Jeremy Lin News: Lakers Coach Calls Lin ‘an NBA Player,’ Will LA Re-Sign Him?

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak introduces Jeremy Lin during a press conference at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, Thursday, July 24, 2014.

Christian Post Report – Jeremy Lin is coming off his best stretch in the season.

After playing poorly during the past few months, the 26-year-old point guard managed to get himself going right after the All-Star Break.

According to a report by Lakers Nation, coach Byron Scott has given Lin another crack at the starting line-up.

The former Harvard standout was originally part of the starting five for the Lakers after Hall of Famer Steve Nash went down with another back injury. However, 20 games into the season and the Lakers had yet to find their form and weren’t winning.

As a result, Lin was designated to the bench, and played limited minutes in the several weeks that followed.

But to make matters worse for LA, Kobe Bryant suffered another season-ending injury, completely taking the hope away from the Lakers to ever land a playoff spot.

But after the All-Star Break, Lin was playing better than ever before for Los Angeles. The Linsanity star has averaged 14 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds a game since the break.

While the Lakers still have not found a way to win consistently, it is definitely good news that Lin and his teammates are playing with more cohesiveness as a unit than earlier this season.

As a result of Lin’s recent performances, including a 29-point, 5-assist outburst against the Sixers, coach Scott has commended his floor general’s strengths and weaknesses this season.

“He’s had his ups and downs this year,” he said, “but he’s definitely an NBA player. We all know that. It’s just a matter of what happens in the draft and everything else that determines what we’re going to do with the free agent market.”

Pastor Tony Evans: We Can’t Use the Reality of Racial Divide to Condone Irresponsibility in the Black Community

Tony Evans (Photo: Courtesy of Alli Rader)

Dallas pastor, author and syndicated radio and television host Tony Evans speaks at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s Leadership Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday, March 26, 2015.

Christian Post Report – In his final remarks during a Thursday panel discussing racial reconciliation in America and the importance of urban ministry, African-American pastor, author and syndicated radio broadcaster Tony Evans boldly stated that many of the issues surrounding race in America stem from the social irresponsibility of those within the African-American community.

Speaking at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s Leadership Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, Evans asserted that although the responsibility to alleviate the racial divide also lies with the church and other racial classes who must hold government accountable to change an unjust justice system, black Americans cannot use the existence of racial tensions to justify careless or irresponsible actions.

“There is another side here that needs to be brought to bear and that is black accountability. Because while we want to have the sensibility that we are talking about, and we must have it, we cannot use the reality of race to condone irresponsibility,” Evans explained. “Much that goes under the name of race has to do with black irresponsibility.”

Evans added that although racial stigmas and assumptions about black people clearly exist in the minds of others, it is not racial tension that causes African-Americans many of the social and financial hardships they endure.

“It is not race getting these girls pregnant. It is not race abandoning the family. It’s not race for those refusing to work and being responsible,” Evans continued. “Even if all the whites did everything right, there is a responsibility on our side to make sure, as leaders, we are holding black people accountable and they are not illegitimately using race as an excuse to promote it, or even allow it, or even sanction it, or even to whine about it.”

Even though creating a better racial environment in America will require effort and reconciliation from all races, Evans said that African-Americans still need to do their part to address these issues in order to fully solve racial problems.

“Without those two sides, then what you get is an unbalanced approach to the subject. It shows up in a lot of different ways,” Evans contended. “Unless we address both of those sides, then we will not address the whole issue, and we need to address the whole issue.”

Although Evans admitted that the racial divide in America will never fully be eliminated, that doesn’t mean that the community can’t strive to improve the issues as much as they can.

“When the Dallas Cowboys play any other football team, there is going to be 11 other men that will oppose you. That is the nature of the reality. They are going to try to stop your progress. You greatness is in your ability to out maneuver them and still score,” Evans said. “So we may never get rid of racism, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t call plays that still work and be responsible for progressing in spite of that reality, while at the same time, trying to address it.”

From Left: Walter Strickland, Dhati Lewis, Kevin Smith, Tony Evans, and Dean Inserra speak during a panel on “Key Issues in Racial Reconciliation: Poverty, Fatherlessness, Criminal Justice, and Urban Ministry,” at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s Leadership Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday, March 26, 2015.

