Sickness forces ‘much-loved’ bishop to step down

Details of a farewell service for Bishop Richard will be revealed soon, the Church in Wales said.

Archbishop of Wales, John Davies commented: “Bishop Richard has been a faithful and much-loved priest to those he has served and a valued colleague to myself and the other bishops.

“I ask for your prayers for him and his wife Julie as they prepare for his retirement, and also for the Diocese as it embarks on an interregnum.”

Sickness had forced Bishop Richard to take a leave of absence from his duties for several months.

Oversight of the diocese will now be the responsibility of Archbishop John (pictured below) until a successor is chosen.

Archbishop John added: “The extended absence of a key, senior colleague brings additional pressures to others, and I am grateful to the senior staff team and those others who have taken on additional tasks and responsibilities during this time.

“I would also like to thank parishioners for the patience and understanding they have shown.”

After training at the Anglican theological college, St Michael’s in Llandaff, Bishop Richard started his ministry as a curate in Caldicot 34 years ago.

He served as parish priest in Six Bells and…

TOPIC—Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled: Believe In God

READ: John 14: 1-14 New King James Version (NKJV)

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

THE MESSAGE:

An author once said that Tough times do not last, but tough people do. Every problem in life has a lifespan and expires ultimately. Are you surrounded by storms of life: hardship, persecution, disappointment, etc.? Jesus says, “Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God”. When you believe in God with tested and unshakable faith, you enter into the arena of being a victor and not a victim because faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

All you need is a heart-deep revelational knowledge of God and not mere head knowledge. With faith in Jesus, you will see God in action. Then, you can ask and receive in His name (John 14:13-14).
Your belief in God is authenticated when you practise the word of God. Hence, no need for anxiety. In the same vein, if your faith waivers not, the Lord Jesus Christ has promised to take you home to be with Him (John.14:2&3).

Therefore, take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness, deceitfulness of riches and cares of this life, and that day comes upon you as a snare (Luke 21:34).

Prayer: God, grant us peace and absolute tranquility in the storms of this life in Jesus Name

Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them accordingly…. — Romans 12:6 (AMP)

We all have different gifts, but we shouldn’t compare or be jealous of the gifts of others.

I remember hearing one preacher talk of how often he saw Jesus. I had never seen Jesus, so I wondered what was wrong with me.

Another person I knew prayed four hours every morning. I could not find enough to pray about to keep praying for four hours and always ended up bored and sleepy, so I wondered what was wrong with me.

I had no gift to remember large portions of Scripture like someone I knew, who memorized all the Psalms and Proverbs as well as other entire books of the Bible, so I wondered what was wrong with me.

I finally realized that nothing was wrong with me.

Whatever we cannot do, there are many other things we can. Whatever someone else can do, there are also things they cannot. Don’t let Satan deceive you any longer. Don’t compare yourself with anyone in any way, especially not spiritually.

We can see other people’s good examples and be encouraged by them, but they must never become our standard. Even if we learn how to do something from them, we still will not do it exactly the same way.

At some time or another, I think we all fall into the trap of wondering why we are not like others we know or why we don’t have the same experiences they do, but it is a trap—and a dangerous one. We are caught in a snare set by Satan when we enter into spiritual competition and comparison, and we become dissatisfied with what God is giving to us.

We should trust that God will do the best thing for each of us and let Him choose what that is. If we trust God in this way, we can lay aside our fears and insecurities about ourselves.

I am sure we would all like to see into the spiritual realm and have an abundance of supernatural experiences, but getting frustrated if we don’t only steals our peace, and certainly does not produce visions of Jesus.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for making me a special individual with unique gifts and talents. Help me today and every day to be the best me I can be. Help me to also love and appreciate others for their unique gifts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

From Joyce Meyer’s Ministries.

The Value of Words – Rhapsody of Realities 1 May 2019

Rhapsody of Realities 1 May 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – The Value Of Words

Topic: The Value Of Words

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned (Matthew 12:36-37).

The greatest gift given to human beings is the gift of speech. I would to God every person on the face of the earth knew that! Blessed is the man or woman who has discovered this profound reality!

Think about it: the world was made by words. All of creation is the result of words; all of God’s blessings are delivered by and through words. When God made it possible for man to use words, He gave man the greatest gift possible, because that’s what makes us like God.

God creates with words. When the earth was a chaotic mass, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, God didn’t enlist or engage the angels for a ground-breaking or earth-reconstruction project; He spoke words. He spoke creation into being in Genesis 1. Therefore, having made us in His image (to look like Him), and in His likeness (to function like Him), we create with words just like Him.

The Kingdom of God, to which we belong, is a Kingdom of words; therein, we live and reign by words. It’s about what you say. If you talk right, your life will be right. If you talk negatively, your life will be in jeopardy.

Proverbs 15:4 says, “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” The Lord Jesus further emphasizes this in Mark 11:23, saying, “You shall have what you say.”

Recall in the Book of Genesis that God was called the “Voice”; the voice of the Lord was heard walking in the garden in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). Voice is nothing without speech or words. When you understand this, you’ll never speak empty, inoperative words. You’ll use words correctly. You’ll only speak words of blessings, words of life, words that build and lift others; words that inspire faith, hope, and love in others.

