But thou, O man of God….fight the good fight of faith. – 1 Timothy 6:11-12

When you’re up against the wall, don’t start begging God to break through it for you. That’s not the way He works. He’ll give you the plan. He’ll give you the power. And He’ll guarantee the victory. But your hand, not His own, is the instrument He’s going to use to get the job done. You’re going to have to stretch forth your hand by speaking and acting on the Word, even when circumstances are against you.

God gave me a striking revelation of that over 20 years ago through a vision He gave me in Beaumont, Texas. I was preparing to minister in a service there, spending some time in prayer, when suddenly I saw myself standing in the pulpit of the church. Looking up, I saw a dragon—a horrible, ugly thing—poke his head through the front door of the church.

As he came into the church, his body expanded like a balloon, filling the whole room. He was snorting fire and smoke. When, in the vision, he turned it on me, he almost burned my clothes!

As I fell back onto the floor, I saw Jesus standing nearby with a sword in His hand. Why doesn’t He do something about this? I thought. Can’t He see I’m hurting?

But He didn’t move. He just stood by with a frown on His face. I could tell He was really put out with me. The Bible says God was not pleased with those who were overthrown in the wilderness (1 Corinthians 10:5). And He wasn’t pleased with me either as I lay there on my back in defeat.

Then Jesus held out the sword to me and pointed at the dragon. The look on His face said, Get up!

I reached up to catch hold of the sword, and an instant before I touched it, Jesus turned it loose.

The sword stayed in midair of its own accord. I grabbed it and began to pull myself up. Not only did it hold firm, but it began to lift me!

I stood and touched the dragon’s chin with my sword and it split him from one end to the other. It laid him open right before my eyes. In amazement, I looked down at the sword. Why haven’t I used this before? I thought.

Don’t wait for God to slay the dragon in your life. You have the sword of the Spirit, the all-powerful Word of the living God, at your fingertips. Pick it up and use it today!

Christian climate change activists arrested outside Downing Street

Ruth Jarman, 55, Phil Kingston, 82, Fr Martin Newell, 51, Richard Barnard, 45, and Nick Cooper, 36, used spray paint cans to write messages that called for a zero carbon future.

Shortly before his arrest, Richard Barnard said: “I decided to take part on behalf of all the people around the world who are already suffering the effects of climate change.

 

“Of course I’d rather not be here today; I would rather be at home. However, I have the privilege of being able to speak out for justice and I will do that for those around the world who don’t have that luxury.”

The group also attempted to block the entrance to Downing Street and Jarman used glue to stick herself to railings, before being removed by police.

The Extinction Rebellion protest was one of a series that happened across the capital yesterday.

Christian Climate Action

 

The group had previously declared a fortnight of planned protests they described as ”the rebellion’ after the government failed to agree to their demands by 12th November which included declaring a state of emergency around climate change.

Kingston, 82 who is a Christian Climate Action member, was led away two weeks ago by police without being arrested after lying in the road outside parliament for several hours.

Those involved with the ‘rebellion’ have said the movement is “prepared to risk arrest in order to ensure the world avoids climate breakdown”.

Matthew 26:55 “In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.”

The four gospels refer to Jesus teaching 43 times, preaching 19 times, and preaching and teaching in the same verse, six times. This indicates that Jesus spent twice as much time teaching as He did preaching. Teaching is the basic building block for making disciples. Jesus was making disciples, not just converts.

The Greek word for “disciple” literally means “a learner,” and indicates “learning by endeavor” or what we would call “on-the-job training.” Jesus said in John 8:31, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” Anyone who meets this criterion is Jesus’ disciple.

“Jailhouse religion,” where a person is only sorry he got caught and is trying to get out of a bad situation, will not produce true discipleship. It takes a forsaking of all to be Jesus’ disciple. Jesus wants us to “count the cost.” It is definitely a commitment.

What the Lord has started in you, He will also continue and complete. That is not to say that your success will be automatic; we have to cooperate with what God is wanting to do in our lives. Our faithfulness may always be suspect, but God’s faithfulness is never in question. It is always God’s will to continue and complete the good work He began in us.

On campus the quickest way to security is through the crowd. Precisely where students talk about being independent and on their own, you will find them practicing the most rigid conformity in dress, in speech, in moral attitudes, and in thinking. Sometimes they follow fashion at the expense of integrity. They dread to be alone. They do not want to stand out or be different. They want to conform.

After they graduate from college, many of these young people want nothing more than a good job with a big firm, and a home somewhere in suburbia. But they don’t find security then either. Only Jesus Christ can give you the security that you are looking for.

