Robert H. Schuller Laid to Rest in Public Memorial at Former Crystal Cathedral

Churchgoers line up outside the Crystal Cathedral megachurch for Sunday church service in Garden Grove, California, March 18, 2012. The mega-church has been undergoing a crisis of leadership succession and financial problems.

Christian Post Report – The Rev. Robert H. Schuller, founder of Crystal Cathedral and “Hour of Power,” is being laid to rest on Monday at a public memorial held outside the glass-walled megachurch in Garden Grove, California.

The Associated Press reported that a private burial will follow the public memorial service, held at the campus of what was formerly the Crystal Cathedral but is now owned by the county’s Roman Catholic diocese.

In a Facebook message on Monday, the televangelist’s grandson, Bobby Schuller, wrote: “For those who are clothed in Christ, dying feels more like waking up than falling asleep.”

Schuller died at the age of 88 on April 2, after a years-long battle with esophageal cancer.

Bobby Schuller, who is now hosting the “Hour of Power” program and serves as lead pastor at Shepherd’s Grove, the home of the Crystal Cathedral congregation, said in a statement following his grandfather’s passing: “I have the incredible honor of carrying on my grandfather’s legacy by teaching people that they are not what they do, not what they have, and not what people say about them. They are the beloved of God,” he said.

“This message is going to millions around the world as we carry on the work my grandparents and parents began exactly 60 years ago. The Hour of Power team is dedicated to keeping Schuller’s legacy alive by providing our messages, old and new, to those who need to hear them most.”

Crystal Cathedral was founded in 1951 by Schuller and his wife, Arvella. In 1970 Schuller founded the “Hour of Power” program, which increased his popularity around the world, reaching close to 20 million people in 180 different countries during its peak in the 1990s.

The glass-paned church found itself straddled with debt by 2010, however, and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, owing more than $7 million to its creditors.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange bought the megachurch for $57.5 million and renamed it Christ Cathedral, and is still working on reconstructing its design.

Schuller’s son, the Rev. Robert A. Schuller, recalled some fond memories of his father in an article for City News Service on Monday, including their shared passion for fishing.

“We traveled the world together, looking for big fish, and we did quite well doing that,” Schuller said. “When I went away to college we had a competition for the biggest fish. It bounced back and forth.”

As for the decision to hold his father’s funeral at the former Crystal Cathedral, Schuller said it was an appropriate choice.

“It’s the only place to have it,” he said.

‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ Spoilers: Original Character Dies?

Star Wars Episode 7 Youtube/file

Christian Post Report – A scene from the original Star Wars movie

As the long-awaited film nears its December release date, fans are surely feeling the force with some speculating and spreading rumors about the film’s storyline.

In a report published by Making Star Wars, the film will be the last appearance of Harrison Ford as his character Han Solo would be killed by the Sith Lord Kylo Renn. The film would have a scene where Solo confronts Renn was already shot at Berkshire’s Pinewood Studios. The website states that the confrontation ended with the villain who “silences the conversation forever.” The scene was followed by a very emotional Chewbacca who, “lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts.” The report ends stating that Han Solo was never in any scene afterwards.

“This is verified as having been shot at Pinewood. These are the scenes and the documented players in them. The information is very accurate and very broad. It isn’t from the script,” the report continued.

The film’s director, J.J. Abrams, shared with BBC News his sentiments about the spoilers and “leaks” circulating the web.

“We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn’t always work,” the director said. “There are a ton of rumors – some true, some false. But I’m grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie. I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself.”

There is a big possibility of the plot being true, especially when the 71-year old Ford figured into an accident early in the production. It is highly likely that he will not come back to reprise his role in the upcoming “Star Wars’ films.

“I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom…George [Lucas] didn’t think there was any future in dead Han toys,” Ford said in 2010.

“Star Wars Episode VII” has a release date of December 18, 2015.

Winnipeg Jets vs Anaheim Ducks Live Stream: Watch Online NHL Playoffs 2015

Christian Post Report – Anaheim Ducks right wing Emerson Etem (65) celebrates his first period goal against the Detroit Red Wings as a young hockey fan cheers during Game 7 of their NHL Western Conference quarterfinal hockey playoff in Anaheim, California May 12, 2013.

Already with the series lead, the Anaheim Ducks will look to continue their dominance over the Winnipeg Jets when they meet at MTS Centre for Game 3 of their Western Conference match-up. The match is on April 20, 2015 at 9 p.m. ET.

After finishing the regular season as the top team in the Pacific Division, the Ducks were assigned to face Wild Card team Winnipeg in the first round. Many saw the series as an intriguing match-up between the two squads but so far Anaheim have proven they are in a different level.

In the Game 1 victory, the Ducks were anchored by Corey Perry as he scored twice and assisted on the other two goals in the 4-2 win. Winnipeg held the lead at one point after scoring once in each of the first two periods for a 2-1 lead, but the Ducks completed an impressive comeback in the third.

Perry scored a power-play goal in only the first minute and 10 seconds of the third period, then gave the Ducks the lead with a short-handed goal. Ryan Getzlaf finished off the job in the 57th with another power-play goal as the crowd of more than 17,000 cheered them on.

In the second game, things slowed down a bit and the Jets took the lead in the second period behind an Adam Pardy goal. Things were looking up for the Jets until the last 10 minutes of the game when a deflected shot went in off of Patrick Maroon to level the score. Then with only 20 seconds left in the game, Jakob Silfverberg beat the Winnipeg defense to score the game’s winning goal and eventually give Anaheim the 2-0 series lead.

With the next two games in Winnipeg, the Jets need to find ways to get a win to lift them up of the hole they find themselves in.

As for the Ducks, a win away from home could all but secure their place in the next round.

Minnesota Wild vs St. Louis Blues Live Stream: Watch Online NHL Playoffs 2015

NHL NHL

Christian Post Report – The NHL is looking to expand has Las Vegas in its sights

With the series tied 1-1, the scene shifts to Xcel Energy Center as the Minnesota Wild host the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 of their Western Conference match-up. The game is on April 20, 2015 at 8 p.m. ET.

Despite coming on to the playoffs through the Wild Card places, Minnesota surprised everybody when they opened their post-season campaign with a win against the Central Division’s top team in St. Louis.

Minnesota dominated the game by attempting 29 shots on goal against St. Louis’ 21. The visitors also set the pace early as Jason Zucker scored early in the third minute of the first period. The lead was doubled in the second behind a power-play goal by Matt Dumba in the 25th minute. In the third, the two teams traded two goals each, but it did little to change the outcome as Minnesota took an early series lead after a 4-2 win.

St. Louis adjusted when they met for the second game, and Vladimir Tarasenko seemed like he was focused on getting the Blues a much-needed win at home. He scored in the 14th minute of the game to give St. Louis the lead, then doubling his tally in the 19th with a power-play goal to end the period leading 2-0. Minnesota cut the lead in half in the opening moments of the third period, but they could not muster any more goals as St. Louis scored two more, including Tarasenko’s goal on an empty net to complete his hat trick.

Now with the series tied at 1-1, the all-important Game 3 should help sway things into the favor of the winner.

A win for St. Louis brings back home advantage, while Minnesota will want to start things off right as they play as hosts.

Star Wars Battlefront Release Date Rumors, News: Gameplay Trailer Revealed; Assistant Producer Confirms No Battlelog for Upcoming Game

Star Wars Battlefront 3 YouTube/Image

Christian Post Report – Screengrab from the Star Wars Battlefront 3 teaser by DICE, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts

The hype is getting more intense for the third/first-person shooter video game from Pandemic Studios, “Star Wars: Battlefront” as news of gameplay footage surfaced. Meanwhile, an insider confirms some important details of the game.

A report from IGN indicated that a 7-minute gameplay video of Battlefront was recently released. The report described that the demo commenced with a scene on the “forest moon of Endor with a group of rebels running through the forest.”

A skirmish between the Stormtroopers and the Rebels ensues only to be interrupted when a “gigantic AT-AT” arrives to the scene. The fight footage continues while switching between first and third-person perspectives, which meanwhile give the audience the idea of how the game can be viewed.

The publication went on to mention the appearance of Darth Vader who effortlessly deflects the remaining rebels using the Force as well as his lightsaber.

The seven minute-long gameplay clip really “feels like Star Wars” movie, according to the review.

“By putting all those iconic vehicles, weapons, and characters together, how could they not?” the site said.

Putting the footage aside, a report from PC Gamer meanwhile cited Battlefront assistant producer Jesper Nielsen shedding light into the rumors that the game would use the multiplayer portal Battlelog which was previously incorporated on Battefield 3, Battlefield 4 and even on Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

As stated by the website, this won’t be the case for Star Wars: Battlefront.

“That article is based on the fact that the Uprise website mentions that Uprise is working on Star Wars Battlefront. While Uprise has been doing Battlelog, does that automatically mean that we will do Battlelog for Star Wars Battlefront?” Nielsen’s statement in NeoGAF reads (via PC Gamer). “No, it won’t. That can only be an assumption, and I can tell you, no, there won’t be Battlelog for Star Wars Battlefront.”

“Star Wars: Battlefront” is slated to be released for current-gen gaming consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on PC this November 17, 2015.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Christian Post Report – Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger celebrates a goal against FSV Mainz 05 during the German Bundesliga first division soccer match in Munich September 15, 2012.

FC Porto try to complete a shocker as they visit Bayern Munich at the Allianz-Arena in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The match is on April 21, 2015 at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Many thought of the German club as the favourite to win the coveted European Cup, however Porto currently lead the tie after a big win at home.

When they played at Estadio Do Dragao, Porto surprised their opponents with their performance.

Ricardo Quaresma showed that he could still compete with the best as he converted a penalty kick in only the third minute of the game. It only took him seven minutes to score his second, giving Porto a surprise 2-0 lead early in the game.

However, Bayern were able to get one goal back as Thiago Alcantara buried a shot past Porto goalkeeper Fabiano as the first half ended 2-1. Porto completed the night with another goal from Jackson Martinez as he scored in the 65th minute to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.

As they head to Germany, they have leverage and room to breathe as they try to stop a Munich club that will surely be more aggressive as they need goals in order to move on in the competition.

Munich are known for their quality players and they are not short of talent who can put the ball behind the back of the net. Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski will still be the central figures in the attack, while a deep midfield consisting of Xabi Alonso, Mario Gotze and Thiago should cause problems on the Porto defense.

As for the visitors, they should keep at pace with Bayern and make sure that their back line will play a near perfect game. Fabiano will need all the help he will get from Danilo, Alex Sandro and Maicon if they wish to complete the upset and book their place in the semi-finals.

Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain Live Stream: Watch UEFA Champions League Soccer Online

FC Barcelona Wikimedia Commons/Image

Christian Post Report – With a place in the semi-final up for grabs, Barcelona will host Paris Saint-Germain at Camp Nou in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie. The game is on April 21, 2015 and kick-off is at 2:45 p.m. ET.

When the two teams first met in the knockout stages, PSG played as hosts at Parc des Princes but Barcelona did most of the entertaining on the pitch.

Neymar opened the scoring for the Catalans in the 18th minute after receiving the ball from Lionel Messi and eventually beating Salvatore Sirigu to get the lead. From then on it was the Luis Suarez show as the Uruguayan scored twice to put the visitors up 3-0. The only blip on an otherwise perfect game for Barcelona was an own goal from Jeremy Mathieu in the 82nd minute that prevented them from getting a clean sheet.

However, the result remains the same and PSG have an uphill battle to climb as Barcelona have been formidable when playing as hosts.

Regarding their form, Barcelona have been excellent lately, as they have not lost in their last 12 matches across all competitions. Their most recent result was a 2-0 victory over Valencia in the Spanish La Liga. They are also currently on top of the league, holding a two-point lead over Real Madrid with only six matches remaining in their domestic season.

As for PSG, they are second in the Ligue 1 despite being tied on points with Olympique Lyonnais. They are behind solely on goal difference but have a game in hand which is against Lille.

The Parisians have won five of their last six matches across all competitions, with their only loss against Barcelona.

With their backs against the wall and playing in front of a hostile crowd, PSG must try to do the impossible and overturn an aggregate deficit against Barcelona if they want to play in the semis of the Champions League.

Munn, who is a self-confessed cosplay geek, and has previously attended a number of ComicCons dressed as Wonder Woman and Princess Leia, told People.com playing Psylocke is a dream role come true.

Megachurch Preacher Creflo Dollar Says ‘There’s No Such Thing as the Prosperity Gospel;’ Says ‘Money in My Pocket … It’s God’s’

Creflo Dollar, Airplane (Photo: Screen Grab via Your World With Creflo)

Televangelist Creflo Dollar declares the money in his pocket belongs to God.

Christian Post Report – After coming under fire for asking 200,000 people to donate $300 or more each to raise $65 million to help his ministry purchase a luxury jet last month, popular televangelist Creflo Dollar, who is widely reported to be worth an estimated $27 million, has declared that “there is no such thing as the prosperity gospel” and the money in his pocket belongs to God.

“When we talk about prosperity, and people say it’s the prosperity gospel, there is no such thing as the prosperity gospel, it’s the gospel of grace. The money in my pocket is not mine, it’s God’s,” said Dollar, in a promotional clip for an episode of “Your World With Creflo” where he speaks with pastor Gregory Dickow of Life Changers International Church.

“It came from Him. He is the source behind everything we have that is good. He loves to be trusted; He loves to be the one that you lean on. He loves to be the one that you rely on and He wants to be the one that you lean on and rely on first,” continued Dollar in the clip.

The popular Atlanta, Georgia-based preacher who turned 53 in January, is recognized around the world as one of the most popular preachers of the prosperity gospel that promotes the notion that Jesus wants his followers to be wealthy. It is a controversial concept that religion scholar Reza Aslan has described as a “profoundly unscriptural” interpretation of Jesus.

“The argument of the prosperity gospel, if I can put it flippantly, is that Jesus wants you to drive a Bentley. That is basically what the argument is. That what Jesus wants for you is material prosperity, and that if you literally give, you will literally be given tenfold. That’s not a metaphor, as it is in most churches. It is literal. You give me $10 and Jesus will give you $100,” said Aslan, speaking at the 2014 Indian Summer Festival in Vancouver about his book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.

“I mean, if there is one thing that is just so clear cut and just not open to interpretation at all of any kind when it comes to Jesus’ message, it is His condemnation of wealth,” he noted.

“And yet, not only does this version of Christianity exist, as I say, it is honestly the fastest growing version of Protestant evangelical Christianity in North America. That’s because Jesus can be whatever you want Him to be, and the Christian message can be whatever you want it to be,” he added.

In his messages, Dollar condemns poverty as ungodly.

“Poverty is not the will of God for any believer. However, there are Christians who have taken a ‘vow of poverty’ because they believe that poverty is a part of being holy and righteous. This is far from the truth,” he said in an article on his website titled “Your Inheritance of Wealth and Riches.”

“Poverty has nothing to do with godliness, or God — likeness. To be poor, or impoverished, means, ‘to be without; in lack; deprived.’ You and I don’t serve a God of lack and insufficiency. He is the God of the exceeding and the abundant. In fact, He wants to lavish you with His goodness (Ephesians 3:20),” he said.
