Christian persecution charity boss resigns amid concerns

Wilson Chowdhry (pictured above right), who was the director of British Pakistani Christian Association, terminated his role on 26 June 2019, according to the UK government’s Companies House website.

He also submitted a notice of ceasing to be a person with significant control in the charity.

In a statement to Premier, the Charity Commission said it is aware of concerns relating to British Pakistani Christian Ltd (it’s legal name).

The UK charity regulator has contacted British Pakistani Christians Ltd for further information, and noted it is not conducting a “formal statutory inquiry”.

Chowdhry, 44, told the Ilford Recorder he resigned for “personal reasons”.

Companies House now lists Juliet Chowdhry, Vanessa Ramchurn and Dorah Mayah as the directors of British Pakistani Christians Ltd.

The charity raises awareness of the persecution and discrimination Pakistani Christians face. It also provides support and aid for those suffering.

Chowdhry was a regular commentator on Premier news stories and has been widely outspoken about the blasphemy case against Asia Bibi in Pakistan.

Premier has contacted Chowdhry for comment.

Congressional Oaths Affirming ‘God’ Are ‘Preposterous,’ House Democrat Says

Congressional Oaths Affirming ‘God’ Are ‘Preposterous,’ House Democrat Says

A House Democrat is criticizing the inclusion of “so help me God” in congressional oaths, saying it’s both unconstitutional and “preposterous” to force everyone to affirm such a belief.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman (Calif.), who is the only non-religious member of Congress, told the television show Freethought Matters that his Democratic colleagues “backed down” on the issue earlier this year. Freethought Matters is produced by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

“Well, unfortunately, it’s been kind of a sporadic standard,” Huffman said of including “so help me God” in oaths.

“Some committees have dropped the oath, others have not,” he said. “I sit on the Natural Resources Committee and in our original proposed rules for the committee [this year], we proposed that we drop the oath or we allow witnesses to simply say it voluntarily if they chose to, which to me makes perfect sense.”

But then, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) and others “went ballistic,” he said.

“Unfortunately, my Democratic colleagues backed down,” he said. “… It’s unconstitutional to require a witness in congressional testimony to affirm an oath to a deity they may not even believe in or to affirm an oath to a singular deity when you might be a polytheistic Hindu for example. It’s just…

‘I don’t see the Bible in the same eyes I saw 20 years ago’

The 65-year-old opened up about his changing views in a video on Facebook this week.

In it, he said: “I’m sorry to say that prosperity has gone a little crazy and I’m correcting my own theology and you need to all know it. Because when I read the Bible now, I don’t see the Bible in the same eyes I saw 20 years ago.”

Hinn is known for his healing ministry along with teaching in which believers were asked to give money and receive God’s blessing.

Speaking out against his previous beliefs, he said: “I think it’s an offense to the Lord, it’s an offense to say give $1,000. I think it’s an offense to the Holy Spirit to place a price on the Gospel. I’m done with it. I will never again ask you to give $1,000 or whatever amount, because I think the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it.”

His comments come a year after admitting he sometimes went “to the extreme” in preaching to people about prosperity.

In another Facebook video, he said: “It’s not God’s word that is taught and I think I’m as guilty as others.

“Sometimes you go a little farther than you really need to go and then God brings you back to normality and reality.”

Benny Hinn has been criticised by many for living a lavish lifestyle while touring the world with his healing ministry.

In 2007, Hinn’s ministry was investigated by US politicians on the Senate Committee on Finance to determine whether he had benefited…

Archaeologists Discover Mosaic Potentially Showing the Location of Jesus’ Feeding of the 5,000

Archaeologists Discover Mosaic Potentially Showing the Location of Jesus’ Feeding of the 5,000

Archaeologists in Israel have unearthed a centuries-old mosaic potentially depicting the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000, according to CBN News. The mosaic, discovered on the floor of an early Christian Church, might reveal more about where the miracle occurred.

“Observed for the first time in about 1,600 years, the mosaic’s colors are bright and its subjects unmistakable,” an article by Haaretz said. “Their interpretation is another matter.”

The mosaic was found inside the “Burnt Church,” one of at least seven churches in Antiochia-Hippos. Archaeologists believe the church was burned down during the Sasanian conquest in the 7th century. But the ash from the fire actually served to preserve the colorful mosaic on the floor below.

In the nave of the Burnt Church on the mosaic are two triplets of fish — six in total. Each set features a large, medium, and small fish. Besides the fishes is a basket of bread containing five loaves.

“There can certainly be different explanations to the descriptions of loaves and fish in the mosaic, but you cannot ignore the similarity to the description in the New Testament: for example, from the fact that the New Testament has a description of five loaves in a basket or the two fish depicted in the apse, as we find in the mosaic,” Dr. Michael Eisenberg, head of the excavation team in…

J.John celebrates 40 years of ministry ‘God has been gracious over decades’

The renowned public speaker who has shared the gospel message at conferences, churches and stadiums across the globe, celebrated 40 years of ministry on Monday.

Reflecting on his years of service he said he was filled with “gratitude and surprise” at how God has used him.

Writing on his blog, he said: “There is so much to be thankful for. No Christian – and certainly no one who is publicly engaged in proclaiming the good news of Jesus – can take such a period for granted.

“Somehow, in spite of myself, God has been gracious not just over days or even years but decades!”

In 1998, J. John received a Lambeth MA from the former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, in recognition of Church Growth and Evangelism.

Carey said he regarded J. John as a speaker of “national and international repute.”

