America’s Problems ‘Cannot Be Solved without God,’ Franklin Graham Says after Watching Debate

America’s Problems ‘Cannot Be Solved without God,’ Franklin Graham Says after Watching Debate

Evangelist Franklin Graham says Tuesday’s presidential debate should lead Christians to one conclusion: America cannot be rescued without God.

The rancorous debate between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden was called the worst in modern presidential history by many on the Left and the Right, and polls indicated Americans didn’t like what they watched. A CBS News/YouGov poll after the debate said only 17 percent of debate watchers said they were “informed” by the debate. Most (69 percent) said they were “annoyed.”

Graham didn’t reveal his thoughts about the debate, although he implied it wasn’t good for the nation.

“After watching the debate last night, we are reminded that the problems we face as a nation cannot be solved without God. He is our only hope,” Graham wrote on Facebook. “Many areas of our country are in chaos. People are so divided. The coronavirus has attacked almost every country in the world, with no end in sight.

“But God can deliver us, if we call upon Him, turn from our sins, repent, and put our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. May we continue to pray for those in leadership that God would give them wisdom and direction. And we need to pray for all aspects of the upcoming election.

“The Word of God says, ‘Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.’ (Isaiah…

Amy Coney Barrett Opposed ‘Abortion on Demand’ in 2006 Newspaper Ad

Amy Coney Barrett Opposed ‘Abortion on Demand’ in 2006 Newspaper Ad

U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett allowed her name to appear in a newspaper pro-life insert in 2006 that said she and others oppose “abortion on demand,” according to a new report that may be the most revealing indicator yet of her personal views on abortion.

The names of Barrett and other local citizens appeared in the newspaper ad under the statement, “We, the following citizens of Michiana, oppose abortion on demand and support the right to life from fertilization to natural death,” according to a report from National Review’s Ramesh Ponnuru.

The insert was sponsored by St. Joseph County Right to Life. “Michiana” is a term used to describe the region around South Bend that includes Michigan and Indiana.

“Barrett’s signature is the most direct confirmation we have received that she believes there should be limits on abortion, but it is not a surprise: We already knew that she had been part of Notre Dame’s ‘Faculty for Life,’ and that she is a Catholic who seeks to adhere to Church teaching,” Ponnuru wrote.

Although the insert may reveal her personal feelings on abortion, it does not mean she is an automatic vote to overturn Roe v. Wade or even to uphold abortion restrictions if she is confirmed.

During Chief Justice John Roberts’ confirmation in 2005, the Los Angeles Times reported that his wife, Jane Sullivan Roberts, previously was…

Pro-Lifer Punched in the Face by Abortion Activist during Protests in Washington D.C.

Pro-Lifer Punched in the Face by Abortion Activist during Protests in Washington D.C.

As a group of abortion activists were staging a protest to denounce the nomination of Amy Comey Barrett, Students For Life came to show their support for the Supreme Court nominee. However, not everyone in the abortion rally took kindly to their appearance.

In fact, one of the pro-life supporters was reportedly punched in the face by one of the abortion activists. According to The Christian Post, Breitbart news captured “the dueling demonstrations in front of the Supreme Court” on video.

In the 90-minute long video, abortion activists can be heard chanting “no confirmation before inauguration” while pro-life activists yelled “we have the vote.”

About an hour into the video, as one activist is yelling “abortion kills a human person” into a megaphone, a woman standing next to her, identified later as Autumn Schimmer, was seemingly punched in the face. The assailant immediately fled the area.

Twenty-three-year-old Schimmer, the communications and market manager for Students for Life Action, said in a statement on the Students for Life of America website, “I was approached by a pro-choice woman who wanted to have a conversation about what feminism means to me. I told her that women are not empowered when they kill their own children, and we need to do better.”

Schimmer continued, “After that, she was getting more aggressive. I took a step back to return…

Atheist Group Files Amicus Brief Supporting Christian Student Disciplined for Evangelizing on Campus

Atheist Group Files Amicus Brief Supporting Christian Student Disciplined for Evangelizing on Campus

An atheist group has filed an amicus brief supporting a lawsuit against a Georgia college that disciplined a Christian student for preaching on campus.

