in the Caribbean, North and South America, and has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains.
The virus is native to Africa, but is believed to have spread in Brazil sometime in May 20Christian Post Report – 15. It is transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes, which are found in all countries in the region, except for Chile and Canada.
As a precaution measure, El Salvador urged women last week to avoid getting pregnant until 20Christian Post Report – 18, or risk their children being born with birth defects.
“We’d like to suggest to all the women of fertile age that they take steps to plan their pregnancies, and avoid getting pregnant between this year and next,” said Deputy Health Minister Eduardo Espinoza.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains on its website that about one in five people affected with Zika will become ill, with symptoms including fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes).
It adds that there are currently no vaccines or medications available to prevent or treat the virus.
While deaths due to the disease are rare, BBC pointed out that there have been 3,500 reported cases of microcephaly, babies born with small brains, in Brazil since October 20Christian Post Report – 15 alone.
Professor Laura Rodrigues, a fellow of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said that the medical community needs to adapt fast to the new challenge.
“Until November we knew nothing, this has caught us by surprise and we’re trying to learn as fast as we can,” Rodrigues said.
“Wherever there is dengue, there is mosquito, then it will spread and not just in Americas I think there is a very real chance it will spread in Asia.”
The CDC added that the Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which bite all day long, are found in the U.S. and can transmit Zika along with other diseases, such as the dengue fever and chikungunya.
Public Health England reported over the weekend that at least three British travelers are known to have been infected with the virus so far, associated with travel to Colombia, Suriname and Guyana.
Still, the government agency pointed out that Zika “does not occur naturally in the U.K.”
CNN noted that there are concerns with the upcoming 20Christian Post Report – 16 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, though Games spokesman Phil Wilkinson said venues will be inspected daily for mosquitoes.
Wilkinson also pointed out that the Rio games will take place in the months of August and September, which is winter time in Brazil. The cooler and drier climate is expected to significantly reduce the presence of the mosquitoes.

Christian Post Report – Willie Robertson and Korie Robertson with their children arrive at the 27th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California, March 29, 2014.
Sadie Robertson is doing more than just capitalizing off of her celebrity, she is making sure that the products she sells can also change lives.
The 18-year-old “Duck Dynasty” star who also made a name for herself on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” in 2014, has a number of business ventures under her belt. Aside from becoming the face of the Wild Blue Denim brand and collaborating with faith-based technology company, BelieveTek, Robertson also teamed up with Roma Boots to create a line that would combat poverty.
The television star joined the rain boot company for a “boot drop” last month where she traveled to Guatemala and helped deliver hundreds of boots to children who needed them.
“The latest ‘boot drop’ with Sadie [last month] is a grand step in [Roma Boots’] ongoing effort to be sure kids never go without shoes,” the company said in a statement to The Christian Post. “Millions of children throughout the world weather all kinds of conditions barefoot, but Samuel Bistrian, [the creator of Roma Boots,] wants to put an end to the dark side of poverty by bringing on smiles and security with Roma Boots.”
(Photo: Instagram/@legitsadierob)“Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson is launching her very own rain boot line with rain boot company Roma, in a bid to help combat child poverty.Bistrian has already delivered boots to more than 25 countries and gives one pair of boots to children in need for every purchase made. For Robertson, helping others in the form of missions trips is not a stretch.
Last year, she spoke to The Christian Post about the importance of mission trips, such as the ones she’s ventured on to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
“For me, going on a mission trip is what truly changed my life because it gave me a different view of the world, my life, how good I have it and how faithful I should be. I think it’s important for people to go out and see how bad others have it, how good you have it and the ways you can help them,” Robertson told CP. “I think it’s really important to help and to give back so you can view people as your neighbor and love them as your neighbor. I think glorifying God is something that people think they can only do during good times in their life whenever they’re receiving all of these blessings, but that’s not really the case.”
Experiencing the living conditions of people who are less fortunate reminds Robertson that God can get the glory no matter the circumstances.
“I feel like you should be able to glorify God no matter what situation you are in in life,” she said. “No matter if you are really going through hard times or going through the best times in life, God never gives up on us.”
Although Robertson’s fame has allowed her to appear on television and author a New York Times best-selling book, Live Original: How the Duck Commander Teen Keeps It Real and Stays True to Her Values, she insists that her life is not about her.
“I think the key to that is recognizing that it’s not all about me, it’s truly not. God gave me this and this is all about God,” Robertson told CP. “I think if I would have came into this saying ‘all of these followers are for me and these fans are for me,’ then it would’ve been really difficult. I think I would’ve gotten lost in it all. But coming into it with the mindset of all these followers are for God, all of this fame is for God, it’s not about making me famous.”

