But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. — James 1:22 (AMP)

As a Christian, for a long time I didn’t understand that believers could know what God wanted them to do and then deliberately say no. I’m not talking about those who turn their backs on Jesus and want nothing to do with His salvation. I’m talking about those who disobey in the seemingly little things and don’t seem to be troubled by doing so.

In verses 23 and 24, James went on to say that if we only listen to the Word, but don’t obey it, it’s like looking at our reflection in a mirror and then going away and forgetting what we saw. But a doer of the Word, he says, is like one who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience) (v. 25 AMPC).

Whenever Christians are faced with God’s Word, and it calls them to action but they refuse to obey, their own human reasoning is often the cause. They have deceived themselves into believing something other than the truth. It’s as if they think they are smarter than God.

I’ve met people who seem to think that God always wants them to feel good, and if something happens to make them feel bad, they don’t believe it is God’s will for them. Or they dismiss what they read in the Bible by saying, “That doesn’t make sense.” One woman, referring to Paul’s instruction to “be unceasing in prayer” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), said that verse kept coming to her every time she prayed. “What do you think that means?” I asked her.

“Oh, I think it means that day in and day out, we are to pray when we feel a need or when we want something.”

Her words shocked me. “What about fellowship with the Lord?” I asked. “Isn’t that a good reason? Or maybe God just wants you to spend time reading His Word and praying about what you read.”

“I have too many things to do,” she said. “That’s fine for people who like to sit and read and pray for hours every day, but that’s not the way for me.”

In our brief conversation, I learned that her decisions about obeying God’s Word depended on whether or not it was convenient for her lifestyle. When she read things in the Bible that didn’t fit with the way she lived, she explained it to herself in such a way that she convinced herself God didn’t expect her to do that.

By contrast, I remember a very dignified woman who had been a member of a traditional church most of her life. She often spoke of the noise and confusion in charismatic churches (although she had not been to one). Then she visited one of the services where I spoke and was transformed.

“I couldn’t believe that God would ask me to do something like clap my hands or sing loudly or even shout. But when I saw the joy on the faces of those in the congregation and heard you quote the Bible verse that commands us to clap our hands and shout, what else could I do? That was God speaking to me.”

She had exactly the right attitude. She didn’t try to reason it out or wonder why God commanded her to take that kind of action. She believed His Word and simply obeyed.

When the Bible speaks about obeying the Lord, it is not a suggestion. His Word doesn’t ask, “Would you like to obey?” God commands us to take action by being a doer of His Word, and when we are obedient, He promises that we will be blessed.

Prayer Starter: Dear Father, I thank You for the instructions found in Your Word. I may not always like what I read, and sometimes it may be difficult to follow You without hesitating, but I know it is for my good. Please help me to be always obedient and to bring glory and honor to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: A Blissful Home is God’s Plan for You (Part 3)

Dear Reader,

Another major requirement for enjoying a blissful family is love. Someone once said, ‘Where there is love, there is life’. Love is not an optional thing; it is mandatory for life. The Bible says, ‘…He that loveth not his brother abideth in death’ (1 John 3:14). This scripture is telling us that the absence of love is a sure way for it to pass from life to death. The absence of love in a family is a sure way for a family to merely exist instead of enjoying unhindered bliss.

Until love is communicated among your family members, you may never taste fulfilment in the family. As a husband, your love for your wife must be expressed, because love is not love until it is expressed. The Bible says, ‘God so loved, He gave…’ (John 3:16). God gave His love expression and as children of God, you need to give your love expression.

Also Read: God’s Promise Of Fruitfulness (Part 2) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Let the expression of love for your family emanate from your heart. When your heart is full of loving thoughts, it readily finds expression in the words you speak. If you think negatively about any member of your family, it will not take long for you to begin to speak negatively about that person. A man (or woman) who abuses his spouse is only saying what he (or she) has been thinking about that person over a period of time. So, change your thinking. Look for the good points in your spouse and stop focusing on the negative.

I want you to know that love is contagious. When a man loves his wife, not only will he win her submission, every other member of the family and even outsiders will respect you. Love has that effect. It goes beyond just one or two people. Choose to allow your family to be a blissful family by giving love expression.

Verbal Communication

‘I love you’: a three-word sentence, but that which has a lot of power in it. Most people find it easy to say, ‘I love you’ or ‘I like you’ to someone outside their homes. If you are that nice to someone outside your home, why not extend it to your family members. As a mother, every time I said, ‘I love you’ to my youngest daughter, she would give me a broad smile and run with joy, telling everyone in the house, ‘Mummy said she loves me’. Not only does it build security in her emotionally, but it also enables her to take correction from me because she knows I correct her out of love.