According to The Christian Post, the American Humanist Association filed the brief this week in the case of Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski.

In the case, the Alliance Defending Freedom filed suit on behalf of student Chike Uzuegbunam against George Gwinnett College.

Uzuegbunam was disciplined for distributing Christian literature outside the limits of a free speech zone on the college campus.

According to school policy, which has since changed, students were only allowed to preach or distribute literature at two “free speech zones” on campus.

AHA Executive Director Roy Speckhardt said in a statement released Tuesday that he believes people must “be given every chance to preserve their First Amendment rights.

“While the AHA and ADF may approach the Constitution from different angles, at the very least we agree that First Amendment litigation and the associated rights are essential to our democracy,” he said.

In the amicus brief, the American Humanist Association said, “religious freedom” is the “cornerstone of our democracy.”

“On the chopping block is a time-honored remedy essential to vindicating the most important rights in our country. Religious freedom—the cornerstone of our democracy—could…

Netflix Loses 2.5 Million Subscribers over Cuties

Netflix Loses 2.5 Million Subscribers over Cuties

Over 2.5 million Netflix subscribers have cancelled their accounts over Netflix’s promotion of Cuties, a film about a child dancing explicitly in a competition with other girls, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The report is based off Wells Fargo’s Steven Cahall, stating the fall comes from Netflix subscribers from the U.S. and Canada leaving the streaming service. Originally, he forecasted a gain of 500,000 subscribers for the quarter, but after looking at the numbers, he saw the massive decline.

The Hollywood Reporter reports him saying, “We think the current controversy and elevated churn is essentially a flash in the pan for Netflix. If we are to believe reports, then Netflix faced a short-lived but potentially stark churn uptick in September due to controversy around Cuties. … Given how strong Netflix is as a service we’re loathe to get too negative, but our churn analysis does imply some meaningful pressure.”

The pressure comes after a series of reports about Netflix promoting the Sundance award-winning film Cuties, which is about a young Muslim girl who rebels against her conservative faith by joining a dance team, where they perform explicit dances in competition. Reportedly, the parents are painted as religious extremists who are trying to keep their daughter from growing up. Throughout the film, viewers are subjected to sexual dance scenes and what some considered a promotion of child sexual…

LifeWay halts lawsuit against former president Thom Rainer

Two days after filing a lawsuit against its former president, Thom Rainer, for allegedly breaching his severance agreement, LifeWay Christian Resources announced Wednesday that it will resolve the dispute in a different manner.

“While there have been numerous public misstatements and inaccuracies surrounding this matter, we have been and continue to be hopeful that we may resolve this issue with Dr. Rainer regarding his agreement with LifeWay and his partnership with a competitor,” Todd Fannin, chairman of the organization’s board of trustees wrote in an email to his colleagues who had planned to meet over disagreements concerning the lawsuit Wednesday.

“In lieu of moving forward with litigation, both parties are currently exploring the possibility of an agreed upon resolution of the differences. Our continued prayer is that this will be resolved quickly and amicably,” he noted.

In the email cited by the Baptist Press, Fanning said they arrived at the decision after a meeting of the trustee executive committee. An emergency meeting that was scheduled for the full board was…

San Francisco Mayor Eases One-Person COVID Restriction on Houses of Worship

San Francisco Mayor Eases One-Person COVID Restriction on Houses of Worship

San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced, houses of worship may reopen to 25 percent capacity or up to 100 people, due to the city’s declining infection and case rates.

Breed was previously under fire for limiting gatherings at houses of worship to one person.

“We know this continues to be a challenging time with people struggling economically and emotionally. However, thanks to San Francisco’s commitment to following public health guidance, we are seeing improvements in our numbers, which means we can continue to move forward with reopening,” said Mayor Breed.

However, several religions and denominations have protested the city’s restrictive rules as “unjust” limitations not imposed on their secular counterparts. According to The Christian Post, Catholic congregants participated in the “Free the Mass” event last week and walked from city hall to the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption where San Francisco Archbishop Salatore Cordileone conducted an outdoor mass.

