Sudanese Church Forced to Turnover Property, 13 Christians Arrested

Sudanese Church Forced to Turnover Property, 13 Christians Arrested

After the arrest of thirteen Christians in the western part of Darfur, a state-appointed committee has demanded that a church in Omdurman turn over its properties.

According to Christian News, Sudanese security arrested thirteen Christians on Saturday from a house they had gathered at. Three people have been released so far, but it’s unclear what the charges are for the others.

Church leader Tajaldin Idriss Yousif was arrested along with church members: Alfadil Ismail Alnil, Ahmed Mohammed Hassan, Neseraldin Osman, Shemen Ahmed Shemen and Abubaker Biri.

Law allows the National Intelligence and Security Services to hold people in detention for up to four and a half months before they can be released or charged.

“We are worried because their whereabouts are still unknown,” said one source. “The Christians gathered as one body of Christ from different denominations.”

Meanwhile, another church in Sudan is being forced to hand over its land.

“The Omdurman police summoned the church’s leader on Monday [8 October] and ordered him to hand over leadership of the congregation to a rival committee,” a local source told World Watch Monitor.

“They want the congregation to vacate their compound.”

Other churches are also battling with the government over ownership of its properties. Many have faced fines and even closure.

XXXchurch’s Craig Gross Counsels Christians Who Keep Failing to Quit Porn

Expand | Collapse
(Screenshot: xxxchurch.com)Craig Gross, pastor and founder of XXXchurch.com.

Pastor Craig Gross of XXXchurch has offered advice to people who say they keep trying harder but failing to quit pornography.

Gross, who leads a Christian ministry that helps men and women deal with pornography addiction, challenged some misconceptions when it comes to the struggle, and suggested that people who think they have really tried to quit, but are not doing the right things, are setting themselves up for failure.

“Who in your life that you know can you write that email to, or make that phone call to, that can actually do something about it?” he asked, in reference to asking for help.

“Have you shared personally about this with your spouse, with your friend?”

The pastor gave examples from his everyday life of people who say they have tried accomplishing things, but in reality are not taking the right measures.

When it comes specifically to getting help for porn addiction, Gross noted that “people sign up, they say they have watched a video or joined a group,” but “the ones who actually have changed are the ones who haven’t missed a meeting, the ones that even when the struggle is behind them, they are still showing up to support other people inside their community.”

Gross…

Christian environmental charity backs MPs call for faster diesel and petrol ban

Any vehicle built will have to be zero emissions by 2040, but the Business Committee has said that should be 2032 instead.

Reacting to the group’s request, Ruth Jarmin from Christian charity Operation Noah told Premier: “They’re very clear what they think about the current policy.

“They call it ‘vague’ and ‘unambitious’ which is exactly the opposite of what we need considering the serious situation we’re in in terms of climate change.”

Ministers must also “get a grip” and tackle a lack of charging points, which is one of the main barriers to people buying electric cars, the Parliamentary Business Committee warned.

The Government has outlined a goal for an end to sales of new “conventional” petrol and diesel cars by 2040 as part of efforts to clean up transport which causes air pollution and is the worst sector for carbon emissions in the UK.

Jarmin has an electric car herself and explained why more people should buy them.

“It’s lovely driving past people, waving at them, saying hello and knowing that we’re not actually reducing the life expectancy by the fumes that we put into the air as we’re driving along,” she added.

A range of cars are beginning to replace conventional vehicles from electric models powered by a battery charged from the grid to hybrids with an engine and a small battery which charges from braking but…

As Refugee Admissions Drop, Fewer Persecuted Christians Admitted to US: World Relief

As Refugee Admissions Drop, Fewer Persecuted Christians Admitted to US: World Relief

(RNS) — The number of Christian refugees coming to the United States from the countries where Christians are most persecuted has dropped dramatically under President Trump’s administration.

That comes despite the president’s pledge during his first week in office that helping persecuted Christians overseas would be a priority for his administration.

According to a new analysis by Matthew Soerens of World Relief, an evangelical Christian organization with a long history of resettling refugees, the number of Christian refugees admitted to the U.S. from countries noted for their persecution dropped nearly 79 percent between fiscal years 2016 and 2018.

