Topic: When it’s Necessary to Forgive! (Open Heaven 28 April 2019)

Memorise: “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?”- Matthew 18:21

Read: Mark 11:24-26 (KJV)

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Bible in One Year: Genesis 36-37, Jeremiah 26:12-24

Open Heaven 28 April 2019 Sunday MESSAGE:

Forgiveness is a term used to indicate pardon for a fault or mistake committed by someone. It means to end the feeling of animosity towards a person for an offence committed, and signifies the liberation of that person from guilt and its consequences, including punishment. It usually comes as an act of unmerited favour, compassion or love, with the aim of restoring a broken relationship. Forgiveness is synonymous with pardon, and it is also used in reference to the cancellation of debts. In God’s eyes, to forgive is more about the restoration of a broken relationship that just a change of one’s mind or emotions towards a person who committed an offense. Indeed, forgiveness can be costly and painful. Nevertheless, God demands that we forgive because He Himself first forgave us, and He continues to do so today.

God forgives our sins out of love and because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross of Calvary (Acts 13:38-39, 1 John 1:6-9). Having received His forgiveness through faith in the atoning Blood of Jesus, our sins are no longer held against us as children of God (Romans 3:25). The forgiveness we receive is a part of the justification that comes through grace. In pardoning sin, God effectively removes the guilt of sin, absolves the sinner of the condemnation of the law, and liberates the pardoned from eternal damnation. By this act of grace, the sinner is forever freed from the guilt and penalty of sin. This is God’s special prerogative, offered freely to all men through the gospel of Jesus. We access this free gift by confessing our sins unto God, genuinely repenting of them and becoming born again.

As God has shown us unmerited love, mercy and grace, in wiping all our sins away with the Blood of Jesus, he commands us to do the same to our fellow men. We are to love our neighbours and keep no record of sin against them. As a matter of fact, God expects forgiveness to form part of our lifestyle, keeping in mind that receiving forgiveness from God is dependent on us forgiving our neighbors (Luke 6:37). Ephesians 4:32 says:

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Forgiveness leads to peace, reconciliation, healing, unity, progress, joy, prosperity and answered prayers. Whenever these things are lacking and we find ourselves stricken by our conscience, forgiveness is needed. Let the love of God radiate through you to others, so that you can also become a beneficiary of the Lord’s abundant blessings.

Open Heaven 28 April 2019 Sunday Prayer Point:

Father, please make me a person of peace and help me to forgive easily, in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 28 April 2019 Sunday Hymn 5: Let Others See Jesus In You

1 While passing thro’ this world of sin,
and others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;
Let others see Jesus in you.

2 Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’
Say, does it point them to the skis,
Do others see Jesus in you?

3 Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
and lead the lost to life and Christ.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Topic: He Leads Us Through The Word

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Romans 8:14).

The Holy Spirit leads us through the Word. Any counsel you receive that’s contrary to what the Word says, isn’t from the Holy Spirit. Some people pray about something, then an idea comes to them, and they say, “Well, God is leading me to do such-and-such.” If you were to ask them, “Why do you believe it’s God that’s leading you in that direction?” they’d say, “It’s because I prayed about it.”

The fact that you prayed isn’t enough! What did the Lord say to you after you prayed? Did He tell you expressly to go ahead and do whatever it is you think He’s leading you to do? Is the idea you got consistent with the Word? Is it consistent with His perfect will for you? His Word is His will expressed. Yielding to the Spirit means yielding to the lordship, supremacy and guidance of His Word.

This is why knowing the Word for yourself is absolutely indispensable. It’s important to have accurate knowledge of the Word. The more submissive you are to the lordship of the Word, the easier you’ll recognise the Spirit’s guidance. His desire is to lead you from glory to glory.

Our theme verse says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” To fulfill God’s destiny for your life, you must learn to follow the Spirit in the Word, by the Word, and through the Word. Don’t be in a hurry when seeking His guidance; be patient until you hear His voice—His words— in your spirit. Then you’re ready to go! His Word gives you light, and direction, and holds the solution to every problem.

