Buttigieg: ‘Life Begins with Breath,’ Bible Backs Late-Term Abortion

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is being criticized for comments suggesting life begins at a baby’s first breath and the Bible supports abortion up until the moment of birth.

The remarks by the mayor of South Bend, Ind., occurred during an appearance on a New York radio station’s morning show last week when the discussion turned to the issue of abortion.

Abortion, Buttigieg said, is “obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally.”

“Then again, you know, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath,” Buttigieg told the hosts of Power 105.1 FM’s Breakfast Club show. “And so even that is something that we can interpret differently.

“But I think no matter where you think about the kind of cosmic question of how life begins,” he said, “most Americans can get on board with the idea of – all right – I might draw the line here, you might draw the line there, but the most important thing is the person who should be drawing line is the woman making the decision.”

Buttigieg’s comments sparked plenty of reaction from pro-lifers, including from his brother-in-law, Rhyan Glezman, who is the pastor of a church in Michigan.

“If we’re going to say we’re for all people and we love all people, but we don’t value human life in the womb, that’s being a hypocrite,”…

Hillsong singer gives update on worship leader Chelsea Taylor’s brain aneurysm

She was taken to an intensive care unit after an 8am service at the Hills campus site in Sydney on 18th August. where they discovered she had a brain aneurysm, a bulge in a blood vessel that can cause sudden agonising headaches, a stiff neck, sickness and pain when looking at light.

Chelsea Taylor has had neck and back pain, making moving around at all difficult and has also had surgery on her brain.

Emma Fellers, a friend who is also part of the Hillsong Australia worship team posted on Instagram on Sunday: “It’s been a challenging weekend and the recovery journey takes time. Chelsea had to have another main line inserted, but tubes and drainage got removed! Three weeks since the aneurysm – It’s tiring and she just wants to go home… Chelsea has been able to be more active again, like doing trips to the bathroom, which is great!

“The docs have also finished all the strong medications, so it looks like she may go to High Dependancy Unit soon! She is still continuing with antibiotics but hopefully not for too much longer. Please keep Chelsea & her family in your prayers as we believe for a full recovery and strength & grace for the moment!”

Five days ago Emma Fellers posted that they had spent the morning singing worship music before she went into surgery and then was told that she would not need any more operations.

A week ago, Chelsea’s mum Zella gave an…

‘The Lord Is My Master’ Reads Bible-era First Temple Seal Impression Found by Archaeologists

‘The Lord Is My Master’ Reads Bible-era First Temple Seal Impression Found by Archaeologists

A national service volunteer working in excavated dirt from the Western Wall in Jerusalem recently discovered a 7th century BCE clay sealer, which reads “Belonging to Adoniyahu, the Royal Steward.”

Translated, Adoniyahu means “The Lord is My Master,” the Time of Israel reports.

The one-centimeter sealer was found late last month, in dirt that had been excavated in 2013 from the foundations of the Western Wall under the staircase known as Robinson’s Arch. The clay sealer was most likely used to seal important documents and letters.

According to archaeologist Eli Shukron, the inscription is “of utmost importance.” The role of the Royal Steward (Asher al Habayit), he said, appears several times in the Bible and is used for the highest-level minister in the royal court.

In the Book of Genesis, Joseph’s position in Egypt is called the Royal Steward.

Holding the seal in his hand, Shukron said, “After 2,600 years, you come and hold this bulla, which was used to seal a letter, that was sent 2,600 years ago by the highest minister in the kingdom, it’s something amazing… It makes my heart skip a beat.”

The seal or bulla was found as part of the City of David Sifting Project in Jerusalem.

“I overturned a bucket of earth into the sifting pallet and began washing it with a spray of water. And all of a sudden, in the…

Sir David Attenborough joins scientists in calling for end to teaching creationism in Welsh schools

The Welsh Government is currently consulting on a new national curriculum that will drastically overhaul education in Wales and unlike in England, it does not currently explicitly prohibit teaching creationism.

Sir David Attenborough has joined around 50 scientists who’ve signed a petition calling for the teaching of creationism to be banned.

In a joint letter called ‘Teach evolution, not creationism’ in Wales’, they said “nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution”.

A Church of England priest and the Christian think tank Ekklesia have also signed the petition.

Geologist historian Rev Michael Roberts told Premier teaching creationism in a Science class doesn’t make sense.

“It has simply has no scientific credibility whatsoever as it’s based on a misunderstanding and misrepresentation of what science says, not only biology, but particularly geology with the vast age of the earth.”

He added that although he believes God is the creator of everything, science teachers should be neutral on whether there is a creator.

Creationist John MacKay disagrees with the view and says it’s important for creationism to be included in the classroom.

“It’s nonsense to say we’ve got to leave creation out because it’s the concept of creation and the creator that gave rise to the belief that there are rules and laws.”

