Widow of Missionary Killed in Cameroon Forgives Her Husband’s Killer


The widow of a missionary who was killed last month says she forgives the man who shot her husband.


Stephanie Wesco said she “has no bitterness in her soul against anyone.”


Stephanie was riding in a car with her husband Charles Truman Wesco when he was shot in the head during a firefight between separatists and soldiers in Cameroon.


Wesco had eight children.


“We’ve all lost a friend, haven’t we?” said Pastor Randy King at a service for Wesco. “Charles definitely loved the people of Cameroon. So do we, having lived there with those precious people for 30 years. We love the Cameroonians. All of them, including the person who killed Charles.


“We love them because Christ first loved us and came to save us from our sins,” he continued.  


King said Stephanie and her family was praying for the man who shot Wesco.


“We do not know the name of that man. But I pray as a missionary to Cameroon that I or her brother Ben Sinclair might one day have the opportunity to meet Charles’ killer to express our forgiveness to him and in love, seek to lead him to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior that he might also receive God’s forgiveness for what he did.”


In a message to family and friends, Stephanie said that her husband’s life goal was to help “others love Jesus and serve him.”

Will Graham, grandson of the late evangelist Billy Graham, has urged Christians to help victims of the California wildfires, saying that believers “should be the first ones to be responding because we represent the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.”

“I think as Christians, we should be the first ones to be responding because we represent the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and we should be the first ones responding to anybody in need,” Graham told CBN News.

“Pray with them; help with physical needs as well, and there’s going to be a lot of physical needs going forward,” he continued.

California is experiencing the deadliest wildfires in its history, as at least 59 people have died and some 130 people remain unaccounted for, including many in their 80s and 90s. The number of those missing, authorities say, is only expected to rise.

Paul Johnson, who was said to have “issues” with religion, used petrol to ignite the doors of Edinburgh’s

Guru Nanak Sikh Temple and Leith Methodist Church this summer.

He told police he wanted to watch the premises burn down, confessing to officers: “I did it.”

Johnson, 49, admitted two charges of wilful fire-raising, aggravated by religious prejudice, on August 28 when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.

Returning to the court for sentencing on Thursday, judge Lord Boyd described Johnson’s actions as “reckless and wicked”.

He said Johnson appeared to have a “grudge” against religion or religious authority in general, rather than a prejudice against one particular group.

The court heard how during the attack on the Sikh temple, smoke entered the building and put the lives of those inside at risk.

The attack was only carried out when unemployed Johnson happened to come across the building.

The court heard that on the evening of August 27, Johnson bought a container and then fuel worth £3.51 from a local petrol station.

Shortly before 5am on August 28, a man heading to the temple to pray spotted fire had taken hold on one side of one of the doors and immediately raised the alarm with a man sleeping inside in the family quarters.

The fire service was then alerted and 11 firefighters attended to bring the blaze under control.

Dave Ramsey has urged pastors to refrain from preaching sermons about tithing “to broke people” — unless they first address debt and budgeting from the pulpit.

During a recent interview, the CEO of Ramsey Solutions and author of Financial Peace University, said that he regularly tells pastors to stop stressing the importance of tithing to congregants who aren’t good stewards of their money.

“Unless,” he clarified, “you’ve done two sermons on … debt — one on getting out of debt and one on getting on a budget.”

“That’s the ratio for me instead of just tithe, tithe, tithe,” he said. But when pastors fail to address debt and setting a budget, he said, the reaction to a sermon about tithing is often “yeah right, I’ve got a light bill. That’s a great spiritual concept. Maybe someday I’ll get around to that.'”

Getting out of debt leads to giving, the financial expert said, “Because if you’re out of debt and on a budget and you love Jesus, I think tithing is a natural thing that occurs.”

Still, Ramsey detailed his “incredible love of pastors,” describing most of them as “underappreciated” and “underpaid,” adding that pastors “could take that same skill set in the marketplace in most cases and make more money.”

Court Considers: Can Gov’t Ban Christian Schools from Praying at State Championships?


A federal appeals court is considering whether Christian private schools can be banned from offering a public prayer over the loudspeakers if the game is a state-run championship. 


The controversy began in 2015 when Cambridge Christian School in Florida advanced to the state 2A division championship game against University Christian School. Both schools wanted to offer a pre-game prayer over the loudspeakers in following with their home stadium tradition, but the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) — which ran the event — declined their request. The game was played at Camping World Stadium (then called the Citrus Bowl) in Orlando. 


Cambridge Christian School sued the FHSAA and lost at the district level but appealed to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which heard the case in September. Both sides are now awaiting a decision. 


First Liberty Institute is representing the school.


“Just think about how far the consequences go,” First Liberty said in a post on its website this month. “If state officials can discriminate against two private, Christian schools and prevent them from praying in public, it won’t be long before they pick and choose other types of speech to censor. And so we ask: Where does this assault on free speech stop?”


The appeals court is one level below the U.S. Supreme Court.

On a day when two Cabinet ministers quit and the leading Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg submitted a letter of no confidence in Mrs May, David Drew said Mrs May deserved to be treated as “a human being”.

