Christian Post Report – Many predicted that Kentucky would go deep into the tournament, but slowly they’ve shown that they are a level above their opponents as they have dominated their way to this stage so far.

In their opening round, they thrashed Hampton 79-56 behind a double-double game from Karl-Anthony Towns. The forward scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Cincinnati were up next for the Wildcats and the Bearcats stood no chance. After keeping the game close at the half, Kentucky turned up the intensity to eventually win 64-51 with Trey Lyles scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds in only 28 minutes on the court.

Finally reaching the Sweet 16, Kentucky were tasked to face 5th seed West Virginia. It took less than a few minutes to determine that the Wildcats outclassed the Mountaineers. The first half ended 44-18 and the result was easily decided. Kentucky doubled WVU’s score 78-39. Lyles led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Andrew Harrison had 13. Three other players scored at least 12 points in a game where the Wildcats held the Mountaineers to 24 percent shooting from the field and an abysmal 13 percent from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame had much closer matches as they booked their place in the last eight. They first beat Northeastern 69-65 with Zach Auguste scoring 25 points while also pulling down five rebounds to help avoid the upset. Jerian Grant added 17 for the Fighting Irish who shot 57 percent from the field in the game.

Next was a meeting against 6th Butler Bulldogs and the game needed to go to overtime before being decided.

In the 67-64 win, Notre Dame turned to Grant to perform in the extra period as he went on to finish the game with 16 points while playing the whole 45 minutes. Steve Vasturia scored a team-high 20 points to help Notre Dame move on to the Sweet 16.

Finally they faced off against Wichita State Shockers who were out to beat another top-seeded team. However, Notre Dame were anchored by Pat Connaughton who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while also registering a pair of steals and blocks.

Four of their five starters finished in double figures as they now face probably the biggest test in the tournament

Thomas finished with a game high 18 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the field. He also was a stalwart on the defensive end with four blocks in 32 minutes. Oklahoma Sooners forward Romero Osby (R) goes for a lay-up over Texas A&M Aggies center Keith Davis during the first half of the first round of the NCAA men’s Big 12 basketball tournament at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, March 7, 2012.

Next was a match against 11th seed Dayton and things were much closer than their first match.

After a 34-32 half, Oklahoma turned on the defensive pressure in the second half to win 72-66. Jordan Woodard scored 16 points in 35 minutes, he also recorded four steals to stifle Dayton’s backcourt. Frank Booker was a spark from the bench, scoring 12, with all of his points coming from 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Oklahoma also crashed the boards by out-rebounding Dayton 35-23.

Michigan State faced 10th-ranked Georgia in the second round of the tournament and won 70-63.

Denzel Valentine led the team with 16 points as the Spartans held the Bulldogs to only 33 percent shooting from the field. They also limited Georgia to only 4-of-14 from beyond the arc, while they drained 39 percent of their attempts from three.

Up next was 2nd seed Virginia and Michigan State were looking to repeat what they did last season – eliminate the favourites.

Travis Trice played excellent as he dropped 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting while Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds. Their defense was excellent as the Cavaliers only managed to convert 30 percent from the field and 12 percent from beyond the arc. Paired with their 43 percent shooting and 50 percent from three, Michigan State clearly had Virginia’s number.

Duke Blue Devils vs Utah Utes Live Stream Free, CBS TV Start Time: Watch NCAA March Madness 2015 Basketball Online

Duke will try to continue their dominance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball tournament as they face Utah in the Sweet 16. The game is on March 27, 2015 and begins at 9:45 p.m. ET, and can be watched on TV on the CBS network or online through live stream (details below).

Christian Post Report – The Blue Devils began the tournament against Robert Morris of NEC and took off as expected by many. They led big at the half and continued to pour on the pressure until they eventually won 85-56. Robert Morris could not find an answer for Duke’s players, especially center Jahlil Okafor who scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Quinn Cook had another superb game with 22 points while also dishing out five assists and three steals.

Duke Blue Devils forward Mason Plumlee (5) shoots around Maryland Terrapins center Alex Len (25) during the first half of their ACC Championship college basketball game in Greensboro, North Carolina March 15, 2013.

Duke shot the ball with great efficiency, draining 63 percent of their shots and 48 percent from beyond the arc.

Up next was a match against San Diego State and though it was a different team, the results were the same. Okafor drilled 26 points while pulling down six rebounds and blocking three shot attempts, while Justise Winslow completed a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Just like in their first game, they shot well from the field, but they also held San Diego State to 33 percent shooting and 15 percent from beyond the arc.

Utah faced-off against SF Austin in the second round and despite the close result, they were firmly in control.

Leading 26-19 at the end of the half, Utah eventually won 57-50. Jakob Poeltl had a nearly flawless game as he finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots. More impressive was that he went 7-of-7 from the field in 33 minutes of play. Jordan Loveridge added 12 points in the victory as Utah held off a game opponent.

