Nigerian Schoolgirls Who Escaped From Boko Haram Offer Hope to Captives: ‘Always Believe in God, That God Is There for You’

Four Chibok girls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014 and later escaped, acting as silent witnesses during a Hudson Institute discussion on Boko Haram in Washington D.C. on March 23, 2015.

Christian Post Report – One year after Islamic terrorist organization Boko Haram raided an all-girls school in Chibok, Nigeria, and took 200 young girls captive, three of them who managed to escape are now offering hope to the remaining captives, with a message that God is there for them.

“The message is be brave and courageous,” said Deborah, one of the three escapee escapees who spoke to Al-Jazeera marking the one year anniversary of the event which drew international attention. “Be a hard worker and always believe in God, that whatever you are going through, God is there for you, He will help you. Have ambition that you are great and you were made to be a great person.”

Boko Haram, reportedly targeted the school because it was educating young women, including 163 Christians and 15 Muslims. The organization wants to establish an Islamic caliphate and return to Sharia law, often described as oppressive to women and girls.

“Chibok local government is 90 percent Christian,” Evangelist Matthew Owojaiye of the Old Time Revival Hour Church in Kaduna, told the group International Christian Concern. The “majority of the girls abducted are Christian! Why did Boko Haram visit Chibok local government? Why didn’t they visit so many other local government girls’ secondary schools in Borno State?”

The other escapees, Mary and Blessing now attend the University of Nigeria in Yola with Deborah and want to effect changes in their community.

“I want some changes in Chibok, like the environment,” Blessing told Al Jazeera. “I want to be a lawyer. I want to fight for justice.”

Mary wants to “become a medical doctor” and “to go to Chibok and build clinics and hospitals because we don’t have educated doctors there. I will try hard.”

A Nigerian woman is comforted by a man as they take part in a protest, called by Malaga’s Nigerian women Association, for the release of the abducted secondary school girls from the remote village of Chibok in Nigeria, at La Merced square in Malaga, southern Spain, May 13, 2014. The leader of the Nigerian Islamist rebel group Boko Haram has offered to release more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by his fighters last month in exchange for its members being held in detention, according to a video posted on YouTube on Monday.

Deborah also wants to go back to Chibok and help the people of her hometown, to empower them to rise up and be able to fight if necessary. Mainly, however, she wants to continue countering Boko Haram’s message of keeping women uneducated.

“It was said that if you educate a girl, you educate the whole nation,” she explained. “It is very important. They haven’t stopped me. That’s why I am going back when I graduate. The education there is very poor. So I want to help by building a school. I want to empower women by creating centers that will teach them things.”

Leaders from Boko Haram have said the missing girls have been converted to Islam and married off to locals.

“I abducted your girls,” Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video released in May and translated by CNN. “I will sell them in the market, by Allah. There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women.”

In another video released in November, Shekau asked, “Don’t you know the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls have converted to Islam? They have now memorized two chapters of the Quran. We married them off. They are in their marital homes. If you knew the state your daughters are in today, it might lead some of you … to die from grief.”

Despite efforts from local government and assistance from the United States, the girls were not located, leading to international outrage and frustration. Numerous people gathered on April 14 and 15 to remember those who have not been found and are still being held by Boko Haram, which has led a war on Nigeria’s government for over five years now and targeting Christians.

NBA MVP Race 2014-15: Westbrook, Harden, Curry Top Favorites as Season Ends

James Harden Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – Houston Rockets guard James Harden

As the season ends, the race for this year’s Most Valuable Player is as tight as ever.

Based on recent reports by ESPN, the top three contenders for the MVP award this season are the Thunder’s Russell Westbrook, the Warriors’ Steph Curry, and the Rockets’ James Harden.

In the great debate as to who deserves the MVP award, several “unofficial” criteria have emerged.

His Team’s MVP

This consideration does not only describe the player’s role on the team, but his overall worth and impact. Curry is the best player in the best team in the NBA today, but that some reports claim that even without him on the floor, Golden State can still perform well.

On the other hand, that is applicable to Harden and Westbrook, who are both carrying their respective teams on their shoulders. However, of the two superstars, Harden is doing a better job as the Rockets have already secured a spot in the Playoffs.

Even if Westbrook has a chance of getting the award as far as statistical points and votes are concerned, it would just be a lost battle if Oklahoma City fails to enter the post-season.

Is Harden this year’s MVP?

Considering the points explained earlier, James Harden could become the NBA’s best player this year. The shooting guard averages more than 27 points and almost 7 assists per game. He is also the player with the most trips to the foul line this season, and he has converted 8.8 out of 10.2 foul shots every game.

