Pastor Matt Chandler Warns Young People Not to Become ‘Slaves to Works-Based Righteousness’

Pastor Matt Chandler Warns Young People Not to Become ‘Slaves to Works-Based Righteousness’

Matt Chandler shared a few words of warning with those attending Together 2018 at Texas Motor Speedway. The event amassed thousands, many of which were millennials. Chandler spoke specifically to the younger crowd, preaching a message that encouraged them to avoid becoming “slaves to a type of works-based righteousness that has no power to change your life.”

Chandler, who serves as the lead pastor at the Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, indicated just how easy it is for young people to give in to the idea that the only way to gain Jesus’ love is by being the perfect version of themselves.

“You start to believe, ‘Man, if I could just stop doing this, or just get away from this, then He would love me.’”

He went on to explain that this way of thinking is not the answer, saying “And yet, the Gospel would say that while you were at your worst, Jesus saved you. It wasn’t when you got your act together, it was not when you stopped doing this or when you started doing this. No, it’s when you believed upon the promises of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. It’s when you turned from the world and you faced Him that the Gospel took root in your life.”

Chandler noted that when this truth is forgotten, it can largely take away the joy we experience in our lives: “It’s not what Christ died to bring you,” he said….

Christian teenager raises £50,000 for Nigerian clinic

Seth Thomas from Guildford visited Asso Village in the north of the country in 2017 and was moved to make a difference for the people there.

The Christian community he visited in Kaduna state are regularly targeted because of their faith and were in desperate need of a new health centre.

Using his network he was able to secure funds from donors and his school within just 9 months to pay for the clinic.

Encouraging other teenagers to make a difference, Seth told Premier: “I think impossible is two letters too long.

“What I did was change things in the world of Asso Village. Imagine what would happen if everyone my age did something like this. That could change the whole world.”

Thanking him for his fundraising efforts, Rev Yunusa Nmadu, who will oversee the clinic said: “I am so thankful for the vision Seth had to build a hospital/clinic for the local people following his visit to Asso a year ago.

“The villagers are immensely grateful, because in addition to providing building work for them, when completed the facility will ensure that healthcare is easily accessible and will without doubt save lives in the area.”

Seth hopes to return to the community soon to open the clinic and to spend more time with the villagers.

Christian Singer Lauren Daigle Addresses Criticism for Appearing on The Ellen Show with a Powerful Message

Christian Singer Lauren Daigle Addresses Criticism for Appearing on The Ellen Show with a Powerful Message

After appearing on The Ellen Showearlier this month, Christian singer Lauren Daigle received severe backlash because the show’s host, Ellen DeGeneres is openly-gay. Now, the award-winning artist is sending a powerful message to her critics warning them to be kind to everyone no matter where they are at in their journey.

According to CBN News, Daigle recently sat down with WAY-FM Radio where she was asked about her experience performing on The Ellen Show and the controversy that followed her performance.

The singer told the interviewer, “I think the second we start drawing lines around which people are able to be approached and which aren’t, we’ve already completely missed the heart of God.”

She continued, “I don’t have all the answers in life, but one thing I know is that I can’t choose who I’m supposed to be kind too and who I’m not, because that’s the mission right? Be who Christ was to everyone as well.”

Daigle noted that Ellen chose the song “Still Rolling Stones” from her newest album “Look Up Child” for her to perform while appearing on the show.

The singer said, “I don’t know why but I know that she’s really purposeful in choosing a message as well, so maybe that was the one that spoke to her the most,” Daigle said.

Daigle is set to appear next on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon

Growing concern for Christians in Pakistan following Asia Bibi’s acquittal

Demonstrations followed the Supreme Court’s decision on Wednesday to free Asia Bibi with hard-line Islamists blocking roads in major cities.

The mother of five had been on death row for 8 years but always denied any wrongdoing.

April, a South Asia specialist at Christian Solidarity Worldwide told Premier she was concerned for Christians and the charity’s partners on ground.

