DC’s Animated ‘Justice League’ Movie Shows a ‘Darker Side’ of Superman and Batman

Justice League: Gods and Monsters YouTube/File

Christian Post Report – A screenshot of the Justice League: Gods and Monsters trailer.

When DC announced in September 2014 that it was working on a new animated short series and animated feature of the “Justice League,” they did say that it will not be based on the storyline of the original 2001 comic book, but will instead be based on an original narrative to be written by Alan Burnett of “The Batman Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond.”

Bruce Timm returns as executive producer for the series and the feature film. He is said to have contributed a lot in character development and the story, according to Screen Rant. Timm is known for his work in creating and building “the modern DC animated universe and franchise.”

The recently released trailer for new “Justice League” shows an entirely different take on the heroic trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. Another Screen Rant report describes it as portraying “a darker animated DC Universe,” with the heroes not only sporting different costumes, but also having different personalities.

Superman here is apparently a son of General Zod and is shown to be more violent and quick-tempered. Batman is not Bruce Wayne but Kirk Langstrom, who becomes a pseudo-vampire because of the bat venom that he used to try and cure his cancer. He now feeds on the blood of criminals in order to live. Wonder Woman is no longer an Amazon, but is the wife of Orion and is one of the New Gods. In the film and in the series, they still form the Justice League that is being persecuted for allegedly causing the massacre of a group of scientists.

The animated series entitled “Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles,” which will comprise of three parts, will be shown on Machinima within the second quarter of 2015. The animated feature will be released direct to video soon after the series.

Is There a Chance that Microsoft Will Go Open Source?

Microsoft Corporation Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – General view of Microsoft Corporation new headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux, near Paris

While some skeptics may say it’s impossible, a Chief Technical Officer of Microsoft’s Azure Cloud platform told the audience at annual developer conference ChefConf that going open source is “definitely possible.”

CTO Mark Russinovich admitted that “the future of Windows could be as open source software.” His declaration apparently got a huge round of applause from the audience. He also reiterated that this was possible because “it’s a new Microsoft.”

This “new Microsoft” is currently helmed by Satya Nadella, who came in only in February 2014. And some industry observers are saying that he is already making waves and big changes in barely two years of being CEO.

Before this declaration about its open sourcing its main software, Windows, the company has already started moving towards open source. According to a report in Computer World, it had already open-sourced its .NET framework for developers and have opened its Azure cloud computing services to Linux, which was unthinkable several years ago.

The Computer World report also presented a view from the outside of Microsoft. Rob Enderle, Principal Analyst of the Enderle Group, a technology advisory firm, said that open source is no longer as big a threat as it was during his generation of executives. In fact, executives now consider it an asset more than a threat. He also cited that in today’s mobile world where Android is ubiquitous, Microsoft needs to consider open source if it wants Windows to compete with Android.

Other moves that the company has made recently that point to the open source possibility is its making Windows free to small form factor devices. According to the report, this may be where Microsoft will start its open source initiative for Windows. The report was citing an interview with Al Gillen of IDC.

Gillen also noted that while this may not happen in the next five years, he says it is possible for Microsoft to shift its source of revenues from selling licenses to providing computing services, which it has already began to develop, such as OneDrive, Bing, Office365 among others.

NBA News 2015: James Harden, Russell Westbrook Leading MVP Talks, What About Steph Curry?

Russell Westbrook Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook

With only a few more games to go before the end of the season, NBA fans and experts have talked about the race for the MVP award more than ever.

Currently, the top two players who are reportedly being considered for the award include Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and James Harden of the Houston Rockets.

Looking at both of these players’ stat lines, it will be really close.

Harden currently averages 27.7 points, 6.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals a game – all of which are career-bests for the shooting guard. As a result, the Rockets are currently the second seed in the Western Conference, behind the league-leading Golden State Warriors.

Houston’s success has been mainly attributed to Harden, who carried the team during the last couple of months when star center Dwight Howard was recovering from an injury.

On the other hand, Westbrook has been wrecking havoc in the Thunder’s most recent games, especially during March. The superstar point guard posted a string of triple-doubles to give OKC a fighting chance to land the final playoff spot.

In the season, Westbrook averages 27.7 points as well, but does a little more on the rebounding (7.3), assists (8.7) and steals (2.1) departments. Like Harden, the 26-year-old Thunder point guard is having a career season as well.

A lot of sports experts and fans are worried that Westbrook’s efforts may go to waste if OKC fails to make it to the playoffs. One reason why the Thunder has been inconsistent all season long is due to the injury to reigning MVP Kevin Durant.

