John Piper Identifies ‘One Kind of Sin’ Believers Must Instantly Repent Of

(Photo: T4G/Sarah Danaher)John Piper

Reformed theologian John Piper has said that the “one kind of sin” believers must “take care of right away” is the sin that hurts others.

Responding to a question about how to make time to confess sin amid the busyness of life, Piper, the founder of DesiringGod.org and former lead pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, explained that Christians should immediately interrupt their busy schedules to repent of sins that hurt other people.

“If we discern that the words we have spoken or what we’ve done has wounded somebody or caused them to sin, I think Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:23–24 about leaving our gift at the altar and hastening toward reconciliation really does apply in principle here,” he said. “If they’re hurt, then let’s just stop what we’re doing, apologize, and seek to make it right.”

The pastor contended that repentance doesn’t need to be long-winded; God would “gladly receive from us a two- or three-second whispered, ‘Oh Lord, I’m so sorry. Please help me. Please forgive me.'”

“We must remember that there is no merit assigned in the Bible to any particular length of confession or repentance or remorse for sin,” he offered. “In fact, when Jesus teaches the Lord’s prayer and how to apologize to God for sin,…

Open Heaven 11 October 2018 – God Has A Need!

Open Heaven 11 October 2018 Thursday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – God Has A Need!

Topic: God Has A Need! (Open Heaven 11 October 2018)

Memorise: “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”- John 14:23

Read: Revelation 21:1-3(KJV)

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Bible in One Year: Isaiah 51-53, Luke 4:38-5:16

Open Heaven 11 October 2018 Thursday MESSAGE:

Our God is the Creator of heaven and earth. “The All-Sufficient One” is one of His many Names, and it describes an important attribute of His. As a self-existing Spirit, He does not need anything outside of Himself for substance or existence (John 5:26, 1 Timothy 6:16). It therefore seems strange to think that God has a need. Let us ponder on what the elders in heaven are saying in their worship, as revealed in Revelation 4:11:

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

From this statement of adoration, “God’s need” can be understood from the perspective of the purpose for which he created all things. He created all things for His own pleasure, and He specifically created mankind for the purpose of communion or fellowship. This truth is reinforced by the words of our Lord in today’s memory verse. The constant fellowship that God had with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day is also a manifestation of this truth (Genesis 3:8). Several scripture passages speak of a link between the creation of mankind and acts of devotion such as praise and worship. Isaiah 43:21 says:

“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

God’s desire for fellowship is therefore not a need as we understand “need”, but an expression of God’s grace, mercy and love towards humanity (1 Corinthians 1:9).

The essence of the Christian life is to fellowship with God. Everything created before man was not suitable for this purpose because they were not created in His image and so could not relate with Him on an interactive level. Genesis 5:22-24 contains the fascinating account of Enoch who walked with God in close fellowship, so much so that God took him away with Him. Similarly, Abraham also fellowshipped with God to the extent that he received the distinction of being called the friend of God (2 Chronicles 20:7, James 2:23). David’s fellowship with God was also exemplary that God testified of him in Acts 13:22c, saying:

“I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”

As a result of the finished work of redemption by the Lord Jesus Christ, God now makes His permanent abode with us, in the form of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us (John 14:23, 1 Corinthians 6:19). Therefore, our fellowship with God is established on the spiritual union we have with Jesus, which will be made perfect when we see Him face to face (John 14:20-21). I pray that everything hindering your fellowship with God will be destroyed today in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 11 October 2018 Thursday Prayer Point:

Father, please cause my heart to continually hunger for Your presence in Jesus’ Name.

1.Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2.Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3.Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose,
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Children hurt in partial roof collapse at East Lothian church hall

The youngsters were attending Cubs, Beavers and Scouts clubs at Tranent Parish Church Hall when sections of material gave way.

The Church of Scotland said the cause was not yet known but the body responsible for enforcing workplace safety in Great Britain had been informed.

In a statement, Church leaders said: “We have met with the Health and Safety Executive this morning and the building will be closed until further notice.

“We are very thankful that the injuries sustained were not more serious and we hope the children are now recovering.