 

He told Premier: “I think she’s wrong [on the draft Brexit deal] and I think that she’s led herself up the garden path but I do pray that, as an individual, people are respectful to her.

 

“It’s going to be a terribly difficult time. I mean, some quite hurtful things were said to her today; I have to say, mainly from her own side.”

Topic: Thanks for Who God Is [Our Daily Bread 16 November 2018 Devotional]

Read: Psalm 95:1–7, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 3–4; Hebrews 11:20–40

Let us come before him with thanksgiving . . . for the Lord is the great God. Psalm 95:2–3

Among the thousands of sentiments printed on greeting cards, perhaps one of the most touching is this simple statement: “Thanks for being you.” If you receive that card, you know that someone cares for you not because you did something spectacular for that person but because you’re appreciated for your essence.

I wonder if this kind of sentiment might indicate for us one of the best ways to say “thank you” to God. Sure, there are times when God intervenes in our lives in a tangible way, and we say something like, “Thank You, Lord, for allowing me to get that job.” But most often, we can simply say, “Thank You, God, for being who You are.”

That’s what’s behind verses like 1 Chronicles 16:34: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Thank You, God, for who You are—good and loving. And Psalm 7:17: “I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness.” Thank You, God, for who You are—the holy One. And “Let us come before him with thanksgiving . . . for the Lord is the great God” (Psalm 95:2–3). Thank You, God, for who You are—the Almighty God of the universe.

Who God is. That’s reason enough for us to stop what we’re doing and praise and thank Him. Thank You, God, for just being You!

Prayer: Thank You, dear God, for being who You are—the Almighty God who loves us and welcomes our love in return. Thank You for everything that makes You magnificent. We stand in awe of You as we praise You with word and song.

There are countless reasons to thank God, including for who He is!

INSIGHT
In Psalm 95, the psalmist is transfixed by the wonder of the Creator and Redeemer he loves. God is the “Rock of our salvation”; nothing can remove the sure foundation His love has laid out for us (v. 1). Even though the psalmist knows there’s only one God, because of the polytheistic culture in which he lives he exclaims that his God is far above any other objects of worship (v. 3). The wonder of the Creator drives the psalmist to invite all believers to bow down in adoration and to realize that like sheep we are under a loving Shepherd’s care.

How can you praise the Lord for His marvelous creation and infinite love?

Thought For The Day: Do not be afraid of daring the undareable if the Blessing of God is upon you.

Recorded events in the Scripture and diverse experiences of life have made it clear that it takes a greater force, which is the force of God’s Blessing, to overcome the forces working against one’s fulfilment in life.

In Genesis Chapter Eleven, the Bible makes it clear that Abraham’s father, Terah, was going to Canaan but he died on the way, in the land of Haran. He had three sons: Nahor, Abram, and Haran, the father of Lot. Haran died before his father. Nahor existed without relevance. So, in their family, they had the trinity of setbacks – starting without finishing, living without relevance and dying before time or premature death. That trinity of calamity was in existence in Abraham’s family before the Blessing came upon him, exempted him, distinguished him and made him the first to fulfil destiny. So, the Blessing of God in the life of a person forbids the existence of embargoes. It empowers the blessed to exist as barrier breakers, obstacle crossers, limit overcomers and territory takers. It also establishes the blessed as generational pace setters, standard bearers and reference points.

Beloved, when the Blessing is upon you, you reach where no one in your family has reached. So, do not be afraid of daring the undareable if the Blessing of God is upon you.

Today, I declare to you that where your family members have never reached in life, you are reaching there by the power of the Blessing, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: Do not be afraid of daring the undareable if the Blessing of God is upon you.

Assignments:
1. Always believe that your case is different.
2. Dare the impossible and hold unto the Word of God concerning your life for a breakthrough.
3. Refuse to confess negatively; be positivistic, enthusiastic and optimistic.

Gospel Hall of Fame Composer Kurt Kaiser Dies at 83


Gospel Music Hall of Fame composer Kurt Kaiser passed away this week at the age of 83, after battling a lengthy illness.


According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, Kaiser, who wrote songs such as “Pass It On” and “Oh How He Love You and Me” passed away on Monday at his home in Waco, Texas.


The Gospel music legend is survived by his wife Pat, four children, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister and three brothers, The Christian Post reports. 


Kaiser was born in Chicago, Illinois, where studied at the American Conservatory of Music and earned two degrees from Northwestern University.


The composer then moved to Waco in 1959, where he joined Word, Inc., a Christian record and entertainment company, as their Director of Artists and Repertoire and later became the Vice President and Director of Music.


Kurt also fostered a close relationship with the Christian college, Baylor University, where. he conducted the Baylor Religious Hour Choir for five years.


Having composed approximately 300 copyrighted songs in his lifetime, Kaiser had a knack for finding artists strengths. In an interview with Baylor Magazine in 2017, Kaiser said, “I know what singers like to sing, what kinds of swoops they like to take, what kind of lyrics they like, and I learned a lot of that at Word.”
