Orange walk re-routed away from church where priest was spat on

The original route for the Apprentice Boys of Derry (Bridgeton) Easter Sunday parade would have passed St Alphonsus Church, Glasgow, where Father Thomas White was targeted as an Orange walk went by on July 7 last year.

Father White was spat on as he spoke to parishioners outside the place of worship in London Road.

Bradley Wallace was jailed for ten months in February after admitting assaulting the priest – a charge aggravated by religious prejudice.

Glasgow City Council re-routed the procession, which will go from Tullis Street to Cathedral Square and back, away from the church, following a meeting on Tuesday.

A council spokesman said: “Members chose to re-route the procession after hearing serious concerns, raised by Police Scotland, about the potential for disorder due to protests and counter-protests from people opposing or supporting the event.”

The Archdiocese of Glasgow tweeted: “We welcome the decision of @GlasgowCC to re-route the march planned for Easter Sunday morning past St Alphonsus and St Mary’s.

“The right of ordinary people to go to Mass on Easter morning, free from intimidation and fear is one that must be respected and defended.”

Bernie Sanders Endorses Abortion ‘Up Until the Moment of Birth’

Bernie Sanders Endorses Abortion ‘Up Until the Moment of Birth’

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Monday dismissed the debate over late-term abortion up to the moment of birth, calling it a “political issue” but ultimately saying he thinks it should remain legal.

Sanders made the comments during a Fox News town hall in Bethlehem, Pa., with host Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

MacCallum asked Sanders, “With regard to abortion, do you believe that a woman should be able to terminate a pregnancy up until the moment of birth?”

“Look,” Sanders responded. “I think that that happens very, very rarely, and I think that this is being made into a political issue. … But at the end of the day, I believe that the decision over abortion belongs to a woman and her physician – not the federal government, not the state government, and not the local government.”

In January, New York became the latest state to legalize abortion up to the moment of birth. Virginia considered a similar bill that was backed by Virginia’s governor. Referencing those controversies, during his State of the Union address, President Trump called on Congress “to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.”

Pro-life leaders criticized Sanders’ comments. Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, called them “total barbarism.” Marjorie…

Christian sacked by school after sharing concerns about sex-ed classes on Facebook

Kristie Higgs, 43, was accused by bosses at Farmor’s School of making homophobic comments on her personal Facebook page, after she questioned sex education lessons at her own child’s primary school.

She said she had legitimate concerns over new Government guidance on sex and relationship lessons, however she was told her claim that children at the school were being indoctrinated, amounted to homophobia.

The posts by the Christian mother-of two were only visible to her friends.

Roger Kiska from the Christian Legal Centre, which is supporting her, told Premier her dismissal, was grossly unfair.

“Losing your job for gross misconduct – which is really the worst black eye you can have, as far as employment – that suggests that you’ve committed fraud or done something incredibly egregious – it makes you almost unemployable.

“So this is obviously taking a tremendous toll on her.”

The first post shared began with her writing in capital letters “please read this they are brainwashing our children!”

Facebook/ Kristie Higgs

She then went on to urge people to “please sign this petition, they have already started to brainwash our innocent wonderfully created children and it’s happening in our local primary school now”.

The rest of the post, written by another mother, highlighted that a government consultation on whether to make relationships and sex…

Telling the Passover Story in the Shadow of the Pittsburgh Massacre

Telling the Passover Story in the Shadow of the Pittsburgh Massacre

(RNS) — After losing her mother-in-law in last October’s Pittsburgh massacre, Marnie Fienberg quit her job.

A federal contractor in communications strategy who lives in northern Virginia, Fienberg couldn’t go back to work after the shiva, or seven days of Jewish mourning, were up.

Later she realized she couldn’t cook a Passover seder either.

For a dozen years before the shooting, Fienberg and her mother-in-law, Joyce, had prepared the meal at the heart of the holiday together. Joyce Fienberg was used to cooking the seder meal — a ritual reenactment of the story of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt — for as many as 25 guests. She always made matzoh ball soup, sometimes three different kinds — her regular recipe, a heartier whole-wheat version, and a gluten-free version.

That was typical Joyce. She doted on her guests and their dietary choices, wanting each and every person at her table to feel cared for and loved.

This year Marnie Fienberg will do Passover differently. She has envisioned an ambitious project called “2 for Seder” that has caught on as a way to overcome anti-Semitism by better acquainting non-Jews with the Passover story of the biblical flight from slavery to freedom.

Using her communications expertise, she partnered with trusted Jewish groups that liked the idea, from the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to the…

Autopsy of a Deceased Church highlighted 12 reasons churches die. This week, we are looking back at what we’ve learned in the five years since it was published and highlighting a new related video resource.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Corporate worship should be a priority and not just one activity option among many for church members on the weekend.
  • A self-centered attitude among church members is a main factor in church deaths.
  • Stay true to the Word no matter the cost.
  • An outward focus transforms the attitudes and culture of a church.

The seven attitudes we discuss are:

  1. The optional church attitude
  2. The self-centered attitude
  3. The diluted doctrine attitude
  4. The routine-as-idol attitude
  5. The consumer critique attitude
  6. The consumer embracing attitude
  7. The death-rather-than-give attitude

The fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral cannot destroy the church

The fire that devastated the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was an accident, according to the president of the Paris region. Donors have already pledged millions of dollars to rebuild the medieval landmark, one of the most iconic in the world.

The Cathedral was begun in 1163 with the laying of the cornerstone and largely completed by 1345. The cathedral towers are both 226 feet tall. They were the tallest structures in Paris until the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889.

