Anne Graham Lotz Vows to Spread Father Billy Graham’s Message About Christ in Cancer Battle

(Photo: Anne Graham Lotz Facebook)Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, revealed she has cancer.

Evangelist Anne Graham Lotz has vowed to continue spreading her late father Billy Graham’s message about God through her fight against cancer.

Lotz posted a touching tribute to her father on Wednesday, which would have been his 100th birthday, admitting that she misses him now even more so than when he died in February.

“With a dull ache in my heart, I long to drive up to see him one more time. To tell him about the new journey of faith God has me traveling. To hear him say, ‘I love you, darling,'” she wrote on her website.

“Today, I’m remembering one who was always a farmer at heart. Who loved his dogs and his cat. Who followed the weather patterns almost as closely as he did world events. Who wore old blue jeans, comfortable sweaters, and a baseball cap,” the evangelist continued.

Graham, credited for evangelizing millions around the world, at the end had a “simple faith,” his daughter said.

“He was his message … a simple man who had responded to God’s love by placing his faith in Jesus, receiving the assurance that his sins were forgiven, that he would not perish, but would have everlasting life,” she said.

Trial of Christians in Algeria postponed and another acquitted

According to Middle East Concern, the four are accused of “inciting a Muslim to change his religion,” an offence which is punishable with a prison term of two to five years and a fine of 500,000 to 1 million Algerian Dinars ( approx. £3,300 to £6,600).

The charges in the province of Bouira, in the Kabylie region follow accusations made in July this year by a 40-year-old woman whose husband, the main defendant, had converted to Christianity.

She and members of her family accused her Christian husband, together with a Christian family that had attempted to mitigate in the conflict between the couple, of wanting to convert her to Christianity.

Separately, Middle East Concern also report the acquittal of a 29-year-old Christian man who had been charged with “illegal importation of Christian materials.”

The man was returning from a visit to a Middle Eastern country in the summer of 2016 and had with him some items, such as keyrings and scarfs, with Christian inscriptions.

He was tried and acquitted, but in September 2018, the prosecutor decided to appeal. He appeared before a court of appeals in Algiers on 18th October and was once again acquitted of all charges.

Evangelical Support for GOP Lowest Since 2008 Election, Exit Polls Show

Evangelical Support for GOP Lowest Since 2008 Election, Exit Polls Show

Evangelicals continued their historical trend of support for Republicans on Election Day, although the percentage was down from President Trump’s victory in 2016 and at its lowest level on a national election day since 2008, according to exit polls.

A full 75 percent of white born-again or evangelical Christians supported Republicans Tuesday, down from the 80 percent that backed Trump, the GOP nominee, two years ago. It is the lowest percentage of evangelical support for Republicans on an election day since 2008, when 74 percent supported Republican nominee John McCain.

Seventy-eight percent of white born-again/evangelical voters backed Republicans in 2014,  78 percent in 2012 (when Mitt Romney faced Barack Obama), and 77 percent in 2010.

But this doesn’t mean evangelicals sat home. White born-again/evangelical Christians comprised 26 percent of voters Tuesday — the same percentage as 2016, 2014 and 2012. They made up 25 percent of the electorate in 2010 and 26 percent in 2008.

Additionally, 58 percent of voters who attend religious services (of any kind) weekly backed Republicans, compared to 55 percent who supported Trump in 2016. But that bloc of voters was a smaller percentage of the electorate this year (32 percent) than in 2016 (33 percent). In the presidential election of 2012, voters who attend religious services weekly were 42 percent…

Gunmen abduct four priests in Nigeria

Fr Victor Adigboluja, Fr Anthony Otegbola, Fr Joseph Ediae and Fr Obadjere Emmanuel were captured in the south-eastern Delta State on Tuesday evening.

The Holy See-run Vatican News website said: “Nigerian Catholic Church authorities have asked the faithful in that country to pray for the release of four priests abducted by gunmen…”

The group had been returning from a two-day reunion in Warri (pictured), celebrating their tenth anniversaries as priests when they were ambushed.

