Can Scott Walker Stand Firm on Abortion?

Can Scott Walker Stand Firm On Abortion?

Pro-lifers are concerned about the commitment of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, to ending abortion.

Christian Post Report – In a “Fox News Sunday” interview, Walker said he was pro-life but sounded dipassionate about ending abortion if he were elected president.

During his reelection campaign, host Chris Wallace noted, Walker ran an ad calling abortion an “agonizing choice” and said he supported legislation that “leaves the final decision to a woman and her doctor.”
“Do you believe,” Wallace asked, “that a woman has a right to end a pregnancy at any point during those nine months?”

Shedding Light on #BringBackOurGirls and the Global War on Women

As International Women’s Day approaches, I can’t help but think of the hashtag that set social media worldwide ablaze with protests. Last April, #BringBackOurGirls called the world’s attention to the kidnapping of 276 school girls — taken from the Chibok Government Secondary School in northeast Nigeria by terrorist group Boko Haram.

Shocked and upset by the kidnappings, I participated in one of the real-life protests held in front of the Nigerian Embassy here in Washington, DC. Posting hashtags on twitter just wasn’t enough; I needed to do more.

So I joined a frustrated but peaceful group of demonstrators comprised of people from all walks of life, who were rightfully outraged by this blatant attack on the lives of innocent young girls.

We stood in front of the closed gates of the embassy, with our banners and signs, in earnest hope for solutions. We shared with one another our concerns and why we couldn’t sit back in silence over this issue, in between speakers addressing us as a group. News cameras and reporters on-site were diligent in catching every angle of the event.

But as protestors, our mission was clear; we came to lend our voice to a growing chorus for the immediate release of the Chibok Government school girls. The chants that day rose up with passion: “We Want Action Now!”

Christian Post Report – Protesters march in support of the girls kidnapped by members of Boko Haram in front of the Nigerian Embassy in Washington May 6, 2014.

Our signs lamented 276 Stolen Dreams and showed solidarity, stating We Stand with Chibok. Then we returned to the resounding call to “Bring Back Our Girls!”

It seemed even the most influential woman in the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama, wanted to join in the protest. Apparently she thought the best way to use her voice for this cause was to tweet about it. (Considering her influence and position, many questioned such online activism when more direct action is needed.)

The Nigerian government, U.S. government and the U.N. Special Envoy for Global Education are among those who have renewed their commitment to finding the girls. Yet over 300 days later, a majority of the Chibok school girls are still in captivity.

Rumored to be sold, converted into another religion, or married off to significantly older men, these girls need us to sound the alarm now more than ever for their freedom. Yet where is the social outcry? Where are the prayer vigils, protests or hashtags?

Perhaps, unfortunately, we have gotten used to the fact that girls are going missing in huge numbers all around the world. Because the real war on women begins in the womb.

In India alone, one million girls are intentionally aborted each year because of their gender. Seen as a burden due to an illegal dowry system that is widely practiced, and the fact that traditionally a son is tasked with caring for his parents in their old age while a daughter has little contact with her own family after marriage; has caused a preference for boys and fueled gendercide.

As a result, 50 million girls are missing in India today.

The lack of women has caused a drastic rise in sex trafficking and kidnapping of girls as brides to unwed men. China’s appalling gender imbalance of 33 million more Chinese men than women spawns from over five decades of government-sponsored abortion policies, resulting in one of the most alarming gendercide rates in the world. East Asian countries such as Taiwan and Singapore, along with other former communist countries, also have perplexing gender disparities.

It would be flawed, however, to dismiss gendercide as an Asian or communist countries’ problem. From 1995-2005, fifteen hundred girls went missing among Indian communities in England and Wales. Topic experts agree that sex-selective abortions was the only viable explanation for this steep decline of girls. In the United States between 1991 and 2004, two thousand Chinese and Indian girls were also missing.