“Our prayers are with everyone who was hurt or affected by this incident.”

Police were called to the building on Church Street in Tranent shortly before 7pm. No one was seriously hurt.

One parent who was inside the hall at the time told Dundee-based newspaper, The Courier: “The ceiling plaster collapsed from the roof over a group of children, the Beavers, and it was chaos – walking wounded and one with head split open.

“The Beaver leader was distraught; three Beavers were being enrolled just as the ceiling came down over all the group.

“This could have been far worse.”

Pastor Rick Warren Urges Christians to Forgive People for Past Wrong-Doings

Pastor Rick Warren Urges Christians to Forgive People for Past Wrong-Doings

Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren said of resentment that it is the “unhealthiest emotion there is” and encouraged Christians to forgive others for their wrong doings.

Author of “The Purpose Driven Life,” Warren told readers in a devotional on Tuesday that people need to learn to show grace and forgive because holding grudges is not what Jesus has taught us to do.

“You say, ‘Why in the world should I forgive that person who hurt me so much? You have no idea how much they hurt me. Why should I offer grace to that person?'” he asked before answering the question with three specific reasons.

Warren started by saying you must “Be gracious to others and forgive those who’ve hurt you because God has been gracious to you.”

He contended, “You will never have to forgive anyone else more than Jesus Christ has already forgiven you.”

“Remember that you haven’t always gotten what you deserved, either. God has been gracious with you. Now choose to be gracious with others,” he added.

Warren goes on to say that choosing not to forgive others is choosing the path to bitterness.

“Scientists,” he said, “tell us that resentment is the unhealthiest emotion there is.”

“It always hurts you more than anybody else! Resentment will not change the past, and it won’t solve the problem. It doesn’t even make you feel better. In fact, it makes you feel worse,”…

Joel Osteen on Following the ‘Billy Graham Rule,’ Discusses Pastors’ Accountability and Depression

(Photo: The Christian Post)Televangelist Joel Osteen speaks during a “Night of Hope” event at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 6, 2018.

WASHINGTON — In an age in which pastors are frequently being brought down by sexual scandals, popular author and Pastor Joel Osteen says he follows what is known as the “Billy Graham rule.”

The 55-year-old Osteen, whose sermons are seen on television by millions worldwide each week, spoke with The Christian Post before taking the stage for his monthly “Night of Hope” event attended by thousands at Capital One Arena last Saturday.

The Houston, Texas-based pastor talked about his new book, Next Level Thinking: 10 Powerful Thoughts for a Successful and Abundant Life, and answered a number of questions touching on subjects that range from pastor accountability and depression to whether his 45,000-member Lakewood Church has considered becoming a multicampus congregation.

Below is an edited transcript of CP’s interview with Osteen:

CP: There’s a lot in the news today. It seems like every now and again, we are seeing pastors or clergy being brought down by some [sexual] scandal or another. For you, what steps for accountability do you have? Do you follow the Billy Graham rule [where men avoid spending time alone with women they…

“I want to start by thanking God” Ashers couple speak of relief at winning appeal

The five justices on the Supreme Court judges unanimously ruled that Daniel and Amy McArthur did not discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation when they cancelled the order of gay man Gareth Lee.

Daniel McArthur, the general manager of Ashers Baking Company, came out of the court looking relieved, saying: “I want to start by thanking God, He has been with us during the challenges of the last four years. Through the Bible and the support of Christians he has comforted us and sustained us. He is our rock and all of his ways are just.

Mr McArthur went on: “We’re delighted and relieved at today’s ruling. We always knew we hadn’t done anything wrong in turning down this order. After more than four years, the Supreme Court has now recognised that and we are very grateful; grateful to the judges and especially grateful to God.

“We’re particularly pleased that the Supreme Court emphatically accepted what we have said all along. We did not turn down this order because of the person who made it but because of the message itself. The judges have given a clear signal today, in fact it couldn’t be clearer – family businesses like ours are free to focus on giving all their customers the best service they can without being forced to promote other people’s campaigns.