Learn to say nice words to your family members. Husbands, it’s not wrong to say I love you to your wife often. In the Bible, it is recorded that our Lord Jesus Christ said, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others?’ (John 21:15). And again, He said, “… Do you really love me?” (John 21:16).

If Jesus was curious to hear His disciples declare their love, how much more will our family members.

Non-Verbal Communication

You can communicate your love non-verbally. Sometimes, a touch speaks just as much as words. A touch can speak volumes of love. Why should family members find it difficult to give a friendly hug to one another, or hold one another’s hands? I’ll never forget an experience I had some years back. I was down physically and my husband went out one of those days and came back with a little beautifully wrapped gift, which he personally presented to me, expressing his love to me. Could you believe that that little act of love from him brought me health and I never needed any more medication? Many years have passed but I still keep that gift, well preserved till today.

There is no woman who hates to be loved. When you look at a dead man, all his physical senses are on hold. He can’t communicate whether through words, touch, sight, smell or taste. To keep your family alive and enjoy a blissful family, communication is important. Love needs to be present and expressed to keep the family alive. Let love find full expression in your family and you will begin to enjoy a blissful family. If others are down, you are the one to encourage them. God’s Word tells us, “The unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife (1 Corinthians 7:14).

As a family that is born again in Christ Jesus, begin to communicate love to the others and God’s grace will cause others to follow suit. Be the initiator. Abraham’s intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah saved his nephew Lot and his entire household (Genesis 18&19). God wants to save your entire household, and He will use you to do it. Receive God’s grace right now to fulfil this responsibility to your family.

Do you desire to be a vessel through whom God can touch the lives of other family members? Then you need to be one with Him. You can be one with God through new birth in Christ Jesus. You need to be born again. Why not say this prayer of faith with me: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the blissful God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Topic: Engaging the Breakthrough Power of Faith!

Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching! I hope you were blessed by the teaching of last week. This week, we shall focus on: Engaging the Breakthrough Power of Faith!

From Scriptures, we discover that it is only our faith that can make us become what God says. The Bible records: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised (Hebrews 11:11; see also Isaiah 14:27, 55:11). God has sworn; yet, it will take our own faith to become what He has declared. Two things brought about the fulfilment of the prophetic word in Sarah’s life: her faith got the job done, and she also believed in the set time (Genesis 21:1-2). Thus, every prophecy is ordained to be fulfilled at the set time because we serve a God of appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3). God is committed to His timing and when we are in line with the appointed time, our next levels will come. As it is written: And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment (1 Chronicles 12:32). Therefore, if we don’t have an understanding of the time, we stand to be messed up. There are things we must do to experience continuous breakthroughs in our lives. Thus, every breakthrough story in the Kingdom is rooted in specific Word encounters (Isaiah 9:8; John 2:3/5/9; Luke 5:4-7). Many people heard the Word but the Word did not produce in their lives because the Word we don’t put to work will never work. As it is written: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works (James 2:18).

What, Then, is the Breakthrough Nature of Faith?

1. Faith is sharing responsibility with God in the light of Scriptures, so as to commit Him to make good His promise: Any faith that seeks to make God absolutely responsible for the outcome of its life is an irresponsible faith. Real faith makes us take responsibility to see God in action. Until our part is played, God is not committed.

Also Read: The Supremacy of Faith! By David Oyedepo

2. Faith is the spiritual virtue that establishes partnership with the invisible God, thereby empowering us to do the impossible: It is written: What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). Every time our faith comes alive, God’s partnership with us on that issue of concern is established. So, it is our faith that establishes our partnership with God in dealing with the issues of our lives. For instance, Abraham’s faith was a partnership faith (Genesis 17:1). Every time we believe God, we remind Him of His partnership with us, thus empowering us to do the impossible (Romans 3:3-4). Also, when the Israelites believed Him by going towards the Red Sea, the sea saw them and fled. Their partnership with God made them more than conquerors.

3. Faith is not just reaching out to God who is in heaven; faith is bringing God down to where we are: This means that we are both on the battlefield. His name is called the Omnipotent God, and with the breath of His nostrils, He will slay our enemies.

4. Faith is putting God’s Word to work, believing: We must maintain a thought pattern that is in line with what we believe (Proverbs 23:7).

5. Faith converts the Word into flesh: It converts the spiritual to physical and the immaterial into material (John 1:14).

6. Faith is not just getting God to do something; it is securing God’s partnership in getting things done: As it is written: …for we are labourers together with God (1 Corinthians 3:9). It is that partnership that turns men into living wonders in the world. Faith brings us into partnership that makes us dare the undareable, speak the unspeakable and deliver the impossible.

In summary, if faith is so powerful, why then do we appear so powerless? It is because our faith is not well-rooted. Every change of level meets people suddenly, and except our faith is set, we will trash it and miss our set time. We need to build our faith or it will fail us when our lifting comes because we need a set faith to take delivery of our next levels. Therefore, we should invest in getting our faith set by tapping into the depth that God has given to those who have it. But, to get your faith set, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so.

Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! For further reading, please get my books: Unlimited Power of Faith, Understanding the Power of Faith, Exploits of Faith and Born to Win! TOPIC: Witnesses to the Resurrection

READ: Luke 24:1-12 New King James Version (NKJV)

  1. Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.
  2. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
  3. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
  4. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.
  5. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
  6. He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,
  7. saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
  8. And they remembered His words.
  9. Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
  10. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles.
  11. And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them.
  12. But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.

THE MESSAGE:

All the four gospels give accounts of the resurrection. Here we are told that the women, who obviously were devoted to their Lord, arrived with spices at the tomb, only to find the stone rolled away and the tomb empty! Why was the stone rolled away? Was it to let Jesus out? No! With His glorious body He no longer needed physical openings in order to find access. He could walk through locked doors (John 20:19). So, obviously the stone was rolled away in order to let the “witnesses” (the women and the apostles) in so they could proclaim the resurrection. In verses 5 and 6, the angels gently rebuked the women for failing to remember Jesus’ predictions about His death and resurrection, which is the reason why, they were “looking for the living among the dead!”

As Mary Magdalene lingered by the tomb weeping, Jesus appeared to her and commissioned her as a witness to the resurrection (John 20:11-18). Amazingly, all the four gospels agree that women were the first to witness to the resurrection of Christ.

The Gospel of Christ must break every barrier: ethnic, gender or race. When we encounter the resurrected Christ, we must in turn become witnesses of the same to an ignorant world.

Prayer: Father, may my life bear witness to the fact that Jesus is alive.

TOPIC: Keys to Explosive Success in Business (I) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 28 April 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 3-5; Luke 20:1-26

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Joshua 1:8-9

MEMORY VERSE: “Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.” – Jeremiah 1:8

The MESSAGE:

As a Christian that is involved in business, you are not only to record success as others do, but an explosive success. An explosive success is your birth right.

The word “explosive” means an outburst, ability to explode and something happening with a great force. So, an explosive success is an uncommon success, divine success, success that turns failure and frustration to fulfilment. I pray that shall be your portion in business, in Jesus’ name. To succeed in business as a Christian, there are keys to be considered.

The first key is putting God first. God is the Creator of heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). He created you in His own image (vs 27) for a purpose, that is, to succeed in life. So, you have to put God first in whatever you do, especially in your business.

Note, when you are saved, your business will be saved to bring forth an explosive success and vice versa. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Remember the slogan ‘God first’.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL, IT IS JUST THIS SIMPLE: KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING, LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You shall die to failure and be alive to explosive success because the God of Elijah is a successful God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Every yoke manufacturing spirit assigned against my business, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.
  2. I reject every satanic embargo placed upon my business, in the name of Jesus.
  3. O God, arise and let every enemy of my explosive success scatter, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. I break every curse and evil covenant placed upon my business, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Every power of my father’s house and my mother’s house, working against my explosive success, die, in the name of Jesus.
  6. Anointing for an explosive success, fall upon me now, in the name of Jesus.
  7. O Lord, make me successful in my business, in the name of Jesus.

And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee. – Exodus 3:11-12

Have you ever had a Holy Spirit-inspired dream, a dream of doing something really great for Jesus? A dream of being so prosperous, for instance, that you can finance a nationwide revival? A dream of leading thousands of people to the Lord?

At one time or another, you probably have, but perhaps you backed away from it. You thought, Oh my, I couldn’t do that. Satan’s kept me defeated for so long I have a poor self-image.

If so, I have some good news for you. If you’ll believe God, even a poor self-image won’t keep you from success. Look in the book of Exodus and you’ll see a man who proved that. His name was Moses.

Moses didn’t have a very good self-image. He’d made a terrible mistake early in his career. It was a mistake that drove him into the wilderness and kept him there for 40 years herding someone else’s sheep.

He’d once dreamed of being a deliverer of God’s people, but no more. As far as he was concerned, he was finished…a failure…a flop!

But God didn’t think so. In fact, when God came to Moses in that wilderness, He didn’t ask for Moses’ credentials. He didn’t mention his shady history. He just told him to go see Pharaoh and tell him to let God’s people go.

Moses, however, was still wrestling with his poor self-image. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” he stammered.

You know what God said in response? He just said, “Certainly, I will be with thee.”

You see, it didn’t matter who Moses was. What mattered was that the living God was with him. The same thing is true for you today. You don’t need a history of successes behind you to answer God’s call. You don’t need a string of spiritual credentials. All you need is the presence of the Lord.

Think about that when the devil tells you you’re a failure, when he says you’ll never be able to do what God has put in your heart to do. Put him in his place. Tell him it doesn’t matter who you are because the living God is with you.

