Reinhard Bonnke, Evangelist Who Clashed With Muslims in Africa to Win Millions of Converts for Christ to Get Lifetime Award for Global Ministry

Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, 75.

Christian Post Report – Reinhard Bonnke, a longtime and once hardline global evangelist who clashed with Muslims in Africa to win millions of converts for Christ on the continent, is set to get a Lifetime Global Impact award at the Global Congress of Empowered21 in Jerusalem for his trailblazing ministry next month.

Bonnke will be honored alongside other veteran evangelists Morris Cerullo, Jack Hayford, Marilyn Hickey, David Manise, and Vinson Synan at the 2015 Global Congress to be held May 20-25. Empowered21 seeks to push a “Global Spirit-empowered movement throughout the world by focusing on crucial issues facing the movement and connecting generations for intergenerational blessing and impartation,” according to the organization’s website. This is the first time the organization will hand out lifetime awards.

All have served the Lord in various avenues and were chosen because they are “Spirit-empowered ministry leaders who have made a huge impact in the world. They have also shown a desire to invest in the next generation or implement a ministry succession plan,” Diane Morrow, a spokeswoman for the Barnabas Agency told The Christian Post.

“Reinhard Bonnke has totally dedicated himself to soul-winning for 50 years now. He has a laser-sharp focus on winning souls. Through his ministry, Christ for All Nations, over 73 million people have made registered decisions to follow Jesus Christ. To be recognized and honored by the Christian community for this service is an honor for which we give the glory to God,” a Christ for All Nations spokeswoman told CP.

Bonnke founded Christ for All Nations, which has offices in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, South Africa, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada and Germany. Since its founding 35 years ago, the organization has documented over 55 million people who’ve chosen to give their lives to Jesus Christ as of 2000.

Bonnke’s decision to serve the world, particularly Africa, came while he was still a boy in Germany. He gave his life to Christ at the age of 9, after being convicted about sin. One year later he felt the need to spread the Gospel in Africa. “Night after night, I saw the entire African continent, washed in the blood of Jesus, country after country,” Bonnke said, according to his bio on Christ for All Nations.

But ministry in Africa has not been without peril for Bonnke. In 1991, after he tried to hold a gathering in Kano, Nigeria, Muslim extremists burned down Christian churches and killed several Christians and forced Bonnke out of the country for nine years.

Christ for All Nations Gospel Crusade in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2014.

“‘Africa shall be saved.’ I heard God’s message so clearly. In response, my family moved from Lesotho to South Africa in 1974. But how was Africa going to be saved? Clueless, I sat with my head in my hands. As unknowns, we moved out into the unknown, with no prospects mapped out for us, hoping for further instruction from the Lord. And sure enough, God spoke again. I was to rent the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana, for a Gospel crusade,” Bonnke wrote in a piece for Ministry Today.

In 2000, he attempted to return to Nigeria but decided against visiting the northern reigion, which was primarily Muslim after the Islamic leaders known as the Council of Ulama issued death threats against him and members of his team. It wasn’t until 2001 that he finally returned at the request of elected president Olusegun Obasanjo and delivered a powerful message that led thousands to Christ.

“My full attention is on Africa,” Bonnke said at the time. “I have no message of hate. I do not attack any religion. I just preach Jesus.”

Rou Jarvis, a Southern Baptist missionary in Lagos, told Christianity Today that Bonnke was very bold with his message.

“He’s very confrontational with Islam, and that’s not good. If I’m going to win someone to Christ, I’m not going to tell them first that their faith is wrong,” said Jarvis.

Ann Buwalda, president of the Jubilee Campaign which promotes the human rights and religious liberty of ethnic and religious minorities around the world, told CP that Bonnke works much smarter now and he continues to win many souls for Christ.

“His impact has sometimes been provocative to Islamic extremist communities. I don’t think he’s been, for example, in northern Nigeria since riots were created, but outside of that, I would say that his crusades are well-known, and he has a large following of committed people who appreciate his ministry and his work throughout Africa. I am not aware in recent years that there have been any altercations surrounding his holding of crusades, so it seems to me that he is actually avoiding conflict areas,” said Buwalda.

Bonnke is often compared to famed evangelist Billy Graham for his work throughout Africa, and is described by pastor George Amu of the Good News Bible Church in Lagos as a “superstar.”

“Signs, miracles and wonders happen when he preaches,” said Amu.

Tom Osanjo, a reporter with UN-HABITAT agrees with Amu’s assessment of Bonnke.

