The Priority of Relationship

Revelation 2:1-7

Christian Post Report – Ephesus was home to a tremendous ministry. Despite opposition and harsh persecution, the church planted by Paul spread the gospel and was quick to challenge false prophets. But 30 years after the apostle left, John’s revelation included a stern warning for those believers.

Imagine how these words must have struck the Ephesians. After complimenting their service for the gospel, Christ said, “But I have this against you . . .” (Rev. 2:4). That phrase was, without a doubt, extremely disconcerting. The Lord warned them that they had left their first love. In other words, all of their work was being done with wrong motives.

Christ called the Ephesians to remember their love for Him and their delight in His salvation. Service is no substitute for an intimate relationship, but modern believers continue to fall into this subtle trap. The commendable things that we do count for nothing unless they stem from a vibrant personal connection with God. Our work cannot be effective or fruitful unless He is in it.

In fact, God is more interested in you and your personal relationship with Him than in a thousand lifetimes of good works. He desires to be the satisfaction and delight of His children so that their service is a result of loving devotion.

There are plenty of wrong reasons to labor for the kingdom. God wants all believers with selfish intentions to return to their first love. In that way, hearts and minds can be renewed, and service to the Lord will be more effective.

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ News, Update: Director Joss Whedon Talks Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Christian Post Report – Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster, “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” is one of the reasons to look forward to this summer. Set to reprise MCU’s all-time favorite characters like Thor (Chris Helmsworth), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), and many others, talks about the upcoming film are currently focused on its primary antagonist, Ultron.

Director Joss Whedon shed some details about the villain saying that the character, along with its powers, will have a different origin as opposed to the comic book canon.

“They reinvented him in Ultimates and stuff. At one point he was a beautiful woman … I’m not doing that one!” he told SFX magazine. “I loved him when I read the comics as a kid, because of the scope and the sci-fi and what the team was going through, but I never looked to Ultron himself in the comics for why I love Ultron.”

The character Ultron, voice-acted by “The Blacklist” star James Spader, is also being compared with the first Avenger’s enemy Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

“The thing that worked about Loki was that he was able to get inside everybody’s head a little bit, and Ultron, he’s got the same thing. He knows pretty much everything there is to know about these guys. The only way you can attack Earth’s mightiest heroes is from within,” Whedon explained.

Speaking about Spader, Whedon commended how the actor hit all the notes for the role.

“Everything I’ve ever given to Spader he’s just knocked out of the park,” the 50-year-old director said.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” premieres May 1, 2015.

Sony Xperia Z4 Release Date, Specs Rumors Round Up

Sony Xperia Z4 Youtube Screenshot/ file

Sony Xperia Z4

Christian Post Report – It has not been long since Sony unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3, in September 2014. Soon afterwards, news began started circulating about its next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z4. This is fuelled by an earlier claim that Sony intends to change its production cycle from its shorter six month cycle to a longer annual cycle.

The first rumored release date of the Xperia Z4 was during the recently concluded Mobile World Congress, but since that has passed, one rumored release date is summer or July 2015. Sony has already introduced the Xperia Z4 tablet which is supposed to be released in June or July so it makes more sense to have a smartphone that goes with it, according to Trusted Reviews. Another speculation, according to Android Pit, is that Sony may launch the full-sized Xperia Z4 in May and the Xperia Z4 compact in November 2015.

Design-wise, some reports are basing their guesses on alleged design leaks which show that the Xperia Z4 may not deviate much from the design of the Xperia Z3 which is based on what it calls the OmniBalance design. TechRadar says that the new phone will “have thinner top and bottom bezels as well as more rounded corners.”

There is also a rumor that Sony may come up with a Walkman version of the Xperia Z4 which will have better speakers, longer battery life and support for music playing, of course.

The phone’s display will also receive an upgrade, if the rumors are true. One report says that it will have a 5.5 inch screen with QHD (2560 x 1440). The Xperia Z3 only had a full HD display. Another report, however, says that Sony just might have a QHD version and a full HD version.

In terms of processing power, the new phone is said to have a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 810, a significant improvement from the Xperia Z3’s Snapdragon 801. It will also have a 4 GB RAM and at least 32 GB of internal storage.

The phone’s camera will be the same as the Xperia Z3, with a 20.7MP resolution, but supposedly equipped with a new sensor allowing the user to take better photos in lower light settings. It’s front-facing camera is said to be 4.8MP.