“Particularly for us as Catholics, attending the Mass and receiving the Body and Blood of Christ in person is the source and the summit of our faith, and we have shown we can celebrate the Mass safely,” Cordileone said in a petition that gathered over 35,000 signatures. “As three major infectious disease specialists recently pointed out, ‘over one million public [M]asses have been celebrated…

SBC calls white supremacy scheme of the devil after Trump comment

Greear, current president of the SBC, during the Executive Committee’s meeting June 10, 2019 at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, Ala. | Matt Miller

Senior officers of the Southern Baptist Convention reaffirmed the denomination’s repudiation of white supremacy as a “scheme of the devil” Wednesday after a controversial call by President Donald Trump to far-right activists to “stand back and stand by” during the presidential debate on Tuesday.

“When asked to condemn white supremacy, every single one of us should be ready to do so. Racism is, sadly, not extinct, and we know from our Southern Baptist history the effects of the horrific sins of racism and hatred,” SBC President J.D. Greear said on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

“We denounce and repudiate white supremacy and every form of racial and ethnic hatred as a scheme of the devil intended to bring suffering and division to our society. We re-affirm what Southern Baptists said to this in 2017.”

Foul-mouthed birds removed from wildlife park: Connecting our everyday words with our faith

Adobe Stock

When a wildlife park in Lincolnshire, England, adopted five new parrots in August, few expected the birds to become the center of controversy. As Kate Ng writes for The Independent, however, it didn’t take long before they began causing some rather colorful problems.

Shortly after arriving, the birds “taught each other obscenities while quarantined together in the same room.” Steve Nichols, the park’s chief executive, explains that “the more they swear the more you usually laugh which then triggers them to swear again.”

The birds eventually picked up on the laughter as well, to the point that, when one of the birds would curse, the others would laugh and then repeat the process.

The workers found it amusing, but “within 20 minutes of being in the introductory we were told that they had sworn at a customer and for the next group of people, all sorts of obscenities came out.” While the customers mostly found the display amusing as well, the park decided it would be better to remove them.

The parrots now live in an “off-shore enclosure” with roughly 1,500 other parrots, though the five have been separated to hopefully mitigate further spread of their swearing.

Choosing our words carefully

Scripture warns that “the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” (James 3:5). Every parent can attest to the reality of that situation.

I have two small kids, and both reached an age sooner than I expected when I could count on hearing my own occasional verbal miscues coming back at me via the otherwise innocent sound of a child’s voice.

Those have not been my proudest moments as a father, but they have served as a strong reminder of why it’s so important that we choose our words carefully when speaking to or around others.

While we’re not all surrounded by impressionable young children, the manner in which we talk…

Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Warns against ‘Treating Church as Politics’

Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Warns against ‘Treating Church as Politics’

In a sermon at Washington D.C.’s Washington National Cathedral, the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who heads the Anglican Church and is one step below the Monarch, who is the top authority of the communion, told Christians to disengage from politics at church and to refrain from bad behavior on social media.

According to The Christian Post, Welby asserted that “the Kingdom of God is ‘an autocracy of the purest love,’ and Christians ‘do not choose to be its citizens; its ruler called us out of helpless darkness.’”

In a YouTube video of the sermon released, along with a transcript, by the Archbishop’s website, Welby tells the story of Jacob, whom he refers to as “a narcissistic conman, found out, thrown out, down and out,” to show that people are complex and that Christians shouldn’t oversimplify situations.

“[Jacob] has cheated his father and his brother. Yet God’s grace and love are greater than his sins and failing,” he said.

“He is in great danger. Hot pursuit is close behind him. Wild animals are round about him. Yet God, the unknown God of his ancestors, is with him. In Jacob’s ignorance and sin God draws near, rescues, blesses and sets him on a new course. His future is of blessing received and giving.”

Welby continues, “Here is no simple solution. Virtue is not rewarded, nor sin punished. There is no comfortable sense that because…