CONFESSION
I speak wholesome, life-giving and excellent words; words that are consistent with the glorious life I have in Christ. I walk in health, strength, and vitality. I make supernatural progress, I win always, and I’m productive in all that I do. Glory to God!

Matthew 14:16, ‘But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.’

Matthew 14:15-18

The disciples were using natural reasoning and recognized that they didn’t have the ability to minister to the multitude’s need for food. Jesus did have the ability and the willingness to minister to their needs, so the multitude did not need to depart. All of their needs could be met through Jesus.

The same thing is true today. Some disciples today are sending the multitudes to the world to meet their physical needs (finances, health, counseling, etc.) and proclaiming that God only meets spiritual needs. But, ‘they need not depart.’ The Lord is willing and able to heal our bodies, prosper us financially, or counsel us from His Word in any area of our life where we might have need.

Before we can be a blessing, we have to be blessed (Gen. 12:2). One of the purposes of God’s prosperity in our lives is so that we can be a blessing to others. The Scriptures instruct us to walk in God’s love towards all men, believers and non-believers alike. Jesus told us to love our enemies (Mt. 5:44). In Galatians 6:10 Paul places a priority on helping fellow Christians. This does not diminish our responsibility to show God’s love to non-believers. Instead, Paul is simply saying ‘charity must start at home.’ It would be hypocritical to step over hurting brothers and sisters in the Lord to find unbelievers to minister to.

God didn’t just give us something that He had; He gave Himself. And what was God’s motive for giving? It wasn’t because of His need, but ours. He was motivated out of love for us (Jn. 3:16). In the same way, we should be encouraged to give unselfishly of ourselves. Pray for Divine appointments, to be used of God to touch someone’s life today.

Text: Leviticus 16:1-19 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother; that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat” (Leviticus 16:2).

MESSAGE:

David Livingstone, the great missionary to Africa made an attempt to compare the efforts he put into the preaching of the gospel in Africa with the sacrifice Jesus made to redeem mankind from eternal damnation and concluded that there was no ground for comparison. In his words, “People thought of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Can that be called a sacrifice which simply paid back a small part of the great debt owned to our God, which we can never fully repay? Hence, one of the ways of paying back the debt owned to our God is rendering acceptable service to Him”.

The text today unveils the plan through which Aaron could enter the holiest of all and atone for his sin and that of the nation, which occurred only once a year. It was to be different from the way he executed his works around the tabernacle and in the holy place. He must meticulously follow the intriguing details of sacrifice according to divine directive. He dared not go contrary to God’s directive lest he died.

Compared to this Old Testament mode of worship and sacrifice to what believers enjoy today, Christ is our Passover Lamb and High Priest who has made a once-and-for-all sacrifice for our sins. Unlike the Old Testament where only the high priest entered the holiest of all once in a year, the redeemed today has direct access to God.

This is in the consciousness that our High Priest is always with God, giving succour to the needy and saving to the uttermost, the believer on whose behalf He mediates and intercedes. Despite these lofty privileges, many still take God’s grace for granted. Make up your mind to give your best in service and worship to the Lord.

Thought For The Day: “Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling”.

Seeds of Destiny 1 May 2019 Devotional: Prayer and the Word – Tools in the Hands of the Dedicated

Topic: Prayer and the Word – Tools in the Hands of the Dedicated [Seeds of Destiny 1 May 2019 Devotional]

A major proof of dedication is a lifestyle of addiction to prayer and the study of the Word. The ministry of prayer and the Word to a child of God is likened to the two legs of a person. Just as a person must stand on his two legs in the physical to maintain a balanced posture, it takes a stand on prayer on one leg and the Word on the other leg to have a balanced destiny.

SCRIPTURE: But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Acts 6:4

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Dedication to God is a pathway to distinction in life; devotion is the pathway to destiny.

Dedication according to Cambridge English Dictionary is the willingness to give a lot of time and energy to something because it is important. Dedication to God means entrusting all of one’s life, time, energy and resources to God.

It has been confirmed that Dedication to God is a pathway to distinction in life; devotion is the pathway to destiny.

Now, let me give you few examples of dedicated people in the scripture and their commitment to prayer and the Word:

i) The Apostles: The apostles proved their dedication to God by giving themselves to prayer and the Word (Acts 6:4). No wonder they turned their world upside down for God (Acts 17:6) and did incredible exploits for the Kingdom of God, hence, we have ‘The Acts of the Apostles’ as a Book of the Bible. The apostles employed the tools of prayer and the Word in their journey of dedication to God.

ii. Abraham: Abraham was also a man of prayer and the Word. He got up early in the morning to commune with God (Genesis 19:27). He was also a man who knew the Word of God and so he had possession of the Ways of God (Genesis 18:17-19). He also employed the tools of prayer and the Word in His walk with God.

iii. Jesus Our Master: Our Master Jesus was a Man of prayer and the Word. In Luke 6:12, He went up to a mountain to pray to God all night, and in Luke 4:16, He read the Word, even though He was the Word of God personified.