And the issue persists today. It’s no wonder women and girls are kidnapped and attacked at alarming rates globally.

If the attempt to silence their voice begins in the womb, the global outcry should begin here for our missing girls. As world leaders mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, let us renew our efforts to advocate and be a voice for all missing girls.

The documentary film It’s A Girl, currently streaming on Netflix, offers a starting point to understand and act to end gendercide:

Battlefield 4 Winter Patch: Squad Obliteration Game Mode Added

battlefield 4 (photo: Battlefield 4 wiki)

Battlefield 4 game cover.

Christian Post Report – Game developer EA Digital Illusions CE, better known as DICE, have already rolled out a much-anticipated update to Battlefield 4 – the Winter Patch.

Fans eagerly anticipated and patiently waited for the download, which was spread across different gaming platforms at a large file size of 1.34GB.

As expected, the reception has been largely positive, with fixes on various bugs, getting rid of errors and repairing online problems.

User interface upgrades are easily seen, such as the soldier camouflage issue where it used to reset to default between rounds. They also added new hit indicators and improved guns’ crosshairs.

These and more are addressed in all consoles.

One of the most popular upgrades still remains to be the addition of a new Squad Obliteration game mode.

This is a welcome upgrade from the original Obliteration game mode, as teams are now made and scaled down to a maximum of five against five.

There are significant differences in this game mode, as compared to its predecessor, specifically that there are no more vehicles or parachute spawns in the game.

Another is that there are secondary base spawns that are available during the match.

To win the round, a team must be the first to wreck two of the three available bases of their opponent.

Finally, the bomb carrier’s position can only be known by the opponent once he is spotted – adding a bit more of a competitive edge for the game mode.

Aside from Squad Obliteration, Quickmatch has also been updated with new features.

New player gating gives new players the chances to play in servers specific to them until they’ve reached rank 10. This gives a more balanced approach and allows new players to be competitive against other Battlefield 4 players.

They have also added a ranked preset support that allows players to join ranked servers.

Finally, they have added three new playlists which include various maps from different expansions.

These are only a few of the changes that have been made with the patch, but the result has produced an even better game that fans will enjoy.

Phyllis Sortor, American Missionary Kidnapped in Nigeria, Is Free

Rev. Phyllis Sortor (Photo: Screencapture/NBC News)

Free Methodist Church missionary, Rev. Phyllis Sortor, was kidnapped in Kogi, Nigeria, on Monday, February 23, 2015.

Christian Post Report – The Rev. Phyllis Sortor, the American Free Methodist Church missionary who was kidnapped by suspected criminal gang members in Nigeria last month with a demand for a $300,000 ransom, was safely released Friday, according an announcement from the church.

“Early evening Nigeria time, Friday, March 6, Phyllis Sortor, Free Methodist missionary to Nigeria, was safely released into the care of authorities and Free Methodist church leaders,” noted David W. Kendall, for the Board of Bishops in a news release to The Christian Post Friday evening.

“It appears she was kidnapped by a criminal gang, and there is no evidence this event is associated with terrorism or religion. Free Methodist leaders express deep appreciation to all who prayed for Sortor’s safe return,” he added.

Sortor was abducted from Hope Academy in Emi Woro, Kogi State, on Monday, February 23 by masked and armed men who later demanded that a $300,000 ransom be paid for her safe return. Her distraught family declared quickly, however, that they had no money to pay for the 71-year-old missionary’s return.

“We are just a working-class family, we don’t have money. That’s not a huge church, they don’t have money. Why they took her, who knows? The people that are doing this stuff, these guys have no backing — they’re just cowards,” the missionary’s stepson Richard Sortor noted in an earlier CP report.

It was unclear from the release whether or not the ransom was paid for the Rev. Sortor’s return. Kendall noted that the details concerning the release would not be discussed publicly.

“As a matter of sound policy, and to help protect the many people who helped secure Phyllis’ freedom, we will have no comment concerning the efforts that were undertaken to secure her release,” he said.

