Acquiring Great Faith

Hebrews 11:17-19

Christian Post Report – I’ve had people tell me, “I wish I had great faith.” While most of us would like God to just drop that kind of con-fidence into our laps, it’s not the way He operates. Faith increases as a result of our obedience in little things. We all marvel at Abraham’s willingness to offer up Isaac at the Lord’s command. But have you ever stopped to consider all of his smaller steps of submission that prepared the way for this enormous test?

    Dr. Charles F. Stanley (File).

Throughout his lifetime, Abraham obeyed God. At the Lord’s command, he left his country (Gen. 12:1-4), was circumcised (17:10, 26), conceived Isaac when he and his wife were old (21:1-3), and sent his son Ishmael away (vv. 9-14). By the time he was asked to offer Isaac as a sacrifice, he already knew that God would always be faithful to His promises. Abraham’s previous experiences had taught him to trust the Lord.

In the same way, each small step of obedience solidifies our confidence in God. Then, when He challenges us with a more difficult assignment, a firm foundation of assurance enables us to trust and obey. Great acts of faith flow from our past interactions with the Lord. By neglecting His simple commands, we miss priceless opportunities to witness His faithfulness.

Having trouble trusting the Lord for something big? Maybe it’s because you’ve ignored those “small” and “insignificant” promptings of the Holy Spirit. God considers each of His commands important and promises to reward every act of obedience, regardless of size. Great faith begins with little steps.

Windows 10 Release Date Rolling Out to 190 Countries, Supporting 111 Languages

Windows 10 Windows/Facebook/Image

Since Microsoft made the announcement late last year, a lot of people have been interested in the new Windows 10 OS that will be launched a couple of months from now.

Christian Post Report – However, which markets would initially get the OS upgrade?

According to a report by The Verge, the Redmond giant would release the new operating system to 190 countries worldwide. In addition, Microsoft’s latest creation would also support up to 111 different languages.

The information comes from Windows chief Terry Myerson who stated that the latest Microsoft OS would make its way to the market by summer.

Even with the release still a couple of months away, it seems Microsoft is already flexing its muscles working with other partner manufacturers.

In the report, the company is already working with Lenovo and Tencent in order to successfully make Windows 10 available in the world’s biggest market – China.

In addition, Microsoft will also try its best to battle piracy, especially throughout the region.

Based on previous reports, Windows 10 will be a multi-platform operating system, which means it can run on smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs.

Most PC manufacturers are Windows partners so it can be expected that all new releases in the latter half of 2015 would run on the latest version.

However, the Windows 10 system will definitely have problems taking on iOS and Android in mobile devices like phones and tablets.

As a result, Microsoft may be partnering with phone makers as well in order to promote the latest OS.

Yesterday, a Xiaomi Mi 4 was allegedly running the latest Windows version.

It is just a few weeks away until we see the latest Windows OS, and by then people would know whether Microsoft is back on track or not.

Lee Strobel Discusses His Time as an Atheist, and Grace for Churches Deviating From Scripture (Part 2)

Lee Strobel (Photo: Saddleback Church)

Author and apologist Lee Strobel said he believes that science affirms Psalm 102:25: “In the beginning, you [God] laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens are the work of your hands.” Strobel was speaking at “Apologetics Weekend” at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., Nov. 24, 2012.

Christian Post Report – Lee Strobel, a professor of Christian Thought at Houston Baptist University who once professed to be an atheist when working as a journalist at the Chicago Tribune, says that a life changing experience, influenced by his wife’s conversion to Christianity, led him to dedicate his life to Christ and to being an apologist for the faith.

Strobel has written a series of books, including The Case for Christ, The Case for Faith and The Case for Creator that explore various evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ, the Christian faith and God as the Creator of the universe. His latest work, The Case for Grace, explores the transformative power of God’s grace and its ability to change lives.

The following is an edited transcript of The Christian Post’s interview with Strobel in which he talks about his time as an atheist and whether grace can be extended to congregations that deviate from Scripture. You can read Part 1 of CP’s interview with Strobel here.

CP: When you were an atheist, were you solidified in your position, or did you just have a distaste for faith?

Strobel: I started out as a teenager just believing that the idea of an all loving, all powerful, all knowing creator of the universe was absurd and wasn’t even worth my time to check out. I had an initial knee-jerk reaction against the idea of God. And then later was cemented in that belief through further study reading atheist authors and books. I became more solidified in why I didn’t believe that God existed.