Speaking of those who signed the petition, he said:…

Hindu Extremists Demand Death of One of Organizers of Christian Film in India

Hindu Extremists Demand Death of One of Organizers of Christian Film in India

HYDERABAD, India, Sept. 6, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Immanuel Tirkey and about 100 villagers were watching the end of a Christian film in Bihar state, India, when a man stood up in front of the screen and began shouting, “Who is the operator here? Who is the operator here?”

Tirkey, one of five Christians who had organized the screening of “He Will Come Again” at the home of a Christian woman identified only as Anandi on Aug. 23 in the Kodaila area of Jamalpur village, Siwan District, rose and asked what was the matter. The man told him to reduce the volume, and Tirkey did so.

“He was again and again asking me to reduce the volume,” Tirkey told Morning Star News. “I told him that if I reduced it more, it will not be audible to anybody seated here, and that there are only 10 minutes left for the movie to end.”

The man left, but as the villagers were gathering their belongings to leave after the screening, at least 15 Hindu villagers arrived with swords, bamboo poles and wooden sticks, he said. Anandi’s family immediately rushed Tirkey and the other four Christian organizers of the screening into their house and locked the doors.

“The batch of Hindu villagers abused them in filthy language, scattered the congregation and besieged the house,” Tirkey said. “It was midnight, and soon a mob of 250 angry, upper-caste Hindus showed up with…

Welsh council defends prayers before meetings

Denbighshire council in North Wales was criticised by Councillor Paul Penlington, alongside the National Secular Society for the practice which he said was “discriminatory to non-Christians” and asked for them to be moved to a room away from the council chambers.

The council responded by referring to a similar case from 2012 in Devon, in which Bideford Town Council were found to be acting unlawfully by having prayers at the start of their meetings, but were told they could still hold prayers before the meeting as long as no one was forced to attend.

A spokesman for Denbighshire County Council said: “Meetings do not formally begin until after prayers are said.

“The issue of prayers at Council meetings was considered by the High Court in a case in 2012 brought by the National Secular Society against Bideford Town Council, Devon.

“The court ruled that requiring members to pray was a breach of the Equality Act’s prohibition on religious discrimination and the right not to hold religious beliefs and not to be discriminated for that lack of belief contrary to Articles 9 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

“The Court further found that there was no specific or implied power for Councils to require this. The Court made a declaration that the point of this case was very narrow, that it only precluded prayers as part of the formal business of the meeting, and…

Church steps in with practical and spiritual help after fire destroys flats

A charred shell is almost all that remains of the partially-collapsed development in Worcester Park, Sutton.

The London Ambulance Service said no injuries had been reported.

Richard Bee, a deacon at Worcester Park Baptist Church, told Premier some members of the church live near where the fire happened and were up since the early hours providing help.

“We’re in the process of working with the council to work out what the best response we can offer is.

“They’ve been deluged by donations from the local community and have started putting up their hands and saying, ‘please don’t bring us any more stuff until we until we know what we actually need.’ ”

Church members are helping the council sort through the donations. Some members have also offered spare rooms for those with accommodation needs.

He said their aim to meet practical and spiritual needs in the situation.

“There is a space for bringing the hope of the gospel into it. But also, we need to be really careful that we’re not conflating two different things. There’s a very real practical need which we can meet in the immediate term. Then following that, there’s a very real spiritual need which we can meet.”

Resident Stephen Nobrega, a father of three children aged between eight months and 13 years old, told the PA News Agency he had “lost everything” after his ground-floor flat was destroyed.

He said:…

C of E calls for greater emphasis on Harvest in schools

A ComRes survey of over 4,000 adults also showed two thirds had fond memories of celebrating it in the past.

Bringing in food, singing hymns and saying prayers were some of things people remembered about Harvest at schools while teaching on generosity and the environment were the main benefits according to those questioned.

Only half of respondents said their children currently participate in the festivals at school though.

It’s thought some schools don’t mark the occasion at all.

The Church of England’s chief education officer, Rev Nigel Genders, said: “Harvest Festival is just one of the ways that the Christian tradition enriches the lives of children of all backgrounds as part of daily collective worship.

“It’s encouraging to know that parents agree and there is a clear call for more schools of all kinds to use the coming weeks to celebrate harvest, and I hope many will do so.

“Harvest is a wonderful opportunity for all schools and nurseries to help children and young people to think about how food reaches their plates and to say thank you for all they have received, as well as giving to those in need.”

Churches across the country will hold harvest collections in the coming weeks which will support local foodbanks.

Pope Francis arrives in Mauritius on final leg of his tour

Thousands of Mauritians waved palm branches as Francis arrived on Monday to celebrate a mass honouring the Reverend Jacques-Desire Laval.

While Catholics represent less than a third of Mauritius’ 1.3 million people, Father Laval is seen as a unifying figure for all Mauritians, most of whom are Hindu.

Francis is in the Mauritian capital Port Louis for just a few hours to meet with government leaders on the final day of his week-long Africa trip.

Attending the mass was a 50-member delegation from the Chagos Islands, an Indian Ocean archipelago that includes the US air base on Diego Garcia.