Irrespective of the troubles, adversities, and challenges, trust the Word. Put your faith in the Word. Become so inundated with the Word until the Word alone is all you think, talk and live out. The Word enjoins us, “…Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

PRAYER
Dear Father, your Word gives me strength and ministers courage to my spirit. My faith is strong and active, and it prevails over circumstances as the Spirit guides me in the path of life. His truth and wisdom are the forces of my life, propelling me from glory to glory as I walk in the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Stolen bible translated by 17th century English Protestants is recovered

The 1615 Geneva Bible was traced to a museum in Leiden, the Netherlands after it vanished from the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Jones said: “This bible is more than a piece of evidence in a case. It is a priceless artefact of religious significance to people of many faiths.”

The text is among hundreds of rare books and other items stolen by the library’s archivist during a series of thefts spanning two decades, prosecutors have claimed.

It is unclear whether 62 year old Gregory Priore will plead guilty or not guilty to numerous counts of theft, conspiracy and other charges.

Mr Priore, and a 55 year old book dealer who denies similar charges, are awaiting trial.

It is believed English Protestant exiles living in Geneva during the reign of staunchly Roman Catholic monarch Queen Mary Tudor translated the bible.

Mr Jones told journalists during an FBI press conference that the bible – valued at $5,500 – is similar to one transported to North America by the Pilgrims in 1620.

Notable Voices and the Week in Review: April 27, 2019

Surviving the Week after Easter — Sam Rainer

The joyous whirlwind has stopped, and the grind of ministry begins again. I’m sure the disciples felt something similar after Jesus’ ascension. They were all standing around watching Jesus go into heaven, and the two angels chided them to get back to work. Our work as church leaders does not culminate on Easter Sunday. As you dig back into it, consider a few ways to make this week more rewarding.

Three Worrisome Reasons Why Church Membership Is Falling — Facts & Trends

For 60 years, church membership remained relatively stable in America. Since 1998, however, the percentage who say they are a member of a church, synagogue or mosque has fallen 20 points. The most recent Gallup report identifies three statistical realities that have contributed to the nationwide membership decline.

The Worship Leader and AnxietyBrent Dyer

I’ve been on a journey. It’s been an interesting trip, over many different paths, changes in direction, and some difficult years. I started leading worship when I was still a teenager, but I certainly wasn’t a worshipper. I was polished, professional, talented, and driven. I was good on stage, planned a well-flowing service, and knew all the right language. But I was empty inside.

Sri Lanka troops find 15 bodies after raid on home of militants linked to Easter Sunday attacks

The gunbattle began on Friday night after police tipped off soldiers to a suspected safe house near the town of Sammanthurai, where authorities said the militants detonated three explosions and opened fire.

At least three others were wounded in the attack, said police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara.

He said that some of the dead likely were militants who blew themselves up in suicide bombings.

Earlier, the military said at least one civilian had been killed in the attack.

Raids and police curfews shut down areas of eastern Sri Lanka as Catholic leaders cancelled Sunday Masses indefinitely.

Officials also urged Muslims to stay home for prayers in an extraordinary call by the clergy to curtail worship as fear of more attacks plagued the island nation.

Major General Aruna Jayasekara, the local military commander, said soldiers and police waited until daylight on Saturday to carry out further raids in Eastern Province given houses being built so close together.

Meanwhile, the military said security forces had recovered explosives, detonators, “suicide kits”, military uniforms and Islamic State group flags in the ongoing raids.

In the same area, police spokesman Mr Gunasekara said officers acting on information from…

UK says most important sign of ‘a good Christian’ is kindness

Thirty-five per cent of respondents in a survey of approximately 2,000 people said they thought the trait was the top indicator.

But there was a considerable difference between the genders – with 42 per cent of women and 27 per cent of men favouring kindness above other qualities.

Love (14 per cent), goodness (eleven per cent) and faithfulness (six per cent) completed the top four characteristics.

The YouGov and Yahoo UK poll found joy, peace, patience, gentleness and self-control were less popular – each garnering five per cent or less of votes.

Viganhajdari/Pixabay

Speaking to Yahoo UK’s ‘Britain is a Nation Of’ podcast, Church of England priest and reality television star Kate Bottley the idea of being a good Christians is a “crazy notion”.

She said: “The basic point for me of Christianity is that I am an absolute failure and all Christians are. We mess it up continually, we get it wrong, we’re hypocritical.

“We fudge it up on a second-by-second basis, we are not perfect people.”

“It’s not an awards ceremony, going to church, it’s a hospital for the broken, that’s what it’s about.

