Our Daily Bread 6 October 2018 Devotional – Twinkle

Topic: Twinkle [Our Daily Bread 6 October 2018 Devotional]

Read: Philippians 2:14–16, Bible in a Year: Isaiah 26–27; Philippians 2

Shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:15–16

“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” is an English lullaby. Its lyrics, originally a poem by Jane Taylor, capture the wonder of God’s universe where stars hang “up above the world so high.” In the rarely published later stanzas, the star acts as a guide: “As your bright and tiny spark lights the traveler in the dark.”

In Philippians, Paul challenges believers in Philippi to be blameless and pure as they “shine . . . like stars in the sky” while offering the good news of the gospel to all around them (2:15–16). We wonder how we can shine like stars. We often feel inadequate and struggle to think our “light” is bright enough to make a difference. But stars don’t try to be stars. They just are. Light changes our world. And it changes us. God brought physical light into our world (Genesis 1:3); and through Jesus, God brings spiritual light into our lives (John 1:1–4).

We who have God’s light in us are to shine in such a way that those around us see light and are drawn to its source. As effortlessly as a star hanging in the night sky, our light makes a difference because of what it is: Light! When we simply shine, we follow Paul’s directive to “hold firmly to the word of life” in a world in deep darkness, and we draw others to the source of our hope: Jesus.

Prayer: Dear God, may Your light shine out of the very cracks of our beings as we hold out the Word of life to others.

Jesus brings light into our life.

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 6 October 2018 – Revolutionary Love

Topic: Revolutionary Love [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 6 October 2018]

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails–[never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. – 1 Corinthians 13:7-8, The Amplified Bible

Love never fails. Nothing works without it, and there can be no failure with it. When you live by love, you cannot fail.

It takes faith to believe that love’s way will not fail. The natural mind cannot understand that because the natural man and his world are ruled by selfishness.

But when you practice love by faith and refuse to seek your own, you put the Father into action on your behalf. As long as you stay in love, God the Father seeks your own. He sees to it that you succeed. Walking in love is to your great advantage!

Agape love is a new kind of power. It makes you master of every situation. No weapon that is formed against you will prosper. No one even has the power to hurt your feelings because you are not ruled by feelings but by God’s love. You are loving as He loves.

This love is revolutionary. If we fully understood the great return from living God’s love, we’d probably be competing with each other, each of us trying to love the other more. And without a doubt, everyone would emerge from that competition a winner! For love is truly the only sure secret to our success.

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:9-21

Andrew Wommack Devotional 6 October – Follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit

Topic: Follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit [Andrew Wommack Devotional 6 October 2018]

Matthew 25:14 “For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

The parable of the talents continues the theme of being ready for the Lord’s return, but it also makes a strong point that we are accountable to the Lord for the gifts He has given us. The Lord intends us to use these gifts to further His kingdom – not keep them hidden.

This parable also shows the Lord dealing with His servants according to their own individual gifts and abilities. The servants who doubled their Lord’s money were praised equally, even though one had produced two and one-half times as much revenue for His Lord than the other. Every man’s work shall be judged as to what sort it is – not what size it is.

Most people today are preoccupied with quantity of ministry instead of quality of ministry. The Lord is going to reward us based on how well we did, not on how much we did. Those who are not governed by the Holy Spirit in their actions will see all their good works burned up on the day we stand before the Lord and He tries our works. Those who acted only under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will find that their works will endure the test and they will receive a reward.

Many people choose to do good things thinking that God will be pleased. It is our positive response to God’s direction (faith) that pleases God (Heb. 11:6). We were created with a purpose and every individual has a God-given plan for his life. Unless our actions are in agreement with God’s plan for our life, they will not abide the test of God’s fire.

Billy Graham Devotional 6 October 2018 — Longings of the Soul

Topic: Longings of the Soul [Billy Graham Devotional 6 October 2018]

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

It has been my privilege to know what it means to walk in the way of Christ. What a thrilling, joyous experience it is to wake up every morning and know His presence in the room! What a thrilling, joyous experience it is to know in the evening, when the sun is setting, the peace of God as you go to bed and to sleep, and to sleep the sleep of only those who know Christ! What a joy it is to walk in the eternal and permanent experience of Christ!