“Sortor was aware there were risks associated with her ministry, but also knew there are very few places in the world without risks and dangers. She recently said, ‘Heaven is for real! There is no guarantee in life; no safe place – other than that place we find ourselves when our full faith and trust is in God!'” he added.

He further noted that Sortor, who spent her childhood in Mozambique, had relocated to Africa after spending many of her adult years in Seattle, Washington.

“Sortor and her husband, Jim, relocated to Rwanda where they ministered for nearly six years. Phyllis and Jim returned to Africa in 2005, this time serving in Nigeria. After Jim’s death in October 2008, she remained in Nigeria where her main focus has been leadership development and International Child Care Ministries, the Free Methodist Church’s child sponsorship program. She has also been instrumental in establishing schools in Kogi State for the children of Fulani herdsmen and in instituting grazing projects as one solution to long-term conflicts between Nigerian farmers and Fulani herdsmen,” said Kendall in the release.

Windows Lumia 640 XL Release Date News, Specs Details: Microsoft Announces Brand New Affordable Mid-Range Smartphone

Nobody expected Microsoft to make any announcements at the Mobile World Congress this year, and so many people were surprised when the Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft giant brought a couple of handsets.

Microsoft Lumia Microsoft Lumia/Facebook/Image

Christian Post Report – The bigger of the two, dubbed as the Lumia 640 XL, is definitely a charmer, with its Nokia-like design and the new tiles version of Windows Phone 8.1. Giving the Microsoft smartphone a closer look puts it as an indirect successor of the Lumia 1320, which was announced last year.

Just like the Lumia 1320, the Lumia 640 XL is a budget device that packs a huge screen. According to the report by Phone Arena, the device features a 5.7-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 1GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 400 SoC.

Also on board is a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie shooter, an 8GB internal memory with microSD card slot, and a 3,000mAh battery. The new Lumia handset will come in two versions – a 3G edition and another that supports LTE connections.

Despite the huge screen and impressive camera department, the Lumia 640 XL will reportedly cost only 189 EUR, which is about $208. Meanwhile, the LTE version is slightly more expensive at 219 EUR ($241).

Given that the Windows 10 for mobile devices will soon launch, the new Lumia may receive the update in the coming months.

Unfortunately, there are no exact details regarding the phone’s availability or official release date.

Peyton Manning Restructures His Contract With the Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning (Photo: Jessica Rinaldi/Reuters)

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos have agreed to a reduced contract for the 2015 season. That means Peyton will play in his 18th season as QB for the Broncos. The deal reduces Peyton’s base salary by $4 million from $19 million to $15 million. He has a chance to earn that money back in incentives, and if the Broncos win the Super Bowl he will have earned his entire original contract. The Broncos need a little salary cap relief to help the team get better.

Christian Post Report – The two sides of this were all saying the right things,

“I’ve been working real hard, and I’m excited to be back with the Denver Broncos,” Manning told the Denver Post. “Can’t wait for April 13 to get here when the team can finally come together. I’m excited to get to work and get to know the new coaches and looking forward to trying to make 2015 a special year.

Broncos General Manager John Elway also said, “We’re excited; we’re excited it’s over. Glad that we can move on, glad that Peyton’s going to be part of this team and hopefully win a championship next year.”

Pro Football Talk thinks that Peyton wanted to get a deal done for more selfish reasons. More than winning another Super Bowl or making a ton of money Peyton is within striking distance of the NFL all time passing record.

“Manning currently has 69,691 passing yards, putting him within striking distance of Brett Favre’s record of 71,838 yards. Assuming Manning stays healthy, he should break Favre’s record some time in the middle of next season,” they stated.

However, this seems like a good move for both team and player. The player gets to come back and still make a ton of money and a team in win now mode gets some salary cap relief to help improve the roster around their star.