In 2017, J. John hosted the first JustOne event, a conference focused on proclaiming the gospel, at Emirates Stadium in London.

Speaking to Premier before the event, J. John said “When I was speaking at Winchester Cathedral I felt the Lord say, ‘It’s time to preach my good news in the football stadiums again.'”

The event, which church-goers were encouraged to fill with their non-Christians friends, was attended by over 23,000 people and was watched by 250,000 online.

Portsmouth churches and ministries will be partnering with J. John for another JustOne event at Guildhall in April…

Operation Blessing Deploys Team to Distribute Medical Relief, Clean Water to the Bahamas

Operation Blessing Deploys Team to Distribute Medical Relief, Clean Water to the Bahamas

North Carolina-based global humanitarian organization Operation Blessing sent a relief team on Wednesday to Nassau, Bahamas, to bring emergency aid after Hurricane Dorian’s devastation.

Last week, Dorian ripped through the Bahamas, destroying or severely damaging over 13,000 homes. The death toll is still unknown, though officials believe 20 are dead, according to CNN.

Operation Blessing will work with local partners, such as Water Mission, Wave 4 Water, and Third Wave Volunteers, to assess the damage. Once a plan has been made, the team, which includes two water treatment experts and a medical doctor, will bring clean water, medical aid, food, and shelter to those in need.

A second team will arrive on Thursday.

The group will also pass out 500 solar-powered lights, 5,000 strips of Aquatabs and 200 Katadyn Gravity Filters to provide clean drinking water. They will also transport an Aquifer 360 solar-powered mobile water treatment system, which is a lightweight, portable system that can purify up to 15 gallons of water per hour.

Residents in the Bahamas are reeling from the chaos Dorian caused.

“It’s extremely frightening,” Sharon Rolle told CNN in a telephone interview. “There is no neighborhood…I don’t feel safe.”

She continued, “I don’t see the authorities around. They say that they’re here, but I honestly…

No decision on Justin Welby’s attendance at GAFCON conference

The event is seen as a rival gathering to the Lambeth Conference which Justin Welby will host next year.

While all Anglican bishops have been invited to the Lambeth Conference on 27th July – 1st August 2020, some have suggested they won’t attend in protest at what they perceive as a move towards a more liberal position on sexuality within the Anglican Communion.

In a statement announcing the GAFCON event, leaders said: “On the one hand, we have no interest in attempting to rival Lambeth 2020. On the other hand, we do not want our bishops to be deprived of faithful fellowship while we wait for order in the Communion to be restored.

“Therefore, we have decided to call together a meeting of bishops of the Anglican Communion in June of 2020. The conference will be primarily designed for those who will not be attending Lambeth, but all bishops of the Anglican Communion who subscribe to the Jerusalem Declaration and Lambeth Resolution I.10 are invited to join in this time of teaching, worship, and fellowship.”

In a question to Dame Caroline Spelman, who represents the Church in Parliament, Tory MP Sir John Hayes asked whether Justin Welby plans to join the meeting in Rwanda.

In her response, she said: “At previous meetings of the Global Anglican Future Conference the Archbishop of Canterbury has been represented by a diocesan bishop of the Church of England.

“No decision has yet been taken by the Archbishop of…

C of E’s representative in Parliament to step down at General Election, citing abuse and Brexit as reasons

Caroline Spelman, who liaises between the Church of England and Parliament, will stand down at the next general election.

The Conservative MP for Meriden has held her seat in the West Midlands since 1997 and has also been the Secretary of State for Environment and had many shadow ministerial roles.

Explaining her reasons for stepping down on Premier’s News Hour, she said: “I’ve been a member of parliament for 22 years and I’ve never really noticed a period quite like what we’ve been through over the last couple of years, it’s been very difficult.

“One of the main reasons I’ve given is that I have suffered a lot of abuse – online, in writing, verbally, and it’s been directed at me and my family and my staff and I really think it’s got to stop.

“I’ve worked hard to try to avoid a no deal Brexit because I saw the evidence of the impact it would have on the area where I live, because the West Midlands is the major exporting region to the EU, but that drew a lot of very, very abusive emails and I just feel we’ve had enough.

“I feel I’ve made the right decision, I’ve put the national interest first.”

Dame Caroline Spelman voted with the government throughout Theresa May’s battle over Brexit with the Commons and was the author of an amendment on giving expression to the majority of parliament.

She voted with Boris Johnson’s government on Tuesday night, when several of her…

Justin Bieber says God blessed him with people, after drug abuse and broken relationships

The Canadian singer, who became famous when he was 13, shot to fame quickly after being discovered and, despite huge popularity, also got much media criticism for the mistakes he made in his youth.

He acknowledged in his post that he had a lot of money, clothes, cars and awards but says he was not satisfied and felt an enormous burden, saying: “when you add the pressure of stardom it does something quite unexplainable to you”.

He described how his world was “flipped on its head” and he was being “praised left and right by the world with millions saying how much they loved me and how great I was”.

However, he admitted that he started doing drugs at 19 and “abused all of my relationships…became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry.”

The celebrity, who now attends a Hillsong church and is married to model Hailey Baldwin, added: “It’s taken me years to bounce back from all of these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships, and change relationship habits. Luckily god blessed me with extraordinary people who love me for me.

“Now I am navigating the best season of my life MARRIAGE!!” which he said was teaching him “patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility and all the things it looks like to be a good man”.

He concluded: “even when the odds are against you keep fighting. Jesus loves you…LOVE PEOPLE TODAY NOT BY YOUR STANDARDS BUT BY GOD’S PERFECT…