Do you hunger for such a walk? Do you long for such joy, peace, contentment, abandonment, and adventure in your own soul? If this is your hunger and desire, then God will do exactly what He has promised to do: He will fill you. Every promise God has ever made, He has kept—or will keep.

Prayer for the day: Thank You, Lord, for the promise of filling my life with Your love.

Hamas Chief Calls for Cease-Fire in Gaza despite Rising Tension

Hamas Chief Calls for Cease-Fire in Gaza despite Rising Tension

The leader of Hamas in Gaza has called for a cease-fire with Israel, according to reports.

In an interview with an Israeli newspaper, Yehya Sinwar said he didn’t want a war.

“A new war is in no one’s interest, certainly not our interest,” Mr. Sinwar said in the interview in the newspaper Yediot Ahronot. “Who really wants to confront a nuclear superpower with four slingshots? War doesn’t achieve anything.”

The interview for the Israeli newspaper was Sinwar’s first to the Israeli media since he became the top official in Hamas.

To the question of why he gave the interview to an Israeli newspaper, Sinwar said: “Because I now see a real opportunity for change.

“I’m not saying I won’t fight anymore; I’m saying I don’t want more wars,” he said.

“What I want is the end of the siege,” he added.

Tension between Hamas and Israel have increased as Hamas has protested along the Israeli border, calling for returning Palestinian land to what is now Israel.

Then last week, Israeli soldiers shot dead seven Palestinians, including two boys, ages 12 and 14. Israeli officials said the soldiers opened fire after rioters sabotaged security infrastructure and threw grenades and other explosives at the fence and soldiers.

The Israeli military says it plans on sending “wide-scale” reinforcements to the area.

Sinwar, meanwhile, told the…

Tim Challies Argues Francis Chan’s New Book Makes House Churches Look Like the “Only Faithful Churches Left”

Tim Challies Argues Francis Chan’s New Book Makes House Churches Look Like the “Only Faithful Churches Left”

Pastor Tim Challies recently wrote a review of Francis Chan’s new book, Letters to the Church. In his review Challiesargues that Chan, a former Cornerstone megachurch leader, makes many strong points, many of which are too “hyperbolic” about the state of the American Church.

Challies, who is a Reformed theologian and the pastor of Grace Fellowship Church in Toronto, called Chan’s book into question in a review that came out on Wednesday, noting that he is concerned about the message the book is spreading.

“I am concerned about how often he overstates his case. Chan consistently states the problem and his solution with far too much force and far too little nuance. His book is packed full of hyperbolic statements about the woes of the American Church and the superiority of house church[es]. Some of these are uncharitable while others tip into the absurd,” he writes.

Challies then lists several quotes from Chan’s book that he felt fit the uncharitable or absurd bill. One of the quotes reads, “Gangs have a much stronger sense of what it means to be a family than we do in the Church.”

Another quote calls for the renewal and replacement of all Christian leaders saying, “The Church is in dire need of a fresh wave of godly leadership. I pray all existing leaders would be renewed or replaced.”

These claims cause…

‘War Room’ Actor Priscilla Shirer Says She Doesn’t Describe Herself as a Black Woman

(Screenshot: Facebook)“War Room” actor, Priscilla Shirer.

“War Room” actor Priscilla Shirer has called on Christians to unite around their Christian identity before anything else in a viral video clip where she declares that she doesn’t describe herself as a black woman.

“I do not describe myself as a black woman because that gives too much power to my blackness,” Shirer says in the clip recently shared on Facebook by Chuck Bernal, founder and lead pastor of LifePointe Church in Crowley, Texas.

“I don’t want my race to be the describing adjective of who I am as a woman. I am not a black woman. I am a Christian woman who happens to be black,” Shirer continued to cheers in the video which has been viewed nearly 3 million times since it was posted on Sept. 26.

“It’s the job of your adjective to describe the noun of who you are. If there’s gonna be an adjective describing me it’s not gonna be my race, it’s going to be I’m a woman who believes in every single thing that my God has declared to be true. And I will stand firmly on the promises of His word because I will be girded in truth,” she said.