Then dare to follow your dream!

“And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more…” – Revelation 20:2-3 KJV

If you notice in the above passage, he was bound in chains and put inside the bottomless pit, shut up so that he would no more deceive the nations because he goes about with deception. He says things contrary to what God had said and when you buy it, it will manifest. He used that strategy on Eve. After God had just spoken concerning Adam and Eve, the devil came and deceived Eve into eating the same fruit that God said they shouldn’t eat. He said to Eve, ‘has God said’? In other words, this thing that God said, can it really be true? And rather than shut him up, Eve bought it and that resulted in the fall of man.

It has always been the same strategy; no change. ‘Has God said that you are going to have a child? How can you have a child when you know your medical condition?’ He would ask: how can you succeed in life? Look around you, has anyone ever succeeded in your family? He would count them one after the other, reminding you that none of them succeeded. And if you agree with the devil; then you would stop attempting. He might turn around again to ask, ‘why do you think that you are going to be healed of this sickness? Have you ever heard of anyone healed of such sickness; brother A died, sister B died and uncle C died; it is now your turn.’ And then you buy it, and you wonder why it happened?

Beloved, the devil is a liar. Your testimony is not dependent on your condition or on what happened to other people. No! It is dependent on what God spoke concerning your life. Don’t let Satan deceive you. Stick to what God said to you.

Memorise: “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” – 1 John 3:9

Read: 1 John 2:20, 27-29

20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 19-20, Luke 21:20-38

MESSAGE:

In Judges 13:25, we are told that the Spirit of God began to move in Samson in the camp of Dan. When the anointing of God comes upon you, before long, the purpose for which God created you will become evident.

You were created for greatness. You are not ordinary. You were designed to succeed. This is so for every child of God. Unfortunately, many Christians live their lives without realising their purpose on earth. This is because they are yet to receive the anointing. When the anointing comes upon you, you will suddenly realise your purpose on earth and begin to pursue it.

To get the anointing, you need to be friends with the One who anoints. Acts 10:38 says “and God anointed Jesus of Nazareth”. To be close to Him, you need to study His word (The Bible) often and always d His will. However, when you realise you purpose, you must ensure that you don’t also take it for granted like Samson did. It could be harmful for you if you fail to fulfill that purpose God gave you.

Leprosy and other diseases on the skin are all embarrassing and greatly inconveniencing. They are obvious to human sight, irritating to the affected and alienate victims from the rest of the society. Likewise, sin and unrighteousness is a damning blemish that needs to be cleansed very fast before it does greater damage.

The passage gives a step-by-step instruction on how to cleanse leprosy from the “walls of the house”. God was interested in the wellness and wholeness of His people, the cleanliness in the body and the home, even their building. He will not ignore even the symptoms of leprosy on the walls! God gave the clear details of how to cleanse the plague and any other blemish on a man’s garment or house.

God is equally interested in the wholeness of our spirit, soul and body. Our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and as such, every defilement, pollution, stain and blemish is intolerable. As the owners of the defiled houses were expected to expose themselves to the priest for cleansing, likewise, sinners, backsliders and defiled people are expected to expose themselves in confession and restitution to God for forgiveness. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). No effort was to be spared in cleansing the defiled building, from the scraping of the plaster to the total removal of the blocks of the building.

There is assurance of cleansing from every form of defilement today, if the defiled can take the simple steps of acknowledging the defilement, confessing it before God, asking for forgiveness on the basis of the blood of Jesus shed for man and accepting by faith, the pardon offered him through Christ’s vicarious death.

Thought For The Day: No stain of sin is beyond cleansing, if the sinner genuinely repents.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The anointed state is a blessed state.

The anointing of God is a blessing connector. It is a blessed thing to carry the anointing of God. The anointing makes a man live an enviable and a fortunate life, and not a pitiable life. The anointing enhances your value and worth. An anointed person is, therefore, a custodian of the Blessing of God. This means that the anointed state is a blessed state.

The anointing comes with its portion or allocation; there is a portion that comes with the unction. This means that the anointing connects a person with supernatural supplies that are beyond labour and energy. The anointed gets effortlessly what ordinary people get effort-fully.

This implies that:

a. When you function in the anointing, you are positioned to connect with resources far beyond your labour and energy. It does not matter the kind of profession you are into, as long as you function in the anointing, it positions you to connect with resources far beyond your labour or energy.

b. When you function in the anointing, your lot can never be the same with the lots of the ordinary man. You do not need to envy anyone when you function in the anointing.

c. When you function in the anointing, you function effortlessly in the realm of the commanded blessings or supplies (Psalm 133:1-3).

I prophesy to you today, receive your portion of the unction in the Name of Jesus!

REMEMBER THIS: The anointed state is a blessed state.