Prayer for the day: Long-sought-after security I found only in Your abiding love, my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Nations Fear the Shrinking Number of Young People Having Sex


The Atlantic recently published an article highlighting nations’ fears over the shrinking number of young people having sex. 


According to The Atlantic, more Americans than ever before believe that sex between unmarried adults is “not wrong at all.” Still, the percentage of young adults having sex has gone down significantly. 


Reportedly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that the percentage of high-school students who’d had intercourse has gone down from 54 to 40 percent from 1991 to 2017. Additionally, they found that the number of young adults in their 20s who are having sex has gone down noting that “fewer people have been marrying, and those who do have been marrying later.”


The article asks if this is a result of unmarried cohabitation, but to researchers’ surprise, they found that “the share of people living together hasn’t risen enough to offset the decline in marriage.” They found that “about 60 percent of adults under age 35 now live without a spouse or a partner. One in three adults in this age range live with their parents, making that the most common living arrangement for the cohort.” According to The Atlantic, young adults who live with their parents are having sex at lower rates.

MP cites PM’s poor response to Asia Bibi case as one reason for resignation

The MP for Gillingham & Rainham, Rehman Chishti, firstly cited the Brexit negotiations as reason for resigning, saying it does not deliver on the promises to the British people or the Conservative manifesto. 

Chishti then writes: “The second point which brings me to write this letter is the manner in which the Government has dealt with the case regarding Asia Bibi. This is a case that I have worked on passionately since 2012, alongside Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, the Former Bishop of Rochester, to ensure that justice is done which was handed down by the Pakistan Supreme Court only recently.

“What I found shocking, is that the British Government is failing to put into practise the core values that our country stands for; religious freedom, justice, morally doing the right thing, and that when we see injustice where an individual’s life is in clear danger and they have been persecuted for their faith, we do all that we can to help them. 

“The Government should not wait to see if another country offers sanctuary, we should have had the conviction to lead on this matter and offer sanctuary ourselves straight away.”

Christian MPs react to Theresa May’s Brexit plans

One said the proposed deal “does deliver the Brexit people voted for”, while another claimed Theresa May had “failed to take back control” from the European Union.

The Conservative MP, Gary Street told Premier the plans represented “a good deal and the right deal” and he applauded Mrs May for acting “in the national interest”.

 

He said: “If we don’t go for this deal, there are only two other options; one is that we leave the EU with no deal, which could be catastrophic for our economy.

“Secondly, we have a second referendum and end up remaining completely in the EU, and those people who voted to leave in 2016 would rightly be rather furious about that.”

But the Labour MP, Alex Cunningham said the prime minister has found herself in a”very precarious position”.

He continued: “If anything, we’ve handed control over to the EU with this particular agreement; it seems that we’re going to be bound by EU rules for who knows how many years.

New research reveals that while pastors routinely face questions about sexuality issues, particularly areas of pain and brokenness, few feel qualified to speak to them.

The survey — Sexuality & the Church in America I: Are Pastors Responding to Sexual Challenges Within the Church? — which was released Wednesday and explores how American pastors are addressing sexual issues within their congregations was based on research conducted by Barna Group on 410 senior Protestant pastors. The research was sponsored by The Brushfires Foundation, True North Freedom Project and Covenant Eyes.

Results showed that 99 percent of pastors surveyed dealt with at least one question about sexuality in the past year, and 27 percent handled 13-18 different issues brought by church members or staff.

Scottish church leaders urge Government to offer Asia Bibi asylum

Figures including Rt Rev Susan Brown (pictured below), the moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, warned Sajid Javid the threat to Asia Bibi is “real”.

In an open letter, they said: “Asia was acquitted on 31st October, 2018.

 

“Although she has been reportedly reunited with her husband and three children, she needs round-the-clock protection as Tehreek-e-Labbaik (an Islamist political party in Pakistan) has called for her to be hanged and there have been several cases of extra-judicial killings of people charged with blasphemy in Pakistan.”

The note, which was also signed by Most Rev Leo Cushley, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh, says the treatment of Ms Bibi highlights the “dangers” believers in Pakistan face.

It continues: “The threat to Asia and her family and supporters is real.

Church of Scotland

 

“The root cause is, of course, Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and we urge the UK Government to do all in their power to advocate for these laws to be amended to prevent their misuse and to promote tolerance and harmony between faith communities.”

Protestors blocked key roads in major cities when Pakistan’s Supreme Court cleared Ms Bibi last month of allegations that she had insulted Islam’s prophet Mohammad.
