The parents of the two-year-old boy who was killed by an alligator at Walt Disney World in 2016 have a new baby they are calling a blessing from God.
Two years ago, Lane Graves, the son of Matt and Melissa Graves, was dragged underwater while playing on the shore near Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa as his parents watched in horror. The father tried but failed to rescue the boy, whose body was found the next day.
Two years later, the Graves have a new addition to their family.
“We are happy to announce the birth of our son, Christian Lane Graves,” Matt and Melissa Graves said Wednesday in a statement. “Although we know the pain of losing Lane will never go away, we feel God has blessed our family with this precious miracle of life.”
The Graves also have a daughter, Ella.
Last year the parents announced the establishment of The Lane Thomas Foundation, which provides financial support to families of children undergoing organ transplants. The foundation also raises awareness about organ donation and supports research with the goal of eliminating “the need for organ transplantation to save children’s lives,” according to the foundation’s website.

The daughter of former US President Bill Clinton made the comments in a SiriusXM interview on Thursday.
She talked about her efforts to keep abortion legal in the US and said: “Every day I make the moral choice to be optimistic that my efforts and my energies, particularly when I’m fortunate enough to be in partnership with fellow travellers, hopefully will make a difference.”
Clinton said that before the landmark US Supreme Court decision that legalised abortion, many women were dying due to unsafe abortion practices and insisted that the country could not go back to such a time.
“When I think about all of the statistics today in our country… and how many women died and how many more women were maimed because of unsafe abortion practices, we just can’t go back to that,” she said.
“That’s unconscionable to me, and also, I’m sure that this will unleash another wave of hate in my direction, but as a deeply religious person, it’s also unchristian to me.”

Does attending a Christian college or university hurt your chances of employment? The answer is “no,” according to a study highlighting attitudes about faith-based higher education.
The study, conducted by the Barna Group in collaboration with the Association for Biblical Higher Education, asked hiring managers about their general willingness to hire Bible or Christian college graduates, and about their perceptions of these graduates’ preparedness in a variety of areas.
Researchers found that when it comes to employing graduates, most employers don’t indicate clear bias toward or against graduates of Bible colleges or Christian universities. In fact, a majority of employers (69 percent) said they are “just as likely” to call these candidates as any others for an interview.
Unsurprisingly, 72 percent of Christian employers are somewhat more likely to call graduates of a Bible or Christian college, while employers of another faith or no faith are somewhat less likely.
Based on the data, it’s reasonable for these graduates, depending on the religious inclinations of a particular hiring manager, to “expect occasional pushback based on assumptions about their alma mater,” the authors said.
The majority of employers also say they expect Bible college and Christian university graduates to be “very well” or “somewhat prepared” when it comes to maturity, effective communication and teamwork.

In a remote pocket of northern Yemen, many families with starving children have nothing to eat but the leaves of a local vine, boiled into a sour, acidic green paste. International aid agencies have been caught off guard by the extent of the suffering there as parents and children waste away.
The main health center in Aslam district was flooded with dozens of emaciated children during a recent visit by The Associated Press. Excruciatingly thin toddlers, eyes bulging, sat in a plastic washtub used in a make-shift scale as nurses weighed them one by one. Their papery skin was stretched tight over pencil-like limbs and knobby knees. Nurses measured their forearms, just a few centimeters in diameter, marking the worst stages of malnutrition.
At least 20 children are known to have died of starvation already this year, more than three years into the country’s ruinous civil war, in the province that includes the district. The real number is likely far higher, since few families report their children’s deaths when they die at home, officials say.
In one nearby village, a 7-month-old girl, Zahra, cries and reaches with her bony arms for her mother to feed her. Her mother is undernourished herself and is often unable to breastfeed Zahra. She can’t afford formula for her baby.
“Since the day she was born, I have not had the money to buy her milk or buy her medicine,” the mother said.
Zahra was recently treated at the heath center. Now at home, she’s dwindling away again. With no money, her parents can’t afford to hire a car or motorbike take her back to the clinic.