The battery will have a 3420mAh capacity. It’s also likely that the new flagship will have Android Lollipop pre-installed.

Those who want to watch the live event online can go to the Apple website at www.apple.com/live. The event will be on March 9, at 10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Apart from having internet access, there are other important requirements that users need to take note before watching.

Users need to use specific hardware and software, such as Mac computers running on Safari 5.1.10 or later, with browsers on Mac OS X 10.6.8 onward. Unfortunately, users cannot use Windows PC, Android phones and other platforms. Only Apple-made hardware will do.

ISIS Being Weakened by Infighting, Says Mideast Expert; Loses Key Stronghold in Iraq

islamic state (Photo: Reuters/Thaier Al-Sudani)

Iraqi police men and Shi’ite fighters hold an Islamist State flag, which they pulled down on the outskirts of al-Alam March 8, 2015. Iraqi security forces and Shi?ite militia fighting the Islamic State took control of the center of a town on the southern outskirts of Saddam Hussein’s home city Tikrit on Sunday, security officials said.

Christian Post Report – Even as reports suggest that the Islamic State is facing rising tensions between its foreign and local fighters amid growing attacks by local militias, Iraqi forces and pro-government militias in Iraq have re-gained control from the terror group in two key areas near the city of Tikrit.

“The key challenge facing ISIS right now is more internal than external,” The Washington Post quotes Lina Khatib, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, as saying. “We’re seeing basically a failure of the central tenet of ISIS ideology, which is to unify people of different origins under the caliphate. This is not working on the ground. It is making them less effective in governing and less effective in military operations.”

For example, local recruits of ISIS, a Sunni terror group also known as ISIL, are expressing anger over preferential treatment that the expatriates receive in Syria, according to the Post. The salaries and living conditions of the two cannot be compared although it’s the local recruits who risk their lives in rural areas.

The two groups have fired at each other in the town of Abu Kamal on Syria’s border with Iraq on several occasions.

ISIS is an offshoot of al-Qaeda and wants to establish a caliphate in the Levant region and beyond. It has gained control over large swathes of territories in Syria and Iraq.

However, the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has recorded about 120 public executions by ISIS of its own members.

While ISIS has not been able to deal with growing infighting, offensives on areas under its control are increasingly being launched by Kurds in northern Syria and northern Iraq as well as by Shiite militias in Iraq.

On Sunday, pro-government Shiite militias in Iraq managed to enter the village of Abu Ajeel, east of Tikrit, and the Dawr area, south of the city – which had been ISIS stronghold for several months.

About 30,000 Iraqi troops and militia fighters were part of the Tikrit offensive.

Meanwhile, 26 ISIS terrorists, including two commanders, were killed in airstrikes in Syria’s Hama province during the weekend.

Elsewhere, ISIS has been targeting Christian villages near Tal Tamr to get the corridor to the eastern border to Iraq.

ISIS has attacked numerous villages of Assyrian Christians in recent weeks, and captured hundreds of villagers.

Since last June, when ISIS declared its “caliphate,” the terror group has killed roughly 2,000 people, about two-thirds of them civilians, according to the Observatory.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ Live Action Movie, Cast News: Dan Stevens, Luke Evans Joins Emma Watson

Christian Post Report – The main cast of the live action adaptation of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will be mainly English. Emma Watson, famous for her role as Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” movies, was cast early this year to play Belle in the movie. Just recently, Dan Stevens of TV’s Downton Abbey, was cast to be the Beast, which Watson herself confirmed on Twitter. Luke Evans, who played Bard the Bowman in “The Hobbit,” will play the villainous Gaston.

The decision to make a live action movie of one of Disney’s well-loved animated movies was said to have come after “Maleficent” fared well in the box office in 2014. According to Screen Rant, Disney started discussions about this project and chose “Beauty and the Beast” because it is “one of the most well-regarded in the history of American animation, holding the distinction of being one of the only animated works to ever be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.”

It was Disney who also chose director Bill Condon to direct the film. Condon is known for his direction of “Twilight: Breaking Dawn,” but this director also has considerable experience in directing musicals such as the Oscar-winning “Dreamgirls,” which bodes well if Disney wants to include musical segments in the movie. Condon also made a name for himself directing “Gods & Monsters,” the James Whale biopic in 1998.

Disney has not released anything about changes if any in the plot, but some reports are already asking how the movie will deal with the non-human characters in the cast – if they will be real actors or CGI animation.