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez Reunite to Celebrate Camila Cabello’s 18th Birthday

Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and a few of their famous girlfriends celebrate Camila Cabello’s 18th birthday.

Christian Post Report – It’s been a while since Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were seen together since the Grammy Awards, but the two got together with several of their famous friends in honor of Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello’s 18th birthday.

Along with Swift and Gomez were Jaime King, Sarah Hyland, Hailee Steinfeld, Hayley Williams, the Haim sisters and Joey King. Also in attendance was Gomez’s rumored boyfriend, Zedd.

Cabello posed for pictures wearing a princess crown surrounded by her famous friends. Gomez posted a shot of all the ladies posing by the fireplace on Instagram and captioned it, “Camila_Cabello happy birthday my nugget. #girlsnighttothefullest.”

Meanwhile, Swift posted a shot of Cabello just as she was about to blow out her birthday candles while everyone sang “Happy Birthday.” The “Blank Space” singer wrote, “Happy Birthday!! We all love you so much.”

Cabello is reportedly the newest addition to Swift and Gomez’s ever growing circle of friends. Among the two’s group of friends are models Lily Aldridge, Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. Musicians Lorde, Ed Sheeran, and Ellie Golding are also part of the famous group, as well as actresses Emma Stone, Lena Dunham and Jessica Szohr.

In a latest interview with The Telegraph, Swift talked about how much she appreciates all her friends.

“The thing about my girlfriends right now is that none of them needs me for anything other than friendship,” said the singer.

“I love the fact that they are all passionate about their jobs, whatever their jobs are. A lot of celebrity-type people have this group of people around them where their friends’ main priority is them, and they feel comfortable with that dynamic. I don’t feel comfortable with that dynamic,” she added.

Christian Print Shop Refuses to Make Gay Couple’s Wedding Invites; ‘God Is Our Defense,’ Says Irish Firm

A same-sex wedding cake topper is seen outside the East Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office on Valentine’s Day during a news event for National Freedom to Marry Week in Los Angeles, Calif., Feb. 14, 2012.

Christian Post Report – A printing company based in Ireland has refused to print out invitations for a gay couple’s wedding.

Beulah Print and Design, a business located in Drogheda, garnered headlines earlier this week for declining to print out the invitations for a same-sex couple.

Siobhan M. O’Leary, spokesperson for Beulah, told The Christian Post in an interview Friday that their refusal was a matter of religious conscience.

“We decided not to print Jonathan and John’s wedding invitation … because their decision does not align with our convictions,” O’Leary said in a statement that was shared with CP.

“We have never hidden our faith from our customers and represent the Gospel at every opportunity. We are not against homosexuals, however, we do not support same sex marriage, which printing wedding invitations would do,” the statement continues.

“We believe the love of God is extended to all people and that He has called us all to walk in the light of His word, for He is the way, the truth and the life.”

O’Leary also told CP that workers at Beulah “have often printed jobs for homosexuals” and that feedback for their position has been “mostly from those who support us.”

“We are not opposed to doing business with homosexuals, but we cannot endorse through print same-sex marriage or any other known practice that conflicts with our convictions,” O’Leary said.

Recently Jonathon Brennan, a former customer of Beulah, had requested that the Christian company print out invitations for his gay marriage ceremony.

A 29-year-old salon owner in Drogheda, Brennan told the Irish Independent that he was “infuriated and shocked” by the rejection.

“We’ve been together eight years and we’ve never come across an instance like this. We are hurt and we are very angry,” continued Brennan, who also said that originally Beulah had agreed to do the invitations.

According to the BBC, this is not the first time that Beulah has declined to service a given function due to its incompatibility with their biblical Christian beliefs.

“Mr O’Leary said that 10 years ago, they declined a similar request to print invitations for a gay ceremony abroad,” reported the BBC. ” … they have also refused request to print materials that promote binge drinking, Halloween, ‘borderline pornography’ and what he described as ‘the dark arts.'”