Speaking during the News Hour April said: “What we understand from our partners is that the situation is actually getting worse.

“The government have actually imposed blocks on social media, on telephone services, on communications – there’s also a media blackout.”

Demonstrators in Pakistan have vowed to keep rioting until a decision to free Bibi from death row is reviewed.

Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan has called for calm and said hard-line Islamists were “inciting” people for their “own political gain”.

April told Premier the blasphemy laws were still of great concern.

She added: “What’s going to happen the next time a Christian’s accused of blasphemy?

“We’ll be in the same situation so I think the government need to try to contain the situation, get a handle on it and send a strong message to Islamist groups.”

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Judge Who Denied Transgender Teen’s Name Change

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Judge Who Denied Transgender Teen’s Name Change

An Ohio judge who refused to change the names of a transgender won a victory in court Wednesday when a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit brought against him by three families of transgender teens.

The suit alleged that Warren County Probate Judge Joseph Kirby demonstrated a “pattern and practice” of not changing the names of teenagers who believed their biological sex did not match their gender identity.

The suit originated with Stephanie Whitaker, whose 15-year-old appeared before Judge Kirby in June. Whitaker’s child, who goes by the name Elliot, sought to make the change legal, Kirby questioned him extensively and denied the request. Kirby’s questioning veered into issues of which bathroom he used and the effect of Caitlyn Jenner’s transition on society.

Kirby ultimately denied Elliot’s request and told him to come back before the court when he is 18. Whitaker is concerned the three-year delay could open Elliot up to bullying.

Two other families joined Whitaker in the suit. Jennifer Saul sued Kirby before her son James’ August 14thhearing to authorize his name change. A Jane Doe also sued Kirby but did so without a case pending before him. She said she filed suit because he will deny her child’s name change.

U.S. District Judge William O. Bertelsmantossed out the case against Kirby. He did so not because he agreed with Kirby’s…

Minister Tracey Crouch resigns over govt’s delay to betting laws

The Conservative MP for Chatham and Aylesford wrote on twitter: “It is with great sadness I have resigned from one of the best jobs in Government. Thank you so much for all the very kind messages of support I have received throughout the day. Politicians come and go but principles stay with us forever.”

Crouch attached her letter of resignation to the Prime Minister which begins: “Your personal support earlier this year for a reduction in the stake of fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs) was incredibly welcome” and says the move was a ‘real reflection’ of the Prime Minister’s ambitions to support vulnerable people.

However, she continues: “Unfortunately, implementation of these changes are now being delayed until October 2019 due to the commitments made by others to those with registered interests.”

She adds that this delay will earn the gambling industry £1.6bn, mostly gleaned from “our most deprived areas, including my won constituency”.

“In addition, two people will tragically take their lives every day due to gambling related problems and for that reason as much as any other I believe this delay is unjustifiable”.

FOBTs have been dubbed the ‘crack cocaine of gambling’ as they are highly addictive and gamblers can bet £100 every 20 seconds on the machines.

The government announced in May this year that they would make a huge reduction in the amount you could bet each time, down to £2.

However, the Government said this week that this would…

Protection of Ten Commandments Displays Is on Alabama Ballot

Protection of Ten Commandments Displays Is on Alabama Ballot

The state of Alabama may get more Ten Commandments displays on public property if a proposed constitutional amendment passes next week.

Voters on Tuesday will decide whether to amend the state constitution so that the Ten Commandments can be displayed on public property, provided it is done so “in a manner that complies” with federal “constitutional requirements”

Known as Amendment 1, the proposal could lead to more displays of the Ten Commandments in public schools and on government land — perhaps surrounded by historical documents to make them more palatable to U.S. constitutional law.

Mat Staver, president and founder of the legal group Liberty Counsel, supports the amendment.

“It doesn’t change what the U.S. Supreme Court would do on something of this nature other than in that area it would give comfort, I guess, or some guidance to the display of the Ten Commandments,” Staver told he Associated Press.