Beloved, if Jesus, who had no need for anything could pray all night and also read the Word, then we are expected to do much more. I commend you to a lifestyle of consistent prayer and the study of the Word of God.

REMEMBER THIS: Dedication to God is a pathway to distinction in life; devotion is the pathway to destiny.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Make the reading and studying of the Bible a habitual practice in your life.
  2. You can use the ‘Daily Reading Plan’ in the Seeds of Destiny devotional as a guide.

PRAYER: O Lord, I ask that You open my eyes to see insights and revelations from Your Word as I study. Give me the grace to pray without ceasing, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

QUOTE: True spiritual growth is defined by increasing capacity to love what God loves and hate what God hates. Culled from WHO ARE YOU? by Dr Paul Enenche

DAILY READING: Judges 13:1 to 14:28, John 1:29 to 51, Psalm 102:1 to 28, Proverbs 14:15 to 16

AMAZING FACT: Billy Graham was often referred to as the ‘Pentecostal Pope’ because he attracted large crowds no matter where he preached. In a career that spanned over six decades from 1947 until his retirement in 2005, the preacher held more than 400 crusades and preached to more than 251 million people in more than 185 countries and territories across six continents.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION/WORD: I prophesy a fresh hunger for prayer and the word on your life this season, in Jesus’ Name.

Memorise: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13

Read: John 15:15

  1. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Bible In One Year: 1 Kings 1-2, Luke 22:54-71

MESSAGE:

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only true friend that you can have. He is the most reliable, honest and trustworthy friend you will ever find, He will never fail or betray you. He is ever present with you and truly sees, feels, emphasizes and shares your moments of joy and pain with you. He is the only One you can trust.

In Jeremiah 17:5, God warns us against putting our hopes in fellow human beings, in fact, that passage says the one who trusts in men operates under a divine curse. Why? It is because to put your trust in men, you have begun to idolize the men you trust. In other words, you are telling God that men are more relevant and powerful than Him.

God wants you to be very close friends with Him. He wants you to trust Him with your deepest thoughts and needs, He wants you to talk to Him and commit your ways to Him often. He is always available for you.

Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, thank you for being my friend. From today, please help me to trust you with everything that concerns me in Jesus’ name.

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful?
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.

TOPIC: He Who Rebuilds The Wall Of Your Jericho (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 1 May 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 10-11; Luke 21:20-38

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Joshua 6:12-21, 26

MEMORY VERSE: “And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.” – Isaiah 57:14

The MESSAGE:

The Fire Scripture for today summarises a story that every child of God needs to key into. It relates how heavenly bulldozers destroyed the wall and city of Jericho, which had constituted itself into an impossibility to the children of Israel on their way to the Promised Land and how Joshua put a curse on anyone who attempted to rebuild this blockage. True to the word of God which never fails, hundreds of years later, the man, Hiel, who tried to rebuild Jericho started by burying his first son as he laid the foundation. The fearful thing about the word of God is that as Hiel proceeded in building, one by one his children died. Then as he erected the gates to complete the rebuild, his last born died.

I pray for you that heavenly bulldozers will flatten any wicked entity that attempts to block you from accessing God’s promises and blessings for your life, in the name of Jesus. And any entity that attempts to prolong or rebuild any affliction or bondage in your life shall pay dearly with all that is precious to it, in Jesus’ name. Isaiah 57:14 assures us that the Ancient of Days has decreed that all obstacles on the way of His children must be destroyed beyond repairs.

Our world is full of physical and spiritual blockages to good things. There are wicked people, who sell their fellow men into perpetual spiritual slavery, thereby blocking them from fulfilling their divine destiny in every area of life. Or what do you call a father who covenants with the devil for money, position and power; and pledges generations of his children to pay? There are also ancestral, environmental, racial, even national curses which keep people away from their portion in life.

Character traits, mindsets, attitudes, and unconfessed sin can also constitute blockages in the life of a man. Or do you think manifesting any fruit of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-23) can get you to destiny fulfilment in Christ? Do not deceive yourself, God is angry with the sorcerer, the drunkard, the idolater, the sexually immoral, the unrepentant liar every day.

Beloved, as you free yourself from foundational, environmental and national limitations, endeavour to free yourself from the grip of personal faults which may stand in the way of your greatness in life.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
EVERY ENEMY MUST BOW AT THE NAME OF JESUS. CALL UPON HIM IN YOUR SITUATION.

PROPHETIC WORD:
I soak you and all yours into the blood of Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. My Father and my God, I worship and adore You for the grace You have given me to be among the called, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Almighty God, I cling to the cross of Calvary and soak myself in the blood of the Lamb to keep me pure and holy before You, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Heavenly bulldozers, grind to powder any ancestral custodian of blessings in my family, blocking me from accessing my lot in life, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. Any spiritual or physical entity empowering or prolonging bandages and afflictions in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Builder from the pit of hell rebuilding what God has destroyed in my life, receive the thunder and fire of God, in the name of Jesus.