Another player who is definitely in the MVP conversation is Steph Curry, who leads the Golden State Warriors in points and assists. However, some reports point out that Curry’s value in his team is not as crucial compared to Harden and Westbrook and their respective teams.

Scholar Paul Marshall: Al-Shabaab’s Religious Ideology Similar to ISIS; Brutality Natural Direction, Not Only Due to Competition

Senior Al Shabaab officer Mohamed Mohamud alias Sheik Dulayadayn addresses a news conference during clashes between Ismalist fighting and Somali government in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu this file picture taken on January 1, 2011. The death toll in an assault by Somali militants on a Kenyan university is likely to climb above 147, a government source and media said on April 3, 2015, as anger grew among local residents over what they say was a government failure to prevent bloodshed. Within hours of the attack, Kenya put up a 20 million shillings (5,000) reward for the arrest of Mohamed Mohamud, a former Garissa teacher labeled “Most Wanted” in a government poster and linked by Kenyan media to two separate al Shabaab attacks in the neighboring Mandera region last year.

Christian Post Report – The Somali terror group al-Shabaab, which killed nearly 150 students in a targeted attack on Christians at Kenya’s Garissa University College last week, is rooted in a religious ideology and is not too different from the Islamic State in its ambition, said religious freedom scholar Paul Marshall of Hudson Institute in an interview.

Terrorist groups, including al-Shabaab, follow different kinds of interpretations of the Quran, “but they are similar to the Wahhabi school in Saudi Arabia,” Marshall, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom in Washington, D.C., told The Christian Post.

Asked about the al-Qaeda-affiliated group’s ambitions outside of Somalia, Marshall said its attacks in Kenya are partly in revenge for Kenyan troops fighting its militants in Somalia, “but its ambition goes far beyond that.”

“Its ideology is a religious one, as is shown by its singling out of Christians for killing – not for the first time,” added the author of Silenced: How Apostasy and Blasphemy Codes Are Choking. “It wants to gain control of Somalia, but if successful in that, it will seek to expand control to its neighbors—parallel to ISIS.”

Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL, is an offshoot of al-Qaeda and wants to establish a caliphate in the Levant region and beyond. It has gained control over large swathes of territories in Syria and Iraq.

A gunmen from al-Shabaab told students during last week’s attack in Garissa that they were “here to make your Easter holidays better” and warned of further attacks to come, according to The Telegraph.

“If you were a Christian you were shot on the spot,” Collins Wetangula, the vice chairman of the student union at Garissa, told FOX News.

It is estimated that al-Shabaab killed at least 400 people and injured over 1,000 in more than 100 attacks between 2011 – when Kenya sent its troops to Somalia – and 2014. On Sept. 21, 2013, al-Shabaab attacked Nairobi’s Westgate Mall, leaving at least 68 dead and 175 wounded.

Asked if relatively smaller terror groups like al-Shabaab in Somalia and Boko Haram in Nigeria have become more brutal because they are competing with ISIS to remain relevant to their supporters, Marshall said competition with ISIS is a factor “but its (al-Shabaab’s) ideology would lead it in this direction anyway, especially as it has suffered defeats in Somalia itself where it has tried to act in a more military fashion.”

Governments and groups from around the world condemned al-Shabaab’s attack on Christian students in Garissa last Thursday. Pictures of students lying in a pool of blood at the site of the attack where they had gone to pray went viral on social media and people expressed their anger against terror groups.

However, the number of youth from Western nations joining groups like ISIS is growing. ISIS is believed to have hundreds of foreign fighters, including those from the United States and Europe.

Asked to explain this phenomenon, Marshall said, “For a young Muslim, feeling uprooted in the West, a group claiming to represent ‘true Islam’ and to provide exciting prospects can be a draw.” It’s not the poor that are drawn to ISIS but “the dislocated, the alienated,” added Marshall, author and editor of more than 20 books on religion and politics. “There are similar draws to gang warfare or soccer hooliganism,” he said, quoting Christopher Caldwell, senior editor at The Weekly Standard, who suggests that much of the draw is not to Islam but to “team Islam” – our team.

The United States gives millions of dollars in military and financial aid to Kenya and Nigeria to help fight terrorism, and an international coalition, led by Washington, has been launching airstrikes on ISIS bases in Syria and Iraq.

