On index cards tied up with string, dozens of prayers hang inside Bryant Park’s winter village. 

The interactive Give-back gift pop-up shop belonging to Christian humanitarian organization World Vision, added a tree this year where people could hang prayers and hopes on the branches instead of ornaments. 

According to their website, the Give-back gift shop works to provide needs such as food, income, access to fresh water, school supplies, and much more to people living in developing countries. 

For the past two years World Vision has opened a pop-up Give-back Gift shop in New York City to teach people about the difference one person and one gift can make in the lives of many. This year the shop was open form November 25-27 and it featured a large Christmas tree where people could express their prayers and hopes to God.

According to The Christian Post, one card read, “I pray that hatred, intolerance & bigotry will stop. That all creatures of this planet will have enough to eat.”

Another said, “Lord, please bless my family, friends, our city and our world. Help us to live for you and let our light shine.”

A&E’s Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson, who works with World Vision, went out to the pop-up shop which she called “really special.”

In an interview published by the Washington Post on Wednesday, President Trump questioned whether U.S. troops should stay in the Middle East.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Washington Post, Trump questioned the need for U.S. troops in the Middle East, noting that oil prices in the U.S. have drastically decreased.

He said, “Now, are we going to stay in that part of the world? One reason to is Israel.”

He continued, “Oil is becoming less and less of a reason because we’re producing more oil now than we’ve ever produced. So, you know, all of a sudden it gets to a point where you don’t have to stay there.”

This comes following the news that three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. 

According to the New York Times, three U.S. soldiers were killed on Tuesday by a Taliban bombing. Three more soldiers and an American contractor were also wounded in the attack. 

The New York Times reports that a roadside bomb was detonated near Ghazni City where Special Forces units were sent only three months ago to stop the Taliban from overtaking the area.

American combat operations were officially ended in Afghanistan in 2014, but since the Pentagon’s declaration, the Taliban have expanded in the area leading Americans to re-enter the sphere.

JOS, Nigeria, November 28, 2018 (Morning Star News) – Christian leaders meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Nigeria this month delivered a sharp rebuke, saying the military is complicit in attacks on Christians.

With the governor of Plateau state in attendance, the Rev. Dacholom Datiri, president of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), delivered a report to Buhari at the presidential villa on Nov. 6 stating that 646 Christians in Plateau state alone were killed from March through October.

“The narrative has been that these people are killed by unknown gunmen, or suspected herdsmen, or that there have been farmer-herders clashes,” Datiri said in the report, obtained by Morning Star News. “All these are deceptive narratives deliberately framed to conceal the truth and continue to perpetrate the evil.”  

The truth, he said, is that Muslim Fulani militias heavily armed with sophisticated guns, including AK47s, machine guns, and rocket-propelled grenades have attacked and killed Christians.

CBN News shared an update in regards to the health of Joni Eareckson Tada. The advocate for people with disabilities recently received her second cancer diagnosis and requested that believers send prayers on her behalf. 

On Monday, the 69-year-old underwent surgery to have a small cancerous nodule, which had developed at the area of the mastectomy she had in 2010, removed. Following the surgery, an update was posted on the Joni and Friends website blog. 

The message states: 

“We are happy to report that Joni’s doctors are pleased with the outcome of the surgery and she is resting comfortably. Joni is incredibly grateful for your prayers and encouragement; she is lifting up prayers of thanksgiving for all of you who have prayed on her behalf.

A group of feminist theologians have joined together to publish a “Women’s Bible” they hope will counter traditional interpretations of texts.

“Feminist values and reading the Bible are not incompatible,” Lauriane Savoy, one of the translators, told Agence France-Presse. Savoy is a professor at the University of Geneva. 

The new Bible, “Une Bible des Femmes” (“A Women’s Bible”), was published in October.

All total, 20 female theologians – representing various Christian denominations – worked on the translation,” AFP reported. 

Elisabeth Parmentier, another professor at the University of Geneva who worked on the new Bible, claimed that Jesus’ visit with Mary and Martha often is misunderstood.  

“It says that Martha ensures the ‘service,’ which has been interpreted to mean that she served the food, but the Greek word ‘diakonia’ can also have other meanings, for instance, it could mean she was a deacon,” Parmentier said.

Parmentier added, “We are fighting against a literal reading of the texts.”

Savoy said Mary Magdalene has been misunderstood, too. 

“She stood by Jesus, including as he was dying on the cross, when all of the male disciples were afraid. She was the first one to go to his tomb and to discover his resurrection,” Savoy said.