Bonnke is “very big” in Kenya he told CP. Christ for All Nations held its last crusade in the country in 2013. And he has been a “frequent visitor to Kenya for many years. There has not been a public threat to his crusades because the anti-Christian movement among some Muslims is fairly recent,” said Osanjo, recalling various reported miracles that followed his crusades.

“Bonnke and his ministry have been known for miraculous healings and conversions. Most of his meetings see people testifying of being healed of HIV/AIDS, paralysis and all manners of sickness,” said Osanjo.

“The Bible instructs us to give honor to whom honor is due,” said William M. Wilson, president and global co-chair of Empowered21, said in a statement. “It is with great joy that we present awards to these forefathers of the Spirit-empowered movement. The collective ministries of these giants of the faith have transformed the lives of millions of people. We are deeply thankful for their legacies and invite all their friends from around the world to join us in Jerusalem to celebrate their contribution to God’s work.”

John Travolta Defends Scientology, Urges Public to ‘Read a Book’ Before Judging Organization

John Travolta (Photo: Reuters/Gus Ruelas)

Actor John Travolta arrives during the G’Day USA Black Tie Gala in Los Angeles, California, January 11, 2014.

Christian Post Report – Actor John Travolta staunchly defended the Church of Scientology and urged the public not to believe the claims made in a new HBO documentary, “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” which features both him and fellow actor Tom Cruise.

The documentary alleges the religion broke up the marriage between Cruise and Nicole Kidman and keeps Travolta under its thumb.

In an interview on “Good Morning America” Monday however, Travolta who is one of the most well-known members of the Church of Scientology said critics could do well to learn more about his religion before making comments.

“Take time and read a book,” said Travolta. “You could read ‘A New Slant on Life’, you could read Dianetics. And if you really read it, you’ll understand it. But unless you do, you’ll speculate, and I think that’s a mistake.”

The documentary is based on the best-selling book ‘Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief’ by Lawrence Wright. Director Alex Gibney worked closely with Wright on the project, which sought to reveal the inner workings of the secretive organization that counts Travolta, Cruise, as well as Kirstie Alley among its elite members.

“To put in the film the fact that they [Cruise and Travolta] are abusing the power they have by not talking about the church or not even exploring the abuses I thought was absolutely necessary,” Gibney said at a Times Talk in March. “Otherwise, you have a lot of innocent people that are tumbling into the church on that account.”

Travolta has not seen the documentary and said he has no plans to do so. He stated however that the Church of Scientology has done a lot for him and his family.

“I’ve been so happy with my experience in the last 40 years … that I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative,” he told the Tampa Bay Times “I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable, and Scientology has been so beautiful for me that I can’t even imagine attacking it. Why would I even approach a negative perspective? That would be a crime to me, personally, to do that.”

One of those storms he said the church helped him through was the death of his 16-year-old son Jett in 2009.

“My family has done so well with it,” he said of the church. “It’s been a beautiful thing for me. I’ve saved lives with it and saved my own life several times. Through the loss of my son, it helped me every step of the way for two years solid, and here I am.”

Billy Graham: God Says ‘No’ to Prayer Requests to Protect His Children From ‘Harm’

Billy Graham (Photo: BGEA)

In one of his recently syndicated “My Answer” question-and-answer columns, world-renowned evangelist Billy Graham was asked why God sometimes says “no” to certain prayer requests even though He loves all of His children.

Christian Post Report – “Dear Billy Graham: I know God sometimes says ‘no’ when we ask for something in our prayers. But if He really loved us, wouldn’t He always answer our prayers with a ‘yes’?” the letter from a woman identified only by her initials of G.H. asked.

The 96-year-old Graham, the founder of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, compared God and His denial of certain prayer requests to a parent who says ‘no’ when their kids ask if they are allowed do something that is unsafe.

“Let me assure you that God does love us, and precisely because He loves us, He sometimes says ‘no’ to what we request in our prayers,” Graham wrote. “Let me explain it this way. Elsewhere in your letter, you mention that you and your husband have two children. Do you give them everything they ask for? Or if they want to do something you know is dangerous, do you let them do it anyway?”

“No, of course not, and the reason is because you love them and don’t want anything bad to happen to them,” Graham continued. “Part of your responsibility as a parent is to protect your children from harm even if it sometimes means saying ‘no.'”

Graham further explained that God is much like a protective mother or father and wants to keep His children away from harm. Although a person might not see the consequences of His desires while praying, God is all-knowing when it comes to what is best for His children, Graham stated.

