40 children survive after twister rips through church

The church’s preschool director, Michelle Rushing told local news outlet WPSD: “God was definitely with us.

“The secretary and I walked through the doors just as we heard our glass breaking and felt the suction sucking.”

Staff members were able to quickly get children into a safe area in the church that’s used in emergencies.

Ryan Willcutt, a McCracken County sheriff’s deputy had to rush back to his car to take cover while he was on his way to help people at the church.

“I saw the trees coming up out of the ground and flying through the air and power lines coming up and laying down over the road,” he said.

“I just kind of put my head down covered my head and prayed for the best.”

According to Keith Todd, a spokesman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the violent storm began in Lovelaceville, Kentucky and then travelled through the West Paducah area.

Sunday school was due to be cancelled at the church last weekend but the main service still held.

Open Heaven 22 March 2019 – How Prepared Are You?

Open Heaven 22 March 2019 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – How Prepared Are You?

Topic: How Prepared Are You? (Open Heaven 22 March 2019)

Memorise: “Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.”- 2 Peter 1:14

Read: 2 Timothy 4:5-8 (KJV)

5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Bible in One Year: 2 Corinthians 11-13, Jeremiah 3:6-23

Open Heaven 22 March 2019 Friday MESSAGE:

As we journey through this would as pilgrims, there is the tendency for us to get too comfortable with our temporal earthly dwelling and forget the permanent home in heaven that God is taking us to. For some children of God, after being blessed on all sides here on earth, they forget to prepare for the heavenly mansions that the Lord has gone to prepare them (John 14:1-3). This is the reason why the Holy Spirit says to us in Deuteronomy 6:10-12:

10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, 11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; 12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”

One of my children in the Lord once shared his own experience in this regard. He said he was thinking about the horrible situation in the world today and how world governments are failing their people. He then began to think of the divine intervention that could make things work so that people can be comfortable all the days of their lives. He imagined how pleasant the world would be if roads were fixed, power supply was uninterrupted, and hospitals were adequately staffed with qualified medical personnel having the medications needed to combat diseases, especially in developed countries like his. He also imagined education be coming free at all levels and so on and so forth. While he fantasized, the Holy Spirit suddenly interrupted his thoughts and asked him that if all he had been fantasizing about happened to be true, how many people would appreciate the heavenly mansions that Jesus Christ had gone to prepare for the elect? I believe many children of God would be satisfied with what they had here on earth and would not bother to get prepared for heaven at all!

The question is, how prepared are you for heaven? In today’s memory verse and Bible text, we see two Christian who were prepared to go home: Peter declared his preparedness when he said he had fought a good fight and had finished his course – the essence of his time on earth. Yes, there is a fight to fight because there is a crown to win. As part of our preparedness, we must ensure that we are not entangled with the affairs of this world (1 John 2:15-17, 2 Timothy 2:4-7). Beloved, I charged you to always be prepared.

Open Heaven 22 March 2019 Friday Action Point:

Are you so overwhelmed by the cares of life that you have forgotten God? Do you have cues around you that remind you of heaven? Examine your level of preparedness for heaven today.

Open Heaven 22 March 2019 Friday Hymn 17: Hold The Fort

1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Chorus:
“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

2. See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

3. See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.

4. Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

Azusa Pacific Christian College Reverses Ban on Same-Sex Student Relationships, Again

Azusa Pacific Christian College Reverses Ban on Same-Sex Student Relationships, Again

A Southern California Christian college has again reversed its decision on a ban on “romanticized” same-sex relationships.

Azusa Pacific University (APU) has decided to lift the ban from its code of student conduct, according to Christianity Today.

In the fall, APU made the same change to the conduct code, but then later reverted to disapproving of same-sex relationships because the board of trustees never approved the ban.

“APU is an open-enrollment institution, which does not require students to be Christian to attend, and the handbook conveys our commitment to treating everyone with Christ-like care and civility,” said APU provost Mark Stanton. “Our values are unchanged, and the APU community remains unequivocally biblical in our Christian evangelical identity.”

The university endorses a traditional view of marriage, but does not require students to be Christian. Students do not have to sign a statement of faith to attend the college.

The student code of conduct is made up of “uniform standards of behavior for all students, applied equally and in a nondiscriminatory fashion,” Stanton said.

In response to the reversal of the ban, Brave Commons, an LGBT student group, issued a statement Friday saying the decision “offers equal treatment of LGBTQ+ students in relationships as their heterosexual peers.”

“We seek to…

I expect police to take this seriously

Sadiq Khan was asked about the treatment of Pastor Olu during Mayor’s Question Time at the London Assembly on Thursday.

He said: “I expect the police to take this matter seriously and I can write to members once an update on this investigation has been received.”

The mayor was questioned on the matter by London Assembly member and UKIP politician, David Kurten.

Mr Kurten, a Christian, said he was “troubled” to learn of the arrest of the preacher, whose full name is Oluwole Ilesanmi.

In a written submission, he said: “I am disappointed that any members of the Metropolitan Police would think it appropriate to behave in this manner.

“What is your view of the actions taken by the police on this particular occasion?”

Officers said the brief detention of Mr Ilesanmi outside Southgate Underground station on Saturday 23rd February was made to “prevent a breach of the peace”.

The 64 year old has maintained that he did nothing wrong.

Parents Not Given Choice to Opt Their Kindergarteners Out of Transgender ‘Born This Way’ Event

Parents Not Given Choice to Opt Their Kindergarteners Out of Transgender ‘Born This Way’ Event

New reports indicate that parents were not given an opportunity to exclude their child from a National Education Association sponsored “Born This Way” event in March.

The event sparked controversy with kindergarten parents earlier this month. The Ashlawn Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia, claimed, that before the event, they sent a letter to parents, allowing them to back their child out of the event if they would like. Fox5 reported that according to the school, no parents took that option. According to the Federalist, however, this opportunity was never extended.

“A copy of the February 22 letter provided to the Family Foundation of Virginia under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act shows absolutely no offer for parents to pull their kids out of the activity,” the Federalist reported.

Controversy has also swirled around the language of the letter, which was written in English. According to the Arlington Public School’s website, 24% of elementary school students are English Learners who take English as a Second Language and could indicate parents of these children do not speak English. The Federalist reported, “Linda Erdos, assistant superintendent for Arlington County Schools, claimed in an email to the Family Foundation of Virginia that ‘while the classes included a small number of students who speak…

Montreal to remove crucifix from council chamber

Cllr Laurence Lavigne Lalonde explained to the city’s executive committee meeting that the crucifix would be removed before scheduled renovation work at City Hall.

However, Lalonde said it would not be put back in the chamber when City Hall reopens.

“I think we can agree the context has changed today,” Lalonde said, noting that the crucifix was put on display above the main door of the council chamber in 1937 to remind councillors of the oath before God that they took.

Successive governments have rejected requests to remove the Christian symbol.

Last October, the Coalition government argued the crucifix was an important part of Quebec’s heritage.

The debate comes as the government moves to impose strict religious neutrality rules on state employees in positions of authority.

If passed, workers such as teachers, judges and police officers would be forbidden from wearing visible religious symbols.

“The City of Montreal has the power to take down the crucifix,” Immigration, Diversity and Inclusiveness Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette told local reporters on Wednesday in Quebec City.

“The national assembly has always decided to maintain it, and that’s the position of the government, because it’s a patrimonial symbol.”

Trump signed Bible sold on eBay is a fake, experts say

The item was described in the online listing as being a 4.5-inch “mini bible” signed by the president at a rally in 2016, which would have been before his inauguration.

Justin Steffman, the CEO and lead authenticator of AutographCOA.com, examined photos of the Bible and its signature and told NBC News that the autograph was counterfeit.

“I have taken a close look and compared the book to our authentic exemplar database,” Steffman said by email.

“The signature on the Bible definitely does not appear to be an authentic signature from President Trump. The odds of it being real are zero per cent in my opinion.”

His opinion was backed by two authenticators from the firm PSA/DNA, Kevin Keating and Tom Poon, who separately came to the same conclusion.

“Both of them came back almost immediately with thumbs down,” said Terry Melia, spokesman for the company.

Melia added: “The percentage of fake autographs being sold on eBay — ones that do not already include third-party authentication behind them — is easily 50 per cent or more.”

A certificate of authenticity was provided with the Bible that had allegedly been signed by Mr Trump.

The seller has responded to NBC News’ questions about the eBay listing: “Do not contact me again or I will contact my lawyer and get you for harassment.”

Ryan Moore, an eBay spokesman, said by email, “Our policies require that…

Chrissy Metz of This Is Us Says It’s ‘Hard to Deny’ Power of Prayer

Chrissy Metz of This Is Us Says It’s ‘Hard to Deny’ Power of Prayer

Golden Globe-nominated actress Chrissy Metz plays the lead role in a new film, Breakthrough, that spotlights the power of prayer.

Metz, though, already believed in prayer – long before she was asked to play the role.

The faith-centric film opens April 17 and recounts the true story of a teenage boy who was considered dead after he fell through an icy pond but regained a pulse when his mother started praying at the hospital. About 45 minutes had passed since he plunged into the water.

Metz, best known for her role as Kate Pearson in the series This Is Us, said in a press interview that it’s “hard to deny” the power of prayer.

“And once you start [praying], there’s just sort of this – it’s the train that keeps moving,” Metz told Christian Headlines. “And the stronger that you get in your prayer, and the more boldly you pray, you know, the possibilities I believe are endless.”

Metz plays the prayer warrior mother, Joyce, in Breakthrough (PG).

The film, she said, has other Christian themes as well. She said the film shows the audience that miracles are real and everyone has a purpose.

“To be born is an absolute miracle that we sort of take for granted,” Metz said. “…For everything to happen, you know, for the parents to have been born where they’re born, to have met, to actually conceiving to actually carrying the…

Giant Sunfish Washes Up on Australian Beach – Urban Christian News

Pictures of a giant, odd-looking fish have gone viral after it washed up on a beach in South Australia.

Identified as an ocean sunfish by experts, the 1.8m (6ft)-long specimen was first spotted by a group of fishermen driving along the sand.

At first, they mistook it for a large piece of driftwood, said Linette Grzelak who posted pictures of her partner’s find on Facebook.

“I didn’t think it was real until I Googled sunfish,” she told the BBC.

Her partner, Steven Jones has worked as a fisherman for years so “he knew what it was but had never seen one in real life”, she said.

“Hence why they took the photos. He said it was extremely heavy and the skin was rough and leathery like a rhinoceros.”

The fish was found at Coorong National Park, 80km (50 miles) south of the city of Adelaide. It’s believed to have later washed back into the ocean, Ms Grzelak said.