Dean Inserra, a white pastor at the City Church in Tallahassee, Florida, who also spoke on the panel, said responsibility to help bridge the racial gap also lies on the trendy affluent Caucasians who move into inner cities because they think it is cool.

Inserra further explained that one of the problems is that affluent white people, even white Christians, are moving into inner cities for the wrong reasons. Inserra said if more people moving into inner cities would take it as an opportunity to get to know and worship with the struggling urban African-American communities, it would build a more trusting relationship.

Inserra explained that too often many well-off individuals move into cities looking for the “urban” experience, but not looking to fulfill the Great Commission. He added that white Christians who live in the inner city shouldn’t be going to church with a congregation full of white people.

“Many people say that the church is the most segregated place in America. I believe that to be true, but what is the result of the that? The second and the third places are the neighborhood and the school,” Inserra said. “We need to get back to the mission of the church, and it is to make disciples where people are. If that is urban or suburban or in between, or rural or international, its about reaching people for Christ that live there.

“If you are a white pastor that goes to Seattle because its just so cool and [you] love tofu and bands that nobody has ever heard of before, we mean urban ministry, not Urban Outfitters. [They are] two different things,” Inserra quipped. “If you are going to a big city… and everybody in your church congregation looks like you, we are missing the boat somewhere on what is urban ministry because you actually got to reach the people that live there where you are sent.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 11 News, Spoilers: Derek Addresses Cheating Rumours

Grey's Anatomy Facebook/ Grey’s Anatomy

Meredith contemplates whether Derek is cheating on her or not, on Grey’s Anatomy

Christian Post Report – The last episode of the hit medical drama TV series “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 titled “Don’t Dream It’s Over” got the fans thinking if Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is cheating on Meredith (Ellen Pompeo).

Near the end of the segment, Dr. Grey was answered by a woman on Derek’s phone who was currently in Washington DC. The incident got the doctor upset and utterly suspicious towards her other half, who as revealed, has done such things before.

“He’s done this before. Met a girl, fell in love, started over. He’s not cheating on me, right?” the resident surgeon said in Ep. 16.

She may have the reasons to think so given that the neuro-surgeon once left his former wife for her. It would seem likely that Derek is doing the same thing with her.

But before everything escalates, a promo video for the upcoming segment was posted by ABC revealing Derek “flying home in the middle of the night” to try to explain the situation to Mer. However, it appears that this might not be an easy one for him.

“I left my phone at the lab. By the time I figured out I left it, I was already at the airport coming to you,” Derek explained to the troubled woman.

But the real question is, why a random stranger picks up the call for him.

“I don’t know,” he further reasoned out. “She probably thought it was me. I called her from the airport, then she told me she spoke to you.”

“I wish I could believe you,” Meredith apparently doubts the truth of his story. “”I know how this works. I was your resident once. Seems like you came home because you thought you were in trouble.”

Meanwhile, the synopsis from The Futon Critic also indicates that Owen (Kevin McKidd) will be surprised to admit a patient which turns out to be his mother.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 airs Thursday, at 8 p.m. on ABC.

One Direction to Replace Zayn Malik? (VIDEO)

Zayn Malik Reuters/File

Zayn Malik performs with his band ”One Direction” on NBC’s Today show in New York November 13, 2012.

Christian Post Report – On the heels of Zayn Malik leaving One Direction after bowing out of the band’s “On The Road Again Tour,” speculations have emerged over his rumored replacements.

Pakistani-English singer-songwriter Zayn Malik quit the popular British boy band One Direction earlier this week pleading stress after allegations and online photographs emerged he was cheating on fiancée, Perrie Edwards, back home.

Talk of the 22-year-old ex-band member’s replacement has now taken center stage on social media, with rumors One Direction will have Malik’s replacement within the year as the band completes its 2015 tour circuit.

Gossip centered on one of the members of British boy band, Overload Generation, introduced in 2014’s “The X Factor UK,” and who were eliminated one week into the sing-off. In particular, 20-year-old Joseph Devries, who bears a passing resemblance to Malik, has been sighted as a possible replacement.

MTV also published a tongue-in-cheek article naming all possible alternates for Malik, including Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Jaden Smith, Sam Smith, and even Beatles legend Paul McCartney.

The article garnered flak from Malik’s young fans who have posted emotional tributes, as well as crying selfies and videos on social media as a reaction to their idol leaving the band.