“In a much greater way, God loves us and knows what is best for us — far more than we do. And because He wants to keep us from harm, He sometimes says ‘no,'” Graham asserted. “As I look back over my life, I know God sometimes said ‘no’ to things I asked him to do, and to be honest, I often was disappointed. … But later I realized God knew what He was doing, and by saying ‘no,’ He had kept me from harm.”

Graham tackled a similar question in one of his “My Answer” columns published around the end of March. He explained that when God has said no to a prayer request, the person should stop asking God to make that request a reality.

“But sometimes God answers our prayer with a definite no, and when that’s the case we shouldn’t keep begging him or demanding He give us a yes,” Graham stated. “How can you know if God has said no to your prayer? Begin by asking yourself why you’ve prayed this prayer. Are you honestly seeking God’s will in this situation, or are you only concerned about yourself and what will please you?”

“God hasn’t promised to answer every prayer we make,” Graham added. “He has promised only to answer those that are in line with His will. The Bible says, ‘This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us’ (1 John 5:14).”

Graham also wrote that prayer is “one of our greatest privileges,” but that doesn’t mean that it opens the door for God to fulfill everyone’s earthly requests.

“Prayer is one of our greatest privileges, and it’s possible because Jesus Christ has opened heaven’s door for us through His death and resurrection. But prayer isn’t just asking God to do anything we want,” Graham argued. “Begin by committing your life to Christ. Then make it your goal to seek His will in your prayers.”

Monaco vs Juventus Live Stream: Watch UEFA Champions League Soccer Online

Pirlo REUTERS/GIORGIO PEROTTINO

Christian Post Report – Andrea Pirlo of Juventus.

Juventus will try to complete the job against Monaco when they meet at Stade Louis II for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final match. The battle is on April 22, 2015 at 2:45 p.m. ET.

With a win in the first leg, Juventus have a huge advantage heading into the next round but are by no means assured of a place in the semi-finals. However, they are one step closer after their 1-0 triumph at Juventus Stadium.

Arturo Vidal’s penalty shot in the 57th minute proved to be the deciding factor in the first meeting and will play an important role in the return leg.

In their first meeting, Juventus proved to be the better team, controlling 60 percent of the possession while firing off 12 total shots. They also committed less fouls as they were only warned seven times as compared to 14 from Monaco.

The Ligue 1 club won the corner battle as they had seven while Juventus only had six.

Monaco were also able to fire 14 total shots, five of which were on target, but failed to convert them to goals.

They now have their backs against the wall as they play as hosts in the second leg, and they should be able to convert these attempts to goals if they wish to move on in the competition.

As far as form is concerned, Juventus hold a big lead atop the Serie A table as they are set to win yet another league title. They have only lost once in their last nine matches across all competitions and have only lost twice in their last 22.

Meanwhile, Monaco are third in France and are holding on to the qualifying spot for the Champions League next year. They have also only lost once in their last six matches in all competitions, but have drawn three of them as well.

Christian Post Report – Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard (L) is congratulated by teammate Jakub Kindl after the Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks during Game 2 of their NHL Western Conference semi-final playoff hockey game in Chicago, Illinois, May 18, 2013.

With the series tied at 1-1, the scene shifts to the Joe Louis Arena where the Detroit Red Wings host the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the NHL Eastern Conference playoffs. The match is on April 21, 2015 at 7 p.m. ET.

Detroit surprisingly won the first game behind an impressive performance from veteran Pavel Datsyuk. He scored early in the first period and in only eight seconds at the start of the second.

Detroit were extremely efficient during the match as they scored three goals despite only taking 14 shots on goal.

Tampa Bay had 46 shots on goal, but only beat Petr Mrazek twice as Detroit’s defense stood tall in the surprise victory.

With that victory, Detroit took home advantage despite many expecting Tampa Bay to dominate early in the series.

However, the hosts were able to regroup and rebound in Game 2.

Needing to adjust in order to get back in the series, Tampa Bay scored early behind a power-play goal from Tyler Johnson.

From there, they would not let go of the throttle as they went on to score three big goals in the second period with the goals coming from Alex Killorn, Andrej Sustr and Johnson.

Detroit were able to pull one back from a goal by Tomas Tatar in the 46th minute, but it was easily the night for the Lightning as things were wrapped up by Valtteri Filppula’s goal in the 56th.