The vehicles they were travelling in were sprayed with bullets. Other priests managed to drive away but four members of their party were captured.

The incident comes a fortnight after the release of five nuns from the nearby town of Agbor who were kidnapped on 25th October.

Advising against all but essential travel in inland areas of Delta, the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office currently warns there is a “high threat of criminal kidnap” in the area.

Four British missionaries were abducted in Delta State last October. One of them, 57-year-old Ian Squire from Shepperton, died in captivity.

Gunman Kills 13 in California Nightclub Mass Shooting

Gunman Kills 13 in California Nightclub Mass Shooting

A man dressed in all black walked into a California nightclub on Wednesday, and opened fire killing at least 12 patrons, and one police officer.

According to Fox News, hundreds of people, many of them college students from local universities such as California Lutheran University, Pepperdine University and California State University Channel Islands, were celebrating “country night” at Borderline Bar & Grill on Thousand Oaks, Calif. Wednesday night when a mysterious man walked into the club and opened fire around 11:20 p.m. without saying a word.

Reportedly, deputies responded to the call within minutes. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus, who was the first to arrive on the scene, heard gunfire and immediately entered the bar with a patrolman. Helus was shot several times by the gunman and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Fox News reports that 30 shots were fired, and the gunman used smoke bombs to distract and disorient his victims.

On witness, Teylor Whitter recalled the tragic line of evens saying, “We all just kind of froze for a split second and then everyone booked it and dove to the floor.”

She continued, “After the first round it was quiet for about five seconds, and then some guys who were next to me on the floor got up and started sprinting toward the back door and yelled at everyone, ‘Get up! Run! He’s coming!’”

Churches, bridge and cutlery works among heritage added to at-risk list

One of the oldest purpose-built museums in England, an Elizabethan bridge which collapsed following heavy rain and a purpose-built cutlery works have also been added to the heritage at risk register, Historic England said.

In total 242 sites have been added this year to the register, which has been going for 20 years, but 318 others have been removed as they are no longer considered to be at risk of being lost, the Government heritage agency said.

Some 1,489 historic buildings and scheduled monuments, 911 places of worship, 2,151 archaeological sites, 99 parks and gardens, four battlefields and four protected wreck sites and 502 conservation areas are listed as at risk of neglect, decay or inappropriate change.

Historic England said two-thirds of the buildings and sites on the original 1998 list have been rescued, often due to the dogged determination of local communities, charities and owners.

Among the buildings added to this year’s at risk list are Grade II* St Luke’s Church in Weaste, Salford, Greater Manchester, where Emmeline Pankhurst married in 1879, which is threatened by damage from a leaking roof.

Holy Trinity Church in Coventry counts Mary Ann Evans – the author George Eliot – as one of its famous parishioners, and survived the Blitz thanks to its vicar and others sleeping in the church during a raid in November 1941 and dousing any fires.

It is on the…

Greek clergy to no longer be civil servants in separation deal

Although they will still be paid by a state subsidy fund, Tuesday’s decision marks a significant shift in the status of bishops, and the separation of Church and state in Greece.

This deal was made and announced by Prime Alexis Tsipras and the head of the Church of Greece, Archbishop Ieronymos.

Prime Minister Tsipras said: “I would like, if you allow me, to begin by saying that this meeting is the culmination of a dialogue that has begun a long time ago, both between us, but also between the State and the Church.”

He said that the aim of these decisions was to deal with historic disagreements that hinder current functioning and to make the church self-reliant.

He said: “It solves many decades of outstanding issues that have arisen since the 1920s, but mainly because it is an Agreement for the benefit of both sides” and used language of “mutual respect”.

The main change was that: “The Greek State undertakes to pay annually to the Church in the form of a subsidy an amount corresponding to the current salary cost of the active priests, which will be adjusted according to the salary changes of the Greek State.”