Christian Post Report – Hyeon Soo Lim, a Canadian megachurch pastor originally from South Korea, gives an interview with CNN in January 2016, while serving a life sentence in North Korea that includes regular hard labor.
Over 125,000 people have already signed an online petition calling for the release of a Canadian pastor imprisoned by North Korea’s Communist government.
The Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim, a 60-year-old Canadian pastor who was born in South Korea, was arrested and given a life sentence of hard labor by North Korea last month.
A petition posted to the advocacy website change.org calls on Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, and Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephane Dion to work to free Rev. Lim.
(Photo: Reuters/Hyungwon Kang)Participants pray for Canadian Pastor Hyeon Soo Lim who is being held in North Korea during a joint multi-cultural prayer meeting at Light Korean Presbyterian Church in Toronto, December 20, 2015. Canadian diplomats were allowed to meet detained pastor Lim on Friday, after he was sentenced to life in prison in North Korea earlier last week, and found him in good spirits and health, a church spokeswoman said on Sunday.
“The Canadian government and the United Nations need to take strong, affirmative action NOW. If there is political will, Pastor Lim can be rescued,” reads the petition in part.
“Few of us have the courage and dedication to jeopardize our life and liberty for the sake of those in need. But all of us can help #freepastorlim #bringlimhome. Please sign and share!”
Pastor of the 3,000-member Light Presbyterian Church located in the Toronto area, Lim went to North Korea in January of 2015 as part of a mission trip.
By February of last year, Lim’s family and friends had fallen out of contact with him and later it was revealed that the pastor was arrested by North Korean officials.
The government-controlled KCNA media station said Lim was guilty of “[committing] anti-DPRK religious activities, [conducting] false propaganda among overseas Koreans, and [taking] active part in the operation of the U.S. and (a South Korean) conservative group to lure and abduct DPRK citizens […] in their programs for ‘aiding defectors from the North.'”
In December, about 1,000 people held a prayer vigil for the imprisoned pastor at Light Presbyterian Church, with Canadian officials working to get his release.
Earlier this month Will Ripley of CNN got to interview Lim in North Korea, with the pastor saying that he was receiving regular meals and medical treatment as part of his time in prison.
“Lim has been held in a labor camp. He appears to be the only inmate. He has not seen any other prisoners. Lim works eight hours a day, six days a week, with rest breaks, digging holes for the planting of apple trees in the prison orchard,” reported CNN.
“There are always two guards watching over him. He is serving a life sentence of hard labor. He has no contact with the outside world.”
The petition was created by Ji-Soo An of the University of Alberta Law School and Hyun-Soo Lim of Yale Law School. In addition to English, the petition is also available in French, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.

Christian Post Report – Aug 22, 2015; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow (11) throws during warm ups before a game against the Baltimore Ravens at Lincoln Financial Field.
Tim Tebow rose to fame as a college football star, but he is not shying away from warning others about turning high profile athletes and sports into idols.
“We choose to idolize certain things, and love certain things,” Tebow said while speaking at a benefit for the Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama. “I’m not saying it’s wrong to love sports, I love them as much as anybody. But do we choose to really see what matters?”
As a speaker at the Montgomery, Alabama, benefit called “The Journey Continues” Tebow invited three “wish girls” battling cancer to join him. Instead of focusing on celebrities, the athlete-turned-college football analyst spoke about how “messed up” it was that people were not honoring those trying to overcome cancer.
“All these men and women that are celebrities, they’re awesome, they’re good friends of mine. They do a lot,” Tebow said, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. “And everyone was idolizing these men and women, and nobody was paying attention to these three girls. I think all of them would agree, these three girls have more character, heart and determination to fight through what they had fought through than any one of those celebrities.”
The athlete said he was struck with the revelation: “This is what matters. This is what we should be focusing on.'”
Lucile G. Waller, the executive director for the Cancer Wellness Foundation, previously explained why Tebow was a great choice to speak at the recent benefit that took place at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center.
“On and off the field, he exemplifies Judeo Christian values of which most people in this country identify,” Waller said. “When one is faced with a life or death situation, as many of the patients which we help are, one relies on your faith in God.”
Tebow led the University of Florida Gators to a national championship as the team’s starting quarterback in 2008, after winning the Heisman Trophy on the team in 2007. He was also on the team when it won a championship in 2006 and was the first college sophomore to win a Heisman Trophy, which honors the best football player of a season.
The Christian athlete has struggled to find his place in the NFL after being drafted to the Denver Broncos in 2010, signing with the New York Jets in 2012, and getting picked up by the New England Patriots in 2013, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, which cut him from the roster as a third-string quarterback.
“In the end, football is just a silly game. Greatness comes from serving,” Tebow told a crowd of students at a Liberty University convocation in 2013. “You want to be great? Be a servant. You want to be great? Humble yourself.”

