Fear of Hindu Extremist Violence Ends Christianity in Village in Northern India

NEW DELHI, December 2, 2019 (Morning Star News) – The gruesome beating of a pastor’s family in northern India last month showed why a woman who was once Christian returned to Hinduism – and joined the mob attacking them.

“I was among the crowd abusing and accusing the Christian family,” the 30-year-old mother, whose name is withheld for security reasons, told Morning Star News.

Led by Hindu extremists in Udham Singh Nagar District in Uttarakhand state, a mob of 60 to 70 mainly female villagers assaulted 28-year-old pastor Sawan Pol’s father, mother, wife and 10-year-old brother in Bagwala village, near the city of Rudrapur, sources said. The pastor’s wife was holding their 6-month-old son during the assault.

Pastor Pol, who was away on ministry visits during the Nov. 8 attack on his home, said the assailants kicked his young brother in the groin.

“Some men were wearing boots – they kicked my little brother on his private parts with the boots on their feet and injured him so badly that he still cries with severe pain every time he urinates,” Pastor Pol said.

His father, 48-year-old Shyama Prasad, sustained internal injuries to his chest, knee, hands and legs and has pain throughout his body, he said.

“They beat my father, mother and wife in such a way that they would not profusely bleed,” Pastor Pol said. “They have sustained…

Local church leader offers prayers after schoolboy killed in crash

Emotional tributes have been paid to a 12-year-old boy who was mowed down as he left school with his friends in what police believe was a deliberate hit-and-run crash.

The pupil, named locally as Harley Watson, suffered fatal injuries after a car hurtled into a crowd of youngsters outside Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex, on Monday afternoon.

Two 15-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 23-year-old woman were also injured, Essex Police said.

A 51-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of murder, six counts of attempted murder and one of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is also accused of six offences of causing serious injury by driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and driving without insurance

The arrest came after detectives appealed to find Loughton man Terry Glover over the incident.

According to the BBC, Rev Chris Davies spent the morning at the school where Harley was a pupil, a church spokesman confirmed.

“It is a very, very difficult event,” he said on Monday.

“It’s not something you expect to happen in a place like Loughton and the number of children who witnessed it were very upset.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families concerned and all at the school.”

Tearful parents and pupils have laid floral bouquets near the entrance to the school.

Church creates ‘Shedvent’ calendar

At St Nicholas Church, Bedhampton from 1st-24th December people are invited to ‘Shedvent’ where the inside of a shed is decorated and people sing or share a Christmas carol in various creative ways.

Organisers Gill and Roger Matthews have recruited church and community groups, including the local primary school, Cubs, Guides, mothers and toddlers group, WI and church groups are all having a go.

The theme is Christmas carols and every day the empty shed is filled with something different. People will be dressed up inside the shed to illustrate ‘Silent Night’, and there will be a recreation of Bethlehem in cardboard for ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’.

Each day at 5pm the shed doors are flung open to reveal that day’s surprise decoration and carol told or sung in various ways reflecting different parts of Christmas.

The rector of Bedhampton, Rev Max Cross told Premier: “We’re serving the community of Bedhampton by sharing God’s love and friendship, which means that we want to share the love of God and remind people as we walk up towards Christmas, we are walking towards the Christ child, we are walking towards Jesus who is our Saviour, who came not just generally for people, but specifically for you.

Greg Abbott responds to ‘God put you in a wheelchair’ tweet: Paying the price to change someone’s life today

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was paralyzed from the waist down in 1984 when an oak tree fell on him as he was jogging in Houston. He has since made overcoming adversity one of the themes of his public life.

For instance, he recently tweeted a video of a young man in a wheelchair climbing an indoor wall with the caption, “Never quit. Never give up. Overcome any challenge.” A person replied, “So great to see but if I ever end up in a wheelchair I’m just ending it.” The governor responded: “That’s what I thought before I ended up in a wheelchair. I’ve done more AFTER the accident that left me paralyzed than before that accident. With God all things are possible.”

Someone then tweeted back to the governor: “God put you in a wheelchair Greg.” Gov. Abbott replied, “God didn’t cause the accident that left me paralyzed, but He did help me persevere over that enormous challenge.”

He added: “I’m a testament that the glory of God is revealed by a young man’s back being broken in half and still rising up to be Governor of Texas. With God all is possible.”

How Luka Doncic changed a boy’s life

Greg Abbott is not the only public figure making news for the right reasons.

Prior to scoring twenty-seven points and leading his team to victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic met with twenty-two-month-old Kris Zudich and his family. The reason: Doncic helped raise more than $2.2 million so the boy could get medical treatment at UCLA for a rare muscle condition.

Three-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Clayton Kershaw and his wife, Ellen, are working with Dallas-based Topgolf and the International Justice Mission (IJM) to raise awareness on modern-day slavery, especially in the area of sex-trafficking. The Kershaws recently traveled to the Dominican Republic with IJM. They operate Kershaw’s Challenge, which benefits schools in West Dallas and Los…

Sustainable Christmas tips, acts of kindness included in Irish Catholic Church online Advent calendar

Archbishop Eamon Martin, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland launched the 2019 online Advent calendar on the Church’s website.

Now in its sixth year, the calendar offers resources for churches, schools and families aimed at helping people to pray and to reflect on how they can keep Christ at the centre of their Christmas preparations.

The interactive Advent calendar has family prayers and suggestions for #LivingAdvent – acts of kindness that all have been encouraged to undertake during the month of December. The calendar also shares tips on how families can care for creation by having a more sustainable Christmas.

Welcoming this year’s Advent calendar Archbishop Eamon said: “The season of Advent marks the beginning of the Catholic New Year and the time of spiritual preparation for the Lord’s coming at Christmas. It is a time of waiting, conversion and hope. Advent also prepares us for the second coming of Christ at the end of time. As Christians, we must always be prepared for the coming of the Lord – ‘You must stand ready because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do no not expect’ [Mt 24:37-44].

“Preparation does not happen at once but over time and so each day of Advent allows us to reflect on the joy of the Gospel. Our online calendar is a helpful resource on this journey. By clicking on the virtual doors each of the days of Advent, we are…

Third Day Singer Mac Powell Asks for Prayer after Wife Is Admitted into the Hospital for Brain Bleed

Third Day Singer Mac Powell Asks for Prayer after Wife Is Admitted into the Hospital for Brain Bleed

Third Day lead singer Mac Powell is asking for prayers for his wife after she was admitted to the hospital for brain bleeding.

According to CBN News, Powell wrote on his Instagram page that his wife, Aimee, was taken to the hospital for a headache. A CT scan found bleeding on her brain that doctors said could be an aneurysm.

“She is going through a procedure right now to find the problem,” he wrote. “The doctors seem optimistic. Please pray!!!”

Powell later posted that Aimee would be kept at the hospital. Doctors were able to stop the aneurysm from bleeding and possibly rupturing.

“Thankful for many friend[s], family, and prayers!” he wrote.

Powell and Aimee met in the marching band at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Atlanta, the Atlanta Magazine reports. They have five children, two of which are adopted.

“We fell fast in love with Rudy (Nasser) and we just started down the road of praying again,” she said in an interview in 2016. “[Adoption] changed our world, turned it upside down, and it has been incredible ever since.”

In 2013, Aimee wrote a guest blog post where she talked about the family’s Christmas traditions.

“Every year on our way home from Thanksgiving in Alabama, our children watch The Polar Express on the TV in our 9 passenger conversion van,” she wrote. “Mac and I…