Much like the first game, Tampa Bay dominated the shots, leading 30-24 after 60 minutes and this time they made sure that they were able to convert the attempts to goals. Detroit even changed goalkeepers but made no difference as Mrazek allowed four goals, while veteran Jimmy Howard saved 11 of 12 attempts.

As the game now goes to Michigan, expect Detroit to try and use the home crowd to their advantage, while Tampa Bay will look to inflict the same damage they did in Game 2.

Police Deny Slain Pakistani Christian Boy Recorded Statement Saying He Was Burned for His Faith; Video Reveals His Testimony Was Given (Watch)

Nouman Masih (Photo: British Pakistani Christian Association)

Nouman Masih died on April 15, 2015, due to burns suffered from an attack by two Mulsim men five days prior.

Christian Post Report – Pakistani police officials are denying that Nouman Masih, the 15-year-old Lahore Christian boy who died last week after being burned for his faith, ever provided testimony indicating that he was attacked by two Muslim men, even though legal advocates can attest to the fact that he did provide police with such a statement.

According to the Pakistani news website Dawn.com, police in Lahore are saying that they never recorded a statement from Masih on how he suffered substantial burn wounds that covered 55 percent of his entire body, which ultimately led to his death five days later.

Acting Deputy Inspector General Rana Ayaz Saleem, head of the Lahore Police Investigation Department, told Dawn that no statement from Masih was ever recorded, and added that no religious motive in the attack was yet determined, even though Masih reiterated multiple times before his death that he was attacked for his faith.

“No dying declaration/statement was recorded by police due to the life-threatening condition of the boy,” Saleem stated.

As The Christian Post reported previously, prominent Pakistani human rights lawyer Sardar Mushtaq Gill was in the room with Masih during the time that he provided a police officer with his testimony.

Gill explained in an interview with CP last Wednesday that Masih explicitly told a police officer that he was on his way to the tailoring shop where he was an apprentice when he was approached by two Muslim men who were on their way to Muslim prayers.

The two men stopped Masih and asked him if he was a Christian or Muslim. When the boy answered that he was a Christian, the men attacked him, chased him down and set him on fire.

“When he was on his way, two unknown men stopped him and inquired: ‘What is your religion? Are you Christian or Muslim?’ When he said, ‘I am Christian,’ they beat him and he tried to save himself. Unfortunately, they chased him and then catch him and get kerosene all on him and set on fire,” Gill explained.

“This is the incident and these are all the facts. He, himself, told this to senior police officer and a number of people recorded his statement and I also heard the same words from his mouth.”

Gill was not the only lawyer in the room with Masih when he gave his testimony to the police officer. Attorney Aneeqa Maria Akhtar from The Voice Society told Morningstar News that she was also in the room when Masih told the officer that he was attacked by Muslim men for his faith.

Akhtar added that when people wanted to speak with Masih, they were supervised and not allowed to ask Masih who burned him.

“This is the first time I have seen secret agencies ‘guarding’ a burn victim,” she said. “They were keeping record of all people who were coming to visit the child. Whenever I tried approaching him, a person in civilian dress would stand next to the bed. They said they were just doing their job.”

As tensions between the Christian and Muslim communities in Lahore continue to escalate — following the Youhanabad lynchings of two Muslim men who were thought to be involved in the March 15 bombing of two churches — Pakistani media have reported the baseless claim that Masih was burned by his own Christian uncle. The Pakistani media’s claim is contrary to the fact that Masih stated that he did not recognize his attackers.

Masih’s 22-year-old sister, Saba Masih, decried the claim that their paternal uncle, Nadeem Masih, set Nouman on fire in an interview with Morningstar News. She added that her uncle loved her and her brother as if they were his own children.

“Uncle Nadeem and his wife raised us just like their own children,” she said. “It was only after this incident that most of our neighbors had come to know that they weren’t our real parents.”

Saba Masih further explained that her uncle was first accused by her mother and maternal grandfather as a ploy to seize the property and pension of their dead father.

Gill also told CP that the claims that Masih’s uncle set him on fire are completely false.

“They say that there is a dispute with his uncle from maternal side family because Nouman’s father died two or three years before and his mother got married with someone other. But now, Pakistani media is saying that it might be his uncle set him on fire, which is totally false and wrong,” Gill asserted. “Why would his uncle, who is his guardian, who look after his two children do something [this horrible]?”