CP: So you were an atheist when you started your journey which your book, The Case for Christ, is based on?

Strobel: When I was a journalist at the Chicago Tribune as legal editor is when I began my investigation that took almost two years. But that was a personal investigation. I wasn’t writing a book. I wasn’t intending to ever publish anything on it. It was just my own curiosity propelled by my wife’s transformation as a Christian that intrigued me. That was a year and nine months I spent using my background in journalism and law to investigate whether Christianity or any other religion was true.

CP: Do you think The Case for Grace can help people in the outside world understand why Christians believe what they believe about God’s grace?

Strobel: I believe The Case for Grace can help people who are spiritually confused or who don’t understand what Christians believe come to the point where they can not only understand it, but I hope open themselves up to the grace of God. So it’s a book that I believe will encourage Christians and deepen their faith and their appreciation of God’s grace. But my hope is that they’ll pass it along to someone who is spiritually skeptical or confused who, through the book, might find grace in their own life.

CP: You have a lot of churches in America adopting beliefs that contradict Scripture. They still try to hold onto the concept of faith, but reject some of the traditional beliefs. Do you believe there’s grace for these churches that intentionally veer away from the Bible?

Strobel: John 1: 12 says that as many have received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name. So that forms an equation of what it means to become a true child of God. Believe plus receive equals become. And there are certain beliefs that make up mere Christianity. That core of [beliefs] I think are important for a person to come to an authentic faith in Christ.

But then we have to take a step of faith by receiving this gift of grace, forgiveness and eternal life that Jesus purchased on the cross by His death. Paying our sins as our substitute. When we believe and receive we become children of God. I think there are people who may not understand all the nuances of the Christian faith, but there are some fundamentals that I think we have to understand in order to connect with God on a meaningful level.

The word denomination and the word denominator are kind of related in the sense that yes, we have a lot of different denominations with a lot of different beliefs on peripheral issues. But to be a true Christian denomination we have to share core of beliefs that are clearly taught in Scripture and are fundamental to the faith. I think those that wander outside those fundamentals are wandering in dangerous territory. We can agree to disagree on some of the peripherals of the faith as long as we agree on the fundamentals.

‘Arrow’ and ‘Flash’ Spinoff News: Dominic Purcell to Join Cast

The Flash Youtube Screenshot/ file

Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller guest star in The Flash

Christian Post Report – Dominic Purcell is joining the cast of the still untitled spinoff series on CW. In this recent casting for the show, Purcell is said to be reprising his role as the villain Heat Wave or Mick Rory. He will complete the villainous pair of Heat Wave/Captain Cold. Purcell’s co-star in “Prison Break” Wentworth Miller was earlier cast as Captain Cold/Leonard Snart in the spinoff.

Purcell’s character is described as pyromaniac who finds solace in becoming a villain who wreaks havoc in Central City together with Captain Cold.

Purcell is joining other cast members who have signed on earlier to the series. This includes Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer or the Atom, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein or the other half of Firestorm. Robbie Amell who plays the alter ego of Firestorm Ronnie Raymond, has not signed on to the series however, according to a report in TV Guide. This was confirmed by Greg Berlanti, the creator of “Arrow” in a report in Entertainment Weekly, but could not specify the reason why Amell is absent in the cast list.

Caity Lotz was also cast to reprise her role as Sara Lance or Black Canary, which was problematic according to some reports, because her character was already killed off in “Arrow.”

As previously reported, the series will also introduce three DC comics superheroes who have not been introduced or featured on TV before. According to a report in Variety, they are currently casting for these characters and Berlanti hinted the need to introduce another female hero in the show.

Aside from the “new” superheroes, the show’s producers are also excited about introducing a big villain who has not been featured on TV also. He said that he’s focusing on “making sure that the villain that we have on that show is distinct too… another big character who hasn’t been used yet.”

The series will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter for Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions. The show is eyed to be launched sometime in the midseason.

‘Vikings’ Season 3 News, Spoilers: What Tragic News Awaits the Returning Victors in Kattegat?

Vikings Facebook/ Vikings

The official season 3 poster of Vikings

Christian Post Report – The last episode of the hit historical drama series “Vikings” Season 3 saw the demise of one of the most interesting characters of the show. This, according to spoiler reports, would just be one of the tragic aspects that await the returning victors of Kattegat.

Despite her strong and cunning characteristics, Jessalyn Gilsig’s beloved character Siggy wasn’t able to survive from the hands of the mysterious Wanderer, Harbard (Kevin Durand).