Christian Post Report – Actor Bill Cosby attends the American Comedy Awards in New York April 26, 2014.
Despite dozens of sexual misconduct allegations brought against comedian Bill Cosby, singer R.Kelly says he will not believe those accusations unless God tells him to.
In an interview with GQ magazine, the 49-year-old singer-songwriter and producer Robert Kelly, said he believed it was strange that older women were bringing up accusations against Cosby decades after it happened.
As a fan of the comedian, Kelly said only God could convince him that Cosby was guilty.
“If God showed me that they were telling the truth, I would say that’s wrong. I don’t care if it was a zillion years ago,” Kelly told GQ. “But God would have to do that, because God is the only one can show me that. When you wait 70 years, 50 years, 40 years, to say something that simple, it’s strange. You know why I say that is because it happened to me, and it wasn’t true.”
Kelly was once accused of making child pornography before being acquitted in 2008 of the 14 counts brought against him. Now Cosby is facing a legal battle after more than four dozen women accused the 78-year-old comedian of either drugging them, committing sexual assault, or both. Cosby became a popular celebrity for his role in the 1980s and 1990s family sitcom “The Cosby Show,” as well decades worth of stand up comedy routines and community service.
The recent accusations brought against the comedian may have mired Cosby’s image for some, but the comedian is still pressing forth with his comedy tour across North America. Last year, Cosby wrote a letter to his supporters in the community who purchased tickets in order to watch him perform.
“Dear Fans: GOD has blessed me with a wonderful gift to share with all of my fans. For 53 years I have continued to master this gift, which heals the soul and warms hearts, Laughter!” Cosby wrote in a message posted in the Sandusky Register. “I thank you, the theatre staff (Sandusky State Theater), the event organizers and the Sandusky Community for your continued support and coming to experience family, fun entertainment. Let’s Do It Again — I’m Far From Finished.”
In a 2011 interview with The Christian Post, Cosby spoke about keeping his faith during tough times. “If you have no faith, you’ve lost your battle. You can’t let things just happen. If you know right from wrong, and you know proof that certain things are true and people are telling you information to guide you and it’s good solid information, then you should have it.”

Bethke references Psalm 37: 5-6, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act,” and shares the words of the late British Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon who once encouraged the faithful to go beyond simply giving Christ only their present cares.
“‘Roll the whole burden of life upon the Lord,” says Spurgeon. “Leave with Jehovah not thy present fretfulness merely, but all thy cares; in fact, submit the whole tenor of thy way to Him. Cast away anxiety, resign thy will, submit thy judgment, leave all with the God of all,'” says the preacher, who uses the example of how the farmer sows his seeds, ploughs and leaves the harvest up to God.
Bethke encourages believers that no matter what they’re going through — from being unemployed or desiring a relationship, to experiencing marital issues or simply trying to make it day to day — they can hand it over to Christ and wait on Him for the solution.
“Wherever your heart is today, we can commit our way to Him,” writes Bethke. “We can leave our worries, doubts, desires and dreams at His feet — and wait for Him to act. We aren’t in control. He is.”
God’s ways are much higher than man’s. He wants His people to be happy and His plans for His children never fail, explains Bethke.
Bethke says that during difficult periods in her life, she relies heavily upon the book of Psalms for inspiration. “The Psalms are such an untapped and beautiful book that has gotten me through so many tough times. It’s a book of songs, laments, prayers, and cries. And it can be deeply healing to use them in those seasons.”
The wife and mother can’t overstate the importance of Scripture in the life of a believer. On her personal blog she writes, “God’s Word is His love letter to us. It’s beautiful, deep, scandalous, alive, wise and life changing. It’s radical — it flips our natural thinking on its head and radiates what is true and right and holy. It is a story of how the Creator of the universe, the Maker of all things, the God of all gods, the King of all kings — wants us.”