It wasn’t immediately clear where Shirer was speaking at the time but during the message, she extended an invitation to all Christians to embrace their Christian identity above race and politics to prevent themselves from being led astray.

“So you may be a black woman, a black man, a white woman, a white man, but that should not define you. So if your race or if your political group is going in a different direction than the Word of God, you don’t choose your blackness or whiteness or whatever culture…

Jerry Falwell, Jr. Has Hole in Heart Repaired after Connecting with Surgeon Ben Carson

Jerry Falwell, Jr. Has Hole in Heart Repaired after Connecting with Surgeon Ben Carson

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. recently underwent surgery to repair a hole in his heart after connecting with renowned surgeon Ben Carson.

According to The Christian Post, Falwell and his doctors told Liberty medical school students  on Wednesday that he had undergone a new and innovative procedure called the NobleStitch last month in Fairfax, Virginia.

The one-hour procedure uses a microscopic needle to sew a hole in the heart closed and avoids the need for a permanent device to be implanted. It also avoids the need for an open-heart surgery.

The technique has only recently been approved in the U.S. and as such only about 130 NobleStitch procedures have been completed in the United States. Worldwide, however, nearly 1,500 NobleStitch procedures have been completed successfully. According to Liberty University, no one has ever reported complications from the NobleStitch procedure.

Falwell explained that he was only connected with the procedure’s inventor Dr. Anthony Nobles after confiding in neurosurgeon and White House Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, in May.

In 2016, Falwell, 56, had two small strokes and often complained of migraines. According to CBN News, the Virginia-based Christian university president confided in Carson with these health concerns. After hearing his symptoms, Carson was able to…

Kavanaugh Reaches 51 Votes as Key Swing Voters Pledge Support

Kavanaugh Reaches 51 Votes as Key Swing Voters Pledge Support

Republican Sen. Susan Collins said Thursday afternoon she will vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, all but guaranteeing that President Trump’s selection to replace retired justice and swing vote Anthony Kennedy will be confirmed. Moments later, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) also announced his support.

The Senate is scheduled to vote Saturday.

With the announced support of Collins, Manchin and that of Republican Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) earlier Thursday, the Republicans now have exactly 51 pledged votes – enough to confirm Kavanaugh. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted against Kavanaugh in a procedural hurdle Friday morning and is expected to vote no.

Collins (Maine) announced her support in a 45-minute speech on the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, saying she carefully read the FBI report on sexual allegations against Kavanaugh.

“I understand both viewpoints,” Collins said. “ … But certain fundamental legal principles, about due process, the presumption of innocence, and fairness do bear on my thinking, and I cannot abandon them.”

The four witnesses that accuser Christine Blasey Ford said were at the party where she was attacked “could not corroborate” any of Ford’s testimony, said Collins, who added that she found Ford’s testimony compelling and believed she had experienced a sexual assault at some point in…

Pro-Choice Man Kicks Pro-Life Woman During Silent Protest

Pro-Choice Man Kicks Pro-Life Woman During Silent Protest

A Toronto woman videoed a man who was harassing pro-life protesters at an annual event in Toronto on Sunday. When the man saw the phone in her hand, he briefly argued with her before delivering a roundhouse kick to her shoulder.

Marie-Claire Bissonette, who serves as Youth Coordinator for Campaign Life Coalition, told her story in a post for LifeSite News. She explained that the assault happened at an annual event called Life Chain, which brings together thousands of pro-life advocates who stand on street corners across Canada in silent protest. Their signs only display messages, including numbers for the local pregnancy help center, but do not contain “abortion victim photography.”

Bissonnette was in charge of a street corner where 76 people stood holding signs when a man, now identified as Jordan Hunt, walked up and started frantically scribbling on people’s signs with red and blue markers. When they realized what he was doing, the protesters held their signs out of reach and he wrote on their clothing instead.

The video began with him talking to one pro-choice protester who stood on the corner holding a sign which read, “My body, my choice, my right.” She disagreed with his tactics and told him to “kill them with kindness.”

As Bissonnette approached him, she told him that he was destroying private property. He responded by asking her, “If somebody gets…