A total 1,215 Christian refugees were welcomed from those countries in fiscal 2018, Trump’s first full year in office, which ended Sept. 30. That’s a drop from 5,731 in fiscal 2016, former President Obama’s last full year in office, which Soerens said was a “uniquely high time for refugee resettlement.”

“This dynamic with persecuted Christians and religious minorities, in particular, does not fit the campaign rhetoric, and it’s not consistent with the focus on international religious freedom that I think is an admirable goal,” Soerens said.

Soerens based his analysis on numbers from the U.S. State Department’s Refugee Processing Center and the 11 countries where Open Doors USA…

Christian Witch Claims Christ Followers Can Practice Witchcraft, Despite Biblical Warnings

(Photo: Instagram)Christian witch Rev. Valerie Love (in hat) and a group of students at The Covenant of Christian Witches Mystery School in Salem, Mass., on October 1, 2018.

Despite biblical warnings against the practice of witchcraft, the Rev. Valerie Love, who describes herself as a practicing Christian witch and an ordained minister of spiritual consciousness, is insisting that there is nothing wrong with Christians being witches and has recently launched a school to help Christians tap into magic.

“Stop thinking you can tell people how to worship. Stop thinking you can tell people how to connect with the divine. I could tell you how many people have told me, ‘You can’t be a Christian witch’ but here I am. See, you can’t tell me how to worship. You cannot tell me how to connect with the divine. That’s between me and God. You cannot tell me how to pray,” a defiant Love declared in a recent rant on Facebook.

She explained that she was “born a witch” but was forced to stifle her identity as a Jehovah’s Witness from age 4 to 30 when she finally left the “cult.”

“Where do we get off believing that we can actually dictate to other people how they worship. … It’s not our lane,” Love said. “I was born a witch and I love it. I’m so thankful. People are afraid of the word…

Christians Need to Have a ‘Theology For Sadness,’ Says Gospel Coalition Pastor

(Screenshot: live1.thegospelcoalition.org/live)Alistair Begg, senior pastor at Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio and the Bible teacher on “Truth for Life,” giving remarks at The Gospel Coalition’s West Coast Conference in Fullerton, California on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.

Christians shouldn’t neglect having a “theology for sadness,” said Ohio-based Pastor Alistair Begg at The Gospel Coalition’s West Coast Conference.

Begg, the Scottish senior pastor at Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Bible teacher on the “Truth for Life” program, gave a speech Thursday at the conference that was focused on 2nd Timothy 4:1–8.

Beginning his speech with the statement that “there is nothing like the prospect of death to clarify the issues of life,” Begg explained that while writing 2nd Timothy, the Apostle Paul was “identifying the fact that he is on his way out.”

“He refers to his passing as his departure, his analusis, a favorite word in Greek at the time for the unyoking of an oxen or for the drawing of an anchor or the taking down of a tent,” explained Begg.

“He realizes that the baton of faith needs to be passed on to another generation. His gaze is on his young lieutenant, Timothy. And he is able to let him know, surely for his great encouragement, that God has sustained…

Portsmouth diocese seeks £9.1m investment to help its mission and ministry

It wants to invest £9.1m into parishes over the next five years, with the hope half of the cash will be funded by the national Church.

Sharing what’s behind their investment plans, Venerable Joanne Grenfell, Archdeacon of Portsdown told Premier: “We really want to invest in mission and ministries so that there are really exciting forms of worship and outreach in schools and with families and children that people find really possible to engage with so that they can grow in their faith.

“We also want to make a bigger difference by social outreach so more support for ministries through foodbanks, counselling…all of the work that’s really important for serving the community.”

The plans are part of the diocese’s new strategy which includes the creation of multiple new congregations and working in brand new ways to serve those it has traditionally been poor at engaging with.

The diocese wrote in a statement that once new churches are planted and a network of innovative ministers is created, then younger people, those in urban areas and people on brand new housing developments will be encouraged to connect with churches.

The diocese hopes the project will be funded over the next five years by £3.75m in reallocation of existing resources, £450,000 from diocesan reserves and £4.9m from the national Church.