“It’s about going there and going, ‘oh my word, I can’t get this life right and I’m trying really hard.'”

Trump denies paying North Korea for tragic Christian student’s care

It comes after the Washington Post published a report that the US was charged $2 million by Pyongyang for treatment received by Otto Warmbier.

Responding on Twitter, he said: “No money was paid to North Korea for Otto Warmbier, not two million dollars, not anything else.”

The 22 year old died in 2017 after being flown to the US in a coma. He had suffered brain damage.

The University of Virginia student had been detained for 17 months by the secretive state after being accused of trying to steal a sign from a hotel where he was staying in the capital city.

He was sentenced to 15 years hard labour.

It has now been claimed North Korea insisted the Ohio-born believer’s medical bill be settled prior to his release.

According to the Post, which cited two sources, a US official signed off on the payment on the orders of President Trump.

CBS citied a former Department of State worker who said the US never paid to fee – nor did it intend to – but the bill was accepted.

Christian grandfather’s bail relief after ‘gluing himself to train’

Philip Kingston was applauded by climate change activists and supporters outside Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday after being released on conditional bail.

White-haired Mr Kingston said outside court: “It’s a bit of a shock actually to be released, I’m delighted.

“I was assuming like the three arrested last week we would be remanded in prison – they have had the worst of it up to now.

“My only reservation is we’re not in solidarity with them.”

The octogenarian and five other climate activists are accused of gluing themselves to a DLR train in the Canary Wharf financial district in London on Thursday.

Prosecutor Alex Britton told the court “numerous trains were affected and delayed” and estimated the cost of the disruption to the rail network at about £80,000.

Three other people accused of the same charge were last week denied bail and kept in custody – however one, Cathy Eastburn, was released on bail after a hearing at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed.

All six defendants, who are part of the Christian Climate Action group, indicated not guilty pleas on Friday and…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 27 April 2019 — Freely

Topic: Freely [Joyce Meyer Devotional 27 April 2019]

Read Previous MESSAGES HERE

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. — Romans 5:5

The word freely means “spontaneously; without constraint or persuasion.”

When the Lord, in the person of the Holy Spirit, comes to dwell in our heart, He brings love with Him, because God is love (see 1 John 4:8).

It’s important to ask what we are doing with the love of God that has been freely given to us. Are we rejecting it because we don’t think we are valuable enough to be loved? Do we believe God is like other people who have rejected and hurt us? Or are we receiving His love by faith, believing that He is greater than our failures and weaknesses?

With God’s help, we can love ourselves—not in a selfish way, but in a balanced, godly way; a way that simply affirms God’s creation as essentially good and right. God’s plan is this: for us to receive His love freely, love ourselves in a godly way, generously love Him in return, and finally love all the people who come into our lives.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for Your abundant love. Help me to freely receive Your love, love myself, then pour out Your love to those around me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

From Joyce Meyer’s Ministries.

“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:15 KJV

I heard a story of someone who went to visit a friend. Apparently, his friend had a very big bulldog that is very fierce looking, but its owner had already pulled out the teeth and just plays with the dog because he loves doing so. The dog had the physique and all the stuff but could not bite. So as the man came to his friend’s house, the dog rushed out and the guest out of fear said, ‘please keep your dog’. The host replied that it did not have teeth. But the guest said ‘I don’t know what you are talking about. Just keep your dog. That is how this man was running from a dog that had no teeth to bite.

Do you know that a lot of us believers are running from a devil that cannot bite? He is already defeated. But we are running from him. My question to such believers is, why do you think Jesus came? Of course, He came to destroy the works of the devil. He came to put a permanent stop to satanic activities so that anytime he comes against your life, you can tell him ‘shut up.’ That is why Jesus came. But the problem is that many of us are not ready to utilize and enforce the devil’s defeat. Rather than enforce his defeat, we are afraid of him. Even when it is obvious that he is a toothless bulldog.

You must rise up and enforce the devil’s defeat because no one else can do it on your behalf. When you enforce his defeat, the devil will leave you alone. Whatever he came with, whether it is sickness, disease, frustration, disappointment and manipulation of your destiny; once you stand to enforce your right, he has no choice but to leave you. I pray that the Lord will give you wisdom and understanding to fully grasp what Jesus did for you on the cross.