Pop Sugar asks some pertinent questions such as how musical the movie will be, given that the last two live action adaptations “Cinderella” and “Maleficent” were not musicals. The report hinted that Condon’s musical background may just help bring some music into the film.

Disney has not set a release date, but Variety reported that production will start in the latter part of the year.

ISIS Erases Iraq’s History

ISIS Erases Iraq's History

Terror group ISIS has been bulldozing and destroying the ancient biblical city of Nimrud, Iraqi officials have said. The U.N. and the international community at large have condemned the “war crime,” which Iraq has said is aimed at erasing the country’s history.

Christian Post Report – BBC News reported that on Thursday ISIS began the destruction of the ancient Assyrian site, founded in the 13th Century BC.

“In a new crime in their series of reckless offenses they assaulted the ancient city of Nimrud and bulldozed it with heavy machinery, appropriating archaeological attractions dating back 13 centuries BC,” the United Nations cultural agency UNESCO said.

UNESCO head Irina Bokova added: “This is yet another attack against the Iraqi people, reminding us that nothing is safe from the cultural cleansing under way in the country: it targets human lives, minorities, and is marked by the systematic destruction of humanity’s ancient heritage,” she said.

NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Should the NFL Allow Its Players to Smoke Pot?

marijuana (Photo: Reuters/FILE)

Marijuana shops began selling pot legally in Colorado at the beginning of 2014, (FILE).

Christian Post Report – The NFL operates a franchise in a state were marijuana use is now legal. The league through it’s anti drug policy does not allow its players to use this ever becoming more legal drug. They test players for street drugs once a year. As Marijuana use becomes more socially acceptable, some believe the league will eventually have to back off this stance at least when it comes to marijuana. Some believe that the league is already complicit in its player’s use of drug.

Speaking to Cannabis Business Executives Breakfast, former NFL player Nate Jackson made some interesting comments that sort of expose the hypocrisy that comes with the NFL’s anti drug stance when it comes to marijuana. The key thing to remember here is Jackson played football in a state where marijuana use is legal.

He stated, as reported by Pro Football Talk, “They’re aware that probably over half of their players smoke weed. They’ve been doing it since they were teenagers. The fact that they’ve been doing it that whole time and still made it to the NFL and are able to satisfy the demands of very, very strict employers on a daily basis means that their marijuana use is in check. Marijuana is not a problem in their lives.”

PFT Writer Darin Gant wrote, “An organization as image-conscious as the NFL isn’t going to start marketing Broncos-logo bongs or Seahawks-brand rolling papers anytime soon (although the revenue possibilities might be the thing that changes their minds). And a league spokesman noted it consulted with its medical experts, who didn’t suggest allowing marijuana as a pain-management option. But the reality is a large portion of the league is already smoking, and it apparently isn’t hurting the popularity of the game, or the athletic abilities of those using.”

Not to mention is some of the places the NFL conducts its business marijuana is perfectly legal.

iPhone 7 Release Date, Specs Rumors: New Patent Hints Future iPhones Will Be Waterproof

iPhone 6 Picture: Sonny Dickson

Leaked photo of the iPhone 6 4.7 and 5.5-inch models.

Christian Post Report – The iPhone 6 and its bigger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus, are considered among the highest quality products in the market today.

However, attention is quickly shifting to what the new iPhone 7 could look like and what new specs and features it will have. The device is likely to have a release date of around September 2015, and already a new rumored feature could make the iPhone lineup even better.

According to a report by Phone Arena, Apple has recently submitted a new patent that will enable the company to include a waterproof feature for its upcoming devices.

In the report, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has recently granted the Cupertino manufacturer a feature that can help battle moisture ingress and water moisture in smartphones.

The technology reportedly requires coating of internal parts with hydrophobic coating that is as thin as a micron. This can be achieved by placing the component in a chamber filled with fluoropolymer gas.

Then, voltage will be applied, turning the gas into plasma, which in turn sticks to the component.

In the report, while the technology is certainly promising, there are still a number of obstacles that Apple would face along the way. But knowing the Cupertino manufacturer, it will certainly find a way to make this tech happen.

Once the new waterproof technology becomes a part of the iPhone specifications, Apple may also be able to use it for its other devices such as the iPads, or even the MacBooks.

Aside from the waterproof tech, the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7 is rumored to get other upgrades such as 2GB of RAM, an upgraded operating system, the iOS 9, as well as an improved fingerprint sensor, among other things.