Randall Marshall of the ACLU of Alabama said the amendment could lead to lawsuits.

“A school district just posting the Ten Commandment as a stand alone document is going to find themselves getting sued. It’s going to be held to be unconstitutional,” Marshall told AP.

The amendment reads, in part, “Property belonging to the state may be used to display the Ten Commandments, and the right of a public school and public body to display the…

Government calls for all church bells in Wales to ring out at same time

Sunday 11th November will mark 100 years since the guns fell silent.

The Government is also asking churches to join in with the national bell ringing at 12.30pm, with a second opportunity to ring church bells at 7.05pm as part of an event organised by the Battle’s Over project.

The Archbishop, John Davies, said: “There is unlikely to be a family in Wales that was not affected at the time, whether directly or indirectly, by the horror of the First World War in which killing, on a scale never before experienced, happened. One hundred years on, the pain, shock and sense of loss and of sheer waste felt by that generation remains tangible.

“The collective memory of that brutal conflict should continue to move us profoundly, reminding us of sacrifices made, and, all too often of the frequent futility of the conflict. Sadly, it was not, as some had expected, the war to end all wars; and conflicts still shatter the lives of people across the globe today.

“I hope that as bells ring out across the nation to mark this unique and important commemoration, we will remember the sacrifice made, the raw relief and the stirrings of hope for a better future that was felt 100 years ago, and that we will once again pledge ourselves to pursuing the peace of Christ in our lives and in our world.”

A spokesman for the Armistice100 campaign organised by the Department for Digital, Culture,…

Justin Welby to launch new Anglican province

The celebration at the Iglesia Anglicana de Chile (Anglican Church of Chile) in Santiago will mark the 40th province of the Anglican Communion.

Bishop Héctor Zavala Muñoz, also known as Bishop Tito, will become Primate of the new Province.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Most Rev Justin Welby said: “The birth of a new province of the Anglican Communion is a moment to rejoice and give thanks and praise to God.

“It is a hope-filled reminder that God’s vision for the Church is always bigger than we can imagine. As followers of Jesus we are called to be part of this ongoing revolution of love that transforms lives and changes the world through dealing with sin and opening the way to salvation.”

The Anglican Communion is a global family of churches that exists in more than 160 countries.

PA

Archbishop Justin added: “This new province – the 40th of the Communion – is a young, vibrant, spirit-filled church that has seen huge growth. It is leading people to Christ in Chile and living out His call to serve others.

“We marvel and delight in the ways that God’s love is being seen through the creativity, passion and faithfulness of Chilean Anglicans. In all this, we give thanks for the visionary leadership of Archbishop Tito.”

Tennessee Pastor Encourages Churches to Consider Staffing Armed Guards

Tennessee Pastor Encourages Churches to Consider Staffing Armed Guards

A Raleigh, TN pastor is urging churches to consider getting armed security given the current climate in America.

Pastor Bill Adkins of Greater Imani Church in Raleigh, a suburb in Memphis, Tennessee, hired armed guards to protect his church 11 years ago, and now he is encouraging other churches to consider doing the same.

“It’s a shame when we can’t go into God’s church and pray and not have to turn around and look at our backsides and wonder who’s coming up behind us,” Adkins told Fox 13 in an Interview.

Reportedly, the pastor received criticism from his community and congregants when he decided to bring trained armed guards to his church over a decade ago. The pastor told Fox 13 that some people even argued with him saying that armed security was not appropriate to have at a place of worship, but Adkins said he made the decision to protect his almost 2,000 congregants and to assure that they can worship without having to watch their backs.

“These are just times in which we have to make a decision, either we’re going to look out for ourselves and protect our people or we’re going to remain soft targets,” Adkins said.

The Greater Imani Church security team, known as the Greater Imani Watchmen, is made up of trained professionals that were either former military or law enforcement officers and who frequently work with local law…