Managed by a body called the Church Commissioners, the investment fund is the modern incarnation of the Church of England’s historic property assets.
The Church Commissioners distribute returns from the fund into the Church of England, accounting for approximately 15% of the Church’s running costs.
It also pays pensions for retired clergy, provides funding for the poorest areas and supports research into how the Church can grow.
The Church Commissioners body holds stocks in publicly listed companies, including Google owner Alphabet, oil giants BP and Royal Dutch Shell, pharma firms GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca, and Amazon.
It also has a private equity portfolio and property holdings.
Two of its largest property investments are in the Hyde Park Estate and its 10% stake in the Metrocentre in Gateshead.
According to the latest financial report from the Church Commissioners, its £8.3 billion investment fund achieved a return on investments in 2017 of 7.1%.
But that was sharply below the previous year’s 17.1% return and was below a 9.1% target.
It has been struggling in fixed income markets and knocked by the recovery in the pound, which impacted its US dollar-based investments.

The practise of hiring workers on the basis they receive no guaranteed working hours came under a spotlight this week when the Archbishop of Canterbury suggested it was “evil”.
But revelations both Gloucester Cathedral (pictured above) and Norwich Cathedrals use such agreements prompted a call for Most Rev Justin Welby to “put his own house in order” before criticising other employers.
Norwich Cathedral (pictured) was seeking a refectory assistant in an online – which described the role as a “casual zero-hours post”.
The Dean of Norwich, Very Revd Jane Hedges, said: “At Norwich Cathedral, zero-hour contracts are given to those of our staff who choose them because it suits their lifestyle like, for example, students and people who are retired and want a flexible part-time job.
“We take the welfare and wellbeing of our staff very seriously.”
Zero-hour contracts have been criticised for offering staff poor job security and fewer benefits than other types of employment. Some workers prefer the extra flexibility such agreements provide.
Addressing the TUC Congress in Manchester on Wednesday, Archbishop Justin described the so-called gig economy and zero-hour contracts as “the reincarnation of an ancient evil”.

Brendan McLean and Allison Miller were supposed to exchange wedding vows today in Charleston, South Carolina, where they became engaged last November. However, the city is now under a mandatory evacuation order.
So, Brendan and Allison will get married today at home in the Dallas area. The wedding will take place in the backyard of Allison’s parents’ home. The table, dishes, and flowers have been donated. More than five million people are under hurricane warnings or watches this morning as Hurricane Florence nears land. But you don’t have to live in the path of the storm to be affected by its devastation.
The eye of the hurricane is expected to make landfall this afternoon. The storm surge and flooding it is already generating are equivalent to a Category 4 storm. North Carolina may get ten trillion gallons of rain over the next week.
While we may not be facing such an unthinkable disaster, we’re all facing storms of some kind.
When tragedy strikes, skeptics question the relevance of faith in the God who did not prevent the storm. But suffering is caused by a variety of sources, from misused free will to the consequences of living on a fallen planet (Romans 8:22).
To reject God’s help when we need him most is like rejecting medical science because we’re sick. I understand that God is omnipotent in a way doctors are not, but the practical fact is that we should not let our questions keep us from our Father’s grace.

Tullian Tchividjian said he is less nervous speaking with a non-Christian about his adultery and divorce than he is with a Christian.
“I can tell you from personal experience that every time I tell my own story of adultery and divorce, I’m less nervous telling a non-Christian than I am a Christian — they tend to be less shocked by sin and more surprised by grace,” the author and former megachurch pastor wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
As he has in the past, Tchividjian also criticized religious people who are quick to condemn others for their failings.
“The people that Jesus called out publicly were not the rank and file sinners, but the religious people who, thinking they were better, seemed to find great joy in calling out publicly the sins of the rank and file sinners,” he reminded social media users in another tweet.
Tchividjian, who is the grandson of late evangelist Billy Graham, resigned as pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in 2015 after admitting to an extramarital affair. He has since divorced and remarried.
In follow-up tweets this week, he shared of how God never gives up on people, no matter what they have done.