Nouman also provided his testimony in a video interview with a British Pakistani Christian Association officer. Masih’s testimony can be seen and a translation can be read, as the video of the BPCA interview was posted to YouTube by BPCA Chairman Wilson Chowdhry last week.

“I was travelling to overlook some shirts at the stitching shop and on my way back two boys surrounded me on bikes and stopped me. One was wearing shalwar kameez and the other was wearing western trousers and a shirt. I was hurrying to the shop as the Master Tailor told me to come back quickly. Both the motorcyclists had their faces covered. They started abusing and asked me who I was and where I was going during the Muslim prayer time?” Masih explained in the BPCA interview. “I said I am Christian and they abused me further. They slapped me four times on my face then one of them threw kerosene oil over me and the other threw a match stick at me. They then rode away. There were heaps of sand nearby and I lay on them to put the fire out.”

Chicago Blackhawks vs Nashville Predators Live Stream Free, Start Time: Watch Online NHL Hockey 2015

Blackhawks Frank Polich/Reuters / National Post

Christian Post Report – The Chicago Blackhawks celebrate after scoring a goal.

With a chance to edge closer to the next round, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Nashville Predators at the United Center in Game 4 of the NHL Western Conference playoffs. The match is on April 21, 2015 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Chicago are playing like the Western powerhouse they have been known to be in the past years as they have clawed their way to a 2-1 series lead.

They opened the series with a big 4-3 overtime win at Nashville where they were down 3-0 at one point in the contest before roaring back to get the victory.

Despite being thrashed in the first period, the successful comeback from Chicago was anchored by their reserve goalkeeper Scott Darling. The American came on to replace Corey Crawford between the posts after the Canadian allowed three goals in the first period. Darling was phenomenal as he stopped the next 42 attempts by the Predators which included seven power-play shots.

Nashville rebounded in the second game and Craig Smith came up big as he scored two goals and assisted on their opener as they beat the Blackhawks 6-2. Five different players scored for Nashville as they dominated Crawford again between the posts. Nashville also restricted Chicago to only 26 shots on goal as they forced 35 of their own to tie the series at 1-1.

When the scene shifted to Illinois, Chicago started well with an opener from Andrew Desjardins. However, Mike Ribeiro leveled the score in less than a minute to keep the score level after the first period.

It was in the second period where the Blackhawks started to separate themselves as they converted three goals to grab the game by the throat and lead 4-2. Their defense held up in the third to prohibit any comeback from the Predators as they went on to take a 2-1 series lead.

With a Chicago win, they would only need one more to advance to the next round. As for Nashville, an important road win will help regain home advantage in this intense series.

Jessa Duggar Pregnant? ’19 Kids and Counting’ Star Shopping for Maternity Clothes?

Christian Post Report – Is Jessa Duggar pregnant?

Less than two weeks after her sister, Jill, welcomed her first child, rumors are swirling that Jessa is pregnant by her husband Ben Seewald after the couple posted a series of new photos on Instagram and were spotted shopping in the maternity section of a local store.

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald Instagram/ ben_seewald

Pregnancy rumors sparked when Ben Seewald posted this photo of him covering his wife Jessa Duggar’s stomach with his cowboy hat on Instagram.

The “19 Kids and Counting” star and Ben sparked rumors of a baby back in March when a photo was leaked showing the 19-year-old lovingly cradling his wife’s stomach. The photo, which surfaced on Facebook, depicts Jessa and Ben forming a heart shape with their hands over Jessa’s stomach — a classic maternity shoot pose.

On April 12, country star Mark Wills shared a photo of him with Jessa at the Grand Ole Opry that appeared to show the beginnings of a baby bump.

Speculation only grew this week when Ben posted another photo of the couple on April 13, and the shot showed Ben holding a cowboy hat strategically in front of Jessa’s belly.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user recently claimed to have spotted the 22-year-old shopping in the maternity section of a local Ross store.

Twitter user Jayci Goss posted on April 3, “Here’s your scoop for today: I just saw Jessa Duggar looking at the maternity and juniors sections at the Ross in Rogers.”

Moreover, promo clips for next Tuesday night’s episode of the family’s hit TLC show are hinting that Ben and Jessa are ready to share “some special news.” Many are speculating that a baby announcement from the couple won’t be long now.

Jessa and Ben have only been married less than six months, but they have spoken often about being eager to start a family, which will not only include biological children, but adopted children as well.

“We hope to adopt a lot of kids,” Jessa told People Magazine. “If God blesses us with biological kids of our own, it’s not going to quench our desire to adopt.”