ABC also published a mock audition by “Full House” alumnus, John Stamos, whose musical credits include touring with the iconic Beastie Boys. The mock-dition appeared on actor Josh Peck’s Vine where Stamos sang One Direction’s, “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful.”

“Josh and Drake’s” Peck is set to star with Stamos in an as-yet-untitled comedy pilot on Fox.

Malik’s leaving the band has been speculated to be a sign of One Direction’s break-up soon after their current tour ends, a prediction that has intermittently appeared on news websites since 2014.

Meanwhile, the band has issued a statement saying they will be completing the tour as a foursome, and will be recording their new album without Malik.

Vin Diesel has named his newborn daughter after his late “Fast & Furious” co-star, Paul Walker.

Christian Post Report – Vin Diesel, whose partner, Mexican model Paloma Jimenez, recently gave birth to their third child this month, has named his new daughter after his late co-star, Paul Walker.

Diesel, 47, who has starred with Walker in all seven “Fast & Furious” films since 2001, named his daughter Pauline after Walker, 40, perished in a car crash in November 2013 during a break in the filming of “Fast & Furious 7.”

“I might never have gone into a delivery room if it wasn’t for Paul,” Diesel said on the “Today” show, as published in The National. When Diesel’s first born, Hania Riley was born in 2008, Walker advised him to be present during the delivery and cut the umbilical cord himself.

Vin Diesel posted this picture of him and his newborn daughter, Pauline, on Facebook on March 16

According to the actor, naming his daughter, Pauline, felt like a way to keep Walker’s memory alive as a part of his family.

Diesel, who admitted to being devastated at Walker’s death, said his thoughts were on his late co-star when he was in the delivery room with Paloma and cutting his youngest child’s umbilical cord.

The new film in the franchise, “Furious 7,” is dedicated to Walker, and will premiere April 3, nearly two years after the actor’s death. During the film’s early screening, Diesel gave a short emotional speech about Walker, and how much he will be missed in many ways other than as an actor.

With Paul Walker’s death before filming was completed on the movie, the actor’s brothers Cody and Caleb Walker acted as stand-ins to complete the unfinished scenes.

Returning cast from the previous film include Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Elsa Pataky. The upcoming “Furious 7” will be introducing new characters played by Kurt Russell, Ronda Rousey, Djimon Hounsou, Nathalie Emmanuel, and a cameo by Iggy Azalea.

Zayn Malik Leaves One Direction, Says He’s Stressed

British boy band One Direction pose on the red carpet

Christian Post Report – It is official: Zayn Malik has quit One Direction, one of the biggest and busiest boy bands in recent music history. After months of rumors and speculations about his wanting to go solo, the band issued an official statement Wednesday that the 22-year old singer is leaving the band.

This news immediately followed his non-appearance in one concert night of the band in the Philippines. The band was slated for a two-night concert run in the country and Malik was not able to join the band on the first night.

A report in BBC Newsbeat said that Malik “walked away from the band’s world tour” which was in Asia last week and will be in Africa this weekend. The band will continue their world tour as a four-member band. Malik has reportedly flown back to the U.K.. His main reason for leaving the tour was because of stress.

“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart,” Malik said in a statement, adding that he wants to be “a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

Simon Cowell, under whose record label the band signed on to, also said his thanks to Malik for “everything he has done for One Direction.”

Another report in BBC Newsbeat shows just how busy the band is. Since their participation in the X Factor, they have logged in 300 tour dates in three years, have recorded 75 tracks as a band and have filmed one movie. Since 2010, they have gone on tour every year. The report called their schedule “hardcore,” a life that someone in their 20s would not normally lead.

One Direction was formed during the X Factor competition in 2010, where they won third place.

Maisie Williams Admits to Doing Her Own Stunts on ‘Game of Thrones’ (VIDEO)

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark in HBO’s “Game of Thrones”

Christian Post Report – “Game of Thrones” ingénue Maisie Williams admitted to doing her own stunts on HBO’s critically acclaimed miniseries.

17-year-old Williams, who plays House Stark’s tomboy, Arya for the last four seasons of the show, says she has performed all her stunts in the series, including sword fights with her character’s beloved sword, Needle.

Williams, whose portrayal of the fierce and indomitable younger daughter of the doomed House Stark has earned her a large and loyal fan base, told Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday she’d decided to do all her own stunt work for the challenge.