Around four hundred firefighters battled the blaze for nine hours before extinguishing it. The cathedral’s iconic spire fell, but the towers were saved.

People in Paris lined the streets as the cathedral burned, praying and holding vigils for the monument.

The “emotion of an entire nation”

The Notre Dame Cathedral is a significant metaphor for religion in our times.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the devastating fire as the “emotion of an entire nation.” Thirteen million people visit the cathedral each year, making it one of the world’s most beloved structures.

And yet, practicing Catholics make up only 1.8 percent of the French population. According to a recent study, “the practice of the immense majority of French Catholics is limited to life events such as baptism, marriage, death, etc. and to the major feasts of the Church.”

The French are by no means alone in their view of the church’s relevance today.

“Where is the church?”

The oldest church building in the world is the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Begun in AD 327 by Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine, it marks the location of Jesus’ birth. The second-oldest church building is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, also begun by Helena and intended to mark the location of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

I have visited both many times over the years. Each…

South Carolina church spray painted with ‘submit to God thru Islam’ on Palm Sunday

The words “Submit to God thru Islam” and “Muhammed is his prophet” were displayed in black spray-paint on the outside of Midway Presbyterian Church, according to local police.

The Anderson Police Department has offered a reward for information that leads to any arrest linked to the vandalism of the church.

Members of the church, which dates its origins back to the 1800s, covered the windows ahead of the thunderstorms on Sunday night.

The Pursuit of Love by Pastor Sam Adeyemi

The Pursuit of Love by Pastor Sam Adeyemi

Click HERE for Previous MESSAGES by Pastor Sam Adeyemi

Matthew 5: 43–48 (KJV)

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Love is a subject that almost every one can teach theoretically but our emphasis this month will be on the doing of it. First component of love as shown to us in john 3:16, God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son; the first prove of love is giving.

To love is to recognize value in someone. When you love God, you recognize God’s value and want to demonstrate it by giving to Him in celebration of His worth or value. There is absolutely nothing on this planet that is anywhere near God’s value: so what do you do? You give him your life.

When you recognize and value people, then you recognize the gap between their reality and their potential. You want to bridge that gap by giving. God recognized value in us; He demonstrated this value by giving the life of His only son because He wanted to bridge the gap between where we were as sinners and our potential as the righteousness of God.

The second prove of love which is a derivative of the first is forgiving. To forgive means to cancel a debt. In this instance, they are emotional debts. To forgive is to refuse to hold feelings of resentment or animosity against someone. When we love, we give and forgive.

The question today is who should we love? Matthew 22: 37–40 say love the Lord your God with all your heart, might and your soul, which is the first commandment. The second one is like it; love your neighbor as yourself. We are to love God and secondly we are to love other people. Who qualifies to be your neighbor? That would be anyone that lives in your vicinity, family members, and your colleagues in the office, someone that is not far from you.

Jesus breaks is down in Matthew 5 saying love the ones that hate you. The ones that persecute and curse you. Love your enemies. You can’t figure out what to do to your enemies better than God. Our attention here is being drawn to the fact that in our relationships with people, their actions should not change our nature. Our actions should not be reactions to what they do but it should be something that emanates from our own nature.

God makes the sun to shine during the good and the bad and rain to fall because our actions can never change Him. God is love; the worst hatred from anyone will never change the love nature of God. If God is love and we have the nature of God then we are love.

If the only measure of our capacity for love was the good things that we have been doing to other believers, to people that are nice to us and you know there’s a blessing for that because it’s a commandment from the bible. There is a blessing for giving.

we pray for those who weep over Notre Dame fire

Most Rev Justin Welby tweeted his support for those mourning the 13th century landmark after flames destroyed its roof and brought down the iconic spire.

He said: “Tonight we pray for the firefighters tackling the tragic Notre Dame fire – and for everyone in France and beyond who watches and weeps for this beautiful, sacred place where millions have met with Jesus Christ.

“Nous sommes avec vous [we are with you].”

Hundreds of fire fighters were called to the scene after a blaze broke out at around 6pm UK time. It was not until 3am on Tuesday that the incident was declared under control.

Fr Aiden Troy from the English-speaking Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph’s in central Paris told Premier: “There’s a sense that something [of the building] has been saved.

“I was looking at the headlines of many of the French newspapers this morning, and it’s like the heart has been torn out of the city.

[There is] a great sadness and, almost…a great numbness.”

The fire, which is not being treated as arson or terror-related, was described as “heart-breaking” in a statement released by the…

Huge fire ravages Notre Dame Cathedral

Hundreds of firefighters tackled the historic blaze through the night, battling to stop it wreaking complete destruction of the treasured facade after flames torched the roof, sending its spire crashing to the ground before crowds of horrified Parisians.

Meanwhile, teams raced to recover what treasures they could from the 850-year-old Gothic masterpiece, which housed priceless artefacts and relics of huge religious and international significance.

The blaze, which broke out as the last crowds of tourists ended visits at around 6pm BST (7pm local time), was finally declared to be “completely under control” nearly nine hours later.

However, it is expected to take several days to completely extinguish all remaining pockets of fire, dampen down hotspots and secure the world-famous edifice.

Attention is beginning to turn to what may have caused the landmark, part of which was being restored, to fall victim to such a disaster.

The Paris prosecutors’ office said police will carry out an investigation into “involuntary destruction caused by fire”, indicating authorities are treating the blaze as a tragic accident for now.

Arson, including possible terror-related motives, was earlier ruled out.

Visiting the scene on Monday night, French president Emmanuel Macron…