The move takes over 9000 church staff off the payroll and onto a separate state fund, not necessarily altering their pay but ending their direct salaries from the state. However, an increase in the number of clergy would not require the fund to increase.

The fund…

At least 12 killed in California nightclub

A gunman opened fire at a nightclub in Thousand Oaks, California, late last night. Authorities are reporting that at least twelve people were killed. A deputy was among the victims. The shooter also died. Up to twelve other people were injured.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this is the 307th mass shooting in America this year. Such violence has occurred so often that we risk becoming inured to its horrors.

I love America. Every time I travel overseas, I return with a renewed appreciation for my country.

But part of loving our nation is doing all we can to help our people become all we can be. The epidemic of violence in America is tragic beyond words. We could list a spate of other challenges, from opioid addiction to endemic poverty.

One fundamental issue is foundational to the crises we face.

Our greatest challenge

Yesterday, I identified America’s belief that “all men are created equal” as our founding creed and a significant reason for our continuity as a nation. No matter how divisive our elections become, we share the fundamental conviction that every vote counts and every American matters.

However, this passionate commitment to the rights and liberties of individuals is not only our most cohesive strength–it is also our greatest challenge.

Our founders articulated their commitment to the equality of mankind on the foundation of the Judeo-Christian worldview. For example, John Adams was adamant: “The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity.”

In recent years, however, our culture has moved further and further from this biblical worldview. Absent a set of consensual moral standards, we have embraced tolerance of all standards.

For example, the right to life of a preborn baby now depends on the subjective decision of his or her mother. More and more states are embracing euthanasia and its denial of the sanctity of life until natural death.

We have redefined…

79 children abducted from Christian school freed

Two of the three staff members abducted are still being held, according to Fonki Samuel Forba, moderator of Cameroon’s
Presbyterian Church.

He said the schoolchildren, who were kidnapped on Sunday night from a church school, had been left at a church near Bamenda, the North West Region’s capital.

Mr Forba said the students looked tired and appeared to have suffered during their captivity.

He pleaded with the kidnappers to free the staff still being held, and has asked parents and guardians to take their children home.

The spokesman added that the Presbyterian boarding school with 700 students is being closed because of the security situation.

He said: “It is unfortunate we have to close the school and send home 700 children.

“Their security is not assured by the state and armed groups constantly attack and kidnap them.”

Mr Forba added that the school had previously had some students kidnapped, a situation which was resolved when the church paid a ransom of 2.5 million francs (about £3,000) to the armed gang.

“We can no longer continue,” he said.

Cameroon’s north-west and south-west areas are beset by instability caused by English-speaking separatists.

Fighting between the military and separatists increased after the government clamped down on peaceful demonstrations by English-speaking teachers and lawyers protesting…

Excuses can kill a revitalization effort. Today, we cover seven of the most common excuses you will likely hear in a revitalization and how to combat them.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM HARRISON

Excuses are about all I hear in my pastorate. Everyone seems ready to blame everything else for anything that goes wrong. I try not to join in and make excuses, but sometimes fall into the trap. What are some of the most frequent excuses you hear in church replanting and revitalization?

Episode Highlights:

  • No matter where you live, there are unreached people around your church who need the gospel.
  • One sign that a church is dying is when a church resents the community in which it’s located.
  • Your church is where it is to bless its community. Your church’s address is not an accident.
  • People, resources, and money will gravitate toward gospel activity.

The seven deadly excuses we cover are:

  1. “There are not enough people to reach in our community.”
  2. “The people in the community are not like us.”
  3. “We don’t have enough money.”
  4. “We can’t compete with the bigger churches.”
  5. “We would be fine if we returned to 1985.”
  6. “We don’t have enough young people in our church.”
  7. “No one will come to our run-down facilities.”

Resources mentioned in this episode include:

Revitalize & Replant is sponsored by the North American Mission Board and ChurchReplanters.com. More than 10% of churches in…