World leaders need to provide military, anti-terrorist and security training – with a human rights component – and support, Marshall said. But not just that, the world also needs to ensure that there is “economic development and exposure to alternative Muslim teaching” in terrorism-torn nations and regions, he added.

21:O3 Debuts at No.1 on Billboard’s Gospel Album Chart

21:O3 (Photo: 21:O3)

(L-R) Torrence Greene and Evin Martin of 21:O3.

Christian Post Report – The gospel music duo 21:O3 may have named their latest EP Outsiders, but they are proving that they belong on the gospel music scene with their latest project rising to the top of Billboard’s Gospel Album chart.

After releasing their EP, Outsiders late last month 21:O3 members Evin Martin, 30, and Torrence Greene, 27, have debuted at number one. The pair seemed elated to accomplish the feat, and took to social media to glorify God and thank their fans and the team that contributed to their strong debut.

“Ahhh we are sooo excited, elated and thankful to all of you #Outsiders who purchased the album!!! To God be the Glory,” the group’s Instagram page reads. “Thank you for your tireless efforts and your PUSH. @greenelights @evinamiri it’s been a journey. I wish I could say ‘you don’t know how hard we worked.”

They went on to write, “BUT you do #Outsiders. You’ve seen our grind, work ethic and passion for Christ.”

When 21:O3 spoke to The Christian Post earlier this year, they spoke about the importance of their new project. Aside from hearing Evin and Torrence refine their sound and exercising their songwriting, fans of the group will notice another major difference on the album … one member is missing. Since 21:O3 was introduced as a trio, group member Jor’el Quinn has moved on.

However, they insisted that their sound is stronger than ever, and they have a renewed sense of confidence that goes along with it.

“Before there was always a little trepidation because we were looking for the saints to accept us. Like, ‘please like us and what we have,'” Evin admitted to The Christian Post. “Now we’re just comfortable being outsiders. This is our sound, we don’t sound like anybody else, and we’re ok with that.”

‘Doctor Who’ News, Update: Steven Moffat Says Show Could Last 5 More Years

Steven Moffat Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – Steven Moffat accepted a 2014 Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries for the Season 3 finale of “Sherlock.”

Series creator and writer, Steven Moffat, recently spoke with Doctor Who magazine to inform fans that the hit BBC science-fiction, fantasy TV series “Doctor Who” will remain in the small screen for at least another five years.

Moffat, who is also behind the Benedict Cumberbatch-led “Sherlock” series, admits he didn’t expect for the Time-Lord lore to last for a decade.

“I thought it would last 10 years,” Moffat told The Hollywood Reporter. “I didn’t think it would last 10 years with BBC Worldwide trying to get me in a room to talk about their plan for the next five years!”

“It’s going to do a minimum of 15. I mean, it could do 26!” he continued.

Moffat, however, recognizes the challenge of keeping the show afloat.

“There’s nothing easy about doing Doctor Who,” Moffat said. “That’s not to say it’s easy. It’s not easy to find new people. It’s not easy to find new Doctors.”

Regardless of what’s coming up ahead, showrunner remains grateful for the popularity his show has enjoyed for years.

“10 years on, our ratings are pretty much the same. Actually, internationally, bigger. No show does that! You’re meant to go down! Doctor Who just stays. It’s extraordinary!” Moffat said.

Meanwhile, a report from Digital Spy U.K. cited a separate interview of Moffat ruling out the rumors of a “Doctor Who” film.

“I don’t think there is one. No one has ever squared the circle on that. How do we do this? How do we do it without leaching from the television series – which we’re not allowed to do, because Doctor Who is public funded?” he clarified.

However, given the possibility of such notion, he said it should really blow the minds of fans.

“We’re talking one of the biggest TV shows in the world. It can’t just be a medium-size movie – it’s gotta be a colossal movie,” he added.

“Doctor Who” Series 9 is slated to return to BBC One this year.

Christian Post Report – Official poster of NCIS season 12

This week’s showing of the hit crime-fighting, police-procedural TV drama series “NCIS” Season 12 will see more action and suspense as what spoiler reports seem to suggest.

Entitled “No Good Deed,” the Tony-centric episode of the CBS show will see Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) teaming up with his girlfriend, ATF Special Agent Zoe Keates (Marisol Nichols), after the agency found evidence revealing the truth behind the murder weapon being used in an NCIS case.

As stated by the synopsis posted on The Futon Critic, the weapon was “originally purchased for the controversial ATF sting operation” aptly called “Operation Fast and Furious.”