The Six Characteristics of a Scrappy Church

Podcast Episode #477

SUBSCRIBE:
iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play • iHeart Radio • Spotify

My latest book, Scrappy Church, was written to offer hope to churches who think they may not have a future. God is not done with your church yet.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • God has put you at your church for a reason.
  • If a church refuses to define reality and change, it will likely not fulfill its Kingdom potential.
  • Churches shouldn’t see their community or their resources as limitations but as opportunities for ministry.
  • Instead of worrying about what we don’t have, we need to take what God has given us and do something with it.
  • Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s moving forward in spite of fear.

The six transitions scrappy church leaders have to make are:

  1. Excuses to Ownership
  2. Obstacles to Allies
  3. Limitations to Abundance
  4. Despair to Joy
  5. Fear to Courage
  6. Impossible to Possible

Israeli Supreme Court Rules U.S. Student Barred from Entering Israel Can Stay

Israeli Supreme Court Rules U.S. Student Barred from Entering Israel Can Stay

A U.S. student who was prohibited from entering Israel has been allowed to stay in the country, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

According to Reuters, Lara Alqasem will be allowed into Israel, reversing the Israeli officials’ decision to deny her from entering the country under its law against foreign activists who support boycotts of the state.

The court ruled that the decision to bar Alqasem represented “a radical and dangerous step that could lead to the crumbling of the foundations upon which Israel’s democracy is built.”

Alqasem had flown to Israel on a study visa on Oct. 2. Officials said she could not enter the country because of her previous role as the president of a local University of Florida chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine.

“This is a 22-year-old who definitely cannot be in support of an academic boycott,” Alqasem’s attorney Leora Bechor said before the decision. “She wants to study here.”

Alqasem appealed her denial and the Supreme Court took the case. She had planned to enroll at an Israeli university.

Alqasem has not released a statement on the court’s ruling, except telling reporters she was “relieved” at the decision.

It’s unclear if Israel will try to appeal the ruling.

“We will examine the legal criteria in order to ensure that the original intent of the law is…

RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 21 October 2018, Lesson 8

TOPIC: Partners (Not Staff) In Christian Service [RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 21 October 2018]

MEMORY VERSE: “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” – John 15:15 (scroll down for RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL 21 OCTOBER 2018 HYMN)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 (RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 21 October 2018)

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

INTRODUCTION:

By definition, a partner is a person who takes part in an undertaking with another or others, especially in a business or firm with shared risk and profits. A staff is an employee of an organisation. Unlike the contemporary workplace, believers are expected to be partners together with Christ. Our commitment should be motivated by reward/wages as staff but as partners.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Joint-heirs with Christ
2. Co-labourers on earth

JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST

The term heirs of God emphasises our relationship to God the Father. As His children, we have full rights to receive His inheritance (Romans 8:17; 1 Peter 1:4). Salvation in Christ affords Christians ‘’sonship’’ status in God’s kingdom and being sons, we have the same privileges with Christ (John 1:12-13; Romans 8:14-17). Just as God created man and gave him life to serve in the garden (Genesis 2:7,15), salvation through Christ guarantees a new life and brings believers into the place of service in God’s vineyard (2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Peter 2:9). The Father works and so, does the Son (John 4:34; 5:17; 9:4). The Son imitates the Father so believers as joint-heirs with Christ must also walk in His footsteps (John 5:19-20; 14:12). Being joint-heirs with Christ, we are also partners with Him in God’s vineyard (John 15:15).

CO-LABOURERS ON EARTH
All believers in Christ are bought with the same price, baptised into the same Spirit and live by the same commandment (1 Corinthians 12:13). We should labour together with Christ in God’s vineyard. All believers should use their God-given gifts and talents to serve, working together with Christ for one purpose, the edification of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13). Another reason we must collaborate as partners is because the harvest is plenteous (Luke 10:2).

Believers should note that rather than making demands for benefits or rewards for services rendered, God’s children, as partners, should hope in the sure reward that comes from God (Colossians 3:23-25; 1Corinthians 3:8-9).

CONCLUSION:
Christian service is our Father’s business and being joint-heirs with Christ, we must see ourselves as partners in the venture rather than employees whose utmost interest lies in the wage. We must focus on Heaven and please God by making sacrifices in the cause of the Kingdom business.

QUESTIONS:
1. Mention four attributes that make believers joint-heirs with Christ.

2. Identify three reasons believers should co-labour with Christ as partners in God’s vineyard.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL 21 OCTOBER 2018 HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day, Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