Christian Post Report – Oil-soaked wall that Catholic family in British Colombia believes is the Virgin Mary’s tears, as featured in a CTV News Vancouver report published on January 23, 2016.
A Roman Catholic family in British Colombia believe the tears of the Virgin Mary are soaking one of their apartment walls in an alleged miracle, which has reportedly drawn over 300 worshipers to come to the apartment and pray.
CTV News Vancouver reported on Saturday that hundreds of people from across Canada are coming to the oil-soaked apartment wall in Surrey, where devout Catholic Sanna Lona claims she experienced a miracle.
Lona said three weeks ago she was alone in her bedroom when she felt someone touch her shoulder, after which she saw the Virgin Mary, who told her to look at the wall.
The Catholic woman claimed that a streak of oil formed on the wall, but eventually it spread across the room, reaching the carpet and the mirror.
(Photo: Reuters/Damir Sagolj)Catholics gather at the site where the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared in an apparition in Medjugorje, 120km (75 miles) south of Sarajevo, June 25, 2009. Millions of pilgrims from all over the world have visited the small Bosnian town after six Bosnian youngsters claimed that the Holy Mary appeared to them there 28 years ago.Lona’s son, Salwan Alyais, claims that Mary also gave his mother instructions about the oil, which the family believes is the tears of the mother of Christ.
“Mary said don’t let anyone touch the wall because they’re touching her face, and she doesn’t want people to touch her face,” Alyais said.
The bedroom, which is now filled with images of Mary, is being kept open for people who want to come and pray.
“[My mother] feels okay and happy, and she says the Mary mother told her the people come, the door is open, she don’t close, they will visit here and pray,” Lona’s daughter added.
There were several alleged Virgin Mary miracles reported around the world last year. In October, a church in Malaysia asked the Vatican to officially declare a miracle in the form of a statue of Mary that parishioners said has been documented at various times growing taller, smiling, and crying.
The alleged miracle was captured on video during service, with one parishioner describing: “Her eyes were moving very slowly, all of us were there and we saw it.”
“The father (the priest) was saying, ‘look at her, she’s looking at us. She was full of life, she had a lot of tears in her eyes,'” he continued.
“When we started singing ‘Ave Maria,’ she started smiling and her lips were moving.”
Another miracle was reported in September in Sicily, Italy, after a Catholic priest led church members to drink from a “secret” water spring that he believed Mary led him to.
“She doesn’t speak to me or for me — but she speaks through me to everybody, inviting them to pray, confess and return to God,” Father Alessandro Minutella from the parish of San Giovanni Bosco in Carini said at the time.

Al-Azhar University Professor Suad Saleh says rape is allowed in Islam during times of ‘legitimate war’ between Muslims and their enemies.
Muslim men are allowed by Allah to rape non-Muslim or infidel women to “humiliate” them, according to a female Islamic scholar from the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.
In a recent interview on Cairo television Professor Suad Saleh said rape is allowed in Islam during times of “legitimate war” between Muslims and their enemies, the Daily Express reported on Monday.
The controversial Islamic scholar claimed that Allah has given Muslim men a “legitimate” way to have sexual relations with slave women.
Saleh also alleged that slavery already existed even before Islam and that Islam only regulated the practice.
She said slave women are those who have been captured as prisoners of war, adding that their Muslim captors have the right to own them.
“In order to humiliate them, they become the property of the army commander, or of a Muslim, and he can have sex with them just like he has sex with his wives,” Saleh said.
Dr. Andrew Holt, professor of history at Florida State College, expressed dismay at the Islamic scholar’s alleged comments, saying that Saleh’s statements could be viewed as the Muslim world’s approval of the enslavement and rape of Yazidi women by ISIS fighters and officials.
Holt said he was surprised that such a detestable crime and human rights violation is sanctioned by a female professor from “Sunni Islam’s most prestigious university” which is more than 1,000 years old.
The anti-Islam Internet group Jihad Watch said Saleh’s statements were based on the Quran. The group said the seizure of infidel girls and their use as sex slaves are all sanctioned in the Muslim holy book.
Jihad Watch cited this Quranic as proof: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war.”
The Qur’an says that a man may have sex with his wives and also with his slave girls, the group says. It cited this particular verse in the Quran: “The believers must (eventually) win through, those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess, for (in their case) they are free from blame.” (Qur’an 23:1-6)
In May 2011, the Egyptian Sheikh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni declared that “we are in the era of jihad,” which means that Muslims could take slaves
“Jihad is only between Muslims and infidels. Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholars—there is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. The prisoners and spoils are distributed among the fighters, which includes men, women, children, wealth, and so on,” al-Huwayni said.
“When a slave market is erected … you go to the market, look at the sex-slave, and buy her. She becomes like your wife, (but) she doesn’t need a (marriage) contract or a divorce like a free woman,” the sheikh said.
