Topic: God-Given Desires [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Thursday August 2, 2018]

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? — Romans 8:31

One of the ways God speaks to us is through the sanctified desires of our hearts. God places right desires in our hearts, and then He gives us those desires.

I remember a time when I had a desire for homemade zucchini bread but had no talent or time to make it. I simply said, “Lord, I sure would like some fresh zucchini bread,” and did not think about it again. About a week later a lady who knew nothing of my desire handed me a box, and when I opened it, I found homemade zucchini bread. God delights in doing small and large things for us, and we should never fail to appreciate all of them.

We need to ask God to give us sanctified, or holy, desires. We usually have desire for natural things such as success, finances, nice homes, and good relationships, but we should also desire spiritual things. We should desire to know God in a deeper and more intimate way, to always display the fruit of the Spirit, especially love, to serve God in ways that glorify Him, to always be obedient to God, et cetera. Let us ask God to take away fleshly desire and give us sanctified desire.

God puts in us desires that will bring His righteousness, peace, and joy to our lives (see Romans 14:17), and they never disagree with His Word.

Wrong desires torment us, and we are impatient about receiving them, but sanctified desire comes with a willingness to wait on God’s ways and timing.

Prayer Starter: Father, I ask for You to sanctify my desires. Give me a hunger to know You more. Help me to want what You want for me, knowing it will bring true joy and fulfillment. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: We Are Partakers Of Divine Nature [TREM 2 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4 (KJV)

We are called unto glory not shame. You will not see shame. You will not see reproach. Glory! That’s what we are called into. Once you are saved you are already in Christ. How can Jesus be in you and you in Him, and you see shame? Jesus Christ is not a shame giver but a glory giver.

Our scripture today says we have escaped shame and corruption in this world. When you begin to operate in the promises and assurance of God, you will be walking on earth as a divinity; because you are complete in Him. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. That’s where we are. The bible says as you have thereby received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him rooted and built up in him (Colossians 2:6). The Scripture went further to say in verse 9-10 that in Him dwells all the fullness of God bodily and ye are complete in Him which is the head of all principalities. If in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead and you are in Him, it means you lack nothing!

Being in Christ is not a religious ritual. Something took place in the realm of the spirit that’s why Paul said henceforth know we no man after the flesh. You became like Him and you moved into another level, the limitless level. You moved into a dimension where everything works. In heaven, there is no shortage. That is why when you got saved the bible says you were quickened and raised up to function from heaven where there is no lack, no defeat, and no failure. Today, I release grace to tap into heavenly revelation; like it came upon Paul. I release grace to dissolve doubts and to provide a solution for complex situations. I release grace for creativity. I release grace for completion and for insight. Receive it now in Jesus name.

Topic: Our Debt Was Paid [Andrew Wommack 2nd August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Luke 16:17 “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.”

The jot was not only one of the smallest letters of the Hebrew alphabet, but also one of the most insignificant, being sometimes deleted at the writer’s pleasure. The tittle was only a mark or a point on a line that helped distinguish one letter from another. The tittle corresponds to our period or apostrophe. The point that Jesus is making is that even the tiniest detail of the law would not pass away.

Christ fulfilled every jot and tittle of the law. The law was ordained to life, but no one could keep it. So, God Himself became flesh. He did what no sinful flesh had ever done. He kept the law thereby winning the life of God as the prize for keeping the law. This granted Him eternal life but before He could give it to us, we still had a debt that had to be paid. This is similar to someone receiving the death penalty for some hideous crime, then some billionaire leaves his whole estate to him. It would do the condemned man no good. But if that same billionaire could somehow take that man’s place and die for him, then he could go free and enjoy his new wealth. That’s what Jesus did for us. He took our sins and gave us His righteousness.

Jesus did much more than just obtain eternal life for us, He also paid all the wages of our sins (Rom. 6:23). God literally placed the condemnation, or judgment, that was against us upon His own Son. Jesus’ perfect flesh was condemned so our defiled flesh could go free. What a trade! Since Jesus bore our sentence (condemnation), we don’t have to bear it. The debt has already been paid.

Topic: Demands of the Soul [Billy Graham’s Devotional Thursday August 2, 2018]

And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought . . . — Isaiah 58:11

The soul demands as much attention as the body. It demands fellowship and communion with God. It demands worship, quietness, and meditation. Unless the soul is fed and exercised daily, it becomes weak and shriveled. It remains discontented, confused, restless. Many people turn to alcohol to try to drown the cryings and longings of the soul. Some turn to a new sex experience. Others attempt to quiet the longings of their souls in other ways. Nothing but God ever completely satisfies, because the soul is made for God, and without God it is restless and in secret torment. The first step to God is a realization of your spiritual poverty. The poor in spirit do not measure the worth of life in earthly possessions, which fade away, but in terms of eternal realities, which endure forever. Wise is the man who openly confesses his lack of spiritual wealth and in humility of heart cries, “God, be merciful unto me, a sinner.”

Prayer for the day: As I look to You, my Lord and my Redeemer, the strivings of my soul will be satisfied. You alone bring lasting joy.