As gay marriage receives legal recognition in a growing number of places, controversies have arisen regarding various businesses declining to service gay weddings.

In the United States, photographers, florists and wedding cake bakers are among those who’ve found themselves in legal trouble as gay couples have sued them for denial of service.

When asked by CP about whether or not Beulah expected legal trouble for their refusal to print the invitations, Siobhan O’Leary responded that “God is our defense.”

“We didn’t expect what has happened since Wednesday, so we don’t know what is ahead. However, we do know that God is our defense,” said Siobhan.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 20: Chris Soules Confirmed as Mystery Contestant

The Bachelor Youtube Screenshot/ file

Chris Soules

Christian Post Report – The mystery contestant of “Dancing with the Stars” season 20 has been revealed, and according to UsWeekly it’s none other than Chris Soules, this year’s star of “The Bachelor.”

On Wednesday March 3, the website revealed that the 33-year old farmer will be on the hit ABC competition.

When the celebrities competing on DWTS were announced on “Good Morning America” on Feb. 24, one name that was not mentioned was the star partnered with dance pro and season 19 winner Witney Carson.

“Her partner couldn’t rose—I mean, rise so early to here,” DWTS host Tom Bergeron said at the time. Fans of the show thought that Bergeron might have been referring to Soules in that statement.

A source told Us Weekly that Soules has been meeting with DWTS producers over the past few weeks. He even reportedly called fellow Bachelor Sean Lowe, a “Dancing with the Stars” alum, for advice.

“He seems like he’s not totally sure what he’s getting himself into! It will be fascinating to see how well he does,” said the source.

Soules will be joining the rest of the star-studded cast including Michael Sam, Nastia Liukin, Riker Lynch, Patti LaBelle, Willow Shields, Robert Herjavec, Redfoo, Charlotte McKinney, Noah Galloway, Rumer Willis, and Suzanne Somers.

ABC is reportedly pulling out all the stops to celebrate the show’s 20th season, which also happens to be its 10th anniversary. It was previously reported that producers will bring back Disney and Latin theme nights and introduce a new Spring Break special night.

Another new element is the addition of all-access cameras in the rehearsal studios, which will be made available on live stream. The Mirror Ball Trophy has also undergone a transformation, changing from the traditional silver to gold for the show’s 10th anniversary.

“Dancing with the Stars” season 20 premieres on March 16 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Teresa Giudice Prison Update: Giudice Reportedly Making Enemies Behind Bars

Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice Eduardo Munoz/Reuters/Photo

Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe

Christian Post Report – Teresa Giudice is famous for her temper and for being outspoken as seen on previous seasons of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” However, the Bravo star’s feisty ways is reportedly causing some trouble while she’s behind bars.

According to a source from InTouch magazine, Giudice has made some enemies behind bars because she “thinks she’s better than everyone else.”

“She acts like the other women are beneath her, and she’s making enemies because of it,” said the insider to the magazine. “She told officials that she was afraid for her life. Once you start complaining about certain prisoners, you become a target. It would be wise of her to stop acting like she’s above everything.”

The source also claims that the reality star is writing a diary documenting her life in prison with the intention of landing a seven figure book deal after she serves her 15-month sentence for fraud.

“She’s documenting everything for her book: who’s sleeping with whom, who’s been caught having sex, even little things like who’s arguing over the flatiron. She’s in a lot of debt and sees it as her opportunity to make a lot of money when she’s released from prison,” the source revealed.

Giudice allegedly uses a pink diary and writes in it every night. The mother of four is said to be guarding the diary “with her life” as she fears that something bad could happen to her, should it fall into the wrong hands.

“She’d be lost without it. She guards it with her life. When she’s finished writing she locks it away—she’s afraid someone will take it. That would be the end of her if someone read it and shared it with everyone else. She already has a target on her back. If that diary falls into the wrong hands, it won’t be pretty,” adds the source.