Although it doesn’t directly imply that Harbard was responsible for her death, fans were strong to speculate that he could be the reason for the tragedy that occurred in Kattegat.

Siggy was one of the women who foresaw the arrival of the Wanderer. But unlike Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) wife, Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), and Floki’s (Gustag Skarsgard) Helga (Maude Hirst), Siggy was too suspicious about who Harbard is.

For those who missed it (spoiler), Rollo’s (Clive Standen) lover died trying to save Ragnar’s kids from drowning while their mother was out with Harbard for a tryst.

How will Rollo and the rest of the townsfolk react to the tragedy that befalls in Kattegat? What about its King who will soon find out the dirty deeds his wife did while he was away conquering lands for his people?

A short synopsis for this week’s segment titled “The Usurper” indicates “the fleet returns to Kattegat to discover tragic circumstances await.”

The episode title could also mean that Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) will also have to deal with the “usurper” in the person of Kalf (Ben Robson) with whom she bestowed the responsibility of running Hedeby in her absence.

“Vikings” season 2 episode 5 airs this Thursday, March 19 on the History Channel.

Titled “One of US,” spoiler reports from IBTimes indicated that Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) might lose another agent as the team is about to face the wrath of Calvin Zabo (Kyle Maclachlan) who will be assembling a team of supervillains to help him exact his revenge against the agency.

Martin Mayhew Draft Follies Have Cost the Detroit Lions Talent

Detroit Lions NFL/Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions now have a big need at DT, what will they do in free agency to fix that problem

Christian Post Report – It has not been a pretty off season for the Detroit Lions. They lost their best defensive player to a record breaking contract offered by the Miami Dolphins. They lost significant pieces of their defense in other free agent signings and their mismanagement of the salary cap he’s left them without a lot of cap space to fix the glaring needs in their roster. They also traded away the middle part of their 2015 draft to replace Ndamukong Suh.

To be frank the Detroit Lions are in this position because of their inability to draft well. General Manager Martin Mayhew took over the team during the 2008 season once the front office had finally grown tired of Matt Millen’s inability to build a winner in the Motor City.

When Nick Fairley signed with the St. Louis Rams that wiped out what was left of his 2011 draft class. When Suh signed with Miami that wiped out the last of his 2010 draft class. IN fact in his first three drafts only QB Matthew Stafford, TE Brandon Pettigrew, and LB DeAndre Levy. That is 20 picks over three drafts that yielded just three starters. That is not how a team rebuilds itself. Those picks should have been the nucleus of a new Lions roster moving forward.

Mayhew compounded those mistakes by twice draft tight ends in the first round. First in 2009 he traded WR Roy Williams to Dallas for a substantial return. He then used the first round pick acquired in that trade on Pettigrew who has become less and less important to the offense. Then in last year’s draft with the very real possibility of losing both his starting DT’s this offseason eh spent the 10th overall pick on TE Eric Ebron, while signing Pettigrew to a 4-year $16 million dollar contract extension. Most NFL team do not have one TE drafted in the first round, but the Lions have two. That underscores how poorly the Lions have used their draft picks over the years, and while they have failed to build a consistent winner.

‘The Winds of Winter’ News, Update: George R.R. Martin to Skip Upcoming Comic-Con to Give Way for TWoW

Geore R. R. Martin (Photo: Reuters/George Lucas)

George R. R. Martin.

Christian Post Report – It would certainly be an “excuse granted” for the famed fiction author George R.R. Martin to be absent at the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga as he would allot the time to work on the “long overdue” continuation of his popular book series, “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

Citing the AV Club, a report from Enstarz.com confirmed that Martin won’t be joining the fans at not one but two conventions as he will be bust at work on the sixth novel “The Winds of Winter” of which he often nicknamed “Son of Kong.”

Going to his official live journal site, the author expressed his desires to attend the World Fantasy Con. However “I’ve just had to scratch Saratoga off my list of 2015 appearances. For no reason having to do with the con itself. I am sure it will be terrific. It’s just a matter of time.”

The reason, as he revealed, would primarily be about the book.

“I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them,” he said.

To make the matters worse for the fans that are eager to see the 66-year-old author in person, he also decided to scratch off this year’s San Diego Comicon from his list.

“Same reason. But since Comicon was never listed on my Appearances page, scratching it is not as big a deal,” he went on to say.

As for the slated release of the highly anticipated sequel novel, Business Insider speculated that with the progress “going well” for TWoW, it can be surmised that the story could be “realistically completed this year.”