The absence of Dwight Howard for most of the season has been big for Houston, but Harden almost single-handedly carried his team to the playoffs.

Rodrigo Santoro blessed by Pope Francis in Rome on April 15, 2015.

Christian Post Report – Actor Rodrigo Santoro, who will portray Jesus Christ in the upcoming “Ben Hur” remake, recently received a special blessing from Pope Francis during a trip to Rome.

The Brazilian star and his “Ben Hur” co-star Nazanin Boniadi paid a visit to the Vatican on Wednesday during a break from filming to attend the Papal Audience. During the trip, Boniadi caught a snapshot of Santoro receiving a papal blessing.

“What a remarkable experience to witness Pope Francis bless my dear friend and co-star Rodrigo Santoro, who is playing Jesus in #BenHur. #Vatican #Rome,” the actress shared on Instagram.

Clad in all white, Pope Francis is seen reaching toward Santoro’s forehead offering his blessing to the actor. In addition to sharing the photo of her co-star and The Holy Father, Boniadi also posted a group shot taken in front of the Vatican with several others from the cast and crew of “Ben Hur,” including executive producer Roma Downey. The actress also shared her thanks to Downey for the Vatican trip.

“With Rodrigo Santoro (Jesus in #BenHur) at the #Vatican,” Boniadi wrote in the caption of a photo with her co-star. “Thanks for an incredible experience @romadowney! #Rome”

“Ben Hur,” which is expected to hit theaters on Feb. 26, 2016, follows a falsely accused nobleman Judha Ben Hur who survives years of slavery. Originally intent on vengeance against his accuser, Ben Hur eventually finds redemption. The remake of the 1959 Charlton Heston classic also stars Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Morgan Freeman, Ayelet Zurer and Sofia Black D’Elia, among many more.

Author Lew Wallace’s “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ” was also adapted to the big screen in 1925. Downey is among the executive producers on the newest film while her husband Mark Burnett and others are producing. The Timur Bakmambetov-directed film was written by Keith Clarke and John Ridley.

Bobbi Kristina Brown News: I’m ‘Giving It to God,’ Says Bobby Brown

Christian Post Report – Bobby Brown, ex-husband of the late pop singer Whitney Houston, stepped up for the first time to talk about what his family has been going through and most especially his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

A report from ABC News indicated that the 46-year-old R&B singer has made his first public appearance for a performance at the Soul Food Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday night where he spoke about his daughter’s dire condition by saying that he’s “giving it to God and letting him deal with it.”

Cissy Houston and Bobbi Kristina Brown (R) attend the opening night of ”The Houstons: On Our Own” in New York October 22, 2012.

In the midst of his performance where he sang his classic hits such as the song titled “Every Little Step I Take,” he stopped to tell to the audience how grateful he was of the event.

“I must tell you all, this feels really, really good, he said,” the singer said. “I want to thank you all for coming tonight and supporting me and my family.”

“Rough times are rough times, and hard times are hard times,” Brown continued. “I don’t know what the hell I’m going through right now but I’m giving it to God and letting him deal with it.”

The singer-songwriter is slated for an Australian tour this May.

Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious at her Georgia, Atlanta home earlier this year. The 22-year-old aspiring singer was rushed to a hospital where she was put in an induced coma.

The still unconscious Brown was recently moved to the DeKalb Medical Center in Atlanta where Bobby has reportedly told the doctors never to turn off the ventilator that keeps Kristina alive.

Cissy Houston, her grandmother from her mother’s side, told the media earlier this month that the family is “still praying” for the improvement of her condition.

[We’re] still praying. I give it to God one time, because I know he’s able,” she said. “And I cannot change a thing. I’m asking everybody: ‘Just pray to the Lord who we know CAN do something about it.'”

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Rumors, Specs: New Android Midranger’s Release Date Could Be Just Around The Corner

Xiaomi Note Youtube/ScreenGrab

Christian Post Report – Xiaomi rose to popularity in the international mobile market due to its extremely cheap smartphones that boast quality design and specs.

It was the Mi3 that has placed the Chinese manufacturer on the map, and until now the Android-powered smartphone is still selling well in countries where it is readily available.

However, Xiaomi has been taking a new route recently – one that focuses on quality and high-end specifications. The Mi Note Pro and Mi Note are testaments to that direction.

Fortunately, the China-based manufacturer is not abandoning its midrange lineup, including the Redmis that have been selling like pancakes in flash sales across the Southeast Asian region.

In a new report by GSM Arena, it seems Xiaomi is preparing the upcoming Redmi Note 2.

A successor of the successful Redmi Note launched last year, the Redmi Note 2 boasts improved specs, better design, and probably a slightly higher price tag.

In the report, the Xiaomi handset dubbed as H3Y boasts a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution screen. The leak came from @upleaks, which have been doing well in leaking upcoming smartphones to the Web.

Other alleged specs include a MediaTek MT6795 chipset and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, skinned by the manufacturer’s MIUI 6.

A Samsung-manufactured 13MP shooter banners the camera department, while there is a 5MP sensor in front to handle selfies.

The device will reportedly cost only CNY 1,500 or about $245.

Sony Xperia Z4 Rumors: Release Date of New Android Flagship Coming Soon, Phone to Launch Next Week?

Sony Xperia Z4 @yugatech/Twitter

Christian Post Report – New Sony Xperia Z4 live photos leak. YugaTech Twitter feed. April 4, 2015.

For loyal Sony fans, it has been a strange year for the Japanese manufacturer. Instead of beginning the year with a strong push in the high-end category, Sony decided to launch a few budget phones, and let consumers wait.

As a result, other Android phone makers such as Samsung, HTC and other brands have already made their moves to capture the market’s interest.

Fortunately, it looks like the Japan-based manufacturer is actually gearing for an upcoming press event.

According to a report by GSM Arena, reports from Sony’s home market hinted that it would be having a press event on Monday, April 20. While there are no assurances just yet, rumors are pointing to a new Sony Xperia Z4 flagship.

However, the report also mentioned that the Xperia smartphone that has been leaking everywhere the last few weeks might not be called Z4 at all. Instead, it could be a high-end Xperia Z3 Neo phone.

That rumor came from a Twitter post from a user that specializes in leaking stuff, as described by GSM Arena. The Xperia Z3 Neo has allegedly been confirmed already by unknown sources.

Meanwhile, Sony continues to be among the underdogs in the international Android market. A few years ago, the Japanese company stated that it would focus its handsets in Japan and EU.

There were also reports that Sony will soon pull out the plug in its mobile division and just concentrate on other electronic consumer devices.

iPhone 6 Price Gets Reduced in Russia, Apple App Store Following as Well?

iPhone 6 (Photo: Reuters/File)

Christian Post Report – A customer holds an iPhone 6 (R) and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple proved the tech industry that it can join the trend when it launched its very first iPhone phablet last year.

Now that both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus have exceeded expectations and broken sales records, the Cupertino manufacturer is trying its best to expand the adoption rate of its latest handsets.

However, the announcements of high-end Android devices this year may have slowed down Apple’s goal in terms of sales. As a result, the manufacturer has reduced the rates in one of its key markets – Russia.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have reduced their prices in the country, bringing the price down by as much as RUB5,000 for the 4.7-inch phone, and RUB8,000 for the 5.5-inch handset.

In the report, the iPhone 6 now costs RUB48,990 for the 16GB model, while the 64GB and 128GB versions are priced at RUB55,990 and RUB62,990 respectively.

On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus also had a significant price cut to its units.

The basic model (16GB) is priced at RUB55,990, the 64GB edition costs RUB62,990, and the top-end 128GB edition gets a RUB69,999 price tag.

In the report, there are also some apps from the Apple Store that have reduced prices as well. Some apps that cost RUB62 are now priced at just RUB59.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are considered the most successful iPhones in Apple history, helping the company sell 70 million iPhones during Q4 2014.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Specs: Curved Edge Device is Manufacturer’s Most Expensive Smartphone to Build

Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge YOUTUBESCREENSHOT/ Samsung Mobile

Christian Post Report – The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is the best new device at the Mobile World Congress a month ago, and there are a number of good reasons why.

First of all, it boasts not just one, but two curved edges that provide more functionality and features for its consumers.

And of course, the device packs the best specs in a Samsung smartphone, just like the Galaxy S6.

However, according to a report by GSM Arena, the Galaxy S6 Edge could be the most expensive smartphone Samsung has ever built.

In the report, the S6 Edge costs $290 to build based on its bill of materials (BOM), and that’s for the 64GB edition bound for Verizon. That price does not include expenses on software, distribution, marketing and other relevant expenses.

That makes the Galaxy S6 Edge even more expensive to build than any of the two iPhone 6 smartphones released later last year. In the report, the iPhone 6 BOM costs $247 while the iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $263.

Comparing the Galaxy S6 Edge to Samsung’s previous flagships, the Galaxy S5’s BOM costs $256, while the Galaxy S4 is priced at $244.

The GSM Arena report indicated that the most expensive part of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is its dual curved edge screen that amounts to $85 in terms of BOM.

However, it is still unknown whether the curved edges indeed provide more flexibility in user experience, or are mere gimmicks to come up with a cool-looking smartphone.

Conservative Anglicans Discuss Breaking Apart From Church of England Over Gay Marriage, Women Bishops

Church of England (Photo: Reuters/Phil Noble)

The first female bishop in the Church of England Libby Lane adjusts her hair following her consecration service at York Minster in York, northern England, January 26, 2015.

Christian Post Report – A group of conservative Anglican leaders are reportedly meeting in London to discuss forming a “parallel” church that they feel would be more true to Anglican principles on positions like women bishops and gay marriage.

The Independent reported that The Church of England is “at risk of an unprecedented schism” in light of the proposal by the Global Anglican Futures Conference, which seeks to counter what conservatives find is a liberal approach to social issues by the Church of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

In 2014 the Church of England broke from centuries of tradition when it voted in approval to allow women to become bishops, which was celebrated by top Anglican leaders. In January 2015, the Rev. Libby Lane was ordained as the Bishop of Stockport, becoming the first-ever female to hold such a high position within the Church.

The CofE, however, maintains its support for traditional marriage between one man and one woman, and has revoked clergy rights of priests who have been married to same-sex partners.

Issues have formed in certain cases, however, for example with criticism over Uganda’s anti-gay law last year, which at one point threatened repeated homosexual offenders with the death sentence.

The Anglican Church of Uganda threatened to leave the Communion due to what it saw was meddling in the affairs of its country.

“The issue here is respect for our views on homosexuality, same-sex marriage as a country and church. If they are not willing to listen to us, we shall consider being on our own,” Uganda Anglican Archbishop Stanley Ntagali said in March 2014.

Gafcon, formed in 2008, has called for an end to “secularism” in the mainstream Anglican Communion, and is believed to be thinking about ordaining new church leaders in order to defend the “essential truths of the biblical faith.”

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said back in December 2014 that he fears the Anglican Communion may experience schism because of the debates on social issues.

“I think, realistically, we’ve got to say that despite all efforts there is a possibility that we will not hold together, or not hold together for a while,” Welby said in an interview.

“I could see circumstances in which there could be people moving apart and then coming back together, depending on what else happens.”

Some Anglican conservatives, such as Andrea Williams, director of pro-gay therapy group Christian Concern, suggested that this schism within the Church might indeed become a reality if the CofE eventually drops its opposition to gay marriage.

“The Bible is clear about what marriage is and the church has not gone soft on that issue. But, if it were to, that might be the red line in the sand,” Williams said.

Latest ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Trailer Reveals Bad Guy, Major Plot Twist (VIDEO)

Terminator Genysis Trailer Screenshot YouTube/Terminator Genisys

Christian Post Report – YouTube screenshot of the Terminator Genisys trailer.

Paramount Pictures has released the latest trailer for “Terminator: Genisys,” revealing the movie bad guy and featuring a surprising plot twist.

In an unexpected plot twist that completely departed from the franchise’s storyline, the second trailer for “Terminator: Genisys” was recently released showing audiences the main antagonist of the film and as well as an unforeseen plot twist.

In what entertainment websites are calling a major spoiler for the film, the trailer reveals the unanticipated villain of the film, changing everything audiences believe to be true about the “Terminator” universe.

The trailer, which opens up with the universally known storyline of John Connor (Jason Clarke), sending his trusted lieutenant Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to save his mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke), who is in danger of being assassinated by a cyborg sent by Skynet from the future to cut off the Resistance at its source before it has began.

Some surprising changes include Sarah Connor saving Kyle Reese from the T-1000 (Lee Byung-hun) instead of the other way around. In the new trailer, Connor tells Reese she has been expecting him for a decade, and introduces him to The Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), an older T-800 model.

Apparently, the young Sarah Connor was orphaned as a child by an earlier T-800 sent to kill her, and she is raised by The Guardian, another T-800 programmed to keep her safe.

The unexpected twist is revealed when John Connor appears in his mother’s present, revealing himself to be a powerful cyborg after having been compromised by Skynet and sent out with the goal to kill his own mother.

Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, and The Guardian face a brutal battle to defeat John Connor, and to prevent the occurrence of Judgment Day.

“Terminator: Genisys” is due out in theaters July 1 and also stars Oscar winner, J.K. Simmons, Courtney B. Vance, and Sandrine Holt.