Next was a tougher opponent in the Georgetown Hoyas. Ranked one seed higher than Utah, many expected this to be a close match. After the half, they were tied at 32. However, four of Utah’s five starters scored in double figures to outscore the Hoyas by 11 points in the second half to eventually win 75-64.

Houston Rockets News: Howard Back in the Line-Up, Beverly to Undergo Surgery

James Harden Reuters/File

Houston Rockets guard James Harden

Christian Post Report – After getting Dwight Howard back from several weeks of absence due to injury, the Houston Rockets again received bad news.

According to ESPN, Rockets starting point guard Patrick Beverley could undergo surgery, and possibly end his season prematurely. Beverley tore his ligaments in his left wrist during the team’s win against Indiana. The injury reportedly caused swelling and pain.

The guard reportedly consulted a doctor in Houston, but is looking for other options for the treatment of his injury. According to an insider, the entire team is hoping that a favorable prognosis would be needed after a re-evaluation of the injury.

Beverley, who is averaging 10.1 points and 3.4 assists a game, would be a huge loss for Houston in the backcourt. Not known for his offensive prowess, the 26-year-old guard is among the team’s best defenders and guard stoppers.

Meanwhile, in case Beverley does undergo surgery, he would be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Taking his place would be veterans Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni. Unfortunately for the Rockets, the two has not adjusted yet.

During Houston’s match against New Orleans, Terry only registered two points and three assists in 27 minutes. Meanwhile, Prigioni did a little better with his two points and four assists in 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, those numbers and performances may not be enough to back-up James Harden in his scoring, especially during the playoffs.

Detroit Lions NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Make or Break Year for Lions and Matthew Stafford

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford looks to throw a pass against the Chicago Bears during the first quarter of their NFL football game at Soldier Field in Chicago, October 22, 2012.

Christian Post Report – Those who watch the Detroit Lions play their games say that if the team is going to take the next step it needs better, or maybe more consistent, play for its quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford has put up a lot of numbers in his NFL career but rarely have those stats led to on the field success for his team. In what was a very down 2014 year for Stafford, in his sixth season as a NFL starter, his team won 11 games and made the playoffs. In his statistical best season, 2011, the Lions went 10-6. In each of those seasons the Lions lost in the opening round of the NFL playoffs.

That led his Coach, Jim Caldwell, to make the following comments as reported by Pro Football Talk:

“Someone said something about ‘Hey, well Coach, you really need your quarterback to take off. No, we don’t really need him to really take off. He’s been doing well. He’s improving steadily. Things in this league don’t happen that way. No one makes a meteoric jump. It’s gradual, it’s too competitive. There are too many good players. And it’s a tough league, and I do think he’s making really good progress.”

Even though it is his seventh Stafford’s first two seasons were marred by injury. He only played in 13 games those two seasons, which makes 2015 his fifth full year as the starter and a real make or break campaign for the franchise QB.

If Stafford plays more consistently and can lead his team on the field, and the Lions get a playoff win under their belt they are clearly on the right path. If he regresses and the Lions falter on the field the Lions may be stuck with a highly paid QB who cannot get them to the next level.

NASCAR 2015 News, Rumors: Slugger Labbe Fined and Suspended

Duck Commander will sponsor the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway in April. (PIERRE DUCHARME/Reuters)

Duck Commander will sponsor the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway in April.

NASCAR has suspended Crew Chief Slugger Labbe of the no. 33 race team for three weeks and fined him $50,000. Labbe will also be placed on probation through the end of 2015 and car owner Joe Falk has been docked 25 car owner points. All of these punishments stem from violations on the no. 33 car driven last week in California by Brian Scott.

The no. 33 team was outside the NASCAR rule book for having an unapproved truck trailer arm installation and it was a P4 rules violation that is among the most serious offenses. NASCAR also levied a penalty for actions detrimental to stock car racing which is the racing leagues personal conduct penalty. NASCAR confiscated the pieces after the car failed its pre race inspection. Scott qualified for the race in the 25th spot and finished in the 27th earning a purse of over 100 thousand dollars.

The #33 team is a team driven by several drivers in a joint effort by Richard Childress Racing and Circle Sport. They are running all of the races to keep the car in the top 35 in owner’s points for a guaranteed starting spot each week. RCR is suing the car to get seat time for its young drivers like Scott and Ty Dillon.

While the fine is a hefty one the real damage could be the loss of 25 points owner’s point which could drop the no. 33 team out of a guaranteed starting spot. With 46 teams trying to qualify for 43 places this weekend at Martinsville that could be the difference between making the race and going home.

The no. 33 team was not the only team to receive penalties.

“NASCAR issued behavioral penalties to five XFINITY crew members for failure to comply with a directive from track security during pre-race activities March 21 at Auto Club Speedway. The crew members, who were working for driver Blake Koch’s No. 8 XFINITY Series team, were Mark Armstrong, Tyler Bullard, Nathaniel House, Jeremy Howard and Ryan Mulder.” FoxSports reported.