A report from Christian Today speculated that the issue in the upcoming segment could create a rift between the NCIS and the ATF. Fans should hope for the best that the duo can solve the case before things escalate to a worst degree.

Meanwhile, the summary from TFC went on to reveal that Tony’s father, Anthony DiNozzo Sr. (Robert Wagner) will be back in town for “a special dinner” with his son and his girlfriend.

In a video promo released by the network, Tony and Zoe were seen arriving at the house only to find an oven on fire. This would be the first time that the DiNozzo patriarch will meet Zoe.

The next scene featured Gibbs (Mark Harmon) urging Tony to answer his father’s call. It was revealed that Tony doesn’t want his father to meddle with his and Zoe’s life.

“NCIS” Season 12 Episode 19 airs this Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on CBS.

Richard Dawkins Says Islam Continues to Teach Stonings, World Domination, While Christianity and Judaism Have Moved Away

Richard Dawkins (Photo: Reuters/Chris Keane)

Well-known atheist and best-selling author Richard Dawkins speaks to supporters during the “Rock Beyond Belief” festival at Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina, March 31, 2012.

Christian Post Report – Atheist author Richard Dawkins said in Twitter messages on Monday that Islam continues to uphold punishments such as stonings, and preaches about world domination, while Christianity and Judaism have moved away from such “Middle Ages” teachings.

“Laws designed for 7th-Century tribal desert society are not always well suited to modern conditions. Jews & Christians mostly realise this,” Dawkins wrote in a post.

“Yes, Christianity & Judaism are every bit as stupid as Islam. But they don’t preach world domination, theocratically imposed law, stoning, etc.,” he added in a follow-up post. “And yes, Christianity and Judaism USED TO preach equally terrible things. But we live NOW, not in the Middle Ages. That’s kind of relevant.”

Dawkins has criticized Islam on a number of occasions in recent months, and in January said that not all religions are equally violent.

“No, all religions are NOT equally violent. Some have never been violent, some gave it up centuries ago. One religion conspicuously didn’t,” Dawkins wrote following the terror attacks in Paris in January that left 17 people dead.

“Of COURSE most Muslims are peaceful. But if someone’s killed for what they drew or said or wrote, you KNOW the religion of the killers.”

And back in October 2014, the author of The God Delusion stated that 17-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai might leave her religion when she grows older.

“Of course Malala is religious now but give her time, she’s only 17 & getting the education she fought for on behalf of girls like her,” he tweeted at the time.

He later clarified that he was not criticizing Yousafzai, but defending her from others that attacked her for her faith.

“I congratulated Malala. People then attacked her for wearing hijab. I DEFENDED her; she’s only 17. So I was attacked for ‘attacking’ her,” he said.

Block Bot, a program that hides people on Twitter deemed to be offensive or abusive, placed Dawkins on its list back in March, after other users accused him of being racist and a “rape-apologist.”

The atheist professor shot back and said that he objects against libel.

“I have no objection to being blocked. Please block me if you wish. What I object to is being libelled, and linked with spammers and harassers,” Dawkins said in response.

“People are confusing the act of blocking, with libelling those blocked. Blocking is fine. Block me and I won’t miss you. Libelling is not,” he added.

‘Gotham’ Update, Rumors: Season 2 Slated to Feature Clayface and Mad Hatter

Gotham FACEBOOK/ Gotham

Christian Post Report – FOX’s “Gotham”

Fans of the hit crime fighting TV drama series “Gotham” should expect for more Batman comic villains to appear in the show when it opens for its brand new second season.

Series producer John Stephens addressing the fans during the WonderCon panel for Gotham this week.

“Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we’re going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities. Clayface especially is a character I want to [explore the origin of],” he told Screen Rant.

The publication went on to point out the previous rumors about the arrival of supervillain Mr. Freeze, which Stephens also hinted in the event.

“We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Fries – who’s a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes,” he added.

There’s also the pressing matter of corruption happening within the Dark Knight’s beloved city in which Stephens teased might also involve the Court of Owls.

“It’s clear that there is a group of shadowy individuals that control and influence Wayne Enterprise and have great power in Gotham and may or may not be connected to Carmine Falcone. Is that The Court of Owls? Maybe… Keep watching and those questions will be answered,” he went on to say.

“Gotham” Season 2 is confirmed to debut Wayne Enterprise’s tech whiz, Lucius Fox, who will be played by Chris Chalk. Also slated to return are primary characters James Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie), Det. Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), and more others.

“Gotham” Season 2 premieres this Monday, April 13 on FOX.