The actress is due to appear in the HBO epic fantasy for season five on April 12. She revealed that her character in the books is a leftie, so despite being right-handed herself, Williams made the switch for the series.

“The fans are so die-hard that they were like, ‘I wonder if Maisie’s going to do it? She’s only 12 so she probably won’t.” She told her host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” “And that was like, ‘Challenge accepted!'”

In fact, Williams has become so adept at sword wielding, she’s gained the reputation for being the Iñigo Montoya of television — he’s the revenge-fixated swordsman played by Mandy Patinkin in the 1987 popular fantasy romance cult film, “Princess Bride.”

Like Montoya, Arya is hell-bent on seeking revenge against the killers of her father, mother and brother, and has sailed across the Narrow Sea to Braavos to perfect the art of the Braavosi Water Dance, initially introduced to her by her sword master, Syrio Forel, in the show’s first season.

Williams, who has received critical acclaim for her role in the last 33 episodes of the series, received a Portal Award for Best Supporting Actress in Television in 2012, and she is the youngest actress to have done so. She also won the Teen Award for Best British Actor awarded by BBC Radio 1 the following year.

Christian Post Report – Another comic book series is going the way of live-action adaptation. This time, it’s the obscure “Lazarus” comic book series of Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, which was published under Image Comics in 2013. Legendary Television and Mark Tolmach of Tolmach Productions will be working on a TV adaptation of the comic book series after they acquired the rights to the series recently.

The story is interesting enough. It is set in a dystopian futuristic world, where only a handful of families control society. Each family has their own Lazarus, a genetically-engineered, invincible being who is the family’s protector. As protector, the Lazarus will use any means possible to protect the family’s interests.

The key character in the series is a Lazarus called Forever Carlyle. Like any other Lazarus, “she uses force and deception to keep her family and their interests safe,” according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

Greg Rucka, one of the “Lazarus” creators, will write the series pilot. He is also an Executive Producer, together with his co-creator Michael Lark and Tolmach. Tolmach Productions will be represented by David Manpearl. The productions group is known for producing the ill-fated “Amazing Spider-Man” series for Sony.

Rucka is well-known in the comics industry, having won five Eisner Awards for different comic book stories such as “Whiteout,” “Queen & Country,” “Gotham Central” and “I Am An Avenger.” He also is known for his series of novels featuring “Atticus Kodiak,” which follows the life of a professional bodyguard. The report also says that his “Queen & Country” has been considered by the Fox Network.

Lark, on the other hand, has two Eisner Awards for his work with Greg Rucka. His artwork has appeared in Marvel Comics and DC Comics, in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Daredevil,” and “Captain America,” and many others.

There is no news yet as to which network will air the series.

‘Vikings’ Season 3 News, Spoilers: Ragnar Sets Aside Homeland Conflict in Favor of an Overseas Raid

Vikings Facebook/ Vikings

The official season 3 poster of Vikings

Christian Post Report – The highly anticipated Raid of Paris plotline is now drawing closer than ever as spoiler reports for the upcoming segment of the hit historical drama TV series “Vikings” Season 3 indicates that Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) will be setting aside some issues in his homeland to make plans for the siege.

Avid followers of the show may remember the Northman King refusing indirectly the plea of Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) that he should help her re-claim Hedeby. They did arrive at Lagertha’s earldom but the wandering conqueror spoke privately with Kalf (Ben Robson) to offer him the chance of fighting along with him in the great raid of Paris.

This upset Lagertha, who will still insist that they should at first deal with the matters at hand. Kalf, on the other hand, remains adamant with the newly usurped position.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Robson shared his views about his character.

“I think it’s the first step of recognition,” Ben said. “I mean, I think for the Vikings, it’s to be recognized by the gods, to be fighting by Odin’s side in the war of the gods in Valhalla.”

The drive for fame is really strong within Kalf’s mind. In fact, his desire is to actually surpass the new King of Denmark.

“I think if you’ve got Ragnar who has achieved so much for the Vikings, if he’s being recognized — and I think Kalf wants to be recognized more than Ragnar — [Kalf] has to surpass whatever Ragnar has achieved, and I think in terms of his fame, it’s – from a farmer to a king, that’s an incredible degree of success, so if he can achieve anything like that, it’s a monumental task,” he went on to explain.

“Vikings” will air this week with episode titled “Born Again” on History Channel. Check out the recently released teaser below:
