And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. – Deuteronomy 28:2

“Well, brother, in the end I’m sure you’ll see these financial problems are actually a blessing in disguise.” Have you ever heard anybody say that to someone who’s hurting financially? Chances are, you have. It’s a popular idea. The problem is, it’s a lie used by the devil to keep believers down.

As a result, many believers today are suffering one financial defeat after another. So let’s go to the Word of God today and get the issue of prosperity and poverty straight. Let’s find out, once and for all, which is the blessing, which the curse.

You can find the answer to that question in Deuteronomy 28. What God describes in verses 1 through 14 is the blessing—prosperity. In verses 15 through 31, God describes poverty—and He has called it a curse.

The curse is meant to destroy. Not to teach people a lesson. Not to make them more spiritual. But to destroy them.

Regardless of how intense the lack is, the nature of poverty remains the same. It is, and will always be, a curse.

Satan has gone to great lengths to convince God’s people that poverty is a blessing in disguise. But poverty is something the devil contrived!

Don’t buy into his lies. Get your thinking in line with the Word of God. If you’re a born-again child of God, you no longer have to live under the curse of poverty or any other curse for that matter. You’ve been redeemed!

Satan is at work in our world. The Bible is my authority. He exists and he has control over thousands of young people, whose hearts have never been captured by Jesus Christ. He has hundreds of agents writing pornographic literature and producing sex movies to pollute young minds. He has intellectuals in high positions teaching a hedonistic and permissive philosophy.

Daily I come in contact with mixed-up people who are caught in the anguish of their own unpreparedness, intellectuals who have been seduced by false science, and rich men who are held in the grip of insecurity. They have no commitment to any goal. They lack an anchor for their real selves. And I long to take every one of them by the hand and lead them into the presence of the One who said, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Prayer for the day: So many are without You, Lord! Use me to lead others from a destructive course to the one which will give them the satisfaction that only You can give.

Luke 23:9 “Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.”

Not only does Jesus’ refusal to defend Himself show His humility, but His refraining from venting His wrath against the man who senselessly killed His friend who was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets (Mt. 11:11), also displays His humble nature.

Because of Christ’s humility and obedience to the Father, God gave Him a name that is above every name in heaven, earth and under the earth. There is no exemption for anyone or anything from coming under the Lordship of Jesus. He is Lord of ALL.

Jesus has not only been exalted above every “being” that has a name, but He is also highly exalted above anything else that can be named. If you can put a name on it, Jesus is above it. Sickness, poverty, depression, anger – everything has to bow its knee to the Lordship of Jesus.

Every knee of men, angels, and demons will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Those who have denied His existence will bow in worship. Those who have spent their lives rebelling His authority will finally bow in submission.

Every being from all ages will ultimately bow and worship Jesus. If we bow our knee to His Lordship now, we will enjoy a wonderful life here on earth, and an eternity in His blessings hereafter. Those who deny His rightful claim to the Lordship of their lives will suffer for it in this life as well as in the next. They still will have to bow their knee to His authority, so there is nothing to gain and everything to lose if they refuse to make Jesus Lord of their life.

There is a natural feeling in every human being called nostalgia. It is the feeling you get when you miss someone or something that was once a part of your life. When you become born again, a lot of things about you change. Your friends, choice of drinks, fun spots, daily schedule, speech and many more things change. The difference between being born again and just keeping away from these things is that when you are born again, you become a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old man dies and a new man with new appetites is born. You will begin to long for times of fellowship in church, and when you wake up in the morning, you will not be able to do anything else until you have read your Bible and have had your quiet time with God. The bad things you used to do will begin to irritate you and you will now feel ashamed that you once did them. For this reason, when I see some Christians whose conduct suggests that they still miss the world, I begin to wonder if they ever really became born again.

Sometimes, people angrily say, “He is very lucky that I have given my life to Christ; if it were in those days when I was in the world, I would have slapped him!” They also say, “If we were not in church, I would have finished you!” People who speak this way about their days in the world are actually missing the world, and in their heart, they have already gone back into the world. If remedial steps are not taken, they will soon be completely backslidden. When you talk about those bad old days as if they were good old days, without any form of shame, you are missing the world. You need to pray to God to consecrate you afresh.

Whenever I remember my days in the world, I feel ashamed of myself. I see that old man as a great fool, and I detest the things he valued so highly then. Great fear comes on me when I consider that I would still have been on my way to hell if Jesus had not saved me. If this is not how you feel when you remember your days in the world, then something is wrong somewhere. The devil has begun luring you back into the world and you need to take heed lest you fall. The devil is very wily, and he knows how to make a person backslide without the fellow even realising it. You must wake up from your slumber and push his ideas out of your mind with God’s help. Consume more of God’s word till you are sanctified. Keep away from those things and people who make your old lifestyle look attractive to you. Do not forsake the fellowship of the brethren, and pray without ceasing. You will not go back to the world in Jesus’ Name.

Father, in any way I miss the world without realising it, please make me see it and rescue me from the tricks of the devil in Jesus’ Name.