NFL 2015 Schedule News: NFL Playoff Expansion Plans Has Scheduling Conflicts

NFL NFL

The NFL wants to expand its playoff tournament

Christian Post Report – The NFL wants to increase the size of their playoff field from 12 to 14 teams. While it seems simple to add a few games to the season ending tournament the NFL is facing significant scheduling difficulties as it tries to add games to the Wild Card Round without playing playoff games on Monday night, which could lead to a potential conflict with the College Football Championship games.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodel said the league will probably put off the decison.

“This is something we’ve been evaluating over the last couple of years and I think several factors went into the decision to at least postpone the expanded playoffs,” he explained. “We want to make the regular season more important, more exciting and have more teams in the race. … We also have scheduling issues as far as when we could play the games: Saturday, Sunday, we’ve looked at a Monday night.”

“College football has the national championship on Monday night, we certainly don’t want to conflict with that. So there are a number of factors that are going on, so we just felt the right thing to do was take another year and evaluate all this,” he said.

The obvious solution to this is to have the lowest seeded teams to make the playoffs play on Thursday night. That would tie in with the league’s apparent decision to tie the added playoffs to its Thursday night TV package. Under this scenario one playoff game would be played Thursday night, two on Saturday and three games on Sunday during the Wild Card round.

Giving the lowest seeded teams what amounts to one addition day off if they win is not such a disadvantage considering they would be playing the highest seeded teams the following week which is most cases had a bye for the Wild Card round.

Christian Post Report – The Gonzaga Bulldogs face-off against the UCLA Bruins in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is on March 27, 2015 at 7:15 p.m. ET.

As the second seed, Gonzaga were given the task to face North Dakota State in the second round.

Things looked pretty straight-forward for the Bulldogs in the first half, ending with a 43-30 lead. However, the Bisons tried to claw their way back behind Dexter Werner’s 22 points but were unable to make-up for the big lead as Gonzaga won 86-76.

In the victory, Kyle Wiltjer scored 23 points while shooting 8-of-12 from the field. He also had eight rebounds in 31 minutes on the floor. Gonzaga shot the ball well, draining 52 percent from the field while they also dominated on the boards with 35 to North Dakota’s 24.

Next they had Big Ten’s Iowa and Gonzaga made sure that they were able to finish their dominating starts to the games.

They led 46-29 at the half and kept the pace to win 87-68. Wiltjer had another amazing performance as he only missed two attempts out of 12 to score 24 points. Domantas Sabonis was also a spark from the bench as he drained 18 points while shooting 60 percent from the field. Gonzaga was dominant in the offensive end as they drained 63 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, the Bruins beat the Southern Methodist University Mustangs after center Yanick Moreira committed goaltending on Bryce Alford’s attempt in the dying seconds of the second round match. With SMU leading by two, Alford’s shot appeared to be offline but Moreira grabbed the ball as it was still along the cylinder to force the referees to credit the points and help UCLA advance in the competition. Making the most of the chance, UCLA dominated UAB in the third round, winning 92-75 behind 28 points from Tony Parker.

All of the Bruins’ starters scored in double figures led by parker, who also had 12 rebounds and three blocks in 30 minutes on the court.

The Bruins need all the luck they can get as they face another tough battle against the heavily-favoured Gonzaga.

Louisville Cardinals guard Russ Smith (L) drives to the hoop past Wichita State Shockers guard Ron Baker during the second half of their NCAA men’s Final Four basketball game in Atlanta, Georgia April 6, 2013.

Christian Post Report – NC State Wolfpack are looking for another upset as they face the Louisville Cardinals in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. The match is on March 27, 2015 and tip-off is at 7:37 p.m. ET.

Meeting LSU in the second round of the competition, NC State had to rely on BeeJay Anya to provide the winning shot in the 66-65 match.

LSU held the lead at the half, but the Wolfpack clawed their way back into the game behind Anthony Barber’s 17 points. Guard Trevor Lacey overcame a poor shooting night by filling up other stats as he scored nine points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out four assists.

Next they were tasked to face number one seed Villanova in the third round. Few gave them a real chance against the Wildcats but NC State came in prepared. Four of their five starters finished the game with double digits in scoring, led by Lacey with 17 as the Wolfpack shot 45 percent from the field.

Furthermore, they limited the Wildcats’ offense to just 31 percent shooting and out-rebounded the Big East giants 45-32.

Meanwhile, it was a total team effort that helped Louisville beat UC Irvine in the second round. Quentin Snider made two free throws to give Louisville the lead and Terry Rozier made a crucial defensive stop to secure their place into the third round. Wayne Blackshear topped the team in scoring with 19, with Snider finishing a close second with 16.

Next was a date with the fifth seed Northern Iowa Panthers. The Cardinals kept their composure from their previous game to take a nine-point lead at the half and carry it over to eventually win 66-53. Rozier had another impressive performance with 25 points, while Montrezl Harrell added 14 points and six rebounds in the victory.

This should be an interesting clash between the ACC rivals, for live updates and scores visit ESPN.com. For live streaming, click here.