“I know a lot of people who will be very glad of this ruling today because this ruling protects freedom of…

Billy Graham’s Grandson Reveals What Caused Him to ‘Fall in Love’ With the Bible

(PHOTO: THE CHRISTIAN POST)Will Graham, executive director of the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove and vice president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, attends the red carpet premiere of “Unbroken: Path to Redemption.”

Will Graham, grandson of the late Billy Graham, has shared how he “fell in love” with the Bible while studying at Liberty University and reflected on how his time at the college influenced his ministry career.

Speaking to The Christian Post, Graham, who serves as the executive director of the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove and vice president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, said his time at the private college in Lynchburg, Virginia, was “very instrumental” in shaping who he is today.

“When I got there, I knew a lot about the people because I was so rooted in church, and I had a mom and dad who read me the Bible,” he said. “But when I came to Liberty, I actually fell in love with the Bible. I just developed this love for the Bible and I soaked it up.”

The 43-year-old Graham, whose father is famed evangelist Franklin Graham, said that even today, he draws upon the tools and techniques he learned at Liberty when crafting his sermons.

“I had one professor who taught me how to organize my Bible study so I could learn how to teach myself God’s Word,” he recalled. “His name was Paul Fink. Paul has now passed away, but he was very influential in my life and shaping how I studied the Bible and how I make my sermons today.”

“Liberty was very instrumental in shaping how I do ministry today,” he added.

Teens Twice as Likely to Affirm Moral Relativism, Survey Finds

Teens Twice as Likely to Affirm Moral Relativism, Survey Finds

Teens are twice as likely than Boomers to strongly believe morality is relative and are less likely to believe abortion and homosexuality are morally wrong, according to a new Barna survey.

The poll found that 24 percent of teens (ages 13-18) strongly believe that “what is morally right and wrong changes over time based on society.” Among Boomers – those born between 1946 and 1964 – only 12 percent strongly affirm the statement.

Among Millennials (born between 1984 and 1998), 21 percent strongly believe in moral relativity, while 18 percent of Gen X (born between 1965 and 1983) affirm it.

The survey, released Tuesday, also shows teens are more liberal than older generations on several issues. For example:

Only 20 percent of teens strongly believe homosexual behavior is morally wrong. It’s the lowest percentage among all generations.

34 percent of teens strongly believe lying is morally wrong, compared to 50 percent of Gen X and 54 percent of Boomers who strongly believe it.

29 percent of teens strongly believe abortion is morally wrong. While that percent is higher than may be expected, it nevertheless is the lowest percentage among all generations.

On a few issues, such as whether sex before marriage is wrong, teens are on par with other generations. Twenty-one percent of teens strongly believe it is wrong, compared to 22 percent of…

Inscription on Pottery Links Jerusalem of Jesus’ Time to Jerusalem of Today

Inscription on Pottery Links Jerusalem of Jesus’ Time to Jerusalem of Today

Israeli archaeologists uncovered a unique piece of pottery that links the Jerusalem of 2,000 years ago to the Jerusalem of today.

While conducting a pre-construction dig last winter in preparation for a new road, the team of archaeologists unearthed a pillar that was inscribed in Hebrew near the entrance to Jerusalem.

The Hebrew inscription was the first of its kind to be discovered from its time period around the age of Herod the Great, marking it as the oldest inscription ever found using the modern Hebrew spelling and pronunciation of “Jerusalem.”

The pillar is now being displayed in Israel Museum’s Second Temple gallery as a part of a new exhibit which features unique artifacts from the capital and is the oldest artifact from the time of Jesus in the exhibit.

The inscription reads, Hananiah bar Dodalos m’Yerushalayim – Hananiah, the son of Dodalos, from Jerusalem.

Dudi Mevorach, senior curator of Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Archaeology at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem told CBN that this was a remarkable discovery. He said, “Jerusalem surprisingly for us is inscribed the same way we write it today and the same way we pronounce it today: Yerushalayim.”

He continued, “It’s the first time we have an inscription of this sort from 2,000 years ago, from the times of the Second Temple Period.”

According to CBN News, Mevorach has seen the…
